Sir Alex faces midfield dilemma
Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is now faced with a growing dilemma of who to select for his central midfield pairing.

There is an embarrassment of riches in the centre of the park for the Reds, with Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs rolling back the years, and Darren Fletcher emerging as one of the best midfielders in England.

The rapidly improving form of Anderson, Michael Carrick’s kick-start on Wednesday night against Wolfsburg, the impending return of Owen Hargreaves and the promise shown by Darron Gibson have given Sir Alex a headache, “but a good one”.

“Our two central midfielders – Carrick and Anderson – were fantastic against Wolfsburg, and I thought Fletcher and Scholes were outstanding at Stoke. It is giving me a real headache,” the Reds boss said on Friday.

Fletcher, who made the initial defence-splitting pass that led to Dimitar Berbatov’s opener at Stoke, and Scholes, who gave a passing masterclass at the Britannia Stadium, raised the bar. But Sir Alex feels Anderson and Carrick - United’s midweek match-winner – matched it when they were selected to face Wolfsburg.

“Michael is always a slow starter,” Ferguson said. “But we got some juice on the ground on Wednesday night and he seemed to revel in that. We’re pleased that his form is coming right. He knows himself that he’s not a quick starter. But I thought he was fantastic on Wednesday. I was really pleased for him.

“Anderson impressed me too, and his form in the last few weeks has been top, he’s looked very, very good.”

It means that young Irishman Gibson, who Sir Alex rates very highly, has been edged out of the picture somewhat, though Sir Alex has asked for patience. “Darron is an exceptional young player, but he is having to bide his time. He will get opportunities this season, though, I’m certain of that.”

Special praise, however, was saved for Scholes. “On Saturday against Stoke gave an absolutely masterful performance,” Sir Alex said. “It was incredible. He had 78 passes in the match and four were off target. Four. It’s a phenomenal rate. As Tony Pulis said after the game, I can’t think of a better United player I’ve seen. You can understand that because when you see that kind of performance, it’s wonderful.”

Asked if he was having to reassess the longevity of players like Scholes and Giggs because of the way they have been playing. “I think they are doing that themselves. They defy their age and the enthusiasm, confidence and maturity that is in their game, it’s refreshing to see that players can retain these qualities for such a long time.”

Hargreaves will not only bolster United’s ranks when he returns in around a month, he will make the selection problem worse for the Reds boss. The physiotherapist who worked with Hargreaves in America during his year-long rehabilitation from knee surgery has now returned to the US, leaving Hargreaves ever closer to returning, and United’s midfield ranks looking stronger than ever before.

btw gpp sih kbnyakan midfielder..itu artinya United pny stok klo aja ada pemain yg cedera mengingat kompetisi yg smakin padat...

mantap dah..siapapun yang diturunkan SAF sekarang (flet,carrick,ando,scholes) kemampuannya setara ditambah gibbo yang berpotensi.susah juga ya ngatur rotasinya.mungkin dah saatnya scholes dan giggs pensiun musim depan.bukan karena performa mereka turun,tapi untuk memberikan kesempatan pemaen lain yang lebih muda terutama ando dan gibbo.sehingga potensi besar yang ada akan benar2 dapat dimunculkan.

Bener bgt.. Tiap maen PES, WE, FIFA, CM, FM.. Suka bingung mo pake midfielder yg mana.. Semua hampir rata skillnya..
Mosok musti pake formasi 2-6-2...

iya ya.. Opa Fergie aja bingung milihnya..
apalagi kita sebagai fans...
tapi ada bagusnya juga dengan banyaknya TOP class midfielders akan mempermudah United untuk rotasi pemain di tengah jadwal yang makin padat tanpa harus kawatir kehilangan kekuatan di lini tengah yang sanagt berarti soalnya kan dari smua milfielders yang di punya United bisa dibilang Top Class semua tuh...

pra musim opa kerja keras muter otak gimana caranya biar United tetep maen bagus setelah ga ada CR7..meskipun penampilan awal tim masih meragukan di awal2 tapi sekarang udah mulai padu dan punya kombinasi yang bagus dari 2-3 personel..semoga opa bisa ngatur rotasi pemaen dengan baik dengan jadwal kompetisi yang padat banget...can't wait to see hargo comeback..

pusingnya fergie bukan hanya memilih yang terbaik tapi juga menjaga keharmonisan tim dengan memberikan menit bermain yang cukup untuk semua pemainnya terutama pemain2 topnya.pemain seperti carrick,ando,dan fletcher jelas ndak mau lama2 duduk dibangku cadangan.meski semua demi kepentingan tim dan semua pemain pro tau akan hal itu tapi namanya manusia jelas bisa nggak sabar.jadi inget kasus ando awal musim ini,he..meski semua dah beres tetep aja tidak berharap hal itu terjadi lagi.emang susah ya jadi manager.milih pemaen aja bukan hanya taktik,kualitas pemaen dan stamina aja yang dijadiin pertimbangan.perasaan pemaen juga mesti jadi perhatian.
