Alexis Sanchez undertakes extra training as Manchester United star bids to recover full match sharpness after January switch from Arsenal

* Alexis Sanchez has undertaken extra training since joining Manchester United
* The Chilean has been going the extra mile in order to reach peak physical fitness
* He has been doing an extra half an hour after the main session has finished
* Sanchez scored his first United goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over Huddersfield

Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez has undertaken extra training since joining from Arsenal in a bid to recover maximum sharpness for his new club.

The Chilean sealed a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window and scored his first United goal in their comfortable 2-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday.

Sanchez has delivered some inconsistent displays this season and has taken it upon himself to go the extra mile in training as he tries to achieve peak fitness for Jose Mourinho.

According to The Sun, Sanchez has been putting in extra hours after regular sessions are complete in order to return to his best form.

'He has been doing an extra half an hour after the main session has finished by himself,' said a United insider.

'Nobody had asked him to do it but he feels there is an extra sharpness to be had.

'He has got his head down and you can see the steam coming off his body after working outside, it's so impressive.

'He doesn't have to do it, he just insists on it. You will not find a better pro around really, he's superb.'

Mourinho has revealed he is confident United won't require any further attacking reinforcements this summer after the signing of Sanchez last month.

The Red Devils have been linked with the likes of Gareth Bale and Antoine Griezmann in recent windows, but Mourinho insists they will focus on other areas.

'We have Alexis, we have [Romelu] Lukaku, we have [Anthony] Martial, we have [Marcus] Rashford. Rashford can play on the left or on the right. Alexis is exactly the same,' said Mourinho.

'All of them, apart from Lukaku, can play from behind as a second striker, that's why I say it is bad for you. You like to have things to write and things to speculate, especially in the summer.

'But I don't want attacking players, so don't speak about attacking players that are coming here because nobody is coming here.'

Bersalah dalam Kasus Pajak, Sanchez Divonis Penjara 16 Bulan
Randy Prasatya - detikSport

Premier League's best-paid player Alexis Sanchez hit with 16-month suspended prison sentence for tax fraud as £350,000-a-week Man United star is fined £525,000

* Alexis Sanchez accepted a punishment for defrauding tax authorities of £900k
* He won't go to prison as it is his first offence and sentence is under two years
* Sanchez has to pay a £525,000 fine and the money he owes tax authorities
* He is one of many big names from Spanish football embroiled in tax investigation
* Jose Mourinho is under investigation over £2.94m of unpaid contributions
* Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo's case over unpaid taxes of £13m is ongoing

Manchester United's new signing Alexis Sanchez has been handed a 16-month prison sentence in Spain for tax fraud.

Sanchez, the highest-paid player in the Premier League on £600,000 a week, accepted his punishment for defrauding the Spanish tax authorities of £900,000 during his time at Barcelona.

The 29-year-old Chile star will not go to prison because it is his first offence and the sentence is less than two years.

However, his conviction could be a stumbling block to obtaining a visa if United tour America again this summer.

Sanchez must also pay a £525,000 fine in addition to the tax he owes for 2012 and 2013 on image rights earned at Barcelona.

The agreement with the Spanish Attorney General means Sanchez will not face trial. He is the latest big name to become embroiled in a tax probe that has also targeted Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alexis Sanchez has been handed a 16-month prison sentence for tax fraud in Spain. But the Manchester United star will not have to go to prison as it is his first offence. Sanchez is one of a number of big football names to become embroiled in tax investigations

United manager Jose Mourinho remains under investigation over £2.94m of unpaid contributions despite claiming at a court hearing in November that his financial affairs are in order.

Sanchez's former Barca team-mate Messi was given a 21-month prison sentence in 2016, but exchanged it for a £223,000 fine last year.

Javier Mascherano and Ricardo Carvalho both settled after being given suspended prison sentences, while Cristiano Ronaldo's case over unpaid taxes of £13m is ongoing.

Sanchez's agent Fernando Felicevich hit out at the authorities for leaking the news about his client, and claimed that he had been forced into the 'unfair' deal.

MU: Kaus Sanchez Laris Manis Sampai Pecahkan Rekor
Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

Sanchez Berharap MU Penuhi Mimpinya Raih Gelar-Gelar Juara
Rifqi Ardita Widianto - detikSport

Default Re: Alexis Sanchez

MOURINHO SALUTES ALEXIS'S MENTALITY

Jose Mourinho has spoken with delight about the mentality and experience possessed by new no.7 Alexis Sanchez, ahead of Manchester United's trip to face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday.

The Chilean struck his first goal for the club during a Man-of-the-Match display in last Saturday's 2-0 home win against Huddersfield Town. During Friday's pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex, Mourinho was asked which of Alexis's myriad qualities he particularly liked.

The manager responded: "His mentality. I like to have in my team a player that loses the ball in minute 91 and doesn't stop until he recovers that ball – even if he is that tired like he was in the last minute of the last match [against Huddersfield].

"A crucial moment in football is when your team loses the ball and you become exposed and open for the opponent to hurt you. So when you have players in the team with that mentality of, 'I made a mistake or I lost the ball and I am going to recover it for my team', that is very important. All of this combination - his experience, his talent, his mentality - makes a player that I like."

Alexis opened his United account against Huddersfield after winning a penalty when fouled by Terriers defender Michael Hefele on 68 minutes. The forward saw his resulting spot-kick saved by Danish goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, but was able to turn home the rebound in front of an exultant Stretford End.

The performance of United's no.7 was also notable for earning seven free-kicks – in fact, no player has drawn more fouls in a single game so far during the current Premier League season.

"You can see the way Alexis was 'welcomed' by the opponents," the boss said. "He's a tough boy, he's a pure guy, he's a guy that copes with that. He coped at Yeovil in difficult conditions too with some bad tackles and against Huddersfield.”

Default Re: Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez signed for his attitude, not just goals... and Jose Mourinho backs 'tough boy' to ride bad tackles

* As the best paid player in the league, Alexis Sanchez is expected to deliver
* The Chilean star opted to join Manchester United instead of Manchester City
* And United boss Jose Mourinho insists his attitude was a key factor in the move
* 'When you have players in the team of that mentality...that is very important'

Alexis Sanchez will step onto the pitch at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon as the best-paid star in the Premier League, no mean feat given the squillions that go into players' pockets every month.

Reports of his salary vary from £350,000 to £600,000-a-week depending on whether tax, image rights and bonuses are taken into account.

For that money, the Chilean will be expected to provide plenty of goals and assists for Manchester United.

Boss Jose Mourinho insisted Alexis Sanchez was signed for his attitude and not just goals. The Chile ace is the Premier League's best player and the pressure is massive for him to deliver

Yet manager Jose Mourinho insists it was the 29-year-old's insatiable work ethic and experience of handling expectations at Barcelona that persuaded him to gazump Manchester City at a huge financial cost.

'I like to have a player in my team that loses the ball in minute 91 and doesn’t stop until he recovers that ball even if he is tired. Just like he was in the last minute of our last match. I like this attitude,' said Mourinho.

'I've always thought that crucial moment in football is when your team loses the ball and you become exposed and open for the opponent to hurt you.

'When you have players in the team of that mentality where they say, I made that mistake or I lost the ball and I am going to recover it, that is very important.

'All this combination with Alexis, his experience, his talent and his mentality makes him the player that I like.'

Sanchez will have been relieved to open his United goal account in only his third game for the club against Huddersfield last weekend.

Newcastle United will be wary of his talent even if the South American has surprisingly never scored against The Toon.

Mourinho's point about experience is interesting.

Among his forward players, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata have played in Champions League finals but others like Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford are unused to coping with the demands of having to win the very biggest prizes in football.

Sanchez had three seasons in the pressure-cooker of Barcelona, winning a league championship, Spanish Cup and Fifa World Club Cup.

But Mourinho believes Sanchez is a player who can cope with the United demands of winning. And while the Chile star is being targeted by opposition, his boss expects him to stand up to it. Since joining, Sanchez has said all the right things as he called United the 'biggest' club. Sanchez's wealth of Champions League experience makes him crucial to Mourinho's side

'Alexis has a level that my attacking players don’t have. Alexis played Champions League for a few years with different clubs, at least one club (Barcelona) that is feeling the responsibility to win it when he was at Barcelona.

'Of my other boys, Lukaku is the first season in the Champions League, Rashford, Martial, Lingard, just a few matches. We don’t have many with that knowhow.

'Part of Alexis’s talent as a player is that he knows what the Champions League is and that is important because when you go to the knockout, then the semi finals, it is for players who know how to compete at that level.'

Mourinho says he doesn't think seriously about winning the Champions League until his teams reach the quarter-finals but will fancy beating Sevilla over two legs with Sanchez in his side.

The former Arsenal player is already saying the right things, describing United as the biggest club in England in an interview broadcast by Sky Sports ahead of the Newcastle game.

A big reputation brings its own problems too and Sanchez has been targeted for some rough challenges against Yeovil and Huddersfield.

'You can see the way Alexis has been “welcomed” by the opponent! He is a tough boy, a pure guy who can cope with that,' said Mourinho.

'He has received some bad tackles. I don’t like the word “protect” because it looks like referees have to protect only the top players, but they have to protect everybody on the pitch equally.

'They know the rules and if the card has to come then I am sure the refs will be in control of it.

'What do you want defenders to do? Do you want defenders let top players play with freedom. It is the nature of the game, the more you fear the more you target. You fear the most talented players so it is natural.

'For the referees every player must be treated the same and according to the rules. So if the referee sees red card, then the red card comes, if they see a yellow, then the yellow comes and the second.

'We don’t need managers speaking about this. When they see an obvious thing the referee must take care of it which I think they try to do.'

City are reportedly seeking a meeting with referee chiefs after a series of bad tackles against their players.

On the treatment of Sanchez, Mourinho quipped: 'Maybe his manager needs to cry a little bit more.'

United are currently second in the Premier League, a big improvement on last season's sixth-place finish, though still a distance behind leaders Manchester City.

Mourinho's men also remain in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Default Re: Alexis Sanchez

HOW ALEXIS SANCHEZ BECAME A POWERHOUSE

The latest issue of Inside United magazine is out now – and, perhaps unsurprisingly, one man is a prominent feature.

Alexis Sanchez is the cover star, following his eagerly awaited arrival from Arsenal last month, and the Reds’ new no.7 has his own dedicated section in the March edition of the club’s official magazine.

A highlight of the 16-page special is a fascinating account by football journalist Sheridan Bird, who has followed Alexis’s career closely, in this instance focusing on the Chilean’s precocious early exploits in South America and his journey to the top.

It features the reflections of Italian journalist Pietro Oleotto, who tracked the progress of Alexis during the forward’s time with Udinese in Serie A and describes how he became the man he is today by improving his physical attributes.

“In his first season, he [Alexis] was skinny and stayed on the right wing a lot,” Oleotto recalls. “The physicality in the penalty area was too much for him. But the team needed him more central, closer to the goal, to make the most of his dribbling.

“So he began improving his body and they built him an ad-hoc gym. He worked out for two hours a day after training. I remember seeing him halfway through pre-season training camp and being shocked by how much muscle he had put on.”

Further illustrating the star's commitment, he went on: “Once, after training, Alexis drove into Udine to do some shopping. But he accidentally locked his keys and mobile phone in his car.

"I'm not sure what most people would have done, but he just ran home. He jogged the 8km from the heart of the city to his house in the hills. Bemused locals saw him in his club tracksuit running and called us at the paper. It was typical of Alexis to turn the situation into an improvised cross-country run.”

Elsewhere in the issue, Marcos Rojo gives a wide-ranging interview on his uncompromising style, his single biggest goal with the Reds and the battle ahead on three fronts. You can also hear from fellow defender Luke Shaw, who discusses his fine form of late and leadership in the youth ranks.

There’s plenty more United reading to get stuck into, including a detailed profile on our next UEFA Champions League opponents Sevilla, a look back on the Munich Air Disaster 60th anniversary commemorations, and the usual in-depth round-ups of the Under-18s and Under-23s.

Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez once locked his keys in his car after a training session at Udinese... and RAN the eight kilometres home

* Alexis Sanchez became the highest-paid player in the Premier League last month
* The Manchester United star, however, first made a name for himself at Udinese
* While at Udinese, he made a conscious effort to bulk up and get himself fit
* He once locked keys in his car after training and ran the eight kilometres home

Manchester United's new poster boy Alexis Sanchez became the Premier League's highest-paid player when he moved to Old Trafford last month.

The Chilean rakes in £350,000 a week basic salary, rising to £600,000 after bonuses.

He plied his trade at Arsenal and Barcelona before arriving in Manchester, two of the world's great football clubs.

But the real work began in Udinese – that is where his exceptional talents were first noticed.

It wasn't all plain sailing to the top, however, and in United's magazine this month, there is a 16-page special on the club's newest arrival, some of which detailing his stay in Italy.

One story about his time at Udinese will pique the interest. Italian journalist Pietro Oleotto, who tracked the forward's progress during his time in Serie A, recalled a time where Sanchez chose to run home from training after absent-mindedly locking his keys in his car.

'Once, after training, Alexis drove into Udine to do some shopping,' Oleotto said via United's official website. 'But he accidentally locked his keys and mobile phone in his car.

'I'm not sure what most people would have done, but he just ran home. He jogged the eight kilometres from the heart of the city to his house in the hills. Bemused locals saw him in his club tracksuit running and called us at the paper. It was typical of Alexis to turn the situation into an improvised cross-country run.'

Man United made Alexis Sanchez the highest-paid player in England when they signed him. However, it is a long journey from where he first got noticed, playing for Udinese. He was committed to his training: he once left his keys in his car and ran eight kilometres home

It was typical behaviour at the time because Sanchez had made a conscious effort to bulk up and really whip himself into shape during his time a Stadio Friuli.

Now, the muscle-bound forward boasts a strong physique, but Oleotto remembers a time when that was not the case.

'In his first season, he [Alexis] was skinny and stayed on the right wing a lot,' Oleotto said. 'The physicality in the penalty area was too much for him. But the team needed him more central, closer to the goal, to make the most of his dribbling.

'So he began improving his body and they built him an ad-hoc gym. He worked out for two hours a day after training. I remember seeing him halfway through pre-season training camp and being shocked by how much muscle he had put on.'
