Liverpool, Everton and Man United Keen on £10m Rated Swansea Star

Swansea’s on-loan star has been outstanding since joining from German club Hoffenheim.



On loan Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson could be on his way to Old Trafford this summer, with Sir Alex apparently interested in the winger. Liverpool and Everton also interested, Mirror Football reports. Gylfi Sigurdsson has been valued at £10million, as Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United all warm to the Icelander.

The Swansea midfielder has been in blistering form since his January loan move from German club Hoffenheim. And the former Reading player looks set for another season in the Premier League, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton all keen on the player’s signature.

But the *Bundesliga outfit are now demanding a fee in the region of £10m for the attacking midfielder, who has blasted seven goals in 14 starts for the Swans.

Everton coach Jimmy Lumsden, United scout Martin Ferguson and Kop chief Kenny *Dalglish all watched Sigurdsson in action against Bolton on Saturday.

Swansea would ideally like to extend the former Iceland international’s loan for another year, however Hoffenheim* will know that now’s a good time to cash in with all the top clubs interested. It is likely that they German side will sell to the highest bidder this Summer, with reports in the region of £10m bid thought to be enough to temp the club into selling.

The loan deal has been controversial* with the German side, with their supporters still chanting Sigurdsson’s name every week. The club will know that only a major fee for the 22-year-old will take the heat out of the *decision.

Newcastle to sign French youngster Romain Amalfitano - report

Magpies boss Alan Pardew is ready to raid French football yet again this summer with the 22-year-old Reims midfielder set to join the club on a three-year deal

Newcastle United are set to sign Reims midfielder Romain Amalfitano in the summer, according to L'Equipe.
The 22-year-old is out of contract with the French club at the end of the season and is reported to have agreed a three-year deal with the Magpies.

Reims are in with a good chance of promotion from Ligue 2 this season, but Amalfitano has rejected the chance to stay in favour of a move to England.

Alan Pardew has reportedly been tracking the midfielder for several months and saw his contract situation as an opportunity too good to miss.

The former Southampton and West Ham boss has a good track record when bringing in players from France in recent times.

Yohan Cabaye arrived from Ligue 1 this season and has impressed on Tyneside whilst Hatem Ben Arfa also made that move last season and has come to the fore after recovering from a broken leg.

The presence of so many French-speaking players has become a feature at Newcastle and Magpies fans will be hoping Amalfitano can have a similar impact to his fellow countrymen.

Man City, Liverpool and Spurs on alert as Robben cancels contract talks



Former Chelsea ace Arjen Robben will snub a new deal at Bayern Munich after his row with Franck Ribery - which could pave the way for a second spell in the Premier League.

Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the flying Dutchman, 28, who has become one of the most feared wingers in Europe.

Any move to England looked dead in the water after it emerged that Robben was on the verge of extending his stay in Munich by signing a fresh contract until 2015.

But, according to German newspaper Bild, Robben is now unlikely to agree to the deal and will look elsewhere this summer after a run-in with Frenchman Ribery.

It was reported that the teammates came to blows at half-time of Bayern Munich's Champions League semi-final first leg victory over Real Madrid, during which the pair openly rowed over who would take a free-kick.

It has been revealed that Bayern, who have been keen to downplay the incident, arranged a lunch between the pair the day after the clash in a bid to patch things up.

But Robben is reportedly unhappy in the way that Bayern have kept quiet, instead of supporting him - and was furious when they fined Ribery just £40,000 for the offence, a fraction of his weekly wage.

So unhappy were the midfielder and his agent, who is also his father, that they have decided to snub the new contract - and could begin to look elsewhere.

Robben is out of contract in June 2013, when he could leave on a free, so Bayern may decide to cash in this summer to avoid a cut-price fee in January.

Bayern's president Uli Hoeness confirmed: "All I know is that he was just about to put pen to paper, and now that has all been postponed."

Eden Hazard feeling blue? Lille midfielder drops hint about future

Eden Hazard has suggested that he could join Manchester City or Chelsea this summer after declaring he will "definitely" be wearing blue next season.

The 21-year-old Lille and Belgium midfielder, who has also been linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, has already stated his desire to move to the Premier League. "I want to play in England [next season]. That's what I've decided," Hazard told French television after Lille's win over Paris Saint-Germain last month.

Patrick Vieira, City's football development executive, and Martin Ferguson, the brother of Sir Alex Ferguson and a United scout, both travelled to watch him during that match. Hazard also attended the Manchester derby last week.

When asked by Canal+ whether he prefers red or blue – Lille's home kit is red – Hazard replied that he likes both colours but added: "It's the blue that I'll be wearing next season. Definitely the blue."

Manchester City willing to trade Carlos Tevez or Mario Balotelli for Zlatan Ibrahimovic



Roberto Mancini will consider swap deals for Carlos Tevez or Mario Balotelli to land Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The AC Milan striker is the latest star to be targeted by the Premier League champions – along with Eden Hazard and Robin van Persie.

Mancini has told City’s Abu Dhabi owners he needs to spend big again this summer as he attempts a clean sweep of honours next season. Ibrahimovic is valued at £25m by Milan.

Tevez is the natural choice to head in the opposite direction in a straight swap after his massive fall out with Mancini earlier in the season.

But £20m-rated Balotelli could be Milan’s preferred option and would have lower salary demands than Tevez.

The Italian giants have a long-standing interest in both players, who each tested Mancini’s patience to the limit last season.

And even after pipping United to the title last weekend, he will not have forgotten the torment the controversial strikers put him through.

A touchline bust-up with Tevez in September led to the Argentine going into exile for part of the campaign, while Balotelli’s red card against Arsenal last month looked to be the final straw for a manager who had been willing to indulge the Italian’s wayward antics.

Mancini has since stated Balotelli will remain at the Etihad, but his resolve could be tested if Milan demand he be included in any deal to land Ibrahimovic.

The City manager worked with the 30-year-old Swede when in charge of Inter Milan and still considers him one of the top strikers in Europe.

And Mancini, who is also hoping to land Lille playmaker Hazard and Arsenal forward Van Persie in a double deal worth around £60m, believes he needs even more world-class talent to turn City into Champions League winners.

He said: “A team like us now need to try to win every game and every trophy. You cannot say you choose Champions League or the Premier League. It is impossible.

“Probably we will buy some good players because we need to improve.”

But it is clear the Champions League is Mancini’s new priority after ending City’s 44-year wait for a title.

“The Champions League is a strange tournament,” he said. “Because you have to be lucky to win the Champions League, you have to have good form in a crucial moment.”

Out of Luk: Modric prepared to leave after Spurs are denied a Champions League place

The Croatian playmaker will consider his future after the European Championships, which could lead to a second successive transfer request



Luka Modric is prepared to hand in a transfer request after Spurs were denied a place in the *Champions League.

Chelsea’s dramatic victory over Bayern Munich on Saturday night means they go straight into next season’s group stages and Tottenham fall into the Europa League.

And that spells a problem for Spurs with Real Madrid the latest big club to show an interest in Modric, who is already in the sights of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy insisted last week that the club would fight to keep its best players this summer.

But Mirrorfootball revealed 26-year-old Modric – who has had NO salary hike despite Chelsea’s interest last year – is in no hurry to commit himself to White Hart Lane.

He said: “I will decide about my future after the Euros. I will make the decision where to continue my career. I’m ready for the big tests.”

A transfer request from the midfield star would make it the second successive summer in which has declared his intention to leave for a bigger club.

Last year Levy came out on top after insisting Spurs were no longer a selling club and rejected a £40million offer from Chelsea.

This time around, however, Levy could find it more difficult with all of the clubs in for him able to offer better wages and the chance to play *alongside better players.

The Modric affair comes as Spurs begin to feel the repercussions of not finishing third in the Premier League.

Winger Gareth Bale hinted before Saturday’s win for Chelsea that he would consider his position if Spurs failed to make next season’s *Champions League. And talented £22million-rated Marseille striker Loic Remy may now decide to snub their interest.

Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen, also pursued by Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal, is another who could look elsewhere after indicating he was keen to go to White Hart Lane.

Boss Harry Redknapp has just a year left on his contract and, with no new deal on the table, could attract rival clubs.

Even if Spurs were to go on and win the Europa League next season they would only pull in a *fraction of the £25.3m they earned from reaching the Champions League quarter-finals two years ago.

From 2-0 up at Arsenal in the north London derby in February, Tottenham were crushed 5-2 and went on to win just four of their remaining 13 games.

The slump coincided with the FA’s interest in Redknapp for the England job, and Spurs are now counting the cost of that end-of-season collapse.

At last, we truly have heard it all in the Eden Hazard transfer saga.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Manchester City could walk away from the bargaining table over Hazard's wage demands. Apparently, Manchester "Stupid Money" City think Hazard wants too much money.

City have made it clear to Hazard and his advisers that they will not meet his salary demands, which are understood to be around £200,000 a week. Instead they are prepared to offer around £110,000 a week.

[S]enior figures at the Etihad Stadium have no intention of sanctioning a pay deal which would mean he earned more than Sergio Agüero, David Silva and the club captain, Vincent Kompany.

On the other hand, Goal.com is reporting that City manager Roberto Mancini will "lead a charm offensive" that's designed to seal the deal.

City had hoped Hazard would confirm his intention to move to the Etihad Stadium on Monday but they have been frustrated by the demands of the player and his agent, who has asked for nearly £5 million for his part in any deal.

Mancini has made Hazard his top transfer target and will now personally intervene and talk to him when he returns to Manchester this week from Abu Dhabi, where he has been meeting the club's owners about a new contract.

Juventus have given up on signing Robin van Persie (didn't that already happen though?) and will now turn their attention to Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool's Luis Suarez.

Drogba Latest


Update: Chelsea have confirmed Didier Drogba will leave the club this summer.

Reports out of France yesterday indicated that Didier Drogba had "decided to leave" Chelsea. The reports were quickly denied.

Here's Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay, per ESPN Soccernet:

"Conversations with Didier have been going on for months and still are," Gourlay told Chelsea TV. "He's made it clear he loves Chelsea and loves everything he's achieved at the club. Once we're ready to make an announcement, we'll do so."

According to The Independent's Sam Wallace, however, Chelsea are ready to let Drogba leave.

Chelsea and Didier Drogba will announce the striker's departure in the next few days, with both sides reconciled to the fact that a parting of the ways after Saturday's victorious Champions League final is now inevitable.

The club do not see the logic of giving the Ivorian the two-year deal he wants and being a free agent will be lucrative for Drogba, with the possibility of following Nicolas Anelka to the Chinese super league.

Torres Latest


Another Chelsea striker, Fernando Torres, made news recently after expressing his "disappointment" over starting the Champions League final on the bench.

But according to The Guardian, Torres will not leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Didier Drogba has confirmed he will leave Chelsea this summer but Fernando Torres will not be following his fellow striker out of the club despite the Champions League winners' hierarchy having been left distinctly unimpressed by the timing of the Spaniard's publicly expressed frustration at life as a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge.

Silva to Real Madrid?


Our next contestant is Manchester City's David Silva, and the suitors are Real Madrid.

Silva only has two years left on his contract at the Etihad and talks have yet to start about an extension.

Juventus to Cash In?


Let's leave the English game for a moment, shall we?

In Italy, Juventus are reportedly ready to resign Sebastian Giovinco from Parma—only to "cash in" on the Italian forward right away.

Goal.com has the details:

The Italy international came through the ranks of the Juventus youth academy, but the Old Lady sold 50 per cent of the player's rights to Parma in the summer of 2011.

Giovinco has become a key player for the Gialloblu having scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists in Serie a last term, and Juventus are determined to acquire the attacker's full economical rights.

Although head coach Antonio Conte is a keen admirer of the 25-year-old, Giovinco's future doesn't appear to lie in Turin as the 25-year-old demands regular first-team action, and Juventus cannot guarantee the Italy international a starting berth.

Therefore, Juventus are planning to cash in on Giovinco in the summer transfer window in order to generate funds to finance their own transfer plans, namely to sign a world-class striker.

Sure, that makes perfect sense.

Meanwhile, Goal.com is also reporting that Juventus president Andrea Agnelli believes "big-money transfers will be phased out" over the coming years.

Donovan Back to Everton?


American star Landon Donovan wants another loan spell at Everton.

ESPN Soccernet reports:

"I would absolutely like to come back," he told FIFA's website. "There's no question about that, and I know I will be back at some point. Now, whether I'm back as a player or just as a fan, who knows?"

Donovan, 30 (!), completed loan stints at Everton in 2010 and 2012.

Ibra, Silva to Stay?


Neither Zlatan Ibrahimovic (pictured) nor Thiago Silva will leave AC Milan this summer.

That's according to Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri, who is quoted by Goal.com:

The club and the president are keen to maintain Milan at a high level. Ibrahimovic and Thiago will remain here," the head coach stated to Milan Channel.

"Thiago is young and Ibrahimovic can also give a lot. They are two champions on which Milan can build their basis for the future.

"The club is only working on replacing those players who have left."

Elsewhere, Goal.com is reporting that Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is working on a £40 million move for Thiago Silva.

Modric Out? Diarra In?


Plenty of Tottenham Hotspur news today.

First, Spurs could swap midfielder Luka Modric (pictured, right) for Real Madrid's Lassana Diarra.

Diarra has just one year left on his contract at Real and is now ready to quit the club in search of regular first-team football.

Although Turkish club Fenerbahce are keen the midfielder wants to return to England where he lifted the FA Cup at Portsmouth under Harry Redknapp.

Elsewhere, the report says Spurs are close to signing Jan Vertonghen from Ajax. It also says Tottenham want to sign French striker Loïc Remy from Marseille.

Bayern After Howedes?


Bayern Munich's rebuilding effort could include a move for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes.

Bayern Munich are preparing a bid for Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes, Bild report. The German giants are willing to offer €5 million plus right-back Rafinha in exchange for the defensive all-rounder.

The 24-year-old Howedes has long been linked with Bayern, with the club having had an offer rejected last season due to Schalke's unwillingness to part ways with a second key figure after selling Manuel Neuer. However, as Goal.com revealed in January, the Gelsenkirchen side promised to listen to offers in the summer of 2012.

Di Matteo Trial?

Baines to Man Utd, Dzeko to Juventus, Falcao to Chelsea?


As everyone knows, when the season closes, Premier League boardrooms erupt into life: names are scrawled on bits of paper, phones slammed down, bundles of money thrown out of windows. It’s all been kicking off, particularly, they say, at Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. The Life’s a Pitch panel cast their eyes over the latest transfer rumours before either dismissing them out of hand or suggesting that there could be something in that.

First up is Everton’s shy left-back, Leighton Baines, who has been linked with a move to Man Utd. Jason Burt of the Daily Telegraph takes this one. “The fact that Leighton Baines might want to leave Everton is nothing new,” he insists. “I think he’s been a little bit unsettled for a year or two. That said, he had a chance to go to Bayern Munich a while ago and he didn’t take it. I’m not sure he’d go to Man Utd either – I’ll give this [rumour] a five out of 10.”

Next, Rory Smith of the Times wonders whether Manchester City’s disappointing striker Edin Dzeko might end up plying his wares around Italy next season – specifically with Juventus. “Man City want rid of Dzeko, so I think it’s likely he’ll leave, but Juventus are also looking at a Uruguayan striker in the northwest of England, so I’ll give the likelihood of this rumour [coming true] four out of 10.”

Lastly, Dominic Fifield of the Guardian tackles Chelsea’s latest striker conundrum. Do they splurge £50million on Atletico Madrid’s white-hot goal machine Falcao? “It was a transfer first mooted this time last year,” says Dominic. “Chelsea will be in the market for a striker to replace Drogba, and Falcao would fit the bill – 36 goals for Atletico this season, the star of the Europa League final, a player of real pedigree. But £50million? If anyone could, Chelsea could. I’ll give it a seven.”

Manchester United have bid rejected for Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa



Manchester United have had a bid of around €16m (£12.8m) for Borussia Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa rejected, according to a highly-placed source at the German club.

The offer for the 23-year-old midfielder was not accepted as Dortmund value Kagawa closer to €20m. But as he cost just €350,000 when the German champions bought him from the Japanese club Cerezo Osaka two years ago, it is thought that the deal may go through next week for around €17-18m.

Sir Alex Ferguson watched Kagawa a fortnight ago when he scored in Dortmund's 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup final. He scored 13 goals in 31 league games as Dortmund won the Bundesliga from Bayern by eight points and would fit the profile currently adhered to by United of a young player who could improve and not cost a premium price.

Chelsea ‘Reject’ Set to Sign for Schalke

Stamford Bridge forward to sign for Bundesliga side.



Chelsea ‘reject’ Salomon Kalou is ready to say goodbye to the Premier League and sign for German side Schalke.

The Ivory Coast attacker became a free agent after the Blues’ season-ending Champions League Final triumph.

And now Schalke have put a lucrative package to Kalou that may be enough to get him to switch to the Bundesliga – and potentially face his old Stamford Bridge team-mates next season in Europe’s elite competition.

The 26-year-old had been linked with several clubs in England, but is expected to commit to Schalke shortly.

Schalke may well be in need of another attacking option given that Raul opted to leave the Bundesliga side after two successful seasons that yielded 40 goals and saw the Spanish veteran form a fruitful pairing with Dutch international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Salomon Kalou has struggled to gain a foothold in the Chelsea first team throughout his six years at Stamford Bridge and a move to Schalke could well herald a new chapter in the Ivory Coast attackers career and finally offer the former Feyenoord man a regular spot in a starting eleven.

If indeed Kalou does leave the Blues his final appearance would be a memorable one as he was part of Roberto Di Matteo’s triumphant Champions League winning side. The Chelsea man has amassed a total of 147 starts for the West London side, plus another 107 appearances from the bench, notching up 60 goals in the process.
