Reds squad for Hannover trip



Manchester United will send a strong 19-man squad, including Team GB Olympians Ryan Giggs and Tom Cleverley, to Germany for Saturday’s Chevrolet Cup friendly fixture against Hannover 96.

It’s the final stop on the Reds’ epic DHL Tour 2012, an odyssey that’s already taken United to South Africa, China, Norway and Sweden.

Hannover 96, who finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season, will provide a further stern test as the Reds' preparations for the first game of the 2012/13 campaign – against Everton at Goodison Park on Monday 20 August – intensify.

Giggs and Cleverley, fresh from their London 2012 footballing exploits, should get their first taste of United pre-season action in the AWD Arena, while youngsters Michael Keane and Robbie Brady gain further Tour 2012 experience.

Squad: De Gea, Lindegaard; Evra, Ferdinand, M Keane, Vidic; Anderson, Bebe, Brady, Carrick, Cleverley, Giggs, Nani, Valencia, Young; Berbatov, Hernandez, Kagawa, Rooney.

State of play: United's final game of the DHL 2012 pre-season tour promises to be a tough examination against well-drilled Bundesliga outfit Hannover. With goals at a premium of late, the Reds will aim to start hitting the net and pick up the Chevrolet Cup. Hannover are fresh from easing past St Patrick's Athletic in the Europa League preliminaries on Thursday and have looked sharp in attack during their pre-season with 9-0 and 12-0 wins among their results.

Ins and outs: Phil Jones' back problem will be asssessed while Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are still sidelined. Olympians Tom Cleverley and Ryan Giggs could be available again but Rafael is still involved in the tournament's final. The hosts at the AWD-Arena will be without Mame Biram Diouf through injury but another former Red, Ron-Robert Zieler, should keep goal.

Last game: This is the first time that the two teams have met competitively.

Opposition boss: Mirko Slomka took over the reins at die Roten in early 2010 and guided the team to fourth in the Bundesliga the following year. The 5-0 aggregate win against St Patrick's moves the club closer to another season of Europa League football after reaching the quarter-finals last term.
