Michael Carrick insists Manchester United will be motivated to beat Arsenal this weekend, despite having wrapped up the Barclays Premier League title with four games to spare.

The Premier League record points total of 95 is still within reach, but Carrick believes the champions have a duty to perform in the remaining games anyway.

Third-placed Arsenal will certainly be up for it as they are aiming to secure a Champions League place in a close battle with Chelsea and Tottenham that looks set to go to the wire.

Carrick told ManUtd.com: "We’ll approach it the same as always because our pride dictates that we want to win the game.

"We’ve won the league but we won’t go there and relax; we want to put on a good performance and try to play as if the title depended on it – that’s how we’ll approach it.

"Of course we’re in a position where we can play with a bit of freedom but we still want to get a result, so we won’t be taking anything lightly.

"We don’t want to take our foot off the gas; we want to carry on until the end of the season. It’s only fair to us and the other teams that we do as much as we can."

Sir Alex has outlined his desire to involve the fringe players in his squad in the final few games and Carrick can appreciate why.

"The big thing about this season is that everyone has played a part; everyone has contributed to us winning the league," the in-form midfielder added.

"The manager has changed the team regularly and everyone wants to be a part of it now because it’s a great time to play. We can enjoy it and play with confidence, whatever team the manager picks."

Carrick carried an injury through Monday’s title-clinching win over against Aston Villa but if he is involved at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, he could come up against fellow midfielder and countryman Jack Wilshere, a player he admires.

"I’ve played against Jack a couple of times and you can see he’s a big talent with a great chance of doing really good things in the game," Carrick added.

"Unfortunately he’s had a bit of a stop-start career so far: he suffered an injury last season and has had one or two niggles this season.

"He’s still young and still learning but he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders because people expect big things of him.

"In an ideal world he’d be left to develop but that’s the nature of the beast in football. I’m sure he’ll cope with it fine and go on to have a good career."

Nostalgia: United score six at Arsenal

Mark Godfrey recalls a thrilling League Cup encounter between Arsenal and Manchester United as the rivals prepare to meet again in London this weekend.

The League Cup has taken many names over its 53-year history, and in the 1990-91 season the electrical retailer Rumbelows gave their name to the competition that would give us a cracking cup tie for us to watch on their rented telly sets.

George Graham’s Arsenal, a canny mix of cloggers, muggers, drinkers and dribblers, hosted Alex Ferguson’s pretenders, Manchester United, in their first meeting since the infamous Old Trafford brawl of just one month earlier where 21 of the 22 players engaged in a full on handbag-fest which resulted in a points deduction for both clubs. Moustachioed Gunners ‘keeper David Seaman being the only man to refrain from joining in the contretemps.

This midweek, televised clash between these two arch enemies burst into life after a mere two minutes of action. United’s perma-tanned full-back Clayton Blackmore drilled his free kick low past the Arsenal wall and into the net past ‘Spunky’ Seaman to silence the packed North Bank end of Highbury.

Both sides were going at it hammer-and-tongs, and with chances aplenty at both ends it was United who would extend their lead when former England winger Danny Wallace squared the ball across the box for curly-haired, Welsh wrestler Mark Hughes to smash another past the helpless Seaman. The famous Arsenal back four were being mesmerised by the visitors’ attacking style. Unsurprising given the eye-frazzling design of United’s away shirts.

Worse was to come when Lee Dixon was robbed of the ball by snake-hipped, Brummie fanny rat Lee Sharpe, who then curled a glorious, uncharacteristic right-footed effort into the top corner from 20 yards out to give Fergie’s men an unbelievable three-goal lead. Sharpe, who was all the rage at Old Trafford before Ryan Giggs was even a glint in Ferguson’s eye, would end the night as the star of the show.

The half-time whistle blew to give the erstwhile stuffed-envelope enthusiast Graham the opportunity to rollock his usually miserly defence, and the travelling fans, who in those days all came from Manchester, a reason to party in the capital.

The early stages of the second half gave the Gunners hope of a comeback when big-nosed striker Alan Smith pounced on a volley from Michael ‘It’s Up For Grabs Now’ Thomas which rebounded off United’s slightly unhinged goalie Les Sealey to narrow the deficit to two goals.

Smith would exploit Sealey again soon after following a corner on Arsenal’s right hand side. Chief rabble-rouser Tony Adams headed goalwards only for Sealey to fumble weakly and the lanky frontman poked home his second of the night. 2-3 and game on, or so Arsenal thought!

The revival was snuffed out when Denis Irwin, one of Ferguson’s greatest signings, swung over an inch-perfect cross from the United right. Sharpe ghosted into the box and leapt like the proverbial salmon to nod home a fourth goal.

The 19-year-old would then bag his hat-trick following more good work by Wallace who slotted the left winger through the heart of the absent Gunners rearguard to slot past Seaman again for an incredible 5-2 lead.

The diminutive former Southampton man Wallace would deservedly round off the drubbing when he got on the end of Hughes’ drilled cross to score the sixth and final United goal of the night.

Arsenal’s collective broken and flattened noses may have been out of joint temporarily after this defeat but they would ultimately lift the League title after suffering just one defeat and conceding a record-breaking 18 goals all season. They were denied in the FA Cup by a Gazza-inspired Tottenham in that famous Wembley semi-final.

Although Ferguson and United weren’t quite at the stage of winning Championships yet, the fruits of the Scotsman’s labour were slowly coming to bear. They would lose the Rumbelows Cup Final to Sheffield Wednesday, managed by former United boss Ron Atkinson in a classic final, but would taste European glory in Rotterdam, defeating Johann Cruyff’s Barcelona in the Cup Winners Cup Final.

Sir Alex to pick strongest XI

Sir Alex Ferguson*believes Manchester United "have a duty" to take the*rest of the*Barclays Premier League*season seriously and*says he will*play his strongest possible team*for this Sunday's*clash*with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Of course, the Reds*clinched the*title in style on Monday via an emphatic 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, prompting some to suggest the boss will*select a rotated team against the Gunners and the remaining fixtures with Chelsea, Swansea and West Brom.

However, speaking during his weekly press conference at Carrington, Sir Alex insisted there will be no let-up from United and claimed his side*should respect the*clubs still fighting for league positions and, in particular, UEFA Champions League qualification.

“We have a few bumps and bruises from the other night but it is hopefully nothing serious and I expect to have a strong side on Sunday,” the boss told reporters.

“Having won the league, there's always a danger of falling into the trap of 'it's all over and we can relax' and enjoy ourselves but I think we've got a duty to other clubs who are chasing Champions League places.

“Also, the rivalry we've had with Arsenal and then Chelsea over the years does put an edge to these games anyway so hopefully we'll represent ourselves in the right way.”

Arsenal Akan Sambut Manchester United Dengan 'Guard Of Honour'

yaa semoga aja bukan game yg 'ngasih'
prediksi seri atau selisih satu gol,
tapi ngarep (apalagi kalo yg main yg muda2) bisa agak ngotot lah ngejar gol

Default Re: [EPL] Arsenal vs Manchester United

26/04/2013 - ManUtd.com, G Thompson, S Bibby
Preview: Arsenal v Manchester United

Form guide: The champions, who have won nine and lost just one of their last 11 games against Arsenal in all competitions, are 16 points clear at the top of the table and in fine fettle after clinching the title on Monday night. Sunday's match is another huge game for Arsenal who are fighting with Chelsea and Tottenham for one of the remaining Champions League spots. The Gunners have been in good form of late with six wins from their last eight league games. They're prolific in front of goal at the Emirates too - they're just one behind top scorers United in the home-scoring stakes.

Ins and outs: Sir Alex has promised to field a strong side at the Emirates (United still have the chance to beat Chelsea's record points' tally), but the Reds remain without Ashley Young who is out for the remainder of the campaign with an ankle complaint, while Paul Scholes could still be missing with a knee problem. Nemanja Vidic and Chris Smalling both sat out Monday’s title-clinching win over Villa, but could return at the Emirates. Arsenal are definitely without Lukasz Fabianski (rib), Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) and Abou Diaby (knee), but Mikel Arteta (ankle) may be back.

Last meeting: Robin van Persie inevitably got on the scoresheet against his former club back in November at Old Trafford, and after just three minutes when he lashed home his 10th goal of the campaign after a mistake by Thomas Vermaelen. Patrice Evra netted what turned out to be the winner soon after the hour-mark, heading home unmarked from a Rooney corner. Sandwiched between the two goals was a missed penalty from Rooney, while Arsenal had Jack Wilshere sent off for a second bookable offence long before Santi Cazorla pulled back a consolation goal in the fourth minute of injury time. It was, however, too little too late for the Gunners.

Did you know? United can set a new Barclays Premier League points record of 96 by winning the last four games. The Reds’ previous highest totals have been: 92 (1993/94), 91 (1999/00), 90 (2008/09) and 89 (2006/07 and 2011/12).

Opposition boss: There isn’t much more to say about Arsene Wenger that we don’t already know. He confirmed on Friday that his team will hold a guard of honour for United's players before Sunday's match. "I want the traditions of English football to be respected,” he insisted.

Star man: Santi Cazorla. No-one has started more times and scored more goals in the league than the highly accomplished Spanish playmaker. He proved a tricky customer in the clash between the sides at Old Trafford and netted the Gunners’ consolation goal. He’ll need closely monitoring on Sunday.

Quote/unquote: "Having won the league, there's always a danger of falling into the trap of 'it's all over and we can relax' and enjoy ourselves but I think we've got a duty to other clubs who are chasing Champions League places. Also, the rivalry we've had with Arsenal and then Chelsea over the years does put an edge to these games anyway so hopefully we'll represent ourselves in the right way.” – Sir Alex Ferguson

Sub-plots: Having helped his current team claim title no.20, will United’s no.20 return to haunt his former club and dent their Champions League hopes?

Whistle blower: Phil Dowd has taken charge of just two United games this season – the FA Cup third round replay win over West Ham and the quarter-final defeat at Chelsea. He has dished out 111 yellow cards this term and five red.

Rivals watch: Obviously the Champions need not worry about other teams’ results for the remainder of the campaign, but if you’re interested Manchester City host West Ham on Saturday lunchtime. « Masih ada ya rival to watch
