Sergio Aguero and Manchester City given extra 24 hours to appeal FA violent conduct charge for elbow on West Ham defender Winston Reid

* Manchester City have until 5pm on Thursday to appeal the FA charge
* Sergio Aguero appeared to throw an elbow into Winston Reid's face
* Club have been given an extra 24 hours due to transfer deadline day
* Aguero could miss games with Man United, Swansea and Bournemouth

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been allowed an extra 24 hours for his appeal against an FA charge of violent conduct.

The club said their officials dealing with the paperwork would be busy with transfer negotiations on deadline day, so the FA have agreed to give them an extra day.

They now have until 5pm on Thursday to decide whether to appeal.

The Argentine striker was charged after throwing an elbow at West Ham's Winston Reid during Sunday's 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Referee Andre Marriner was only a few yards away from the incident but did not spot Reid being hit in the jaw.

If found guilty he will miss three matches, including the derby against local rivals Manchester United on September 10.

Aguero will also be out for a Premier League clash against Bournemouth and an EFL Cup trip to Swansea City.

An FA statement read: 'Off-the-ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite match officials.

'Each panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence.

'For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.'

Guardiola said on Sunday that he hadn't seen the altercation but promised City would plough on regardless.

Aguero pulled out of international duty with Argentina this week because of a calf problem and might have struggled for fitness ahead of the United clash.
It would leave Guardiola with decisions to make before the opening duel with Jose Mourinho.

With Kelechi Iheanacho as his only recognised striker, Guardiola may be forced to play Nolito or even Raheem Sterling through the middle.

Burnley striker Andre Gray has also been given extra time to respond to an FA charge relating to historical posts made on social media.

Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of Henrikh Mkhitaryan after he limped out of action on international duty.

With just 10 days to go until the Manchester derby, the Armenia skipper collided with Czech Republic defender Marek Suchy during a friendly match and asked to be substituted.

The former Borussia Dortmund man appeared to be clutching at his chest after the hefty coming together, which occurred as he led an Armenia breakaway.

Mhitaryan is yet to start a competitive match for United but has made substitute appearances in all four of the club's matches so far this term.









He staked his claim for a place in Jose Mourinho's first XI for the clash against City with a stellar cameo performance against Hull last weekend.

The 27-year-old made a huge impact off the bench at the KC Stadium as United netted a 92nd minute winner to maintain their 100 per cent Premier League record.
