Re: [UEL] Manchester United vs Liverpool
Manchester United star Ander Herrera launches jibe at Liverpool: We have a better pitch, better grass and better team!
* Ander Herrera believes Thursday's match at Old Trafford will be completely different to the first leg * Manchester United fell to a 2-0 defeat at Anfield but are hoping for revenge * The Spanish midfielder believes home advantage could prove to be vital Ander Herrera has made an impassioned case for Manchester United to beat Liverpool in their Europe League return – saying they have a better team, better pitch and even better grass! United trail 2-0 from last week’s first leg at Anfield, with Liverpool firm favourites to advance to the quarter-final stage at the expense of their old enemy. But after seeing United win all four Premier League meetings between the two clubs under Louis van Gaal, Herrera believes that United can still turn it around at a raucous Old Trafford on Thursday night. ‘We are Manchester United and if Liverpool want to go to the quarter-finals they are going to have to fight,’ warned the Spanish midfielder. ‘Since I was here at United we have played five times against them and won four times. Two times we have played them at home and we won clearly. I think we were the better team and they were not so comfy playing here in front of our fans. ‘Tomorrow [Thursday] will be completely different. Old Trafford is different. The pitch is bigger, the grass is better. It’s another challenge for us and I think we are ready.’ Ander Herrera (left, pictured with Louis van Gaal) has warned Liverpool players to be ready for a fight Herrera denied that United lacked fight in the first leg at Anfield, but knows how much it would mean to their fans to turn the tie around. ‘We always fight, we always have the desire to win,’ he added. ‘You can never say that we don’t want to win or fight. Everyone has to respect us on that issue. ‘We are very proud because we are Manchester United players. But we should have played much better. Now we have another chance tomorrow. 'When you have such a bad game you don’t have to think too much what happened. The next challenge is tomorrow [on Thursday]. The biggest opponent for our fans and our history. Don’t think about the past, just tomorrow [Thursday]. ‘When we play at home we feel stronger. We have more fans at home and our fans, for me, are the best in England. ‘We know how the next week is going to be (if United win or lose), and how happy the fans will be. We want to make them happy. We want to make them proud. ‘It’s a big opportunity to give to them. It is our dream to win tomorrow to give them a very good moment.’ Code:

Re: [UEL] Manchester United vs Liverpool
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal tells his players to believe they can stage comeback against rivals Liverpool
* Manchester United go into the second leg after 2-0 defeat in first encounter * Louis van Gaal has urged his side to go into the game with confidence * The Dutchman wants his supporters to replicate atmosphere at Anfield * Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino scored during the first-leg clash Louis van Gaal has told his players they have to believe Manchester United can stage one of the club’s greatest comebacks against bitter rivals Liverpool in their Europa League second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday. United trail 2-0 from the first meeting at Anfield and are odds-on to be eliminated. However, Van Gaal insists they can still salvage the tie if they can generate the same kind of atmosphere that Liverpool fans created for their team last week. ‘I think the challenge to beat Liverpool and the challenge that we are two goals down is a big challenge,’ said the Dutchman. ‘We have to believe in it, it starts with the players of course but it starts also with the fans. Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said his side are focused on attacking rivals Liverpool ‘They have a lot of impact on the pitch and I have spoken only with the players about the victory and we have to believe in it. ‘We always owe the fans a big result because the fans are paying to see that. We have to deliver. But in sport you can lose and you can win. That you have to accept. It’s very difficult but you have to accept that. ‘I am satisfied about the fans because the results what we have achieved are not the results the fans are thinking we have to fulfil. We don’t fulfil the expectations and you see they support this team and this manager. ‘We need their support also because their impact is big. The atmosphere at Anfield was a big impact also. ‘Tomorrow [Thursday] we only have to think we have to beat Liverpool – and beat them 2-0 not 3-0 because we can do it in extra time. We can do it 2-0 and then we have a chance to reach the next round.’ United know they cannot afford to let Liverpool score another goal, which would leave them needing to score four. But having recovered to beat Midtjylland 5-1 in the last round, Van Gaal is not ruling anything out. ‘We don’t think about conceding a goal,’ he added. ‘We think about making goals. We have done that against Midtjylland, the last opponent before Liverpool. ‘You know we have scored goals within three or four minutes this season so it is possible. ‘The pressure is that we lost 2-0 to Liverpool. Manchester United and the players and myself want to survive and go to the next round, that’s the pressure and the challenge also. It’s a big challenge and for the players and the fans. ‘Also for Liverpool it is a different game. Also tomorrow [Thursday] night and they shall see that.’ Code:

Re: [UEL] Manchester United vs Liverpool
UNITED READY FOR LIVERPOOL CHALLENGE
Louis van Gaal recognises the size of the task awaiting Manchester United tonight but believes that, with the fans’ support, his side can pull off a famous victory over Liverpool. The Reds must overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit to reach the Europa League quarter-finals and add another chapter to the storied history of games under the floodlights at Old Trafford. Asked at his pre-match press conference if he was optimistic United could turn the tie around, van Gaal said: "I think the challenge to beat Liverpool from two goals down is a big one. We have to believe in this and it starts with the players and also the fans. "We owe the fans a big result because they are paying to see that and we have to deliver. The results we have achieved this season are not what the fans are thinking we have to fulfil, but still they support this team and this manager. We need their support – the impact they make is big, as it was at Anfield. "In sport, you can lose and you can win and you have to accept that, but we can only think that we will beat Liverpool. We can do this by 2-0, not 3-0, as we can do it in extra time. We have to do it in the 90 minutes 2-0 and then we have the chance to beat them. We have scored goals within three or four minutes this season, so it is possible." Thursday’s game will be van Gaal’s 150th in Europe, as manager of Ajax, Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar, Bayern Munich and now United. But he’s more concerned with the task in hand for his side. "You know all the statistics and I don't know that," the boss told reporters. "I did an interview with MUTV already and they told me that it has been 150 matches already – a lot, hey!? Do you know the statistics of how many I won or lost? That is more interesting. "It is much more important that we beat Liverpool – that is our aim. If we can do that with a two-goal difference, without conceding, then fantastic. Then we have extra time and we have our fans and we have to make it!" HTML Code:
