FA accused of exploitation by Manchester United and Chelsea fans who face ticket hikes of more than 30% to watch FA Cup final

* Prices for an adult ticket start at £45 but the other three categories are up
* Tickets in other categories cost £80, £115 and £145, representing major rise
* Spokesman for Manchester United Supporters Trust was hugely critical of rise
* Rory Jennings from Chelsea Fan TV described prices as a travesty

The Football Association has been accused of exploitation by fans of both clubs who face ticket hikes of more than 30 per cent to watch this year's FA Cup Final.

Supporters of both Manchester United and Chelsea have hit out at the 'extortionate' price of seats, with those with the best view costing no less than a staggering £145.

Prices for an adult ticket start at £45 - a decrease of £1 on last year. However, the other three categories are priced at £80 (£65 last year), £115 (£85) and £145 (£115).

A spokesman for the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) branded the prices 'extortionate'.

He said: 'The price increases further illustrate the longstanding issue we have with the FA as both the regulator of the game as well as the worst offender when it comes to extortionate ticket prices for fans.

'Ordinary fans should not be punished for the FA's previous poor financial decisions over the Wembley redevelopment. We are equally astonished and angered by the increases which are as much as 30 per cent.

'This is not an ordinary competitive market. It is a captive audience and the FA - who have a monopoly - are trying to extract as much as they can from supporters.'

Manchester United and Chelsea fans must pay increased prices to attend the FA Cup final

The spokesman also pointed out the disparency between prices for the FA Cup Final and rugby league's showcase Challenge Cup Final, where adult tickets range from £18 to £80 and where juniors can buy a seat for as little as £5.

'The cost of putting on both events will be roughly the same,' he said. 'This is purely the FA's choice to charge a lot more.' Rory Jennings, from Chelsea Fan TV, described the increases as 'a travesty'.

'It's not surprising,' he added. 'This is typical of the disgraceful way the FA operate. There is so much money in football and they will make so much, it's such a shame that they still feel they have to take vast sums out of the pockets of fans.

'And we are not talking about Club Wembley here, these are normal seats. You don't even get a prawn sandwich.'

Jennings believes the ordinary supporter will be hit hard by the hikes. 'The cheapest tickets will go first because, let's face it, it's Wembley and the view isn't great wherever you sit.

When they're gone you'll have people with kids faced with paying £145. It is a travesty, but it is to be expected.'

The FA say this is the first time they have raised prices in three years and point out that the final is 'one of the most prestigious events in the sporting calendar'. They add that every penny of profit will be reinvested into the game.

A kick-off time is yet to be set for the May 19 although 5.30pm is thought to be likely. A late kick-off will create further problems for those attempting to return to the north on public transport following the match.

Manchester United and Chelsea happy to make FA Cup showdown at Wembley a 'Ray Wilkins Cup final'

* The FA have no plans to call the Wembley showdown a 'Ray Wilkins Cup final'
* Frank Stapleton suggested the FA should rename the final on May 19
* There will be a number of events planned to honour Wilkins at Wembley
* Wilkins, who starred for both sides, died last month after a heart attack

Manchester United and Chelsea would 'fully support' a call to rename this season's FA Cup final the 'Ray Wilkins Cup final' in honour of their former player — although the FA have no plans to do so.

Wilkins, who starred for both clubs, died last month at the age of 61 after a heart attack.

And, speaking poignantly at his memorial service on Tuesday, former United striker Frank Stapleton suggested that the FA should rename the final between United and Chelsea on May 19 — though it would appear unlikely with the FA stating they are not examining the possibility.

Man United and Chelsea support a call to rename the FA Cup final the 'Ray Wilkins Cup final'. There will be a number of events planned to honour the former England international

However, there will be a number of events planned to honour Wilkins, whose family have been invited to the match.

There will be a four-page tribute in the programme, and the designs of both club's banners will be dedicated to Wilkins, whose name will be shown on screens at Wembley. United and Chelsea will both provide footage for a tribute video to be broadcast on stadium screens before kick-off and fan groups from both clubs are working on a number of ideas.

Middlesex-born Wilkins came through the ranks at Chelsea and made his debut for the club in 1973. He was made captain at Stamford Bridge at the age of 18 before leaving to join United in 1979 following Chelsea's relegation to the Second Division. After five years at Old Trafford, he moved to Italy to play for AC Milan.

Wilkins, an MBE, won 84 caps for England, whom he captained on 10 occasions. He returned to Chelsea in a coaching capacity on a number of occasions following managerial stints at QPR and Fulham.

Jose Mourinho confirms Romelu Lukaku is set to be fit to face former club Chelsea in FA Cup final

* Romelu Lukaku limped out of Manchester United's win over Arsenal
* Scans reveal the Belgium striker did not suffer any serious ankle damage
* Manchester United face Chelsea in the FA Cup final on May 19

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho expects Romelu Lukaku to be fit enough to face Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

The Belgian striker could not complete United's victory over Arsenal, withdrawing hurt during the second half, but Mourinho has backed him to return in time to tackle his former employers on May 19.

Asked about Lukaku's chances of featuring at Wembley, Mourinho said at his press conference ahead of Friday's Premier League game at Brighton: 'Hope so. Looks positive.'

Romelu Lukaku limps off after suffering an ankle injury against Arsenal at Old Trafford

On how the player is feeling, the Portuguese added: 'I don't know. I just know that, of course, (he is) not (available) tomorrow. Apart from that, we need to wait for more scans, more time but not tomorrow.'

It is welcome news for Mourinho who has named Lukaku in his starting line-up more than any other player this season. The Belgium striker, who moved to Old Trafford in a £75million move from Everton last summer, has rewarded his manager with 27 goals in all competitions.

Losing Lukaku for the Chelsea clash would have been a huge blow for Mourinho, with the FA Cup now United's only chance of a trophy this season.

After the win over Arsenal, the United boss admitted he was keeping his fingers crossed that Lukaku would be fit for Wembley.

He said: 'I don't think it's something, or I hope it's not, that in this moment keeps him immediately out of a game that is in three weeks' time. But I don't know.

'He wants to play all the time. He is never tired and, when he has small things, he doesn't care. He still wants to go. So, for him to say immediately, to change him, it is because he couldn't play.'

FA CUP FINAL PREVIEW: CHELSEA V UNITED

Setting the scene… At the end of a season that started nine months ago with the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid, it all comes down to this! United will be looking to end 2017/18 on a high in our 56th competitive game of the campaign, when taking on Premier League rivals Chelsea in the 137th Emirates FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. It’s a repeat of the first final held at the new Wembley in 2007, when Didier Drogba scored an extra-time winner as the Blues won 1-0 under Jose Mourinho, who is now looking to lift the famous trophy for the first time as United manager and claim his fourth piece of silverware to round off his second season at the helm on a winning note.

How can I follow it? Saturday’s final is a teatime encounter, with kick-off at 17:15 BST, and it will be broadcast live on both BBC One and BT Sport 2 in the UK. Subscribers to MUTV (available on Sky and Virgin Media, via the club’s MUTV app or online at MUTV.com) will be able to follow all the build-up on the Match Day show from 15:00 BST and listen to full radio commentary of the game, before watching it in full on Sunday at 18:00 BST. You can also keep up with all the action as it happens via ManUtd.com’s live match blog and by following the club’s official Twitter account @ManUtd.

Any team news for me? It remains to be seen whether Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini and Anthony Martial will be fit enough to be involved. Top scorer Lukaku has missed the last three games after travelling to his native Belgium for treatment on the ankle injury sustained in last month’s win over Arsenal and faces a race to be ready to take on his former club on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mourinho confirmed after last Sunday’s 1-0 win over Watford that Martial had suffered an injury in training two days before and is therefore doubtful for this weekend’s big game. Fellaini hasn’t played in the last two games due to injury, since last appearing in the 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion. The boss could give an update on their respective conditions in his pre-match press conference, which is being held in London on Friday.

How about Chelsea? The Blues are only expected to be without two first-team players for Saturday’s final. Former United midfielder Danny Drinkwater is ruled out with a calf strain, while versatile Brazilian defender David Luiz has a knee injury.

How have they been doing? After being crowned champions in 2016/17 in Antonio Conte’s debut season in charge, the Blues endured a disappointing Premier League title defence, finishing fifth and missing out on Champions League football next term. Following a run of five straight wins, Chelsea failed to win either of their last two league games, labouring to a 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield Town before a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United last Sunday. Having reached their 13th final, the Blues are looking to win the competition for an eighth time and make up for their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in last season’s showpiece, knowing a win would guarantee them a place in the group stage of the Europa League next term.

How have both sides reached this stage? United have advanced to the final by scoring 12 goals and conceding just once. The Reds saw off Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in last month’s semi-final and have beaten Derby County 2-0, Yeovil Town 4-0, Huddersfield 2-0 and Brighton 2-0 in previous rounds. Meanwhile, Chelsea have had a less smooth passage to the showpiece. The Blues needed penalties in a replay to see off Championship side Norwich City in round three, but thrashed Newcastle 3-0 and Hull City 4-0 at home to make the quarter-finals, where they beat Leicester City 2-1 after extra-time, before a 2-0 win over Southampton in the semi-finals.

What happened in this season’s other meetings? Both sides have a victory apiece from the two league encounters this term. Chelsea secured a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in November thanks to Alvaro Morata’s second-half header, before the Reds came from behind to beat the Blues 2-1 at Old Trafford in February, courtesy of Lukaku’s close-range finish and a Jesse Lingard header.

Remembering Ray: There will be a series of special tributes on Saturday in memory of the late Ray Wilkins, who played for both clubs and won the FA Cup with United in 1983. The family of the former England captain, who passed away on 4 April at the age of 61, will be guests at Wembley, while there will be four pages dedicated to Ray in the match programme. His name will also appear on pitchside hoardings when the teams walk out, there will be banners dedicated to Wilkins and a video tribute will be shown before kick-off. Ray's widow Jackie will also present the trophy to the winners.

Anything else I should know? Royal Air Force personnel will play a central role in pre-match proceedings to celebrate the service’s 100th anniversary. Before the game, the teams will be introduced to a presentation party of FA Chairman Greg Clarke, John Nixon, Chairman of the Challenge Cup Committee, and Sir Tim Clarke, President of the competition’s sponsors Emirates. Ahead of kick-off, the national anthem will be sung by British soprano Emily Haig. Meanwhile, the names of 137 goalscorers from this season’s FA Cup campaign – including Alexis Sanchez and Chelsea’s Willian – will feature on the ball for Saturday’s game, as part of the FA’s ‘Ball for All’ initiative to celebrate players from different divisions across the country that took part this term.

What’s our FA Cup record like? United will compete in a record-equalling 20th final and will be hoping to match Arsenal’s record of 13 FA Cup triumphs by lifting the trophy for the second time in three years. The Reds came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1, thanks to Lingard’s stunning extra-time winner, in the 2016 final under Louis van Gaal.

What’s our overall record against Chelsea? Historically, the Reds have a positive record against the Blues, winning 74 of the sides’ 179 meetings in all competitions, stretching back to 1905. United also have the edge in the 14 previous FA Cup clashes between the teams, winning eight ties to Chelsea’s four with two draws leading to replays. The Reds were beaten in the aforementioned 2007 final against the Blues, but thumped the Londoners 4-0 in the only other meeting between the sides in the final in 1994, when United completed a league and cup double for the first time.

How have we done at Wembley? Saturday’s showpiece will be United’s 52nd appearance at the national stadium. The Reds have won on 28 of the previous 51 visits, drawing five and losing 18. Those games have included 18 FA Cup finals, seven League Cup finals and two European Cup finals.

Did you know? United will come up against Chelsea at Wembley for an eighth time, which means we will have faced the Blues at the national stadium on more occasions than any other team. It will be the Reds’ first encounter with the west Londoners at the venue since a 3-1 win in the 2010 Community Shield. United will be looking to make amends for our last FA Cup meeting with Chelsea, who won 1-0 in last season’s quarter-final at Stamford Bridge through N’Golo Kante’s low strike, after Reds midfielder Ander Herrera was sent off for a second bookable offence in the first half.

Who’s the referee? Michael Oliver will take charge of Saturday’s event, which will be the 33-year-old’s fifth major final at Wembley. The Northumberland whistler handled 30 Premier League games in 2017/18, more than any other referee, including the Reds’ 2-0 win over Leicester in August and 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester City in December. Oliver will be assisted by Lee Betts and Ian Hussin, while Lee Mason is the fourth official and Constantine Hatzidakis is the reserve assistant. For the first time in an FA Cup final, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will be in operation, with Neil Swarbrick fulfilling the role, along with assistant Mick McDonough.

Default Re: [FAC] Final : Manchester United vs Chelsea

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WEMBLEY FOR UNITED

London, and Wembley, await for Manchester United, who will meet Chelsea on Saturday in the club’s 20th Emirates FA Cup final. It all comes down to the Reds’ 56th and final game of the season.

Jose Mourinho’s men capped a positive Premier League campaign last Sunday, by beating Watford 1-0 thanks to Marcus Rashford’s first-half goal. But, although United finished with 12 more points than last term and secured our highest league finish since 2012/13, the prospect of silverware makes Saturday's clash against the Blues a season-defining one.

“This club is about titles, about trophies, it’s about finals,” accepts Ander Herrera, whose winning goal in the semi-final victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month earned the Reds' place in this weekend's showpiece fixture. “We have another chance to play in another final against a top team.”

The Spanish midfielder was an unused substitute during United’s last FA Cup final win – a 2-1 success over Crystal Palace in 2016, when Jesse Lingard’s extra-time volley sealed what was, at the time, a record-equalling 12th triumph for the club.

But Herrera is under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task awaiting United at the national stadium.

“[There is] fifty per cent of possibilities for us. We will respect Chelsea, they are a top team and are used to winning as well. That makes the final even more difficult. But we are Manchester United, so they are going to respect us as well.”

Herrera was injured when the two sides last met, in February’s league match at Old Trafford, which the Reds won 2-1, but his bad luck gave Academy graduate Scott McTominay a chance to shine.

“There are positives to take from that game,” said the Lancaster-born Scottish international, who received widespread praise for a disciplined man-marking job on Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard. “The FA Cup final is the cup competition in England that everyone wants to win. It’s important that we do go and really take the game to them and come away with the trophy.”

Like Herrera, Phil Jones was on the bench for the 2016 final against Palace, but can harbour high hopes of winning a starting berth on Saturday, after an excellent performance alongside Chris Smalling in the semi-final against Spurs.

United’s no.4, who is approaching seven years at the club, believes the pressure on the team to regularly win silverware should be embraced ahead of challenges like Saturday’s final.

“It’s a fantastic history that we’ve got. Time does not stand still and we can’t let opportunities pass us by like the FA Cup final coming up. This team and this squad is the one that has to keep producing trophies and maintaining the history of the club.”

On Saturday, Mourinho’s men have the chance to do just that, by winning a record-equalling 13th FA Cup, which would, once more, make United the competition’s most successful club, alongside Arsenal.

More importantly, it would add another piece of silverware to Old Trafford’s bulging trophy cabinet, and provide tens of thousands of travelling Reds with one of the days of their lives beneath the famous Wembley arch.

Come on, United!

Default Re: [FAC] Final : Manchester United vs Chelsea

WHO WILL BE UNITED'S KEY MAN ON SATURDAY?

One of the burning questions ahead of the Emirates FA Cup final with Chelsea on Saturday is just who will be Manchester United's key man on the big day?

We asked four of the club's legends to answer this poser and each came up with a different response. There were plenty of choices available to the former Reds, of course, with many individuals already playing their part during the road to the final in the victories over Derby County, Yeovil Town, Huddersfield Town, Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur.

Andy Cole:
"Oh dear me! Well, if Eden Hazard and Willian play well, it will most probably be our keeper, David De Gea. He has been fantastic this season, winning Player of the Year again. Hopefully, we can get service to whoever plays up front too. If it's Romelu Lukaku, we'll have to wait and see."

Denis Irwin:
"I'm hoping Romelu Lukaku will be fit. We’ve struggled for goals, of late, without him. He’s such a main player for us and such a main goalscorer for us. I wouldn’t say we’re over-reliant on him but there are shades of last season when Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored very much the bulk of our goals. It’s been the same again this year. I hope Romelu will score against his former team and win us the cup."

Bryan Robson:
"I think Ander Herrera could be important if he gets a marking role from the manager but I wouldn't say he's going to be the most important player. The most important player is the one who is going to give Chelsea problems. Now, it's whether that's going to be Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba or Romelu Lukaku, if he's fit. They've all got a role in trying to create and score a goal for us. But I'm hoping Alexis can keep up his good record at Wembley. He's also had great success in this competition with Arsenal as well. Hopefully, it's his favourite competition and he can go on to put in a great performance to help win us the game."

Edwin van der Sar:
"Let’s hope to see the key man is Paul Pogba and he has a good game. He is a lad that almost has a Mancunian accent and really loves the club and the city. Let’s hope he gets the goals in the final."

IMPORTANT FAN ADVICE FOR FA CUP FINAL

Manchester United supporters who are travelling to Wembley Stadium for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup final against Chelsea are advised to read some key information ahead of the game.

The Football Association and Wembley Stadium have issued the following advice regarding pre-match arrangements and arriving at the ground:

- Enhanced searches will be in operation and fans are encouraged to arrive at least one hour before kick-off

- Bringing bags should be avoided

- Wembley is a public transport destination and using public transport is the easiest way to get there

- Car parking is limited and driving is not encouraged. Please only drive if you have pre-booked parking via www.wembleyofficialparking.com

- United fans have been allocated the following local pubs to visit ahead of the game: The Green Man / The Arch / Station 31 (Speakeasy) / JJ Moons / Thirty Eddie’s / Flannery’s / Fusilier / Masti / The Corner House (Mannions) / The Liquor Station / Moore Spice

ADVICE FOR FANS TRAVELLING BY TRAIN

Virgin Trains will be running two additional services from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly for fans heading back north after the game. These are due to depart London Euston at 20:15 BST and 20:40 BST, calling at Crewe and Stockport.

The last train back to Manchester will leave at 21:00 BST and is expected to be extremely busy so fans are encouraged to make the way back to London Euston immediately upon the final whistle and take advantage of the earlier services.

Direct Trains from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly:
19:40 calling at Crewe, Wilmslow, Stockport
20:15 Relief Service calling at Crewe, Stockport **
20:20 calling at Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Stoke, Macclesfield, Stockport
20:40 Relief Service calling at Crewe, Stockport **
21:00 calling at Milton Keynes, Stafford, Crewe, Wilmslow, Stockport

** The additional trains will only run at these times if the game finishes in 90 minutes. Should the game go to extra time and penalties, Virgin Trains is looking at options to further strengthen their services to Manchester with two departures at 21:10 BST and 21:20 BST. Fans are advised to keep checking the Virgin Trains’ website or the @virgintrains Twitter feed for updates.

For fans looking to stay overnight in London, Virgin Trains will be running a normal Sunday service, with the first departure back to Manchester Piccadilly leaving London Euston at 08:20 BST.
