U18s: United 1 Everton 2 Second-placed United were dealt a surprise defeat by bottom-of-the-table Everton at Carrington. Nathan Craig gave the visitors an early lead when he reacted quickest to a shot that rebounded off the post. After that disappointing start the Reds began to dominate possession, with winger Robbie Brady leading the charge for an equaliser. However, Everton were stubborn and put plenty of men behind the ball to protect their lead. And the longer they kept United out the more they grew in confidence, with Reds keeper Conor Devlin forced into a good save before the break to keep the deficit at just one goal. Then after the break Devlin made another good save, while Brady hit the crossbar with a free-kick that swirled in the wind. Recognising the need for change, Paul McGuinness made a triple substitution, replacing Scott Wootton, Jesse Lingard and John Cofie with Reece Brown, Ravel Morrison and Nicky Ajose. But United were dealt a major blow when Everton grabbed their second shortly after the change. The Reds grabbed a goal back when Everton's keeper palmed home Ajose's corner, but in truth it was one of few occasions where Everton didn't use the windy conditions to their advantage. United will look to bounce back next Saturday against Crewe, a match which will be played at Gresty Road. Kick-off 11:00 BST, adults £2, concessions £1. United: Devlin; Thorpe, Fornasier, Wootton (Brown 65), Fryers; Lingard (Morrison 65), Cole, Tunnicliffe, Brady; W.Keane, Cofie (Ajose 65). Subs not used: Johnstone |

Re: United Academy Match
10/10/2009 12:16, Report by Ben Hibbs
U18s: Crewe 2 United 1 United threw everything at Crewe Alexandra and dominated possession for much of the match, but still ended up losing 2-1 at Gresty Road. The Railwaymen twice struck on the counter attack through forward Jason Oswell in the second half, before Will Keane pulled a goal back late on. But it wasn't enough. Of some consolation was the eye-catching debut from 16-year-old French starlet Paul Pogba in midfield. After all the fuss around his move from Le Havre, it appears, even at this early stage, that he could be well worth it. In the first half United played some great football, with Pogba spraying passes around from midfield and firing just wide from long-range. Ravel Morrison also went close with a shot from 25 yards, but it just wouldn't dip under the crossbar. Pogba continued to impress in the centre of the park. He is very strong on the ball and cultured in possession - comparisons with Patrick Vieira are inevitable. With John Cofie and Robbie Brady on the bench, Paul McGuinness' young Reds just didn't have a cutting edge in attack. However, United started the second half with plenty of intent. It was one-way traffic until Crewe struck on the counter attack to take the lead after 48 minutes through Oswell. Back to square one for United, who began again to pressure the home side. But Crewe once again struck against the run of play, with an overhead kick from Oswell. Pogba rattled the crossbar with a thunderous free-kick with 20 minutes remaining, and Keane's header from Nicky Ajose's cross forced a good save from Daniel Platt in Crewe's goal, who was arguably their best player. With a 2-0 lead to protect, the home team packed men behind the ball and United found it difficult to find a way through. That is, until the last few minutes of the match, when Keane got his first goal of the season - a calm finish from close range after a scramble in the box. It sparked a late surge from the Reds, with Morrison twice going close. But Platt repelled everything, consigning United to a second consecutive defeat. United: Lloyd-Weston; Thorpe, Fornasier, McGinty, Fryers; Lingard, Tunnicliffe, Pogba, Morrison, Ajose; W Keane. ================================================== ======= Nama" baru yg trial di UNITED selain Pogba yg udh resmi |

U18s: United 3 City 0 Will Keane struck a first-half hat-trick to give the Reds a sweet 3-0 victory in Manchester’s mini derby at Carrington. The Under-18 striker’s clinical finishing in the opening 45 minutes proved the difference between the two teams, in a victory that means the Reds leapfrog Manchester neighbours City in the Academy Premier League. United have lost six of the last eight meetings with City, runaway winners of the league’s North-West division last term. But going into this tie, the teams were level in fourth (City) and fifth (United) spots with 11 points apiece. A strong-looking Reds side included Joshua King, who's excelled at Reserves and first-team level this term, plus a second game for French starlet Paul Pogba and a debut for Italian right-back Alberto Massacci. After Pogba's impressive debut during the 2-1 defeat to Crewe last weekend, he was clearly keen to continue where he left off. There were two minutes on the clock when his lovely turn and pass set Keane on his way. City's keeper came out and handled the ball outside the box, but Nicky Ajose's resulting free-kick came to nothing. It was a really bright start from the Reds, which was rewarded in the fourth minute, again with Pogba pulling the strings. This time the French youngster was on the right flank, and his curling cross was met by Ryan Tunnicliffe. The United midfielder couldn't direct his shot goalwards, but nudged the knock-down into Keane's path and he finished calmly for the second weekend in a row from six yards. United went close to a second goal when Ajose fed a pass to King, who did well to stay on his feet and round City’s keeper, before his shot from a tight angle was deflected into the side-netting. City had a good chance after 26 minutes, but a minute later United had doubled the lead. Brady penetrated into City’s box on the left and his pass fell to Tunnicliffe, who slipped as he went to shoot. Fortunately, it landed at the feet of Keane, who was again in the right place to slide the ball into the net. By now firmly on a high, Keane got his third after 42 minutes when Brady bundled his way through on the left, cut the ball back and found Keane lurking. It was another classy and cool finish into the roof of the net from the Stockport-born striker. The Reds could have gone 4-0 up within four minutes of the restart, as King went on a powerful run from the edge of United’s box into City’s area and backheeled a pass to Ajose. But the Reds winger couldn’t direct his shot. After that United had to defend a spell of City pressure as the visitors began to press, but the Reds’ rearguard stood firm. It was a much scrappier second half than the first, with very few clear-cut chances for either side, although King’s power and pace were always a menace to the City defence. Neither side could add to the scoreline, however, and after City’s dominance in this fixture in recent years, this comprehensive victory is sweet revenge for the Reds. United: Devlin; Massacci (Brown 79), Thorpe, Wootton, Fryers; Ajose, Tunnicliffe, Pogba (Cofie 86), Brady; Keane, King (Morrison 86). Subs not used: McGinty. |

U18s: Wolves 2 United 2 United recovered from the loss of two early goals and the enforced substitution of Robbie Brady to claim a point away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Nicky Ajose levelled with just two minutes to spare at the Midlands club's training ground, where the young Reds had trailed for almost the entire match. Wolves were quickly out of the traps on their own patch, taking the lead in the sixth minute through James Spray and doubling their advantage after ten when Nathan Rooney beat Conor Devlin in the United goal. Devlin spared further damage when he prevented Rooney from scoring a penalty in the 25th minute after Nathaniel Mendez-Laing had been brought down. It proved to be a vital save by the 18 year-old Ulsterman, as it enabled Robbie Brady to reduce the deficit to 2-1 just four minutes later. Sadly Brady didn't stay on the pitch for much longer - he was stretchered off in the 38th minute and was replaced by Davide Petrucci. Despite their efforts after the interval, United seemed to be heading for a third defeat in four games until Ajose popped up in the 88th minute to make it even-stevens at the end of an entertaining Academy League match. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Rooney pindah ke Wolves ... |
