Ferguson Depak Giggs-Neville-Scholes

(MIR)

Default Re: [UCL] Man Utd vs Munchen

Euro tonic can lift United

Sir Alex Ferguson believes the Champions League carrot will inspire a United revival after the title setback against Chelsea.

Long term plans are for another time, but Fergie will know his squad needs an inspirational injection this summer.

The champions have suffered their first back-to-back losses of the campaign.

In five days they have lost 2-1 to both Bayern Munich and Chelsea in the biggest and most key games of the season.

The Reds couldn't be lifted after Germany but Fergie is banking on a Champions League semi-final place against either Lyon or Bordeaux coming to United's aid on Wednesday night in the return against Bayern.

“We have to lift ourselves. It is so important,” he said.

“We are trying to get into the semi-final of the European Cup and a final in Madrid beckoning. That is incentive enough.”

After Munich, United have two tough away games against Blackburn and the Manchester derby against City at Eastlands and cannot afford to drop points.

Chelsea's next Premier League match is at home to Bolton before they face the London derby against Tottenham. But Fergie couldn't argue against the fact that Carlo Ancelotti's side have snatched the initiative and now the title is theirs to lose. “Chelsea are definitely favourites now, there is no question about that,” he conceded.

“Five games left, two points ahead and four goals, it is a great position for them to be in. They are in the driving seat.

Fergie's verdict

“We could win our next five games and not win it. It is as simple as that.”

Fergie laid the blame for Saturday's costly defeat at the door of referee Mike Dean.

“It is disappointing. The quality of the official has cost us it,” he said. “I can't understand it. The linesman is directly in front of him (for Drogba's goal). There is no-one near him. There is not a defender in sight and he gets it wrong.

“Really, in a game of that magnitude you really need quality officials. We did not get them. It was a poor performance.

“When I saw Mike Dean I was worried. But I am not going to join in the criticism.

“We deserved more in the second half. First half there is no question Chelsea were the better side and deserved to be in front. Second half we deserved more.

“The first half we looked leggy. We took too long to get going. Chelsea were by far the better team. Second half we did well.

“We were unfortunate not to get something from the game. We dominated that second period and just didn't get there.”

To “get there” United desperately needed Wayne Rooney in a heavyweight clash and there is little doubt that no matter what the Reds achieve this term, and another title and Champions League cannot be discounted, the club cannot go into another season flying by the seat of their pants in attack and worrying about injury to the England hitman.

In the last two seasons the squad has been buoyed by the arrival of just three big name signings in Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia.

Those arrivals have been offset by the departures of headline names Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

United's squad will surely need some fresh flair and imagination this summer to stop it going stale.

Stop feeling sorry for yourselves! Nemanja Vidic rouses Manchester United's wounded troops for crunch Bayern Munich clash

Nemanja Vidic has urged his Manchester United team-mates to stop feeling sorry for themselves and finish the season on a high.

The last week was always likely to be pivotal in United's season but, so far, it could not have gone much worse.

Defeat at Bayern Munich and injury to Wayne Rooney was followed by another dismal loss against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday - a reverse that could have cost United the Premier League title.

But Vidic insists there is no point feeling down about the situation, the tough-tackling centre half insisting that it is at times like these when United need to show some character.

'We were down after the Bayern game but we cannot afford to be down again,' said the Serbian.

'We need to get our heads up and face the facts. We have lost two games but we shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves. We need to seize the moment and make sure we finish well this season.'

Having Rooney available against Bayern for the return leg this week would be the most obvious way of restoring fortunes, although according to Sir Alex Ferguson his 34-goal forward will be missing for at least another week - even if the feeling persists he might be back sooner.

In Premier League terms, though, the demand is straightforward. Two points adrift of Chelsea, with an inferior goal difference, Vidic knows only victories will do from now on.

'Chelsea have just the league and the FA Cup to focus on, which helps them, but if we win all five games then we still have a good chance,' he said. 'I hope there will be more twists and turns and there will be more dropped points before the end.'

Can Roo kick it Crocked Wayne Rooney set for sensational return against Bayern Munich

Sir Alex Ferguson could spring the surprise of theseason by including Wayne Rooney in his plans for the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
The Manchester United manager said Rooney would be sidelined for 'two or three weeks' after suffering ankle ligament damage in last Tuesday's2-1 first leg defeat in Munich.
But Rooney has responded well to intensive treatment and, according to sources close to the England striker, is considered to be 'moving closer' to a return.
Close to comeback: Wayne Rooney
Ferguson will not put the rest of Rooney'sseason at risk and will wait until tomorrow before making a decision. If the 24-year-old cannot rejoin his colleagues in training then, he will not be included.
But Ferguson and Rooney are quietly hoping he will be fit to make a sensationalreturn at Old Trafford and increase United's chances of progressingto the semi-finals.
Quick healer: Rooney could return to action this week
Saturday's 2-1 home defeat byChelsea highlighted how much United miss their talismanic striker and with the Barclays PremierLeague title race no longerin their hands, Fergusonrealises their best chance ofadding to their Carling Cupglory this season is in Europe.
If United's medical staff areconfident Rooney can playwithout aggravating whatwas described as a 'minor' injury last week, Ferguson will recall him to the squad.
Decision time: Sir Alex Ferguson
Ferguson appeared to write off United's title hopes afterChelsea went top with theirvictory at Old Trafford.
ButArsenal manager ArseneWenger, whose side arethree points behind Chelsea,is refusing to accept Unitedare a beaten team.
He said:'I don't think Man United will give up. You can't say you give up if Chelsea haveto go to Liverpool and Tottenham. Anything can happen.
'You can have aplayer sent-off in the firstminute and you can lose thegame. If Man United want to give up, we have noproblem with it. But I don'tthink they will.'
Manchester United must conquer four key areas to beat the old European foe Bayern Munich.....and also pray for Wayne Rooney Jamie Redknapp: Carlo Ancelotti dared against Manchester United - and he won Manchester United 1 Chelsea 2: Ancelotti shows his class to rise from the depths.....now Ferguson must do the same

yang harus diingat, bermain dengan 5 gelandang di Jerman, mampu mengatasi permainan fisik barbar ala Jerman.
Waktu carrick ditarik dan maen dengan 2 striker, lini tengah muenchen jadi meraja.

Memang sulit, tapi pilihan 5 gelandang tepat, terutama semenjak Roon absen.
Tinggal sayap2 setan harus bisa lebih bergerak, tidak seperti game 1 yang mati kutu, tidak seperti lawan chelshit sebelom nani masuk...
