Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson is 'not the most patient guy' as he pushes to replace David de Gea as No 1 following Spaniard's mistakes against Everton... and he'll get a chance to impress in FA Cup tie with West Ham

* Dean Henderson is determined to stake a claim to be Manchester United's No 1
* The goalkeeper is set to start in the FA Cup fifth-round match with West Ham
* First choice David de Gea was scrutinised for his errors in the draw with Everton
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted Henderson is impatient to prove himself

Dean Henderson is champing at the bit to replace David de Gea as Manchester United’s No.1 as he prepares to take over in goal for Tuesday night’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at home to West Ham.

Henderson has played against Liverpool and Watford in the cup this season and was due to step in once again even before De Gea’s blunders in United’s 3-3 draw with Everton in the Premier League at the weekend.

However, the 23-year-old England keeper will sense his best opportunity yet to usurp De Gea since returning to United from two seasons on loan at Sheffield United after the Spaniard was criticised for failing to prevent Everton’s first and third goals.

Henderson has made no secret of his determination to be first-choice at Old Trafford, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that he is more impatient than ever to stake his claim after making 10 appearances so far this season.

‘He’s not the most patient guy,’ said the United boss, having warned De Gea that no-one’s place is safe.

‘He wants to play every game because he knows he will perform well, so long may it continue because he’s improved since he come here.

Dean Henderson is sensing his opportunity to replace David de Gea as Manchester United's No 1 goalkeeper. Solskjaer admitted Henderson is more impatient than ever to stake a claim for the No 1 spot

‘He’s played well when he’s got the chance. For me, he’s developed his game. I know he’s not played as many games as he would have done (on loan) last season.

‘You see his improvement in every game when he plays and in training. He’s working hard on a couple of aspects that we’ve spoken about, and I’ve been impressed with his attitude and work-rate.’

Solskjaer admitted that his players are deflated after blowing their chance to temporarily go joint top with Manchester City who stretched their lead in the title race to five points with a game in hand following a comprehensive win at Liverpool on Sunday.

‘They will have to be lifted,’ added Solskjaer. ‘But they’ve got the personality, attitude and character to lift themselves.

‘We’re not going to have time to dwell on it too much and show videos. There are details there that we have to improve, but there’s not going to be time enough on the training ground to work on it with the game already on Tuesday.’

United’s three semi-final defeats last season included losing to Chelsea in the FA Cup, and Solskjaer re-iterated the importance of winning his first trophy in charge at Old Trafford.

‘A trophy is always what you’re aiming for,’ he said. ‘You want to win every single competition – FA Cup, Europa League, every game you play in the Premier League.

‘That’s the ultimate challenge and a test for a team: to go all the way.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warned De Gea that no-one's place is safe after the Spaniard made two errors in the 3-3 draw with Everton . De Gea was at fault for Everton's first and third goals which saw United drop vital points

‘We’ve improved. We’ve had a plan in place and I think the team is getting better and better.

‘It was disappointing to lose the semi-final last season. You want to go all the way and lift a trophy.

It’s not the be all and end all. That’s the bread and butter in the Premier League. But it’s a measure of how good a team is.

‘To get to a final sometimes you’re lucky with the draw. But to win a final, that’s the next step for us in the development of this team.’

Default Re: Dean Henderson

Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund 'the front-runners for Dean Henderson if he leaves Manchester United this summer with goalkeeper increasingly frustrated at lack of first-team football'

* Dean Henderson has played second fiddle at Manchester United this season
* Henderson finds himself behind David de Gea as the club's No 1 goalkeeper
* Tottenham are yet to open contract talks with Hugo Lloris over a new deal
* Spurs' captain will have just one year left on his contract after this season
* Henderson is reportedly open to going abroad, with Borussia Dortmund a suitor

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is not short of suitors should he leave his boyhood club this summer, with both Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund among them.

Henderson has been forced to play second fiddle to David de Gea at Old Trafford this season, featuring just 12 times in all competitions compared to his team-mate's 28.

And according to Sky Sports, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are ready to pounce for the 'increasingly frustrated' 23-year-old at the end of the season if he seeks a fresh start elsewhere.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is a reported admirer of Henderson's talents, having seen him rise through the ranks at Old Trafford during his spell in charge between 2016 and 2018.

And earlier this month Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness revealed that Mourinho had told him he believed Henderson 'should have been in the (United) team a couple of years ago'.

At present, Hugo Lloris is Tottenham's No 1 goalkeeper but the club are yet to open talks over a contract extension with him. The club captain has just over a year left on his deal and hasn't had the best of seasons in north London.

As revealed by Sportsmail, Paris Saint-Germain are keen on Lloris and Spurs are aware France's World Cup winning captain may be interested in a return to his homeland and also a reunion with former manager Mauricio Pochettino who is now in charge at the Parc des Princes.

Burnley's Nick Pope is also on Tottenham's wish-list should Lloris go.

Dortmund could be another possible destination for Henderson with the England international open to playing abroad alongside the lure of regular Champions League football too.

Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are ready to swoop in on Dean Henderson this summer. Henderson is reportedly frustrated at being David de Gea's understudy at Manchester United. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows he's got a decision to make over his goalkeepers

Despite the interest, Henderson's current preference is to remain at United but only as their first-choice goalkeeper.

The Red Devils showed their intent towards him in August as he signed a five-year deal worth £120,000 per week.

However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows he has an issue on his hands with De Gea's £350,000-a-week contract still having another two years to run plus an additional 12-month option.

Such a huge outlay could warn off suitors but Solskjaer would be willing to send the 30-year-old out on loan next season.

Man United 'pay Carlisle £10,000 EVERY TIME Dean Henderson plays for them as part of the deal they struck when he was 14...' but League Two side received nothing in his seasons spent out on loan

* Dean Henderson joined Manchester United from Carlisle when he was 14
* It's reported that the League Two outfit earn £10,000 each time he plays
* They didn't earn anything however when Henderson was out on loan spells
* United's No 2 goalkeeper has made 13 appearances for the Red Devils

Carlisle will hope that Dean Henderson becomes Manchester United's No 1 goalkeeper, as they reportedly profit each time he plays.

The 23-year-old joined United from the Cumbrian outfit in 2011 when he was just 14-years-old.

Henderson is currently No 2 at Old Trafford to David de Gea and has made 13 appearances this season - mostly in cup competitions.

Carlisle United reportedly pocket £10,000 each time their former goalkeeper plays for United

The Sun have now reported that each time Henderson plays, the League Two outfit pick up £10,000 on the back of the deal they made with United when he was 14.

Until this season, the goalkeeper had not made a senior appearance for the club.

Henderson spent the last two campaigns at Sheffield United, after previous stints with Stockport, Grimsby and Shrewsbury.

Carlisle did not receive any funds for appearances he made while he was away on loan.

Henderson impressed during the Blades' promotion campaign in 2018-19, and then helping them to a top-10 finish in their first season in the Premier League.

As a reward, he jumped Sergio Romero in the pecking order at Old Trafford to become De Gea's deputy.

However, the goalkeeper is becoming increasingly frustrated at having to play second-fiddle to the veteran Spaniard.

Dean Henderson is hoping to get more game time at Manchester United in the near future. Henderson has played 13 times for United this season - mostly in cup competitions

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer in his search for regular football.

However his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said recently that it is becoming 'increasingly harder' to leave him out.

He said: 'It's about your performances and what you give to the team. It was a conscious decision to bring Dean back to have real competition in and Dean has made it harder and harder for me to leave him out because whenever he plays he does really well.

'It's not about who's got the most trophies, it is about what you give to the team here and now, if you are right-back, left-back, left wing, right wing.'

MARTIN KEOWN: Dean Henderson's clever throw helped beat Manchester City's press... Ole Gunnar's Solskjaer's side proved they're good enough to beat the best

* Dean Henderson played a vital role in creating Luke Shaw's goal at the Etihad
* Manchester City won the ball in final third more often than any other side
* Timing of Manchester United's goals played a big part in the win at their rivals
* Daniel James' pace allowed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to stretch Man City

Manchester United’s second goal demonstrated their fine decision-making.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson had the ball in his hands and Manchester City’s trap was set. If Henderson played it to anyone around the box, City’s players were ready to pounce and press.

No Premier League side have won possession in the final third more than Pep Guardiola’s men this season.

Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson (left) played a vital role in his side's second goal

Recognising that danger, Henderson cut out City’s press entirely by throwing the ball over the top of it and into Luke Shaw’s path.

He travelled at great speed from his own half towards the opposition box, played a one-two with Marcus Rashford, and made it 2-0.

This was a professional performance from United and the timing of both goals was so important. Their first, scored inside two minutes, filled the team with extra energy as they went back to creating a barrier between the hosts and their goal.

City, having not trailed in a league match since November, tried to respond and the visitors suddenly had more space to counter into.

Dan James deserves a special mention as someone who can stretch sides superbly.

United’s second goal then gave them the daylight they craved.

This proved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s players are good enough to beat the best. If they had been this effective against the Premier League’s lesser sides, maybe we would have had more of a title race on our hands as we enter the run-in.

Jamie Carragher claims it will be 'very difficult not to pick Dean Henderson for England' if he usurps David de Gea as Manchester United's No 1... as Rob Green hails his 'composure' during derby win over City

* Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson are vying for England No 1 spot
* Henderson impressed as he replaced David de Gea during Manchester derby
* Jamie Carragher believes Henderson can tie down the England spot in the future
* Carragher said it is 'difficult' for an England boss not to pick a player at a top club

Jamie Carragher believes it is very likely Dean Henderson will become England's No 1 if he keeps David de Gea out of the Manchester United side.

Heading into this summer's Euros, Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford is currently Gareth Southgate's preferred choice ahead of both Henderson and Burnley's Nick Pope.

But Henderson will be hoping to put himself firmly in contention for the starting spot as he looks to impress at United in place of De Gea, who is currently absent following the birth of his first child, Yanay, in Spain.

But while Carragher believes Pickford will remain in goal for England at the Euros, he does claim he would be surprised if Henderson doesn't become No 1 after the tournament, but only if he fends off competition from De Gea at Old Trafford.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher argued: 'You think if Henderson becomes the United goalkeeper, I always think it is very difficult for an England manager to not pick a player at a top club never mind a goalkeeper or another position.

'I think Nick Pope would find it difficult to become a regular for England because he plays for Burnley. And no disrespect to Sean Dyche and the club, but the way they play and certainly the way Southgate wants to play is completely different.

'Now if you're playing for Manchester United week in week out, still to be seen, playing maybe Champions League football, or the top end where the pressure is as high as possible, that gives him (Henderson) a great possibility. Maybe after this tournament, I think Pickford will keep his place for that.

Jamie Carragher says Henderson will become England No 1 if he keeps De Gea out at United. Henderson continues to face a fight with De Gea for the No 1 spot at Old Trafford. Rob Green hailed Henderson for his display in the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon

'But I think going forward next season, if Henderson is the Manchester United goalkeeper, I think it is very difficult not to pick him for England.'

Henderson impressed during the Manchester derby on Sunday, stepping in ever so comfortably for De Gea as United ended City's 21-match winning streak with a 2-0 victory.

And former England goalkeeper Rob Green praised Henderson, claiming he can have a big future.

'Henderson has the attributes, he has got things going for him,' Green said. 'And you saw him yesterday in the game, he didn't have a lot to do but he was there and made it look simple. He looked a composed figure.'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits Dean Henderson should have saved Simon Kjaer's injury-time equaliser for AC Milan but Manchester United boss backs his side to win the second leg at the San Siro next week

* Manchester United conceded a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with AC Milan
* Dean Henderson was unable to keep out Simon Kjaer's header from a corner
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted the goalkeeper could have saved the effort
* Henderson has been given a chance to impress in David de Gea's absence
* Solskjaer backed his side to make the Europa League quarter-finals next week

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that Dean Henderson could have done more to keep out AC Milan’s injury-time equaliser at Old Trafford.

It was particularly disappointing for Henderson, who failed to save Simon Kjaer’s header, because the England international has been given a chance to impress in the absence of David de Gea.

‘It’s a header from six yards, he can save it of course,’ said Solskajer. ‘I have seen him save them but it’s the structure we lose. We dropped too deep and we get blocked off and he (Kjaer) makes a good run and gets a good header on it. We should have attacked the ball with the men we had there.

‘We’re disappointed but then again that can happen. I’ve been part of a team that has scored in injury time in Europe myself from a set-play.

‘We’ve got to take that on the chin, travel down there and go for it.’

The United boss backed his team to go through to the quarter-finals at the San Siro next week, having beaten Real Sociedad 4-0 in Turin in the last round.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted Dean Henderson could have done more to prevent AC Milan's late equaliser at Old Trafford. Henderson could only palm the ball into the roof of the net as the Italians scored from a corner

‘Of course, we fancy our chances,’ he added. ‘We have been exciting away from home, especially against Sociedad. That was as template of how we want to play in games.’

Solskjaer also paid tribute to Amad Diallo after the teenager scored his first senior goal for United.

‘It was a great moment for the kid,’ he said. ‘The pass was incredible that more or less made the goal. The flick is probably the only thing he can do, but it was perfect timing and perfect weight on it.’

United suffered another injury setback with Anthony Martial set to join Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani on the sidelines for Sunday’s game at home to West Ham.

kembali gol menit2 akhir terulang lagi, sama kayak waktu melawan Everton

Default Re: Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson's time as Manchester United No 1 appears to finally have come - the significance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's decision to choose him over David de Gea can't be overstated

* Dean Henderson always backed himself to become Manchester United's No 1
* Now with his selection over David de Gea versus Brighton, the time has come
* At 24, Henderson is Man United's future, whereas 30-year-old De Gea is not

Soon on top. Dean Henderson has used the phrase in social media posts since making his professional debut for Grimsby on loan from Manchester United more than four years ago.

‘I’ve known I’ve been on a little journey and when I reach the top, I’ll let everyone know,’ he said in an interview last week.

Henderson has never been short of ambition or self-confidence. He always backed himself to become No 1 at United one day, it was just a matter of time.

Three weeks after his 24th birthday, Dean Henderson appears to be Manchester United's No 1. Henderson was picked over David de Gea to start United's Premier League win versus Brighton

Three weeks after his 24th birthday, it would appear as though that time has come.

Having given Henderson a run of six games while David de Gea had a break for the birth of his first child, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team selection for game No 7 was always going to be one of his most fascinating as United manager.

The significance of his decision to choose Henderson over de Gea cannot be underestimated.

‘I’ve got two No 1's, simple as,’ was Solskjaer’s curt response to questions before kick-off. That didn’t wash with Rio Ferdinand who is convinced his former team-mate will now look to leave Old Trafford after a decade at United.

‘I don’t think two No 1's works,’ said Ferdinand. ‘You need the second keeper to understand he’ll be the back-up. David de Gea is not that guy.

‘If Dean Henderson finishes the season as the No 1, de Gea will be doing all he can to get out of Manchester United.’

The situation has become an awkward one for Solskjaer ever since he brought the talented but impatient Henderson back from a loan spell at Sheffield United in October.

Sunday’s win over Brighton was his 20th appearance of a season in which he has also made his senior England debut.

He is the future for United and de Gea, now 30, is not. Even if the Spain international wanted to stay, it wouldn’t be realistic to have him regularly sat on the bench when he is the club’s top earner on £375,000-a-week.

The issue was always going to be when and how Solskjaer changed the guard, and de Gea’s paternity leave last month was a convenient moment to give Henderson an extended run.

Sportsmail revealed that de Gea would rather have returned sooner but was told the decision had been made. It was apparent then that his grip on the No 1 spot was starting to slip, and Henderson has seized his opportunity.

Henderson is the future for Manchester United, while De Gea, now 30, is not. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (R) said both Henderson and de Gea will play in the season's remainder

There was little he could do about Danny Welbeck’s opening goal for Brighton on Sunday night after initially making an excellent save from the former United striker, although there was a worrying moment when he dropped the ball at a corner in the first half that could have proved costly.

It won’t affect the bigger picture. Solskjaer says both keepers will feature over the remainder of the season, and De Gea could play in Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final against Granada.

But it’s clear now more than ever which way the wind is blowing.
