Preview : Feyenoord vs Manchester United


Set the scene for me…
Thursday evening marks the start of the Reds' Europa League Group A campaign with an excursion to Rotterdam to take on Feyenoord. It also begins a run of three away matches in three different competitions, a spell that should offer a number of United players their first slice of competitive action this season. Jose Mourinho will be looking for a reaction from his squad following Saturday’s derby defeat to Manchester City and the fresh faces he brings into the team will be doing all they can to impress him.

Who will be in United's team on Thursday?
Marcus Rashford is set for his first start of the season, and Ander Herrera could join him, after the pair both produced strong substitute performances on Saturday. Mourinho has previously indicated that players with limite involvement in United’s opening Premier League exchanges will be given a more significant part in the European matches.
The boss has since strengthened that notion by saying the men who disappointed him in the derby will not be
selected against Feyenoord.

When did we last face them?
Having only met them twice before, United possess a perfect record against Feyenoord, winning both the home and away fixtures during the 1997/98 Champions League group stage. The last trip to De Kuip evokes positive memories for legendary goalscorer Andy Cole, whose hat-trick was the difference between the two sides as the Reds ran out 3-1 winners.

Haven’t I seen their manager before?
Yes, you may well have done. Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the man in charge of
Feyenoord and the Dutchman was on the
playing staff at Arsenal between 2001 and
2004, after moving from Rangers. Although
he spent a large chunk of his time in North
London on the treatment table, van Bronckhorst still made 64 appearances for
the Gunners, before leaving for Barcelona
and eventually returning to Feyenoord,
where he had started his career. Following
his retirement in 2010, he joined the
coaching team at Feyenoord, where he
was assistant manager until stepping up to take charge of the squad last season. As well as a strong CV of club football, he is also rich in international pedigree, playing over 100 times for the Netherlands and captaining them in the 2010 World Cup final.

Who are their key men?
Feyenoord’s squad is full of experience and contains a number of former Premier League players. Renowned as a clinical finisher from his time at Liverpool, Feyenoord captain Dirk Kuyt scored 23 times last season in all competitions, with four of those goals helping his side to lift the Dutch Cup.

Brad Jones, joined the Dutch side in the
summer and has since been the club’s first choice between the sticks. Kuyt's fellow striker Eljero Elia, who had a loan spell at Southampton in 2015, has started the new season brightly, having scored three times in his two appearances so far.

Anything else I should know?
Feyenoord’s home ground De Kuip, which translates as 'The Tub’, was the stage for United’s famous European Cup-Winners' Cup triumph over Barcelona in 1991.

MOURINHO TAKES 20 PLAYERS TO ROTTERDAM

Jose Mourinho has named a 20-man squad to travel to Rotterdam for Manchester United's opening Europa League match away to Feyenoord.

The players on Wednesday afternoon's
flight to the Netherlands are as follows:
De Gea, Romero, Johnstone; Darmian,
Bailly, Blind, Fosu-Mensah, Rojo, Smalling;
Carrick, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Memphis,
Pogba, Schneiderlin, Young; Ibrahimovic,
Martial, Rashford.

The Reds kick off the Europa League
campaign on Thursday evening at De Kuip
in only the third-ever meeting between the
two clubs. United won the previous two -
home and away in the Champions League
group stages in 1997/98 - but face a
Feyenoord side in excellent form following
five wins from their opening five league
matches.

The latest encounter promises to be an
absorbing affair and Mourinho is expected
to shuffle his pack after saying recently
how he plans to make use of his full squad during a busy September.

Kenapa nggak Rooney aja yang cedera ya dan Mikhi sehat. Mungkin bisa lebih bermanfaat untuk United.
