Re: [EL] Fenerbahçe S.K. vs Manchester United F.C.
Talking points: Fenerbahce v United
Manchester United return to action on Thursday with an overseas trip to face Fenerbahçe in the Europa League. Here are six talking points to dissect and discuss ahead of the match in Turkey 1: A MASSIVE INCENTIVE United are second in Group A and a victory at Sukru Saracoglu would create a five-point gap over third-placed Fenerbahçe, leaving the Reds needing just a draw from the two remaining matches against Feyenoord and Zorya Luhansk to secure qualification. Jose Mourinho will be determined to progress as early as possible, too, with important Premier League matches against Arsenal, West Ham, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur sandwiched around those couple of outstanding group games. 2: NO ROOM FOR PROFLIGACY It was well-documented that United registered 37 goal attempts during Saturdays 0-0 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford, which was the highest total since Opta's records began in the 2003/04 season. Assistant manager Rui Faria believes the goals will come and the onus is now on the players to start converting chances again, beginning with this Europa League tie. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the club's top scorer this season with six, but the Swede has not hit the back of the net since the 1-0 win over Zorya on 29 September. He will be determined to end that drought in Istanbul if selected by the boss. 3: BASTIAN WILL NOT RETURN Bastian Schweinsteiger was pictured training with the first team on Monday morning, but he will definitely not feature in the match against Fenerbahçe due to his omission from the clubs Europa League squad that was submitted earlier this season. The manager may discuss the German midfielder during his pre-match press conference, which you can follow in ManUtd.com's live blog from 16:00 GMT on Wednesday. 4: ROBIN AND FENERBAHCE IN FORM Although United dismantled Fenerbahce with relative ease at home, registering a comfortable 4-1 win beneath the Old Trafford floodlights, Thursdays match should be a more difficult task. The Turkish club have been boosted by consecutive league wins over Konyaspor and Karabukspor since we last met, with Robin van Persie scoring twice as the latter opponents were beaten 5-0 at the weekend. The ex-Reds striker notched in the second half of the first meeting and will hope to show his quality again in this return fixture. 5: EXPECT A HOSTILE ATMOSPHERE Matches in Turkey are historically fiery occasions amid the unique passion of the local supporters and United are braced for a testing night in Istanbul. Luke Shaw has not played there before but the young left-back has an idea of what to expect. We know it will be hard, he told ManUtd.com this week. We beat them 4-1 so they will look for revenge, especially in front of a hostile crowd. We need to focus on what we need to do and, if we can do that, I am sure we will get maximum points. 6: SAFETY ADVICE FOR FANS The British government has issued advice for the 1,227 United supporters who are set to attend the match. You can read the guidance in the Worldwide > Turkey section of

Manchester United fans to be given armed escort to Fenerbahce clash amid security concerns in Istanbul
* Fenerbahce host Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday * Police will accompany travelling fans from Taksim Square to the stadium * Supporters have been advised not to take public transport on the day * Last month a bomb exploded at an Istanbul police station An armed police escort will accompany Manchester United supporters travelling to Fenerbahce's stadium on Thursday night, such is the concern surrounding security in Istanbul. United have written to all supporters making the trip to Turkey for this week's Europa League clash against Dick Advocaat's side, warning them of potential safety problems. The club abandoned their normal practice of tickets being distributed close to the away ground - posting them out instead - and firmly suggested their band of fans should stick together in Taksim Square before kick-off. Manchester United's travelling fans will be given an armed escort in Istanbul on Thursday United are due to take on Fenerbahce in the Sukru Saracoglu stadium in the Europa League That is 10 miles away from Fenerbahce's home and buses are being laid on with police escorts from 6pm. The journey - which will pass over the Bosphorus river - is expected to take close to an hour. Buses will travel back to the city's main square after the fixture. Fans have also been told not to take public transport. Only last month a bomb exploded at an Istanbul police station, injuring 10 people, and Turkey was recently the scene of an attempted military coup. English football supporters have a history of enduring trouble when visiting the city. Eric Cantona and Bryan Robson were both struck when Sir Alex Ferguson's United played Galatasaray in 1993. Two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death before a UEFA Cup semi-final clash in 2000. United ticket holders will enter the Sukru Saracoglu stadium in caged tunnels on Thursday as security chiefs attempt to keep the two sets of supporters away from each other. Juan Mata is wary of the threat Turkey poses and said: 'We know it is a difficult place to go, we know when you play in Turkey it is a difficult atmosphere, and we will have to deal with that. 'It will be very important to win there and if we do that then we will get very, very close to the qualification.' Code:

Re: [EL] Fenerbahçe S.K. vs Manchester United F.C.
MOURINHO NAMES 21-MAN SQUAD FOR TURKEY Jose Mourinho is taking 21 players with him to Istanbul for Manchester United's Europa League meeting with Fenerbahce on Thursday. Phil Jones, who has yet to make an appearance this season, is included after injury but fellow defender Chris Smalling has not made the trip. Tim Fosu-Mensah, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial have also been named in the squad but Michael Carrick, Memphis Depay and Antonio Valencia will remain in Manchester. Bastian Schweinsteiger, who trained with the players this week, has not travelled as he is ineligible for the group stages of the Europa League. The Reds are currently level on points with first-placed Feyenoord on six points. Both sides have won two and lost one, but the Dutch side are top of Group A by virtue of the head-to-head record following Feyenoord's 1-0 win over the Reds in September. Fenerbahce, who the Reds overcame 4-1 at Old Trafford two weeks ago, lie third on four points, with Zorya Luhansk bottom of the group on just one point. United squad: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone; Blind, Jones, Darmian, Fosu-Mensah, Rojo, Shaw; Fellaini, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Lingard, Mata, Pogba, Schneiderlin, Young; Ibrahimovic, Martial, Rashford, Rooney. ManUtd.com will be travelling with the team to Istanbul and will bring you updates in our dedicated live blog, including news from Mourinho's press conference at 16:00 GMT on Wednesday. http://www.manutd.com/ |

Re: [EL] Fenerbahçe S.K. vs Manchester United F.C.
Mari kita ulangi kembali kesuksesan King Eric cs 20 tahun lalu
FENERBAHCE 0 UNITED 2 (OCTOBER 1996) Champions League | 16 October 1996 | Fenerbahce Stadium | Scorers: Beckham 55, Cantona 60 Manchester United return to Turkey this week for the first time in almost four years to face Fenerbahce in the Europa League. The sixth competitive meeting between the sides comes 20 years after the first, when United secured a first-ever victory on Turkish soil. In October 1996, a young David Beckham and club captain Eric Cantona scored second-half goals to give Alex Ferguson's side a 2-0 win in the Champions League group stages. The Reds had been to Istanbul twice before in the same competition to face Fenerbahce's rivals, Galatasaray, but drew both games 0-0. United, the champions of England going into the 1996/97 Champions League campaign, had been handed a tough group alongside Turkish champions Fenerbahce, Austria's leading side Rapid Vienna and Italian heavyweights Juventus. This season would see the likes of Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Beckham – who would be voted PFA Young Player of the Year – establish themselves in the first team as United won the league again (an 11th top-flight title overall) but lost in the semi-finals of the Champions League to the eventual winners, Borussia Dortmund. United team v Fenerbahce, October 1996: Schmeichel, G.Neville, Pallister, May, Irwin, Beckham, Johnsen, Butt, Cruyff (Poborksy 73), Cantona, Solskjaer. http://www.manutd.com/ |
