Man United forward Alexis Sanchez picks up another injury as Chile lose to Argentina at the Copa America

* Sanchez pulled up with apparent hamstring injury during third place play-off
* Manchester United forward limped off after just 17 minutes of Chile's match
* Any injury setback would disrupt his pre-season preparations with United
* Sanchez was set to miss most of pre-season because of the Copa America
* Chile went on to lose a bad-tempered match with Argentina 2-1 on Saturday

Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez limped off with an apparent hamstring injury during Chile's Copa America defeat to Argentina on Saturday night.

Sanchez pulled up while chasing a long ball 17 minutes into the third-place play-off match, which Chile went on to lose 2-1.

It could delay the 30-year-old's return to United for pre-season and represents another injury setback for a player who was sidelines for big chunks of last season.

Alexis Sanchez limped out of Chile's Copa America defeat to Argentina on Saturday night. The Manchester United forward pulled up in the 17th minute with an apparent hamstring issue. Sanchez suffered a number of injury setbacks last season and missed 20 Man United matches. The Chilean suffered hamstring, thigh, knee and ankle problems during a disrupted campaign

Sanchez, who scored twice for Chile during the Copa America, will not be a part of the first leg of United's pre-season tour in Australia.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his squad will fly from Manchester to Perth on Sunday ahead of two matches in the city against Perth Glory and Leeds United.

Sanchez was set to be given time off after the Copa America and not feature on United's pre-season tour, which continues to Singapore and Shanghai after Australia.

United kick-off their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Chelsea on August 11.

Sanchez, who scored just two goals in 27 appearances for United last season, suffered a number of injuries in 2018-19 and missed 20 matches.

A hamstring injury saw him miss the whole of December, he missed a fortnight with a thigh problem in January and then over five weeks with a knee injury in March and April before an ankle issue curtailed his season in May.

Chile lost a fiery match 2-1 despite Argentina captain Lionel Messi being sent off.

Eric Bailly arrives home from United's tour in a WHEELCHAIR as boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits 'it doesn't look great'... so will Ed Woodward now have to FINALLY secure £80m Harry Maguire?

* Manchester United have arrived back in the UK following their pre-season tour
* Although they enjoyed a flawless four-game tour on the pitch, it came at a price
* In the final game of their schedule, against Tottenham, Eric Bailly was injured
* The centre back left the field, visibly upset, on a stretcher and was put in a brace
* On Friday morning, the Ivorian was pictured in a wheelchair at the airport
* It could force United to make a move for long-term transfer target Harry Maguire

Eric Bailly appeared to confirm Manchester United fans' worst fears as he was pictured in a wheelchair at Manchester Airport on Friday morning following his injury against Tottenham.

The centre back was visibly upset in Shanghai on Thursday when he was carried off the field on a stretcher in United's 2-1 win over Spurs – he later left the stadium on crutches and with a knee brace.

It could also alter United's transfer plans and push them to move for Harry Maguire — although a move for the Leicester man seems to have hit an impasse.

Eric Bailly was wheeled through Manchester airport on a wheelchair following his injury. The Ivorian looked visibly dejected as his injury woes at Old Trafford continue. On Thursday, during the game against Tottenham, Bailly was carried off on a stretcher

Upon Bailly's arrival in the UK, the Ivorian was pictured looking extremely disheartened as he was wheeled through the airport as the squad alighted their flight at Manchester.

It is yet another setback for the defender, who since moving to Old Trafford in 2016 has missed 34 games through three separate injuries.

He is due to undergo scans on his left knee following his arrival back in Manchester and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope for good news, given their struggles in signing Maguire.

After the game against Tottenham, Solskjaer admitted his concern over the extent of the player's injury.

'It seems that he's twisted his knee so we just have to do some scans and checks on him,' Solskjaer told MUTV after the game.

'At first sight, it doesn't look great but let's see how it goes.'

United's pre-season tour saw Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Axel Tuanzebe all fill centre-back berths, however it is understood the club are still heavily pursuing Maguire.

With fewer than two weeks left of the transfer window, Solskjaer, who was pictured arriving with the rest of his squad at Manchester Airport on Friday morning, and the club's top brass are still actively looking to force through more signings.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward stayed in Manchester while the club were touring Australia and China in a bid to thrash out deals over potential ins and outs at Old Trafford.

By and large, United enjoyed a successful pre-season tour of Australasia, winning all four of their games and conceding only one goal in the process.

While the futures of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku still remain up in the air, Solskjaer will be encouraged by how his side have performed and it will have given him much cause for optimism ahead of the new season.

After touching back down in the UK, the United boss will be keen to ensure his squad are ready to tackle the start of the new Premier League season following a disappointing campaign last term.

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly out for 'four to five months' following knee operation

* Manchester United have been dealt an injury blow with defender Eric Bailly
* The centre-back is facing around four to five months on the sidelines
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the news following the player's operation
* United are in the market for a defender and want Leicester City's Harry Maguire

Eric Bailly has been ruled out for up to five months after undergoing surgery on his left knee on Tuesday.

Bailly suffered cartilage damage in Manchester United’s win over Tottenham in Shanghai last week, and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the news in Oslo last night.

‘He’s had an operation and will miss the best part of four or five months,’ said Solskjaer. ‘Hopefully we’ll get him back around Christmas.

Manchester United's Eric Bailly is set to be out of action for the next four to five months

‘He had the operation this morning and the surgeon is positive that it was all repaired and he’ll be fine.’

The Ivory Coast defender missed the end of last season and the Africa Cup of Nations after having an operation for cartilage damage in his right knee.

Bailly’s injury will put further pressure on United to strike a deal with Leicester over England centre-back Harry Maguire.

SOLSKJAER'S INJURY UPDATE ON SHAW AND MARTIAL

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an injury update on Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial after both players picked up injuries against Crystal Palace.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 by the Eagles after a dramatic finale at Old Trafford, where Jordan Ayew opened the scoring in the first half. Marcus Rashford hit a post from the penalty spot when trying to level in the second half, before Daniel James eventually restored parity late on. Frustratingly, just moments later, Patrick van Aanholt netted an injury-time winner for the visitors.

Shaw had contributed a lot to United’s attacking efforts before he was forced off in the aftermath of Ayew’s goal, when unable to shake off a problem he sustained while making a sustained sprint.

The injury was a blow for Shaw, who did not misplace a single one of his 14 passes during his time on the pitch - 12 of which came in the opposition half, and two were considered ‘key passes’ by Opta.

“We’ll do the scans tomorrow but he felt something in his hamstring,” said Solskjaer in his press conference. “Hopefully, it won’t be too bad and I hope he is going to be back for Southampton.”

Ashley Young came on in Shaw’s place at Old Trafford to make his first competitive appearance of the season. Fellow defenders Eric Bailly and Tim Fosu-Mensah are already on the sidelines, but Shaw will hope to be available for the trip to his former club Southampton next weekend.

Solskjaer also suggested in our interview that Anthony Martial’s problem might not be serious, after the France international was forced to limp his way through the final minutes of the match.

Our no.9 was visibly in pain while standing out wide on the right-hand side and could barely take part in the team’s play, as the Reds attempted to score a second equaliser at Old Trafford.

When asked to provide an update on Shaw and Martial, Ole told us: “We'll have to wait and see. Hopefully they won't be too bad and maybe we can have them training during the week.”

Manchester United sweating over Luke Shaw with fears left back could face five weeks out due to hamstring injury

* Luke Shaw suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's loss to Crystal Palace
* The Manchester United left back pulled up during the first half on Saturday
* He is set to miss games against Southampton, Leicester, West Ham and Arsenal

Manchester United fear Luke Shaw could be out for five weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old pulled up during the first half of Saturday's defeat to Crystal Palace and was replaced by Ashley Young.

Scans have since confirmed he is facing at least a month on the sidelines ruling him out of Premier League games against former club Southampton, Leicester City, West Ham and Arsenal.

The news comes as a blow to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he looks to get his side back on track at Southampton this weekend following an indifferent start to the season.

Solskjaer is more hopeful over Anthony Martial's thigh injury however, and the Frenchman's recovery will not have an influence over whether Alexis Sanchez stays or departs before September 2.

The Chilean's representatives were in London on Sunday as they try to finalise a season-long loan to Inter Milan, while United have also fielded further enquiries for full-back Matteo Darmian who is keen to return to Italy.

'Alexis is a quality player. We don't have loads of options,' Solskjaer said. 'If there is an offer that's good enough for the club and him maybe he will go, but if not then he's still our player and he's a quality player.'

Manchester United could be without first-choice left back Luke Shaw for five weeks. Shaw suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of United's 2-1 home defeat by Palace

Meanwhile, out-of-favour Fred is backing himself to fix Manchester United's midfield problem.

Last summer's £52million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk has barely made an impact at Old Trafford and is yet to feature in a squad this season.

Fred only has seven Premier League starts during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign but believes he can force his way into the manager's plans.

United struggled in midfield during Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace and the Brazil international wants a chance to prove his worth.

The 26-year-old is fit and trained at Carrington on Sunday, with club sources insisting he will remain at the club amid links with Serie A side Fiorentina.

Fred, once trailed by champions Manchester City, is also determined to stay and make his time in England work after positive talks regarding his future last week.

Solskjaer afforded him leave during pre-season to get married before he re-joined the squad in Singapore, playing in the club's final four friendlies.

Fred has been on the periphery since, however - even though Solskjaer's options in midfield are limited.

Scott McTominay has started all three games so far, with Paul Pogba stationed in a deeper role. Nemanja Matic has been on the bench, with Andreas Pereira preferred further forward. Solskjaer claimed earlier this month that Fred is 'going to have a big season'.

Meski demikian Shaw benar-benar menunjukkan tekad yang kuat untuk pulih jika cedera seperti saat kakinya patah beberapa musim lalu. Semoga saja bisa lebih cepat pulih dari perkiraan tim medis yaa

Manchester United confirm Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw will miss Southampton clash through injury

* Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw picked up knocks in the defeat by Crystal Palace
* Martial has a thigh injury while Shaw is suffering with a hamstring problem
* Man United face Southampton at St Mary's in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off

Manchester United have confirmed they will be without injured duo Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw for their upcoming trip to Southampton.

Both players picked up knocks during the Red Devil's recent home defeat by Crystal Palace, and are set for a spell on the sidelines.

Defender Shaw is struggling with a hamstring issue, while striker Martial has a thigh injury, leaving United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a selection headache.

Anthony Martial will be unavailable for Manchester United's upcoming trip to Southampton

Luke Shaw was replaced by Ashley Young in the first half of United's defeat to Crystal Palace

Martial has made a flying start to the new season, scoring twice in three Premier League games, having started this season as the club's first choice centre forward.

But his absence could mean a first start for youngster Mason Greenwood, who has made three substitute appearances so far this season.

The 17-year-old impressed during United's pre-season tour and scored several goals on the back of a fine campaign for the club's reserve side.

Solskjaer recently claimed Greenwood is a better natural finisher than Martial and Marcus Rashford, despite being several years younger than the pair.

Ashley Young replaced the injured Shaw after 34 minutes of the defeat to Palace and is likely to deputise in his absence.

Defeat by Palace last weekend sees United sat in fifth place in the Premier League table with four points from a possible nine after the opening three games.

Paul Pogba PULLS OUT of France squad as Man United send him for a scan on his injured ankle amid fears he could miss their return to Premier League action

* Paul Pogba suffered ankle injury in 1-1 draw with Southampton at the weekend
* He played full 90 minutes but was seen limping away from St Mary's
* Manchester United midfielder was due to link up with France squad this week
* He has stayed in Manchester to undergo scan and they await prognosis

Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of Paul Pogba after he injured his ankle against Southampton in Saturday's 1-1 draw.

The Frenchman was seen limping away from St Mary's and is to undergo a scan to investigate the extent of the damage.

The World Cup winner was scheduled to link up with Didier Deschamps' squad but withdrew on Monday, with Arsenal's Matteo Guendouzi earning his first call-up in taking his place.

Paul Pogba and Manchester United will anxiously await news on his ankle injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be concerned that the damage could rule the midfielder out. ogba may miss international duty with France over the course of the next two weeks

The severity of the problem is not yet known but as it stands, Pogba is a doubt for United's return to Premier League action against Leicester in 12 days.

When questioned about Pogba, the France boss said: 'For Paul I don't know, we are waiting for the results, I will keep you updated.'

Les Bleus are due to play Albania and the Andorra during the international break.

And Pogba's injury will be of concern to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, given his importance to a youthful and inexperienced United side.

The Old Trafford club have started the season slowly with just five points from their first four games and will want Pogba fully fit and firing.

He played the full 90 minutes on the south coast but was filmed limping badly afterwards.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka withdraws from England squad with back injury... but Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate STILL won't call up Kyle Walker

* Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is out of the England squad
* The youngster sustained a back injury and is now unavailable for selection
* England are set to play Bulgaria and Kosovo at home in Euro 2020 qualifiers
* No replacement will be called up, meaning Kyle Walker will not join the squad

Aaron Wan-Bissaka's hopes of winning his first senior England cap have been ruined by injury — but his withdrawal from the squad has not reopened the door for Kyle Walker.

The Manchester United right back was in line to feature in the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers Bulgaria and Kosovo having made a bright start to his career at Old Trafford.

Wan-Bissaka was vying with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to start at Wembley against Bulgaria on Saturday. Gareth Southgate has been following his progress for the past year and was eager to elevate him from the Under 21 squad as soon as possible.

Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka forced to leave England training with injury. The ex-Palace defender trained with his team-mates on Tuesday but is carrying a knock. There are no plans to call up a replacement, meaning Kyle Walker will not join the squad

After training at St George’s Park on Tuesday, though, Wan-Bissaka was sent back to Old Trafford for treatment with a back problem that was not going to clear ahead of next Tuesday’s Kosovo fixture at Southampton. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit for United’s game against Leicester on September 14.

Right-back is an area in which Southgate is blessed, though, and the presence of Alexander-Arnold — along with Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier — means that Southgate did not give any thought to recalling Walker.

The Manchester City star, who has started the season with a flourish, has been a mainstay in that position but his performance in the Nations League semi-final defeat to the Netherlands in Guimares has raised questions about his position in the squad going forward.

England will step up their preparations for the Saturday’s fixture over the next few days as Southgate works on his starting line-up. Wednesday will be the first time he can have all those who are fit on the training pitch.

Southgate has selected an ambitious young squad for this double-header and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said: ‘It just shows how much talent is coming through the system. Everyone has been through the youth ranks with England and it shows that there is a pathway for us to get to senior level.

‘I went all the way through the pathway and many others did too, so it is incredible for the set-up that you have that. It’s all about playing for your clubs and doing well for your clubs, though, which we seem to be doing.

‘The quality is throughout the team and we all know what we want to achieve as a team. We all thrive to be better on the pitch and as a squad it is always evolving. We have new lads in this week and everyone is fighting with the competition.’
