United's experienced line-up clinched a 3-1 victory over fellow table-toppers Aston Villa, who head the Southern section of the Reserves League, in an entertaining affair at Moss Lane.

The Reds fielded a strong side due to the blank week at first-team level with Tom Cleverley, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Fabio all starting. Yet it was two of the regulars who ensured the hosts enjoyed a two-goal lead inside 11 minutes.

Fabio recovered from a dreadful early tackle from Samir Carruthers to pick up a Matty James pass on the left and cross for Will Keane to divert a deft header past Benjamin Siegrist to end a run of six games without a goal.

A matter of 70 seconds later, James passed to the opposite flank where Ritchie De Laet centred and Jesse Lingard exploded a spectacular volley into the net to highlight the Reds' superiority.

Paul Pogba was unable to convert another De Laet cross then lashed a volley over the top while Daniel Johnson fired a rare attempt too high at the other end. Fabio was really embracing playing at this level and bent an outstanding effort against the outside of a post with Lingard further off target with a similar attempt soon afterwards.

United were worth more than the two-goal lead at the interval with Siegrist pulling off a smart save to thwart Pogba, but Villa started the second period brightly and pulled a goal back when Johnson profited from the referee playing the advantage to blast a dipping shot of real quality beyond Sam Johnstone.

It only really served to sting Warren Joyce's side into action again with Swiss keeper Siegrist doing well to keep out Will Keane and Pogba before Lingard was ever so unlucky to see a curling drive thud back off the woodwork.

The one-way traffic continued with Davide Petrucci the latest player to work Siegrist and Jones outjumped Smalling to head a Cleverley corner wide. From a similar set-piece from the right, Smalling this time got there first to spear his header home at the near post.

Smalling tried his luck from distance in a bid to add to his tally but was off target and he collected a yellow card shortly afterwards for a foul on Carruthers. Although Cleverley shot straight at Siegrist after a one-two, Villa missed a clear chance to reduce the arrears again when Michael Drennan made a hash of a headed opportunity.

Villa battled valiantly, although the match started to become a little fractious, and substitute Michael Keane saw an effort scrambled off the line following another Cleverley corner. The final chance fell to the visitors but Johnson skied his shot to ensure United won pretty comfortably to extend the lead over Sunderland at the top of the table to five points.

United got the Dallas Cup off to a great start with a 2-0 success against home favourites FC Dallas.

Will and Michael Keane provided the goals but it could be a tough tournament for the Reds in the conditions after only taking a small squad to Texas.

Will Keane showed his finishing prowess after 10 minutes to cap an imposing opening spell by Warren Joyce's side by calmly firing past keeper Richard Sanchez. Ryan Tunnicliffe, who was later booked, should have added a second from a neat free-kick, and Will Keane also had a couple of decent efforts. However, it was his twin Michael Keane who rose highest to head home a Luke Giverin corner at the far post early in the second half.

Sam Johnstone was impressive in keeping a clean sheet but was fortunate to see Danny Garcia spurn a glorious chance by clipping into the side-netting with the goal at his mercy after rounding the keeper. Larnell Cole made his return from injury and recent signing from Manchester City, Frederic Veseli, also started.

Will Keane, the only striker in the party, referred to the need for the players to do "cool-downs" afterwards and the next game will take place at 2pm local time against Santa Clara Sporting, late replacements for CS Cartagines, who experienced travel problems.

Manchester United are on course to reach the Dallas Cup semi-finals on Good Friday after winning a second group game in the space of two days.

The Reds beat Santa Clara Sporting Club 5-2 on Monday afternoon local time, with goals from Jesse Lingard (2), Larnell Cole, Will Keane and Tom Thorpe.

Santa Clara were late additions to the 12-team tournament, after original entrants CS Cartagines from Costa Rica were unable to participate, and the Californians quickly made an impact by taking the lead through Alfredo Moran Perez after five minutes. United's response was also swift however, with Larnell Cole levelling in the 8th minute.

The American side went back in front on the half-hour mark, this time through Daniel Moran Perez, only for Keane to notch the Reds' second equaliser shortly before the interval.

Lingard's first goal in the 51st minute, created by Keane, put United in front for the first time in the match but Warren Joyce's side had to wait until the closing stages of the game to seal the victory with a quick-fire double. Lingard and then Tom Thorpe struck in the 80th and 81st minutes respectively.

The third and final game in Bracket (Group) A for Warren Joyce's side is against the Mexican side Tigres at 20:30 local time (six hours behind the UK) on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile in Bracket C, the other English representatives Everton have won one and lost one game so far.

Larnell Cole's solitary strike was enough to book Manchester United's place in the Dallas Cup semi-finals as Tigres were unable to recover from the first-half winner.

Cole, who has been missing domestically of late due to injury, blasted home an excellent volley with half an hour gone following a cross by Luke Giverin from the left. After a cautious opening, Warren Joyce's team exploded into life with a slick move of real quality with Will Keane and Jesse Lingard heavily involved. Giverin racked up another assist when his deep cross invited Cole to show off his wonderful technique with an exquisite first-time finish.

Will Keane, who shrugged off a knock, came close to doubling the lead on a number of occasions and was unlucky not to increase his run of scoring in every game in the tournament. Indeed, one effort in the final seconds looked destined to find the net, only to curl off target.

Mexican outfit Tigres were last year's finalists and proved predictably tough rivals but the Reds' passing game ensured a degree of control over the proceedings and Sam Johnstone was able to keep a second clean sheet in the competition.

Everton, the Reserves' last opponents in the league before the flight out to the States, now stand in the way of a place in the final. The last-four clash with the Toffees takes place on Good Friday and Ross Barkley is likely to be a threat after earning some rave reviews for his work in Texas.

FRISCO, Texas -- When the final whistle blew, Thiago Primão looked like he had just won the World Cup. The Coritiba FC captain was dancing, signing autographs for kids and singing to Brazilian fans in the crowd.

The defender who's not even old enough to enjoy a champagne celebration went wild after he and his team downed the U19 team of the world's most famous football club, Manchester United.

"It's a really good experience for us. We've been working together for [many years]," Primão said through an interpreter. "It's a great accomplishment to win against Manchester United, one of the greatest teams in the world."

Coritiba survived a shorthanded comeback attempt to win the Gordon Jago Super Group Dallas Cup championship 2-1 over United.

The Brazilians came out very aggressive against the Red Devils. It paid off in the ninth minute when João Amaral's cross landed in front of Alex Santos, who fired a strike into the bottom-left corner to take an early lead.

They almost added another goal in the 24th minute when Willian Rodrigues put one in the back of the net off a rebound, but he was offside.

Coritiba continued their attack after halftime, but United was able to keep the Brazilians from scoring until the 64th minute when Michele Fornaiser was shown a red card for getting his second yellow of the match after a tackle.

Two minutes later, a give-and-go with Alex Santos gave José Vivian a one-on-one from the left side of the box with United keeper Samuel Johnstone, and he was able to bury the ball on the bottom-right corner of the goal to go up 2-0.

In the 73rd minute, United's Ryan Tunnicliffe was also shown a red after an argument with a referee.

Despite being down two players and two goals, United wasn't leaving without a fight. Michael Keane scored on a header from a Jesse Lingard corner kick in the 75th minute to make it a 2-1 game and give the Red Devils hope.

"We knew how good Manchester United is," Primão said. "We tried to stay calm and control the game, but we made that one mistake and they scored. We got a little nervous, but we managed to control it."

In the 79th minute, United nearly equalized, but couldn't score on a free kick and a corner kick.

In the 82nd minute, Samuel Johnstone saved a a wide open shot from Willian Henrique, but it turned out not to matter.

United had a few other opportunities, but the tired Reds couldn't overcome the faster Coritiba.

Brazilian sides are now 6-0 in the Dallas Cup Super Group final in the last 10 years.

Brave United were just unable to come back to level terms against Coritiba in the Dallas Cup final, despite being down to nine men.

Michele Fornasier and Ryan Tunnicliffe were both sent off in the second half in a hotly-contested encounter yet Michael Keane still found the net and ensured a nervous finale for the Brazilians.

Coritiba went ahead early on when Alex Santos converted a cross by Joao Amaral and the Reds' task was made more difficult when Fornasier received a second yellow card on 64 minutes. The South Americans took full advantage with Jose Vivian smashing past Sam Johnstone to double their lead.

Tunnicliffe, who had picked up a couple of bookings earlier in the tournament, was shown a straight red card for dissent and, with 17 minutes remaining, United's bid for success looked to be imploding. But Michael Keane showed what a threat he is at set-pieces by nodding home a Luke Giverin corner to reduce the deficit.

Johnstone kept his team in the match by denying William Henrique and there were late chances at the other end, with Larnell Cole going closest, but Warren Joyce's side had to settle for runners-up.

United came from three goals down to slam six goals past Newcastle and clinch the Barclays Premier Reserve League North title in style. Will Keane led the way by netting four times to take his domestic tally for the season to 16 in 23 games with Davide Petrucci and makeshift forward Ritchie De Laet also getting in on the act in the second half.

The Reds looked determined to make light work of the task from the start with Will Keane forcing Jak Alnwick into a flying save with an ambitious drive and Jesse Lingard lobbing too close to the keeper after being put in the clear by Marnick Vermijl's excellent pass.

But the Magpies fired a warning when a Brad Inman cross went dangerously across goal and the Australian grabbed the opener with a simple tap-in from a Phil Airey cross despite initially looking offside. Lingard could not get any power into his shot after a barnstorming run down the left by De Laet and Larnell Cole fired wide of an empty net from distance after Alnwick came out to meet Will Keane with a vital tackle outside the box.

Disaster struck when Ezekiel Fryers was adjudged to have handled a ball that appeared to hit his chest and Airey slipped the penalty past Sam Johnstone with ease. Six minutes later, Dan Taylor was left unmarked to head home at the far post following some fine play by Michael Richardson to make it 3-0.

After Richardson blazed over a chance to score himself, home skipper Jeff Henderson picked up an elbow injury that seemed to have a negative effect on the defence. A clever backheel by Davide Petrucci was pounced upon by Will Keane, who showed his pace and buried a firm low finish.

56 seconds later, the England Under-21 international latched onto a Lingard pass and slammed a wonderful finish past Alnwick to bring United right back into the game. Some wasteful free-kicks ruined any hope of restoring parity before the break but Fryers had to make a saving tackle to thwart Airey in time added on.

A tactical masterstroke from Warren Joyce, switching De Laet into attack after replacing Cole with Tom Thorpe, helped wreak havoc in the Tynesiders' backline. A great break, fuelled by Will Keane's touch, allowed De Laet to trade passes with Petrucci and put the ball on a plate for Will Keane to bag his hat-trick.

Newcastle regained some control but had no answer to the Reds' pace and fluency. De Laet's speed took him through again and, although he couldn't tee up Will Keane again, the striker retrieved the ball for Lingard to feed Petrucci, who showed clever feet inside the box to wriggle clear and supply a classy finish.

Despite the scoreline, both keepers pulled off some wonderful saves - Johnstone thwarting Inman and Airey with diving stops and Alnwick making one spellbinding save from Petrucci and also denying De Laet in a one-on-one situation. But Will Keane gave Alnwick no chance when rounding the home No1 after running onto a long ball forward by Petrucci to roll in his fourth of the night with his left foot.

And De Laet got the goal his play deserved when exchanging passes with Lingard and sprinting clear of the defence again to this time get the better of the unprotected Alnwick to clip home number six. It was the Belgian's last real contribution after picking up a knock but the Reds continued to flood forward and only another smart save kept out a Petrucci curler before the captain and goal-hungry Will Keane fired wide as the champions hunted a seventh. Will Keane also forced an injury-time save out of the beleaguered Alnwick but had to settle for four goals in the end.

Joyce's team, who have enjoyed a magnificent campaign and won the title with four games to spare, will face Aston Villa, the Southern section winners, in the grand final at this level with the date obviously still to be confirmed.

United drew 2-2 at Liverpool after a second-half fightback by the hosts following goals from Reserves Player of the Year nominees Michael Keane and Jesse Lingard.

The Reds, crowned champions on Monday, showed signs of tiredness towards the end and conceded an injury-time equaliser to Nathan Eccleston after Michael Ngoo pulled one back on 49 minutes.

There were few openings in a tight first half although former Reds trialist Ngoo caused a few problems with his awkward running style. Sam Johnstone wasn't extended in the opening 45 minutes, however, and the visitors were clinical when allowed a sniff of goal at the other end.

Lingard's low free-kick was not dealt with by the Liverpool defence and Michael Keane pounced from a couple of yards out to deflect the ball home for his fifth goal of the domestic campaign. Four minutes before the interval, the roles were reversed as Michael Keane launched a glorious through ball into the path of Lingard, who showed his usual composure to clip a confident finish past the advancing Peter Gulacsi.

The second period started in driving rain and Ngoo gave the hosts hope when United were caught napping at a throw-in and the leggy striker was able to tap in from close range. Buoyed by the breakthrough, the Merseysiders went close when Johnstone helped a Suso drive on its way over the bar and Ngoo dropped a header wide.

There was controversy when the Reds were denied a penalty when a free-kick by skipper Davide Petrucci appeared to strike a hand in the wall, possibly Conor Coady's, inside the area and the decision to play on left the game in the balance.

Subsitute striker Eccleston fired off target from a difficult angle and Suso shrugged off Ezekiel Fryers but curled wide after skipping past Ritchie De Laet.

Although Petrucci's free-kick drifted dangerously past the far post ahead of Michael Keane and Tom Thorpe, Joyce's side struggled to carve out too many openings and there was a real scare when Eccleston spurned a golden headed opportunity from a cross by Ngoo with only three minutes remaining. However, Eccleston got it right in the 91st minute by tucking a neat finish past Johnstone after Emmanuel Mendy latched onto a Suso pass and stretched to send over an inviting pull-back.

De Laet's header from a Luke Giverin corner deflected just wide, amid more appeals for handball, as United showed resilience to try and regain the lead in the dying seconds but instead had to settle for a point.

Manchester United's Reserves put on a display worthy of champions with an emphatic 4-1 success at Chelsea.

Warren Joyce's side had the match effectively won inside the opening 45 minutes with Ryan Tunnicliffe becoming the 17th different scorer for the Reds at this level this term, excluding own goals, and Will Keane on the scoresheet for the 17th time in a productive campaign.

Tunnicliffe got the ball rolling with a 10th minute opener, striding onto an Ezekiel Fryers cut-back and planting a left-footed finish past James Russell from the edge of the area. It was largely one-way traffic, although Romelu Lukaku lashed one ambitious attempt off target for the hosts.

Aziz Deen-Conteh needed to make a goalline clearance, Tom Thorpe's volley was held by Russell and Will Keane flashed a drive over the top as the Reds dominated. Larnell Cole added a deserved second goal by slipping the ball under Russell from a crafty through pass by Jesse Lingard and the match was as good as over before the break when Will Keane showed great skill to lift the ball over Russell and beat Nathan Ake on the line after his twin brother Michael's long ball came off Todd Kane's head.

The relentless Reds went further ahead five minutes into the second half when Ritchie De Laet proved he's getting a thirst for joining the attack, embarking on a solo run through the home defence before nudging into the net for his second goal at Reserves level this season.

Davide Petrucci also went through on his own, but was denied by a Russell save, while Chelsea went close to pulling one back as Thorpe made an outstanding headed clearance to frustrate Lucas Piazon when a goal seemed certain. An assistant referee's flag chalked off a Michele Fornasier effort, unfortunately as it was a sublime move containing a Petrucci backheel, and United went close to a fifth again when Will Keane's powerful header smacked against the woodwork after more fine play by Petrucci.

Chelsea pulled a goal back through Patrick Bamford's low drive that skidded past Sam Johnstone and entered the net via the inside of a post before Thorpe's injury-time header from a Petrucci free-kick clipped the bar as the champions comfortably took the three points back north.
