Arsenal say United clash will beat the Tube strike... so why are Fulham ready to cancel Liverpool game (and give the Reds a whole week to prepare for Cup tie with Gunners?)

* Fulham ready to postpone Premier League match against Liverpool due to London Underground strike
* Cottagers claim they won't be able to get enough stewards for the match
* Arsenal plan to host Manchester United as planned
* Fulham set 3pm deadline on Tuesday to make final decision

Fulham risk provoking a major row by calling off their Barclays Premier League clash with Liverpool on Wednesday because of the planned London Underground strike even though Arsenal will play at home on the same night.

The League’s bottom club claim they will not be able to get enough stewards to work if a threatened 48-hour walkout by Tube staff goes ahead.

Arsenal, whose 60,000 capacity is nearly three times greater than Craven Cottage, insist they can cope with any disruption on the night of their clash with Manchester United.

In doubt: Fulham's match with Liverpool on Wednesday could be called off due to the Tube strike

But Fulham have set a deadline of 3pm on Tuesday to decide and say they will postpone the match on safety grounds if the Tube dispute has not been resolved.

That decision is bound to anger Arsenal, who play Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday and will not want their opponents to enjoy a clear week’s recovery time ahead of the tie while they have a midweek game.

Fulham’s rivals in the relegation battle will also be unhappy. Rene Meulensteen’s side will have been drained by the huge effort they put into Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford - to Liverpool’s benefit.

Strike: London Underground workers staged a 48-hour walkout last week, and another is planned this week

Fulham said in a statement: ‘The club can confirm that it is currently proceeding on the basis that the game will go ahead.

'However, the club has concerns over the potential impact that the strike may have on the ability of its safety staff to attend the ground in sufficient time and numbers to ensure that it is able to open the ground and effectively operate it, from the time that the gates are open to the public until the departure of all supporters.

'After consulting with the local authority and the Metropolitan Police, it has been decided that if the proposed action is still undetermined at 3pm tomorrow (Tuesday), and the club cannot guarantee enough staff are available to attend the ground in sufficient time and numbers, then as a consequence the club would not be able to comply with the terms of its safety certificate and the fixture would be postponed and rescheduled for a future date.

'A further statement will be released at 3pm on Tuesday to confirm whether the game will go ahead or be postponed.'

Arsenal hope enough of their own stewards will get to the match. Parts of the Tube network will still be running and overground trains serving stations near Emirates Stadium will operate normally.

laga Fulham vs Pool terancam ditunda/undur karena mogok para pekerja di London, jika tidak mendapatkan izin keamanan maka laga terancam diundur, tentu ini menguntungkan Pool yg tampil lebih segar diakhir pekan kala menghadapi Arsenal di piala FA. laga Arsenal vs United sendiri dikabarkan juga bakal diundur/tunda, tetapi kansnya lebih kecil dibanding laga Fulham vs Pool.

Tempers flare at the Hawthorns with Torres and Foster involved in bust-up after game

Fernando Torres and Ben Foster were involved in a heated altercation as tempers flared at the end of Chelsea’s draw at West Brom.

The spoils were shared in Tuesday night’s Premier League encounter after Victor Anichebe equalised for the hosts in the 87th minute, cancelling out Branislav Ivanovic’s first-half opener.

And emotions boiled over at the final whistle after Torres and Baggies stopper Foster squared up to each other.

The altercation was sparked when Foster went down under a challenge from a Chelsea corner in the final minute of injury time.

It provoked a swift reaction from the former England stopper amid claims that Torres had kneed him in the back.

Although Foster's initial grievance appeared to be aimed at Chelsea defender Gary Cahill he then exchanged words with Torres before appearing to point to the tunnel and reportedly asking his Spanish opponent if he wanted to continue the row away from the pitch.

The altercation however, quickly fizzled out and Foster later laughed off the bust-up with Torres, who came on a second-half substitute, claiming it was nothing more than a ‘friendly chat’.

Chelsea's draw at West Brom means that Arsenal can now leapfrog Jose Mourinho's side at the summit of the Premier League if they beat Manchester United at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Blown away! Man City vs Sunderland and Everton vs Palace games POSTPONED

Manchester City face the possibility of a late-season fixture pile-up after the postponement of last night’s Barclays Premier League clash with Sunderland.

With City still pushing for trophies in all four competitions, Manuel Pellegrini and his players will struggle to squeeze in the rearranged fixture any time soon.

City have the first leg of their Champions League tie against Barcelona next week, and the second leg a fortnight after.

There is a ‘free’ week from February 23 to Sunday March 2, but that is also a Champions League week for the other half of the last-16 draw, and UEFA may oppose a game being played in another competition during the same week.

The week after contains international friendlies. So City may have to wait until April to fit this game in, and even then there could be a clash with Champions League fixtures if Pellegrini’s team remain in the competition.

In the short term, the postponement - on a night which also saw Everton’s game against Crystal Palace called off - denied City the chance to go above rivals Arsenal, who were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United last night, and Chelsea, who could only draw at West Brom on Tuesday.

City captain Vincent Kompany had no complaints about the decision, given the 100mph winds buffeting Manchester before kick-off. He tweeted: ‘Game’s called off! Make sure you get yourself home and be safe. Weather is terrible!’
The club revealed that a wall on a nearby road had been knocked down by the wind, and a programme booth had been toppled.

There were also reports that trees had blown down, causing tailbacks on roads leading to the stadium.

Some City and Sunderland fans asked why the game was postponed at 6.45pm, an hour before kick-off.

There had been a red weather warning in place in Manchester for some time yesterday, but City officials explained that it was only when the wind grew stronger in the two hours before kick-off that problems began to arise.

Everton and Crystal Palace fans were even more furious, as their game was called off just 35 minutes before it was scheduled to start.

Everton’s chief executive Robert Elstone defended the club’s decision. Everton immediately decided to postpone when a chimney was blown off the roof of the Winslow Pub, which is adjacent to the stadium on Goodison Road.

Elstone said: ‘At 6.30pm I had a meeting with our head of safety, the police and the referee and it was decided we should go ahead. But 10 to 15 minutes later things started dropping off roofs.

'There was no other decision we could take. Fans’ safety always has to come first.’ Everton manager Roberto Martinez had no complaints.

‘The last thing we want is for any of the fans to be put in a dangerous position,’ he told Everton TV.

‘It is disappointing because we were ready to warm up and it’s an anti-climax. But the police have called the game off and rightly so.’

The weather was also causing problems for Manchester United and Liverpool fans attempting to make their way back north from London last night.

With sections of the M6 motorway closed in both directions and severe delays to northbound train services leaving Euston station, a large number of supporters were facing the prospect of being stranded in the capital overnight.
