Edwin van der Sar - Made a couple of solid early saves and performed heroics with his last-ditch tackle on Anelka, and was his usual dependable self.

John O'Shea - Picked up an early booking and initially struggled against Malouda's purpose, but recovered well and played a delightful pass in the build-up to Chicharito's opener.

Rio Ferdinand - Worryingly picked up a knock early on and took time to recover, but thereafter assumed his usual role of defensive organiser well.

Nemanja Vidic - Gave Torres nothing in the first half and, though he was posed greater questions by Drogba, asserted himself well and played a captain's role.

Patrice Evra - Coped well with Anelka but often found himself up against the far trickier Drogba in the second period, and was booked for an off-the-ball tangle with the Ivorian.

Nani - Attacked Ivanovic at will and looked menacing throughout. A continuation of his fine recent form.

Michael Carrick - Almost as impressive as he was at Stamford Bridge. Superb in possession and without it, worked beautifully in tandem with Giggs.

Ryan Giggs - Simply incredible. Another fine performance in the centre, capped with two superbly measured assists.

Ji-sung Park - Continues to perpetuate his 'big game player' tag. Diligent throughout, the Korean then popped up to lash home a superb clincher.

Wayne Rooney - Excellent again. Dropped deep to provide a steadying midfield presence and keep Chicharito involved, and displayed a cool head throughout.

Chicharito - Gave as good as he got against Terry, and ran the Chelsea backline ragged - as well as popping up with the all-important opener.

Substitutes

Antonio Valencia (on for Nani, 75) - Gave Cole a tough time, as ever, and played a key role in Park's late settler.

A 21-year old woman described by family members as ‘a staunch Chelsea supporter’ died on the way to hospital after fainting just minutes when Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez scored the first goal in yesterday's Champions League quarter finals clash between the Red Devils and The Blues.

Tabitha Nyambura, who was an aviation student, was watching the game with her mother and other family members at home in Kiserian, a town which is about thirty kilometres from Nairobi City, when she heaved heavily thrice, just seconds after Hernandez scored the opener before she passed out.

“After Manchester United scored the first goal, she simply said, ‘United will win this match’ and then took three deep breaths before falling down,” her mother told Citizen TV.

“She died on the way as we rushed her to hospital. She was shocked because she never expected Manchester United to win.”

Her father who was not at home at that time told the TV station that Tabitha was a staunch Chelsea supporter and watched all their matches and other matches in the English Premier League.

“I was away but she loved Chelsea and watched all their matches and that of other teams. She also liked to play football occasionally while at home,” the father said.

The family was awaiting post-modem results to ascertain the real cause of her death.

This is not the first time a Kenyan fan has died because of football matches happening far away in England.

In May 2009, Seuleiman Alphonso Omondi, an ardent Arsenal fan committed suicide after Manchester United eliminated the Gunners from the Champions League on a 4-1 goal aggregate.

And last year in March, a Manchester United fan, 19-year old Abubakar Baishe was repeatedly stabbed by fellow school-mate, who was an Arsenal fan. Baishe was stabbed in the left side of his abdomen after United beat Liverpool on the 21st March 2010. Baishe though survived the tragic incident.
