Re: [UCL] Munchen vs Man Utd
Bayern Munich fear Wayne Rooney - Franz Beckenbauer Bayern Munich president and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer admits Wayne Rooney poses a major threat to his side's Champions League hopes. "He is doing an absolutely fantastic job for Manchester United," said Beckenbauer of the England striker. "It is not easy to score 33 goals for your club in England, or anywhere else. "He is a brilliant player who is playing better than ever. We at Bayern will fear him when we play United in the Champions League quarter-finals." The last-eight tie is a repeat of the dramatic 1999 Champions League final, which United won 2-1 thanks to injury-time goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The first leg takes place in Germany on 30 March, with the return at Old Trafford on 7 April. We have a very difficult and busy league and cup programme going into that tie," added Beckenbauer. "Of course, we would like to knock them out for revenge for losing the 1999 final but it is going to be tough. And, of course, United have Rooney. "Anything is possible but first we have to stop Wayne, and no-one has been able to do that very often this season." Beckenbauer also believes Rooney can fire England to World Cup success in South Africa. "I have never seen him play better and I have been watching him for a long time now," said the 64-year-old Beckenbauer, who has won the World Cup as both a player and a manager. "If he continues scoring and playing like that he can win the World Cup for England." Rooney was England's top scorer in qualifying for the finals with nine goals from their 10 games, and the 24-year-old has taken his form into the club season, taking on the burden of scoring more goals following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Real Madrid. Rooney's all-round improvement has not gone unnoticed by Beckenbauer, who says England are among the favourites to lift the World Cup in South Africa this summer - along with Spain, Brazil and Argentina. "Of course, Argentina have Lionel Messi, who along with Rooney is the best player in the world right now. "They are different players because Messi is so fast and imaginative while Rooney is so strong, but Wayne has made the biggest improvement to his game. "He has changed the way he plays and has added a maturity to his game. Playing as the front man, he makes it so hard for defenders to mark him and he is able to use the crosses from both wings so well." Wayne Rooney Rooney has scored 33 goals for his club this season Bayern's former manager, Jurgen Klinsmann, has also tipped the Manchester United man as a possible player of the year in Europe. "So far, Wayne is playing a tremendous season," Klinsmann told Uefa.com. "He's really hungry for goals, and he wants trophies now. "He looks calm, he looks confident. So if he continues like that, he might get a shot at the European Player of the Year award."

Re: [UCL] Munchen vs Man Utd
Brace yourselves, Bayern! Manchester United will attack Munich in search of away goals, reveals Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson will send his side out looking for goals when Manchester United visit Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Although Bayern represent possibly the Red Devils' most famous opponents given they were the victims of that amazing Champions League final smash and grab in Barcelona 11 years ago, it does represent the only time the German giants have been beaten by United. Aside from two drawn matches in the group stage of the same season's competition, Bayern have emerged victorious on two occasions, one of which was due to a crucial away goal at Old Trafford. History suggests there will be little between the teams again in their eagerly-awaited two-legged quarter-final, which is why Ferguson believes any advantage that can be prised out of the Allianz Arena this week could prove crucial. 'A score draw or win is all you can hope for,' Ferguson told MUTV. 'It would give us a good chance.' It is the same philosophy that served United so well in Milan for the last round, when despite falling behind to Ronaldinho's early goal, they maintained an attacking mentality and ultimately scored three times to put the tie well beyond David Beckham and his team-mates even before they were massacred at Old Trafford. 'We would like to equal our performance in Milan,' he said. 'If we get the same kind of performance and result we would have a massive advantage coming back to Old Trafford.' United will encounter a different team, which relies on the pace of wing duo Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. Both men are well known to Ferguson given he has looked often enough at the former, especially in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo's departure, and thought he had got the latter until Chelsea stepped in to snap him up in 2004. Although Bastian Schweinsteiger is suspended, with the likes of Mark van Bommel, Philipp Lahm and Miroslav Klose in their squad, Bayern are not opponents Ferguson intends to take lightly. 'The history of Bayern and our games against them in past European ties tells you it is going to be a very difficult game,' said Ferguson. 'It will be a fantastic atmosphere, in a great stadium, with a good pitch. 'They are an experienced team. But hopefully we get everyone we need fit and we will have a good chance.' With Ryan Giggs back after a broken arm, it seems Ferguson has got his wish, particularly given he brushed off any fears about Wayne Rooney's knee yesterday. If fit, Rooney would almost certainly be called upon to occupy the lone striker's role that suits both the player and his team so well. The energy of Park Ji-sung and Darren Fletcher will probably be required as well, leaving Giggs to scrap it out for one of the remaining slots which, amongst others, Michael Carrick is hoping to fill. 'The fact we reached back-to-back finals got lost a little bit last year because of the result against Barcelona in the final,' said the England midfielder. 'Of course, that hurt us a lot. We are looking to bounce back and to make it three in a row would be a great achievement.' Dailymail |

Re: [UCL] Munchen vs Man Utd
United Langsung Gempur Bayern
