Manchester United disappointed after Arsenal reduce allocation of tickets for FA Cup clash down to 5,233 from 9,000 due to safety concerns

* Under competition rules Manchester United should have 15 per cent of tickets
* At Arsenal's 60,000-seater stadium this would equate to a total of 9,000
* But Gunners cut that number down on recommendation of their safety group
* United challenged the decision but it has since been ratified by the FA

Manchester United are unhappy that their ticket allocation for next week's FA Cup fourth round clash with Arsenal at the Emirates has been almost halved.

United were last night said to be disappointed at the decision while supporters branded it 'a joke'.

Under competition rules, United should be given 15 per cent of the tickets for the game on Friday, January 25, which equates to 9,000 at Arsenal's 60,000-seater stadium.

However, they will receive only 5,233 tickets after Arsenal reduced the allocation on the recommendation of their safety advisory group over concerns that away fans would stand in the upper tier.

United challenged the decision but it has been ratified by the FA, who granted Arsenal dispensation to cut the number of tickets available to their opponents.

United had no option but to accept the decision because it is on safety grounds, and are also aware of the need to allocate tickets through their ballot system as soon as possible so fans can make travel plans for the game in nine days' time.

It is not the first time that Arsenal have cut the ticket allocation for a Premier League rival for a cup tie at the Emirates, and there are concerns that they did not follow the rules by seeking dispensation from the FA before originally reducing United's share.

Arsenal have reduced the number of tickets for Manchester United fans due to safety concerns

Fans groups from both clubs criticised the decision. A spokesman for Manchester United Supporters Trust said: 'For Arsenal to offer little over half the proper allocation is a joke.

'And to say away fans cannot be in an upper tier, where they are at many league grounds, is ridiculous.

'What's more, this needs to be sorted now. The game is just 10 days away and at present United are unable to sell tickets to their fans. Supporters need to make arrangements for a fixture which has already been shifted to an inconvenient Friday night kick-off time.

'We need to keep the FA Cup special, and that means making Arsenal stick to the full away fan allocation.' The Arsenal Supporters Trust also called for United to be given the full allocation, mindful that they will want the same if the tie goes to a replay at Old Trafford.

They tweeted: 'One of things that was/is special about FA Cup is the large away allocation.

'Set at 15 per cent in rules. Creates great atmosphere and differentiation to Premier League. So frustrating to see this under threat at Emirates for MUFC cup tie.

'Should there be a replay we would want 15 per cent of Old Trafford to support our team. The continual attack on rights of all away fans does nothing to help football as a live match experience.'

'We take safety of fans at the Emirates Stadium very seriously': Arsenal defend allocating only 5,233 tickets to Manchester United for FA Cup clash

* Arsenal have defended offering a smaller ticket allocation to Manchester United
* United were allocated just 8.7 percent of tickets, which is about 5,233 seats
* The decision was derided by the Manchester United Supporters Trust
* But Arsenal say they take the security measures extremely seriously

Arsenal have defended offering a smaller ticket allocation to Manchester United for their FA Cup fourth-round clash - with a leading fan group for the Red Devils labelling the decision 'hypocritical'.

United have only been given 8.7 per cent of tickets, which equates to 5,233 seats, for the January 25 meeting at the Emirates Stadium - with FA Cup rules stating 15 per cent should be made available for visiting sides.

The decision has been derided by the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) - whose strongly-worded statement issued on Wednesday evening criticised both the Gunners and the Football Association.

Arsenal have defended the decision to allocate Man United fans just over 5,000 for FA Cup tie . An Arsenal spokesman said that they take the security measures extremely seriously

'We are hugely disappointed by the decision to uphold Arsenal's self-interested and hypocritical near-halving of the 15 per cent ticket allocation that should be provided under FA Cup rules,' it read.

'The FA must themselves be concerned by this blatant disrespect for their own rule.

'The vibrant atmosphere created by a larger away supporter presence is part of the 'magic of the FA Cup' that is already suffering as a result of other decisions including televising and rescheduling matches - although ironically 11,000 United supporters were willing to meet the resulting travel challenge and now more than half will be denied the opportunity.'

Manchester United themselves had pushed for the full allocation of tickets to be made available to their supporters.

But the decision was taken after Arsenal - and the relevant authorities - deemed it would 'not be safe' to open both tiers for away fans.

'We recognise that having more away fans at matches is one of the many reasons why the Emirates FA Cup is so special,' a club spokesman said.

'For the match against Manchester United, the safety assessments we have undertaken, which included liaison with our stadium licensing authority, have made it clear it would not be safe to accommodate visiting fans in the upper tier.

'We take safety of home and away fans at Emirates Stadium very seriously and cannot ignore the results of the robust safety assessments which have been conducted.'

ARSENAL V UNITED: ALL THE ESSENTIAL INFO

With seven wins from the last seven games, Manchester United will look to continue our unbeaten run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, against Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie on Friday night.

The Reds and the Gunners have a rich history in the famous competition, having met on 15 previous occasions. However, this will be our first trip to the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup.

As we approach five years since the last goalless draw between the two sides, an exciting encounter is in prospect and a place in the fifth-round draw, which will take place on Monday night, is up for grabs.

Scroll down for our guide to the big game...

WHAT'S THE TEAM NEWS?

It remains to be seen if defenders Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo will be available for selection. Shaw was taken ill in the warm-up prior to last weekend's 2-1 win over Brighton and replaced by Diogo Dalot, while Smalling and Rojo have returned to training after recent injury problems. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last week that Marouane Fellaini is expected to be out for three to four weeks with a calf problem but he expects former Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez to return against his former club after missing the last two games through injury.

WHAT ABOUT ARSENAL?

The hosts have been dealt a severe blow with the news that Hector Bellerin will be out of action for the rest of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in last Saturday's 2-0 home victory over Chelsea. The Spanish full-back joins fellow defender Rob Holding and former United striker Danny Welbeck on the sidelines, as the pair are also recovering from long-term injuries. Former Reds midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is back in training but looks set to miss out after fracturing a metatarsal recently.

HOW HAVE ARSENAL BEEN DOING?

Following back-to-back defeats in their opening two Premier League fixtures, Unai Emery's side embarked on an impressive 22-game unbeaten run, which included 13 consecutive victories in all competitions. After finally coming unstuck against Southampton in mid-December, the hosts have hit a sticky patch of form of late, with a 1-0 defeat at West Ham United a fortnight ago in stark contrast to last weekend's 2-0 win over Chelsea. Despite being knocked out by Championship side Nottingham Forest in the third round last season, the Gunners have enjoyed success in the FA Cup in recent years, winning the competition in three of the last five seasons. In this season's third round, the north London outfit were comfortable 3-0 winners over League One side Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

OUR RECORD AGAINST THE GUNNERS

United have lost only five games in just under 11 years against Arsenal in all competitions. Friday's hosts have become a team that the Reds tend to revel against, with United winning eight Premier League games away against the Gunners - more than any other team. Our most recent visit to the Emirates Stadium was in December 2017, where goals from Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard (2), as well as some heroic goalkeeping from David De Gea, secured a 3-1 victory for us in a thrilling contest under the lights.

ONE TO WATCH

With 14 Premier League goals to his name this season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been a potent finisher for the Gunners. The Gabonese striker only sits behind Harry Kane and Mo Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot and has been helped by fellow striker Alexandre Lacazette and Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who have assisted 12 of Aubameyang's goals between them. After joining Arsenal on transfer deadline day in January last year, the 29-year-old went on to score 10 goals during the second half of the campaign. The arrival of Unai Emery in the summer, following the departure of Arsene Wenger, has seen Aubameyang already improve on that tally but the former Borussia Dortmund man has not scored for Arsenal since New Year's Day.

WHO IS THE REFEREE?

Craig Pawson will be the man in the middle for Friday night's cup tie. The 39-year-old referee from Sheffield will take charge of his second United fixture of the season, having been in charge for the Reds' 3-0 defeat to Tottenham back in August. Pawson will be assisted by Eddie Smart and Constantine Hatzidakis. Paul Tierney, who took charge of last weekend's 2-1 win over Brighton, will be the fourth official. Chris Kavanagh will be the Video Assistant Referee, with the assistance of Gary Beswick. This will be United's third match of the campaign in which VAR will be in operation, ahead of the technology being introduced in the Champions League next month and the Premier League next season.

SEVEN TALKING POINTS FOR ARSENAL V UNITED

Matches between Arsenal and Manchester United rarely disappoint and don't need much in the way of an introduction.

The two clubs meet again on Friday night in the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup for the latest instalment in a long-running saga. We’ve picked out some of the hot topics up for discussion ahead of the big game…

CAN OLE MAKE IT EIGHT FROM EIGHT?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to continue the best-ever start by a United boss when we visit the Emirates Stadium; a good omen is that we won in north London just a fortnight ago when beating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. If the Norwegian can make it eight wins from his first eight games, it would give us even more confidence heading into further tough assignments – including Paris St-Germain in the Champions League and Liverpool in the Premier League. With the possibility of a burdensome replay if the game finishes in a draw, and the shared determination to go all the way in the competition, Solskjaer and his opposite number Unai Emery will undoubtedly be going all out for a victory.

IT'S TIGHT BETWEEN THE TEAMS
If our last meeting with the Gunners is anything to go by, we could be in for another fascinating evening. The Reds twice came from behind to draw 2-2 in a pulsating encounter in the league at Old Trafford in early December. Both teams are level on points and adjacent in the Premier League table, while we boast an even record from meetings at the Emirates Stadium since the ground opened in 2006/07 – with five wins apiece and three draws. We also have fond memories of our last visit 14 months ago, when some clinical finishing and heroic goalkeeping from David De Gea saw us emerge 3-1 winners. It’s the perfect way to kick start the fourth-round weekend under the lights in the capital – and, not forgetting, there’s VAR to throw into the mix too!

CHANCE TO CATCH ARSENAL ON WINNERS LIST
There’s a lot riding on the game, not least in historical terms as the two most successful clubs in the FA Cup do battle again. United have won the trophy 12 times, most recently when beating Crystal Palace in the 2016 final, while Arsenal have triumphed on a record 13 occasions. Of course, it’s also an opportunity to reach the fifth round and get one over a Premier League rival. Ole has already spoken passionately about how much he loved the FA Cup as a player and he would dearly love to add another success in the famous old competition as a manager.

DALOT TO PLAY AT LEFT-BACK AGAIN?
Diogo Dalot received a surprise late call-up to the XI against Brighton last weekend after Luke Shaw was taken ill in the warm-up and played his part in Marcus Rashford’s sublime goal with a fine assist. The Portuguese youngster, who has made 12 appearances for the Reds so far, has mainly operated at right-back but showed against the Seagulls he’s equally comfortable playing at left-back. His latest mature display received widespread praise among United fans on social media and Dalot, who started against Reading in the previous round of the FA Cup, has given Solskjaer another option to think about.

RASHFORD’S IN THE BEST FORM OF HIS CAREER
There’s one man every United fan is raving about at the moment - and rightly so. Marcus Rashford is currently in the best form of his burgeoning career so far. Seven goals in his last 10 games, a Man of the Match display on his 150th Reds appearance last time out against Brighton, netting in four successive league games for the first time – we could reel off so many stats which back up the 21-year-old’s irrepressible run of late. With memories of his brace against Arsenal on his Premier League debut in February 2016 to spur him on, he’ll no doubt have the Gunners in his sights again in his bid to add to the five goals he’s scored in the FA Cup to date.

ALEXIS SET FOR REUNION WITH GUNNERS
In the week of his first anniversary since joining United from Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez could make his first return to the Emirates, where he’ll be remembered as a cult hero. The Chilean scored 80 goals in 166 games during four seasons with the Gunners, winning the FA Cup twice and the Community Shield in 2014. He was also named Arsenal’s Player of the Season on two occasions. Our no.7 will be desperate to return to action having not featured in the last two games since coming off against Reading in the last round of the FA Cup with an injury. Solskjaer said last week that Alexis has shown a great attitude in training and he’s confident that the 30-year-old will be able to feature against his former club on Friday.

THAT FRIDAY FEELING IN THE AWAY END
Yes, it can be problematic for match-going fans, but there are so many things to love about a Friday-night game! There will be 5,223 supporters in the away end at the Emirates Stadium, which is terrific considering the timing and the long trip required for some supporters. It will be our first Friday fixture since the opening weekend of the league campaign, when we beat Leicester City 2-1 at Old Trafford. The Reds also had two games on this day of the week during our journey to last season’s FA Cup final – against Derby County at home in round three and Yeovil Town away in the fourth round when Alexis made his debut. But there’s nothing quite like beating one of your rivals away from home under the lights with millions watching around the world, so let’s hope we get the perfect start to the weekend by booking our place in the fifth round!

Jika United menang piala FA maka otomatis bakal tampil di Community Shield (CC) melawan juara EPL, paling tidak dengan tampil di CC terbuka kesempatan menambah gelar juara meski prestisenya agak kurang hehehe...
