Manchester United U21 4-0 Southampton U21: Adnan Januzaj bags a brace as Belgian looks to impress Louis van Gaal

* Adnan Januzaj opened scoring for Manchester United Under 21s
* Will Keane scored United's second and third goals after half-time
* Januzaj finished a Keane cutback to hand United a 4-0 victory
* Louis van Gaal wants the Belgian youngster to prove his fitness

Back in a Manchester United shirt and back lifting bums off seats, Adnan Januzaj walked away from his homecoming a happy man.

He drifted and dazzled on Monday night, identifying difficult pockets and scoring twice to boot during 81 minutes which will have impressed Louis van Gaal’s watching assistant, Albert Stuivenberg, at Leigh Sports Village.

Hopefully for Januzaj's sake the loan at Borussia Dortmund can be consigned to the wrong option bin and on this evidence Van Gaal was right to give the player an extra few days’ training before an Under 21 runout.

Adnan Januzaj celebrates giving his side a 1-0 lead in the Under 21 Premier League clash on Monday night

Januzaj, who will be hoping to earn a first-team call-up, scored twice for the Manchester United Under 21s

He looked sharp and ready, an outside bet for a spot in the weekend squad when Southampton’s senior side make the trip north. Another 4-0 win would do United nicely.

He began with a point to prove, sauntering inside from his right-hand station to whip a cross for Will Keane, whose header flew over. Keane then went close again moments later, bamboozling Jack Stephens before smashing the resulting volley wide.

Januzaj then brilliantly started a move he almost finished midway through the first half, taking three Southampton midfielders out of the game to find captain James Weir; catching up with play the Belgian got on the end of the eventual pull-back to force a smart stop out of Paulo Gazzaniga.

Any lingering Dortmund doubts were not evident and Januzaj was clearly in the mood to show Van Gaal - who has been crying out for attacking ingenuity - that he could do it backwards and forwards in equal measure. The former may have been the most pleasing aspect for those here.

There were bruises along the way, Josh Sims cynically hacking him down when forcefully embarking on the final third after picking up possession in his own half.

More encouragingly for Van Gaal would be the sight of Januzaj’s movement off the ball, quite willing to run across Keane and drop in search of possession.

And, just as Southampton began to get to grips with him, Januzaj struck from 25 yards, his low effort appearing to take a deflection and zipping past Gazzaniga. Even though that came during a quieter spell the result was little more than he deserved.

Red Devils youngster Will Keane sweeps United into a commanding 3-0 lead from the penalty spot

Januzaj & Pereira levelnya uda bukan di U21 nih
Meanwhile, United masih tertahan di posisi 2 klasemen grup 1, tapi masih punya 3 tabungan pertandingan daripada Sunderland U21 yang berada di posisi 1.
Selisih poin 6 doang.

UNDER-21S: UNITED 1 SUNDERLAND 0

Barclays Under-21 Premier League | 25 January 2016 | Scorer: Weir 69

Manchester United continue to hunt down Sunderland at the Barclays Under-21 Premier League summit as a 1-0 victory closes the gap at the top to three points.

James Weir scored the only goal of an entertaining clash at Leigh Sports Village in the second half and, although it was no more than the Reds deserved for another splendid showing, they had to be on their mettle throughout the 90 minutes.

The Black Cats showed why they are top of the league with a resolute performance, even if the Reds asked all the questions with some probing play. The visitors' centre-forward Mikael Mandron was unable to reach a Carl Lawson cross and had the first shot on 19 minutes when screwing well wide but Warren Joyce's men soon took control.

Adnan Januzaj bounced a corner against the near post and he also fired into the side-netting following a lovely move which included Weir's cross being inches too high for Will Keane in the middle. Andreas Pereira's free-kick deserved a finishing touch in the six-yard area but Januzaj took centre stage as he continued to tease his markers.

The Belgian made a speedy break deep into Sunderland territory and, after a devastating run, went for goal with his unmarked colleagues frustrated as the ball flew over the bar. Only a fine defensive header by Liam Agnew prevented another Januzaj corner entering the net with the youngster clearly out to emulate Pereira's feat against Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s recently.

As half-time approached, Keane controlled a return pass by Januzaj and showed nice technique to get an instant shot away but it was well held by Maksymilian Stryjek. The keeper made a similar stop to deny Joe Riley following the restart as the Wearsiders worked hard to frustrate the dominant hosts.

The chances dried up a little until Januzaj mustered a couple of attempts on target, with Stryjek turning behind a powerful drive after Keane was tackled as he latched onto a Joe Riley cross. A brilliant pass by Josh Harrop picked out Keane but Stryjek again saved well, as the pressure began to mount again.

It was Weir who broke the deadlock on 69 minutes with United's 17th shot of the night following a fantastic move. Matty Willock found Keane and his sublime touch allowed Weir to burst into the box and supply a neat finish.

Weir, who was on the bench for the first-team game at Newcastle, forced a diving stop out of Stryjek seconds later and the goal forced the Black Cats to show a little more ambition. There was a real escape when a rare raid by Rees Greenwood down the left allowed him to tee up Mandron for a simple opening but Donald Love somehow managed to deflect it off the line and out for a corner with his back.

Sunderland pressed in the closing stages, though Januzaj had a couple of long-range efforts on the break and Keane was thwarted by a fine Stryjek save in the final minute, as Joyce's side showed another side of the game to close out three vital points in the defence of the title. Joel Pereira clutched a Martin Smith free-kick in stoppage time to ensure United are within touching distance at the top with three games in hand.

United: J.Pereira; Varela, Williams, Love, Riley; Willock, A.Pereira, Harrop; Januzaj (McTominay 93), Keane, Weir. Subs not used: Henderson, El Fitouri, Rothwell, Rashford.

Adnan Januzaj impresses for Manchester United Under 21s again as they beat Sunderland's development side 1-0

* Adnan Januzaj hit the post attempting to score directly from a corner
* Belgian looked dangerous throughout in narrow Manchester United win
* Will Keane and Andreas Pereira also featured for United
* Victory made it six wins in six for United in Under 21s Premier League
* United move within three points of Sunderland at top of the table

Adnan Januzaj put in an impressive display for Manchester United Under 21s against Sunderland on Monday night after coming off the bench in the 1-0 defeat by Southampton on Saturday.

The Belgian winger was in a typical show-boating mood as he hit the post attempting to score directly from a corner in the first half before running the length of the field with the ball in another exhibition of his class.

The 20-year-old also saw one of his crosses cleared off the line in an otherwise event-free first half in a clash between the top two in the Barclays Under 21 Premier League.

Adnan Januzaj stated for Manchester United U21s two days after coming off the bench against Southampton

Will Keane missed some good opportunities for the home team before James Weir finished off a fine move to put United within three points of their opponents after a 1-0 win.

Andreas Pereira also featured for United's development squad which made it six wins in six with the victory.

While Januzaj wasn't quite at the level he had been in his last outing for the Under 21s in which he netted a double against Southampton's Under development squad the winger still showed his class that made him a key player under David Moyes at Old Trafford.

The Belgian showcased his flair throughout the match and was at the heart of most of his side's good work, lifting his level in the second half.

Januzaj will be hoping to get more of a run out than the five minutes or so he managed against Southampton on Saturday when United face Derby in the FA Cup on Friday.

The 20-year-old spent most of this season on loan at Dortmund but returned to Old Trafford after barely featuring for the German side.

Louis van Gaal has told the winger he must impress in the Under 21s in order to secure first team opportunities.

U21S: VENUE CHANGE FOR EVERTON V UNITED

Story updated 12:00 GMT

Manchester United's Under-21s will now play Everton at the Merseyside club's Finch Farm training ground tonight, behind closed doors, after adverse weather rendered the pitch at Southport FC unsuitable. Kick-off is still at 19:00 GMT but fans will not be able to attend.

Warren Joyce's young Reds are aiming for a seventh successive victory, with the sixth win on the current run coming last Monday when the leaders Sunderland were defeated 1-0. The Black Cats have since drawn 0-0 with Chelsea to extend the gap to four points over the second-placed Reds but United remain very determined to retain the title in 2016.

James Weir scored the winner against the Wearsiders and has earned praise from Joyce for his contribution as captain but the splendid form has been down to a series of excellent team displays.

"James Weir is really consistent and a very clever footballer with a clever brain, who sets up good positions," Joyce told ManUtd.com. "Matty Willock, Joe Riley and Ro-Shaun Williams have also done very well but we've seen improvement all around the team.

"Sunderland were a big, strong and physical side and older than us really. They've played together for a number of years – it was the same names going back to Davide Petrucci's age group – and they have a really top coach who had them well organised and properly drilled.

"It has shown in their performances and results that they've had a settled team all season, with nearly the same players every game, and they looked like a proper side."

The switch of tonight's venue to Everton's Finch Farm complex follows a pitch inspection at Southport, where the weekend's Conference Premier game with Boreham Wood was postponed due to a waterlogged surface. A statement on Southport's website said: "The Merseyrail Community Stadium pitch was totally flooded last night (Sunday), the worst in living memory.

"Southport FC officials, with regret, have requested a pitch inspection via Everton and the Premier League as early as possible on Monday to call off tonight's prestigious Everton v Manchester United match."

ManUtd.com will publish a match report from Finch Farm as soon as possible after full-time tonight.

UNDER-21S: EVERTON 2 UNITED 0

Barclays Under-21 Premier League | 1 February 2016 | Finch Farm | Scorers: Holgate 32, Dyson 80.

Manchester United remain four points adrift of leaders Sunderland in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table after a rare defeat - 2-0 against Everton.

The game was originally due to be played at Southport's Merseyrail Community Stadium but a waterlogged pitch meant a switch of venue to the Toffees' Finch Farm complex.

With no MUTV live cameras nor fans permitted, it was a rather low key setting for such a fixture. Everton had a good deal of the ball in the opening stages of the game, but United’s defence worked doggedly to keep their scoring chances down to a minimum.

There was a strong wind gusting across the training complex – anyone who has visited Finch Farm will know that it’s an sprawling exposed facility – but it was difficult to ascertain exactly which way it was blowing and which team, if either, was benefiting.

It was certainly a full-blooded match with both sides contesting each and every ball. Everton took the lead, in the 32nd minute, when Kieran Dowell crossed from the right for Mason Holgate, a trialist with United last year, to head home.

United went close to levelling in the minutes leading up to half time with Joe Riley firing over and Devonte Redmond hitting the side-netting from Adnan Januzaj’s corner. The strength of the wind appeared to intensify after break, but it didn’t stop the sides from continuing their breathless approach to the contest.

It was definitely a case of no quarter asked and no quarter given with every challenge approached with increasing gusto. James Weir hit a rising shot over the bar, in the 64th minute, and Januzaj did his level best to find an opening against the massed ranks of blue shirts.

United keeper Joel Castro Pereira dealt with a fierce drive from former United starlet Sam Byrne. However, the visitors' hopes of salvaging something from a chilly night on Merseyside looked doomed 10 minutes from the end when Calum Dyson headed a second goal from a Byrne cross to the far post.

The Reds did their best to reduce the arrears in the minutes that remained, but Everton had done enough to clinch a hard-fought victory. Warren Joyce's men will need to pick themselves up for next week's outing at Old Trafford against Norwich City, the team that inflicted the last defeat back in late November.

Regan Poole, who signed from Newport County last summer, is now eligible to represent the club and he came off the bench in the dying seconds to make his debut.

United: J.Pereira; Fosu-Mensah, Love, Williams, Riley (Poole 89); Willock (Rothwell 89), Redmond (Rashford 61); Weir, Harrop, Januzaj; Keane. Subs: Henderson, El Fitouri.

There is free entry for all spectators at United's next Under-21 fixture - against Norwich City at Old Trafford - on Monday 8 February.

UNDER-21S: UNITED 7 NORWICH 0

Barclays Under-21 Premier League | 8 February 2016 | Old Trafford | Scorers: Keane 13, 37, 47, 62, 77, Pereira 52 pen, Fosu-Mensah 70.

Manchester United hit Norwich City for seven in the Under-21 clash at Old Trafford with Will Keane helping himself to five of the goals.

Andreas Pereira converted a penalty and Tim Fosu-Mensah also got in on the act as Warren Joyce's side scored five times in the second half in front of Louis van Gaal to make up for the defeat at Carrow Road earlier in the season.

United fielded a strong side, containing the likes of Phil Jones, Pereira, Memphis Depay and Adnan Januzaj, and it soon became apparent the young Canaries would be in for a long night. Remi Matthews made a smart save at his near post to keep out Keane's low drive after the striker was picked out by Januzaj inside the opening four minutes and the keeper also had to flip a Januzaj corner over the top of his goal.

Pereira's cross skipped just wide and Keane backheeled off target from another Januzaj corner as the Norwich goal lived a charmed life. Keane finally opened the floodgates on 13 minutes when slamming in with his second touch after being picked out well by Pereira.

Benny Ashley-Seal managed a shot wide for the visitors and injuries to Januzaj and Guillermo Varela interrupted United's flow, even though the Belgian had a decent penalty shout after being felled by Afolabi Coker rejected. Both Reds were withdrawn but Keane notched his second with a tap-in after Memphis delayed his pass but had the confidence to continue his run before sliding to scoop the ball to the centre-forward.

Fosu-Mensah had another spot-kick claim refused by referee Scott Oldham at the start of the second half but it was soon 3-0 when Joe Crowe gifted possession to Memphis and he centred for Keane to take his time before almost apologetically lofting in his third of a productive night.

Keane set up the impressive Donald Love for a thumping drive over the top and number four duly arrived when Pereira's cross was handled by Ray Grant and Pereira tucked away the penalty himself, even if Keane has been the regular taker.

It did not stop Keane's thirst for more goals as, after Jones made way for Ro-Shaun Williams just before the hour mark, he produced a classic chip for a breathtaking goal - the undoubted pick of the seven. Romero had to push away a Grant free-kick but the rout continued unchecked. Fosu-Mensah sprinted clear from left-back to collect a Memphis through ball and finish calmly past Matthews for his first goal at this level and Keane expertly claimed his fifth following some lovely play by captain James Weir.

Keane threatened to make it a double hat-trick on a couple of occasions and Fosu-Mensah smashed a shot the wrong side of Matthews' left-hand post as United had to settle for seven and a resounding victory in front of 1,758 fans that narrows the gap on leaders Sunderland to a single point.

United: Romero; Love, McNair, Jones (Williams 58), Varela (Fosu-Mensah 35); Weir, Harrop; Januzaj, A.Pereira, Memphis; Keane. Subs not used: J.Pereira, Rothwell.

This match was broadcast live on MUTV and the channel will show it in full again at 23:00 on Monday and 07:00 and 11:00 on Tuesday (all times GMT).

Pemain muda yang dibajak United dari City berharap dimainkan nanti pas lawan City U-21.

El Fitouri's remarkable tale of two cities

Sadiq El Fitouri is hoping to be involved when Manchester United's Under-21s take on his former club Manchester City in tonight's derby at Leigh Sports Village, live on MUTV.

After leaving the Blues, the versatile Libyan defender rebuilt his career by impressing with Salford City and appeared in a recent BBC TV documentary about the non-league club co-owned by five Reds legends - Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes.

El Fitouri's route to United is a remarkable tale of perseverance and he is aiming to earn a second successive title winner's medal with Warren Joyce's shadow squad. After recovering from injury and making the bench for the defeat against Everton earlier this month, the 21-year-old is hoping to push on again.

He told ManUtd.com : "I got a knock after the internationals with Libya and it was disappointing to miss out on some games. Hopefully, now I'm fit, I can start week in and week out and see how it goes from there.

"United versus City is a big game in itself but it's particularly special for me as I played at City. It's one I am really looking forward to.

"Winning the league is what we're aiming for and hopefully we'll do it again this year. We train hard every day with Warren Joyce. His training is very intense but it works. We do a lot without the ball, closing down, focusing on our positioning and working together."

The Libya international has an interesting story to tell when it comes to how he ended up at United, just when his footballing career was at a crossroads.

El Fitouri revealed : "I was out of action for a year and a half after I left City because I was injured and couldn't get a club. It was the worst time to get injured, straight after being released.

"I was injured for four months but after that I just carried on training in the gym. I had to do it all myself but I sort of knew what to do from the time I had an injury at City.

"After 18 months without playing, I was starting to lose hope. But in December [2014], I phoned up Salford City and asked if I could train with them. They said 'Yes, come down' and I trained there for one month and played one game.

"Phil Neville was impressed and Paul Scholes too so they pulled me over to one side and said I could go to training at United the next day. Everyone knows who Neville and Scholes are and for them to have belief in me was really good.

"My trial at United lasted for a week and a half. During the first week, I remember I played an in-house game against Leicester. Warren was impressed and, a few days later, he said: 'Well done, I'd like to offer you a contract'. I thought it was all a dream as it happened so quickly."

El Fitouri's signing was announced on ManUtd.com at the end of the January 2015 transfer window and he went on to make four appearances, including a game against City at Old Trafford in May, as United's Under 21s closed out a successful season. So far this term he has played a further four times for the young Reds.

"I had to wait about a month or so before I made my Under-21 debut against Sunderland," El Fitouri recalled. "I'd had a lot of training and knew how the team worked and everything else so I felt ready. The lads welcomed me as if I had been here a long time and they're a good group."
