Superbly talented wild child Ravel Morrison scores a cracker for Manchester United reserves v Bolton

The star of Manchester United’s FA Youth Cup victory last season, Ravel Morrison, made his mark for the reserves on Thursday night with a 94th minute winner in a 1-0 win over Bolton.

Morrison is known for both his immense ability as well as his off the field troubles which have already been documented in the back pages and may well need some of Sir Alex Ferguson’s paternal mentoring.

The official Manchester United website have described the goal as “a jet-propelled strike,” “[Morrison] detonated an explosive, unstoppable drive,” and “a beauty.”

It’s a good goal, not necessarily great, but the hype around another highly-talented Man United youngster (which has been alive for some time) looks likely to continue, especially as he was only on the pitch for 21 minutes.

United's run of six successive wins at Reserves level ended with a 0-0 stalemate against Blackburn at Moss Lane.*

With former Rovers defender Phil Jones amongst the crowd, there was nothing to get too excited about although the Reds shaded matters after the break. In a flat first half, Nick Blackman forced an early save out of Ben Amos but there was precious little goalmouth action. Reece Brown went into the book for a late tackle on Daryll Goulon as neither side managed to gain the upper hand.

United's first real effort came after 24 minutes when Paul Pogba headed a Larnell Cole corner off target but Rovers came closest to a first-half goal when Bruno Ribeiro raided forward from right-back and cracked a shot from an improbable angle against the outside of Amos' right-hand post. It prompted a response from the Reds with Federico Macheda's shot easily fielded by Mark Bunn and the keeper coming off his line to save when Macheda had a heavy touch to a lovely through ball by Pogba. Goulon dragged a shot wide from outside the area but the referee called an end to a disappointing opening 45 minutes with the match still goalless.

Things picked up after the break as Mame Biram Diouf forced Bunn to come out to smother again while Sean McGinty's overhead kick worked the keeper, even if the offside flag was up. Although Michael Keane made one telling block to stifle a shot from Jordan Slew, the Reds continued to press. Grant Hanley made a saving tackle on Macheda following Davide Petrucci's fine through ball and the skipper then tried his luck himself from distance, only for Bunn to dive to his right to pull off a superb save.

It was Petrucci's final contribution before being substituted and his fellow countryman Macheda went close with a deflected shot wide on 68 minutes before ballooning a wild volley out of the stadium. Diouf climbed to head a Marnick Vermijl cross off target with time running out and Ravel Morrison came on as a late substitute but was unable to repeat his injury-time heroics at Bolton.

United came back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with Altrincham in a friendly at Moss Lane with goals from two players who were handed Barclays Premier League shirt numbers on Friday.

With the first team in action at Goodison, this fixture was a chance of a run-out for a number of players with Tomasz Kuszczak starting in goal.

The Pole was beaten after four minutes when Jack Redshaw converted a pass from ex-Red Michael Twiss. The impressive Redshaw then doubled the advantage with a side-foot finish following Simon Richman's pass .

Undaunted, the Reds battled back and scored before the break courtesy of Jesse Lingard's calm finish as the youngster rounded Adam Reid to find the net. Ravel Morrison, one of a raft of substitutes, levelled matters with a fine effort following a Lingard cross and Altrincham were forced to hold out for a draw.

Morrison was unlucky with a header and there were a few close shaves for the hosts but it finished 2-2.
