Rashford Ukir Rekor Baru Pada Debutnya

Pemain Lawan Tanggal lahir Tanggal Usia
Macheda Aston Villa 22/08/1991 05/04/2009 17thn 227hari
Welbeck Stoke City 26/11/1990 15/11/2008 17thn 354hari
Rashford Arsenal31/10/1997 28/02/2016 18thn 120hari
Rafael Arsenal 09/07/1990 08/11/2008 18thn 122hari
Wilson Hull City 01/12/1995 06/05/2014 18thn 157hari
Powell Wigan Ath 23/03/1994 15/09/2012 18thn 176hari

VAN GAAL: RASHFORD CAN HANDLE MEDIA GLARE

Louis van Gaal believes Manchester United’s breakout star Marcus Rashford has the personality to handle his overnight fame - but he would like the media to leave his striker in peace.

Rashford scored a memorable brace on his senior debut in the must-win Europa League tie against FC Midtjylland at Old Trafford. Incredibly, the 18-year-old bagged another clinical double against Arsenal on Sunday after retaining his starting place in the absence of the injured Anthony Martial.

The Academy graduate was named Man of the Match against the Gunners with 82 per cent of fans' votes on Twitter and he has since earned a nomination for the club’s Player of the Month award for February. It’s not bad, considering he was playing with the Under-18s just a few weeks ago.

Rashford will hope to feature again on Wednesday when Watford visit Old Trafford in the Barclays Premier League and van Gaal spoke positively about him during his pre-match press conference at the Aon Training Complex, though he admitted he would prefer the press not to go overboard.

“First, I think that the media have to leave him in peace,” van Gaal explained. “When you are in front of his house and that kind of stuff, I don’t think that is beneficial for a boy of 18 years old.

“Give him the time to be 18 years old, and we shall guide him also in that way. But he is a very modest guy, so I don’t think that shall be a problem. Of course, when you have so much attention from the media, it can go in another way. I believe he shall keep his feet on the ground.”

Van Gaal also spoke about his theatrical dive to the ground when remonstrating with the fourth official during the 3-2 win over Arsenal, reiterating his stance that should not have acted in that way out of respect for the refereeing team. While he maintains he was right to complain about the Gunners' behaviour on the pitch, the Dutchman insists he will not make a habit of entering the technical area.

“It is not a part of my philosophy, because I don’t think you can influence the game from that spot,” he told the press. “But I am not a clown; I am Louis van Gaal, I am a human being and a manager.

“The players have to think on the pitch and not the manager. Sometimes I help them with these actions but I help them more to train in the brain what I have said. I have trained them for 18 months and they are seeing the solutions on the pitch. I have experience that you cannot influence the game - the players are influencing the game by themselves.”

Default Re: Marcus Rashford

FROM STREET REDS TO STARDOM

Manchester-born Marcus Rashford has made a stunning start to his Reds career, hitting a brace on his debut against Midtjylland followed by another double in Sunday's 3-2 win over Arsenal, but when he’s not playing and training at the top level the 18-year-old can often be found at the Manchester United Foundation Street Reds programme, which he has attended since the age of 12.

Street Reds offers free football sessions and alternative activities to young people aged 8-18, with the opportunity to learn new skills and work towards qualifications in a supportive and positive environment.

Marcus began attending one of the projects in his hometown of Wythenshawe with friends and he still turns up to watch and catch up with fellow participants, despite becoming a first-team star.

Street Reds operates in association with the national Premier League Kicks Initiative and is delivered by dedicated Foundation coaches. Dave Chapman, who ran the Wythenshawe session when Marcus joined seven years ago, recognised early on that the striker had something special.

“He was very quiet, slight and unassuming, but you could see from the beginning that there was something there," said Dave. "At this point, he was already involved with the Manchester United Academy but we weren’t aware; he never mentioned it, he just turned up to play. You see players who play for clubs at the weekends and they turn up to evening sessions and just watch because they don’t want to get injured but Marcus was always fully involved. He wasn’t one for standing on the side and watching, the lure of the game was too much for him.

“In the eyes of his fellow participants he became a mini-superstar," added Dave. "They all wanted him on their five-a-side teams and it caused a few arguments when they were all trying to pick him, but it didn’t affect him. There were a lot of kids who looked up to him at the session, especially at that age, when you’re coming to a football session and there’s someone who stands out and is as good as Marcus, it commands attention and he became a bit of a leader in the group.”

Nick Bradshaw who currently runs one of the Wythenshawe sessions and has coached Marcus over the years continued: “I always remember him coming down on his bike – he was just a normal kid – and the fact he still goes to sessions and watches even now, just to be with his mates, keeps him rooted. He’s very grounded and I think that comes from his family as well. His brother used to help out at one of our partner primary schools too.”

Marcus continued to attend Street Reds despite training with the first team and Dave believes the social aspect of the programme has complemented his professional development.

“It was different at Street Reds, there was no pressure or expectation, he was just playing within himself, he was never a show-off, although he had the skills and little tricks he’d use within games which would make him stand out. I think socially and for his personal development it was a great programme for him in terms of meeting new people and integrating within groups.”

Regarding Rashford’s impressive senior bow against FC Midtjylland at Old Trafford, the coaches expressed their pride and delight for the former participant’s success.

“Any of our youngsters who come through the programmes and do well, whether in the sporting industry or through further education, you always have a sense of pride that somewhere along the line you’ve engaged with them, and you hope that in some way you’ve affected the way that they’ve developed,” said Nick.

Dave agreed, adding: “By no means are we saying that we’ve created this star footballer but I think what we have done through Street Reds is create an environment in which he was able to thrive and grow as a person and the fact that he’s still going now, 7/8 years later, speaks volumes for the standard of the coaches who have worked with him over the years and the environment that’s been created for him.”

Street Reds operates at 11 locations across Greater Manchester and sessions are free for 8 to 18-year-olds, offering football coaching and alternative activities. For session times and to find out more visit www.mufoundation.org/streetreds

Default Re: Marcus Rashford

Don't make Marcus Rashford the first £2m six-year-old... Manchester United made him a star, not Fletcher Moss Rangers

* Marcus Rashford joined Fletcher Moss Rangers at the age of five
* He joined Manchester United's academy two years later
* Danny Welbeck, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Wes Brown and Tyler Blackett are also former players
* While United owe Fletcher Moss gratitude, talk of a £2million donation for services rendered is quite ridiculous
* If United start handing out £2m for six-year-olds, where does that end?

Marcus Rashford joined Fletcher Moss Rangers at the age of five and Manchester United’s academy at the age of seven, so it’s fair to assume he has come on a bit since then. It is also rather probable that, like the club’s other graduates Danny Welbeck, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Wes Brown and Tyler Blackett, Rashford did not land on United’s doorstep with his skill set fully formed.

Fletcher Moss are a good youth club but they are not about the end product. Welbeck and Blackett were eight when they arrived at Manchester United’s academy, Borthwick-Jackson was six. Brown must have been a late developer. He was 12 before United spotted him. Fletcher Moss may be where these boys started but Manchester United is where they were finished.

Football clubs are into young players extraordinarily early these days. Everyone in the Under 11 district team is training with somebody. That’s why when old club photographs of these kids emerge they are always little dots. You don’t tend to see pictures of England internationals as strapping 15-year-olds on parks pitches anymore. By then, they are long gone to the world of professional coaches and surfaces like a living-room carpet.

Marcus Rashford scored four goals for Manchester United during a remarkable week

So while Manchester United owe Fletcher Moss a debt of thanks and maybe the odd solidarity payment in good faith and to keep the production line going, the club’s talk of a £2million donation for services rendered is quite ridiculous.

‘We are not asking for the earth,’ said Ron Jamieson, Fletcher Moss secretary. ‘They have had plenty out of us. They got £16m for Welbeck — and it didn’t cost £16m to bring him in, did it? They just take, take, take and we never get anything back. So £2m is not a lot to someone like them.’

Actually, it is. If Manchester United start handing out £2m for six-year-olds, where does that end? The queue of local clubs demanding a seven-figure cheque will stretch from the Old Trafford car park to the centre of town. What do Ridgeway Rovers deserve for David Beckham, then, or Langley Furrows for Paul Scholes?

Jamieson says that Fletcher Moss struggle to meet annual running costs of £10,000, and it is £6,000 per year to lease playing fields for their 17 youth teams. This is certainly something Manchester United could help with — but where does he get £2m?

Jamieson is talking six new changing rooms, a new pavilion with a communal room to rent out for functions, plus floodlights and 3G pitches. Manchester United have their own facilities and buildings for that. What they need Fletcher Moss to do is give a few six-year-olds a game, get them started with the right habits, and they’ll take it from there. No doubt John Lennon’s primary school music teacher did her bit with the recorder and triangle but she’s not due a cut of the White Album

Jamieson talks as if Fletcher Moss delivered a £16m player to Manchester United in Welbeck. They didn’t. They introduced a promising eight-year-old to the game, Manchester United identified his talent and with specialist knowledge and expertise turned him into England’s centre forward.

Fletcher Moss is clearly a great little club and if Manchester United are sensible they will ensure it continues to thrive. Yet professional football does not owe the grassroots game a living and the clubs certainly do not take, take, take. They educate, they nurture, they develop. They drive the Marcus Rashfords on in a way that is beyond the decent volunteers of Sunday morning.

Anyway, surely the joy of youth football is the innocent pleasure of watching these little boys grow into men and to see some, like Rashford, achieve their wildest dreams. If all that becomes is just another financial calculation, it really is no better than the professional game.

Marcus Rashford will keep his feet on the ground - everyone will guide him at Manchester United, says Louis van Gaal

* Marcus Rashford burst on to the scene at Manchester United last week
* The 18-year-old scored four goals in two matches for the Red Devils
* Rashford is in contention to start at home to Watford on Wednesday night

Louis van Gaal believes Marcus Rashford's feet will remain firmly on the ground despite the whirlwind of publicity whipped up by his sensational breakthrough at Manchester United.

Rashford, 18, has scored four goals in his first two games for United's first team against Midtjylland and Arsenal, and is in contention to lead the line against Watford at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Van Gaal insists the teenage striker is level-headed enough to take it all in his stride, but warned that he still has to demonstrate consistency as he embarks on a promising career.

Teenage striker Marcus Rashford has scored four goals in his first two matches for Manchester United

'We shall guide him,' said Van Gaal. 'He's a very modest guy so I don't think it will be a problem.

'When you have so much media attention it can go another way. I believe he will keep his feet on the ground.

'The older players shall guide Marcus Rashford. Too much attention is not always easy to deal with.

'Give him the time to be 18-years-old. It's remarkable and I can understand that you are praising him, but he has to show his consistency.'

Rashford's place in the team is not guaranteed with Anthony Martial expected to return to the squad after a hamstring strain. Defenders Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling could also be back against Watford as United face their fourth game in 10 days looking to close a three-point gap on the top-four.

'Players are coming back and it is positive,' added Van Gaal. 'I think Martial can play, Darmian can play and maybe Smalling – we'll wait and see for tomorrow.

'This is a very difficult programme for us because we have to recover within two days for the second time. It's a very difficult game to play for the players. Watford have one day more and Arsenal had two days more.

'We have a small selection. I cannot rotate too much or never this season. It is not easy to continue but I feel that the players are doing everything to recover. They are taking ice baths which some have never done. I hope they can continue.'

Marcus Rashford was a 'mini-superstar' of local youth team but didn't tell anyone he was on the books at Manchester United

* Marcus Rashford was an icon at United's Street Reds programme
* The 18-year-old Old Trafford sensation stood out even as an 11-year-old
* The teenager never played the star and kept his academy status very quiet

Marcus Rashford was only 11 years old but already had become a ‘mini-superstar’ in Wythenshawe destined for Premier League acclaim.

The teenager has enjoyed a scintillating week, scoring four goals in his first two starts as a Manchester United player and smashing records in the process.

That prowess was evident years previous when Rashford - a quiet, unassuming character - began going along on his bike to the club’s Street Reds foundation programme, which he still visits today to catch up with old friends.

Manchester United starlet Marcus Rashford poses with the Premier League trophy as a youngster

Foundation coach Dave Chapman was one of the first to come across the striker, now 18, in south Manchester.

‘You could see from the beginning that there was something there,’ he said.

‘At this point, he was already involved with the Manchester United Academy but we weren’t aware; he never mentioned it, he just turned up to play.

‘You see players who play for clubs at the weekends and they turn up to evening sessions and just watch because they don’t want to get injured but Marcus was always fully involved.

‘He wasn’t one for standing on the side and watching, the lure of the game was too much for him.

‘In the eyes of his fellow participants he became a mini-superstar. They all wanted him on their five-a-side teams and it caused a few arguments when they were all trying to pick him, but it didn’t affect him.’

Rashford has become an overnight sensation, now with the added burden of role model status. Yet he has always retained leadership qualities according to Chapman.

Street Reds promotes learning in a football environment, with the foundation helping kids work towards future qualifications. The scheme is designed for youngsters exactly like Rashford across the city.

‘There were a lot of kids who looked up to him at the session, especially at that age, when you’re coming to a football session and there’s someone who stands out and is as good as Marcus, it commands attention and he became a bit of a leader in the group,' Chapman added.

‘There was no pressure or expectation, he was just playing within himself, he was never a show-off, although he had the skills and little tricks he’d use within games which would make him stand out.

‘I think socially and for his personal development it was a great programme for him in terms of meeting new people and integrating within groups.'
