Manchester United 2-1 West Ham: Player Ratings


Manchester United secured their second Premier League victory of the season thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win over West Ham at Old Trafford. However, the victory was soured by a red card to captain Wayne Rooney, who will now miss the Red Devils’ next three matches.

It was the England skipper who opened the scoring for the hosts in the opening minutes, before Robin van Persie doubled United’s advantage with a similarly smart finish.

Diafra Sakho’s header pulled a goal back for the Hammers and set up an intriguing second half, which saw Rooney shown a deserved red card for kicking Stewart Downing.

Despite their man disadvantage, however, United clung on to secure a much-needed three points.

David de Gea: 6

Made the mistake for West Ham’s goal, but made amends with a fantastic point-blank save in the second half. The Spaniard’s form remains a slight concern for Louis van Gaal.

Rafael: 7

Excellent display after last weekend’s horror show at Leicester City. The Brazilian set up Rooney with a fine cross for United’s opener and bombed up and down the right flank all afternoon.

Paddy McNair: 7

The 19-year-old was thrown into the deep end this afternoon, but coped admirably on his first senior start. McNair was confident enough to carry the ball from defence and even order his teammates about. Made a superb headed clearance in the second half. Van Gaal’s gamble paid off.

Marcos Rojo: 6

Took some stick after last weekend’s performance, but did reasonably well today. Nevertheless, doubts persist over whether he’s good enough to hold down one of the two centre-back positions at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw: 7

Good defensively and very impressive when carrying the ball at speed down the left wing. The £27 million summer signing could make a big difference for United over the coming weeks and months.

Daley Blind: 6

Tidy in possession - he always makes the right decision with the ball at his feet - but not the most physical or mobile of defensive midfielders. A solid, if unspectacular, performance.

Ander Herrera: 6

Won the tackle that resulted in United scoring their second goal. A typically energetic performance from the Spaniard, who was subbed off in the second half with an injury.

Angel di Maria: 6

Typically bright and willing to carry the ball, but this was Di Maria’s most disappointing performance since he completed his £59.7 million move from Real Madrid.

Wayne Rooney: 5

Scored a lovely goal in the early stages of the match and was probably Manchester United’s best player in the first half. However, the captain let his team down with the needless red card and will now miss the Red Devils’ next three fixtures against Everton, West Brom and Chelsea.

Robin van Persie: 6

Van Persie’s link-up play and work ethic was much better this afternoon. Scored his 50th Manchester United goal with a smart finish.

Radamel Falcao: 5

Difficult afternoon for the Colombia international, who was on the periphery of the game all afternoon. He did, however, produce the assist which led to Van Persie scoring. Subbed midway through the second half after United were reduced to ten men.

Kalau kata MEN sih setidaknya ada beberapa hal positif yang didapat dari hasil 2-1 lawan WHU kemarin, ada beberapa yang nubie setuju ada yang tidak juga.

Yang setuju ya termasuk diantaranya kegemilangan debutan yang bermain di match tersebut, McNair + Shaw. Keduanya cukup menjanjikan, setidaknya ada harapan mereka akan terus berkembang dibawah asuhan LvG musim ini. Berikutnya mengenai semangat juang mempertahankan hasil yang sudah didapat, dengan menutup mata terhadap sistem atau kemampuan yang terbatas, semangat United bertahan dengan kondisi hampir dititik nadir (bermain 10 orang dengan kemungkinan terburuk yaitu kapten mereka yang dikartu merah) tidak bisa dipandang sebelah mata. Mereka masih punya semangat United itu, pertahankan dan tingkatkan terus masa depan yang lebih baik semoga tidak lama lagi..
