Lahm Kapten Tim Jerman

Berlin - Pelatih Joachim Loew menunjuk Philipp Lahm sebagai kapten tim Jerman di Piala Dunia 2010. Bek Bayern Munich ini menggantikan posisi Michael Ballack yang absen karena cedera.

Lahm merupakan pemain Jerman yang juga pernah mperkuatr Der Panzer di Piala Dunia 2006. Bek kanan berusia 26 tahun ini telah mengantongi 64 caps dan juga telah menyumbangkan tiga gol bagi tim Jerman.

Hal tampaknya yang menjadi pertimbangkan Loew memilih Lahm karena faktor pengalamannya. "Lahm bermain di posisinya dengan kelas tinggi dan akan mengambil alih peran kapten," ungkap pelatih Jerman ini seperti dilansir Reuters.

Sementara Bastian Schweinsteiger diminta untuk membantu Lahm sebagai wakil kapten tim Jerman. Loew juga telah memilih Manuel Neuer kiper utama mereka saat tampil di Afrika Selatan nanti.

"Bastian Schweinsteiger, di lapangan, akan memainkan peran Ballack dan menafsikarkan caranya. Sedangkan Philipp Lahm akan menjadi kapten, Schweinsteiger akan menjadi wakil kapte, " kata Loew.

"Kami telah memutuskan Neuer di Piala Dunia ini dan dia akan berada di bawah gawang menghadapi Hungaria di laga ujicoba besok. Ini keputusan sulit karena Wiese sangat baik di musim ini dan Butt tampil di final Liga Champions," ujarnya.

Menysul absennya Ballack dan Christian Traesch, kini Jerman hanya memiliki 25 pemain. Namun Loew mengatakan bahwa dia tidak ingin terburu-buru menentukan ke-23 skuadnya dan itu akan dilakukan saat mendekati deadline 1 Juni nanti.

"Saya akan mengambil keputusan hanya saat saya benar benar sduah harus melakukannya karena saya ingin tetap mempertahankan opsi tetap terbuka dan pemain selalu dapat saja mendapatkan cedera," pungkasnya.

KLAGENFURT - Stand-in Serbia captain Nemanja Vidic had to appeal for calm over the microphone as his country's fans rioted during the second-half of a 1-0 World Cup warm-up defeat by New Zealand on Saturday.

Around 10,000 Serbia fans, mostly expatriates living in Austria, attended the match and trouble erupted in the second half when they threw burning flares, bottles and missiles on to the pitch.

Several of them then invaded the turf and had to be dragged away by security before Vidic, deputising as skipper for Dejan Stankovic, stepped in to urge calm as the match officials and New Zealand's players were getting ready to walk off.

The match was held up for several minutes before restarting.

The ugly scenes compounded a miserable afternoon for Serbia, whose experimental line-up was bereft of pace and ideas.

New Zealand, in contrast, stuck to their trademark hardworking approach and it paid dividends when Shane Smeltz scored the only goal in the 22nd minute.

The striker took a long ball into his stride and easily beat right back Antonio Rukavina, one of Serbia's second-choice starters who disappointed, before he steered a low shot into the bottom right corner.

The Kiwis came close to doubling their lead only three minutes later, when Rory Fallon saw a thunderous shot parried after he was set up by Smeltz.

Serbia improved after the break as Zoran Tosic made several darting runs on the left wing but his good performance was the only positive that coach Radomir Antic can take from an afternoon he will quickly want to forget.

The Serbians play Poland in Kufstein on Wednesday in the other match of their build-up in Austria and take on Cameroon in Belgrade on June 5 in their final warm-up before they depart for the month-long World Cup finals in South Africa.

Serbia are in Group D along with Germany, Australia and Ghana while New Zealand contest Group F with Italy, Paraguay and Slovakia.

Westermann out of World Cup

BERLIN - Germany suffered a further injury blow ahead of the World Cup on Sunday when defender Heiko Westermann was ruled out of the tournament with a foot injury.

The German team said Westermann had fractured a bone in his foot at the end of Saturday's 3-0 win over Hungary.

The Schalke 04 player, who has won 19 caps, is a defender but could have provided cover in midfield following the injuries to Michael Ballack and Christian Traesch - who have both been ruled out.

"Naturally I am devastated because it was my big goal to take part in the World Cup," said Westermann. "I felt fully fit but now the only thing left for me to do is to wish the team all the best at the tournament."

Germany coach Joachim Low, who now has only 24 fit players left from his preliminary 27-man squad, said Westermann's versatility would have been needed in South Africa,

The 26-year-old is also a good option for set pieces and often scores with powerful headers.

Low will have to cut his squad to 23 players by June 1 before the team travels to South Africa on June 6 for the tournament starting five days later.

"Heiko would have played a very important role at the world Cup for our team. That is because of his multi-faceted play. In training he was in superb physical condition," Low said.

The coach, who had picked six strikers for his preliminary squad and had said all of them would travel to South Africa, could now be forced to sacrifice one of them to allow his team to have more options in midfield.

Stefan Kiessling, the Bundesliga's second best scorer, was left on the bench against Hungary, with Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski guaranteed a spot on the World Cup team despite a slump in form.

Strikers Cacau and Thomas Muller are in top form at the moment while Mario Gomez was on target against Hungary.

Low could opt to leave left-back Marcell Jansen behind, battling to regain fitness after an ankle injury late in the season.

Germany have been drawn in Group D alongside Serbia, Australia and Ghana.

Klagenfurt - Kekalahan di tangan Selandia Baru rupanya cukup menggelisahkan Serbia. Nemanja Vidic mencoba menenangkan bangsanya dan berharap performa timnya akan membaik di putaran final.

Serbia dipukul 0-1 oleh Selandia Baru di pertandingan ujicoba yang digelar di Klagenfurt, Austria, 29 Mei silam. Segelintir pendukung Serbia di sana pun sempat meluapkan rasa kesalnya kepada Vidic dkk dengan menyerbu lapangan di tengah pertandingan.

Hasil buruk itu membuat keraguan terhadap Serbia menyeruak. Vidic yang dalam pertandingan kontra Selandia Baru menjabat kapten membantah Beli Orlovi alias 'Elang Putih' belum siap.

"Saya percaya tidak perlu ada kekhawatiran karena ada cukup waktu untuk meletakkan semua hal di tempatnya," ceplos Vidic seperti yang dikutip Sky Sports.

Sejatinya, Serbia punya modal tidak main-main untuk merebut tiket ke Afrika Selatan 2010. Pecahan Yugoslavia itu jadi juara Grup 7 dengan mengungguli mantan juara dunia Prancis.

"Kami sudah bekerja keras untuk lolos ke turnamen ini dan yakin dua pertandingan ke depan akan lebih baik," imbuh bek Manchester United itu tentang dua laga Serbia menghadapi Polandia dan Kamerun.

"Pelatih (Radomir Antic) pasti akan mencoba beberapa formasi lagi dan memberi kesempatan pada para pemain. Dari semua pertandingan persiapan ini, target kami adalah di Afrika Selatan," tegas bek 28 tahun itu.
