Robin van Persie's Manchester United go head-to-head with Luis Suarez and Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday and the two are likely to do battle in the end of season awards, but who is the better player and who adds the most to their team? Sportsmail looks at the Opta stats to decide.

Goals:
The stats between the two are very close. Robin van Persie has 20 goals in 26 games and Luis Suarez has two less in the same amount of games. The number of games in which Suarez scored his goals was 14 whereas Van Persie’s 20 strikes have come in 15 different games. Van Persie averages a goal every 98.8 minutes on the pitch, while Suarez averages a goal in just over 18 minutes more at 117.2 minutes.

Both strikers are dangerous in the box, but when it comes to shots, Suarez comes out on top. So far this season the Uruguayan has had 113 shots on goal compared to the 75 by Van Persie. But when it comes to accuracy, 50.7 per cent of Van Persie’s shots are on target and 46.9 per cent of Suarez’s are on goal.

When it comes to creating goals for their team mates, there is one stand out performer, Robin van Persie. The Dutchman has created six goals for his team-mates, whereas Suarez has created three.

Both players are incredibly important to their sides. But the impact Van Persie has on Manchester United has been huge, if you take him out of the United team this season and scrap his goals and assists in Premier League games then United would be 27 points worse off. Suarez makes a difference as well, but take him out of the Liverpool team and they would be 12 points worse off than they are now.

Dribbling:
Suarez's low centre of gravity gives him the edge in the dribbling department. The tricky Uruguyan confounds defenders with dizzying hip twists and changes of direction. Van Persie is no slouch, as demonstrated by his superb turn against Sunderland before he assisted Wayne Rooney’s goal.* But if you want to leave a trail of bamboozled opponents in your wake, Suarez is the only choice.

Running men: Suarez is a better dribbler, but Van Persie is not bad



Coach’s dream or nightmare:
Ask any coach and they would happily have either player in their starting XI, so in that respect both players are a dream. But Suarez controversy off the pitch and accusations on it of diving and handball claims on it make him slightly more work. But for what he adds to the team, Liverpool have no issues with him. Since Van Persie’s move to Manchester United he has caused no issues and has added a huge amount to the team.

Van Persie comes out on top in the comparisons, but Suarez is not far behind and clearly a very important player for Liverpool.
