Reds set for crunch qualifiers This international break is as much characterised by the number of Reds not playing as those fighting for the final World Cup qualification places for next summer's tournament in South Africa. For various reasons, Edwin van der Sar, Ben Foster, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Owen Hargreaves, Darren Fletcher, Gabriel Obertan, Michael Owen, Tomasz Kuszczak have stayed behind. For those whose nations have already qualified, this is a time to impress and help cement a place in the squad for the World Cup place, while more pressingly, it's an anxious few days for those who still have not ensured a ticket to South Africa. Portugal are right up against it going into two final games at home against Hungary and Malta. They're in third place in their group, two points behind Sweden and five adrift of leaders Denmark. Qualifying for the play-offs seems like their only realistic hope, and Nani will hope to help fire Carlos Queiroz's side to South Africa. With two matches to play in Group Seven, Patrice Evra and France look set to miss out on top spot as they trail the leaders, Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic's Serbia, by four points. Les bleus face minnows the Faroe Islands on Saturday and Austria - four points behind them in third place - on Wednesday. Serbia play Romania on Saturday and Lithuania on Wednesday in their final two qualifiers. John O'Shea and Darron Gibson are both in the Republic of Ireland squad for their crunch matches with Italy this weekend and Montenegro next week. Four points behind the Italians, Giovanni Trapattoni is boldly trying to topple his home nation from the top spot. A 2-0 defeat in the same group last time out for Dimitar Berbatov and Bulgaria means they need two wins from games with Cyprus and Georgia, whilst hoping the Irish seriously stumble. In South America, Antonio Valencia was influential and scored in Ecuador's 3-1 win over Bolivia last time out, which moved them into fourth and final qualifying spot ahead of matches against Uruguay and third-placed Chile. With Argentina just a point behind and several others on Diego Maradon's coat-tails, it's do or die for Valencia and co. Anderson misses out for Brazil against Bolivia and Venezuela. Despite already having qualified, coach Dunga has stuck largely with the squad that sent them to the top of the South American qualifying table. Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wes Brown are aiming to maintain the 100 per cent set by Fabio Capello's England side when they face Ukraine and Belarus. England have already qualified for South Africa. Jonny Evans will be in action for Northern Ireland's final match against Czech Republic on Wednesday. Although qualification is mathematically possible, they're counting on miraculous results elsewhere. For Ji-sung Park, Korea Republic have already booked their place in South Africa, but he's likely to play in this weekend's friendly against Senegal. And finally, Darren Fletcher won't be joining Ji-sung in that part of the world as he pulled out of Scotland's friendly with Japan on Saturday through injury. The Scots, of course, have already failed to qualify. |

International bright young things
Posted by nickogs20 on October 9, 2009 As large numbers of the senior squad head off on World Cup qualifying duty for the last time this cycle, there’s the usual slew of callups for the youngsters at United, including a surprising first Northern Ireland callup for English-born Joe Dudgeon England U21 Who: Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Macedonia home (9/10/09, Coventry) More Info: Cleverley has continued to impress and will be pushing for a starting place and third cap, but tough competition for places may mean Welbeck (looking for a 4th cap) has to make do with a place on the bench. Northern Ireland U21 Who: Craig Cathcart, Joe Dudgeon and Corry Evans When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Iceland away (13/10/09, Reyjkavik) More Info: Cathcart and Evans have 12 and 6 caps respectively. The surprise is the call-up of Leeds-born Dudgeon, who seems to have followed Ollie Norwood’s lead and pledged his allegiance to Northern Ireland. Norwood himself misses out as FIFA still haven’t given clearance for him to play for NI competitively (required because he represented England competitively at U17 level). Scotland U21 Who: David Gray When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Belarus home (10/10/09, St Mirren) More Info: Gray looking for his second cap, the first coming nearly 11 months ago. Italy U21 Who: Federico Macheda When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Bosnia and Herzegovina home (13/10/09, Mantova) More Info: Macheda still included despite Casiraghi’s criticism last month, although faces competition from Balotelli and Paloschi for a striking place. Serbia U21 Who: Adem Ljajić When/Where: UEFA Euro U21 Qualifier vs Cyprus home (9/10/09, Vojvodina), Croatia away (13/10/09, Varazdin) England U19 Who: Reece Brown, Cameron Stewart When/Where: UEFA Euro U19 First Qualifying Round vs Slovenia, Finland and Slovakia (9-14/10/09, Slovenia) More Info: Both players were capped for the first time at this level last month. Matt James, who captained the side on that occasion, isn’t present due to his exertions with the U20s at the World Cup. Northern Ireland U19 Who: Conor Devlin When/Where: UEFA Euro U19 First Qualifying Round vs Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Iceland (7-12/10/09, Bosnia) More Info: Ollie Norwood was originally included but had to withdraw for the same reason as stated above for the U21s. Also in the squad is Chris Curran, released by United in the symmer and recently signed by Forest Green Rovers. England U17 Who: Sam Johnstone, Will Keane, Ravel Morrison, Tom Thorpe When/Where: UEFA Euro U17 First Qualifying Round vs Azerbaijan, Serbia, Kazakhstan (26-31/10/09, Baku, Azerbaijan) More Info: The games don’t take place this international break, but we’ll include it in here anyway. These four were a big part of last year’s U16 squad for the Victory Shield and have all moved up to the next level. England U16 Who: Tyler Blackett, Luke Hendrie When/Where: Victory Shield opener vs Wales home (15/10/09, Yeovil) More Info: Key parts of United’s U16 side, Kenny Swain has handed defender Blackett and midfielder Hendrie their first U16 callups for the first of three matches against the other home nations in the 2009 Victory Shield. Vidic joins World Cup party Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic's Serbia are the latest 'United Nation' to qualify automatically for South Africa 2010 - at the expense of Patrice Evra's France. As Group 7 leaders in Europe, the Serbs confirmed their likely passage to the World Cup finals in emphatic style on Saturday, hammering Romania 5-0. Vidic played for 73 minutes while Tosic was an unused substitute. The French also won 5-0, against the Faroe Islands, to confirm their runners-up spot. Evra completed the 90 minutes and can now plan for the play-offs in November. Nani is another United player pinning his World Cup hopes on the play-offs, after Portugal's group was won by Denmark at the weekend. The Portuguese beat Hungary 3-0 in Lisbon - despite Cristiano Ronaldo limping off after 15 minutes - and will definitely enter November's knock-out phase if they overcome Malta on Wednesday. The play-offs beckon for John O'Shea and the Republic of Ireland, following their impressive - but ultimately disappointing - 2-2 draw with the reigning world champions in Dublin. The Irish twice led in the match and when Sean St Ledger put them 2-1 up in the 87th minute, they seemed all set to cut Italy's lead in Group 8 to one point with one game remaining. However, Alberto Gilardino's last-gasp leveller ensured the Azzurri's automatic berth and a play-off place for O'Shea, Darron Gibson and their compatriots. Bulgaria's chances of overtaking the Irish were wiped out in Cyprus, despite Dimitar Berbatov finding the net. His strike on the brink of half-time turned out to be a mere consolation goal in a demoralising 4-1 defeat. Antonio Valencia was the other United man to score at the weekend but like Berba, he was on the losing side too. Ecuador are now in danger of missing the World Cup after losing 2-1 at home to Uruguay, courtesy of Diego Forlan's injury-time penalty. Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney also suffered a defeat, losing 0-1 with the already-qualified England in Ukraine. Their cause wasn't helped by West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green being sent off in the 13th minute. _________________________________________ Berbatov score but Bulgaria disikat Cyprus 4-1 ... Re: Punggawa United - tour of duty ... :)
ini berita lengkapnyaa.....
ayo, Foster.. tunjukkan merahmu.... ========== Foster drafted into England squad news.bbc.co.uk England have called up Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster for Wednesday's final World Cup qualifying match against Belarus at Wembley. The 26-year-old has been added to the squad because Robert Green is suspended following his sending-off in Saturday's 1-0 defeat away against the Ukraine. Foster was omitted from the initial squad because of bruising to his ribs but has now been passed fit. England had already secured qualification prior to Saturday's loss. They had won their previous eight matches and were targeting a 100% record in Group Six. But Sergiy Nazarenko's deflected shot after 29 minutes gave Ukraine victory in Dnipro after Green had seen red for fouling Artem Milevskiy on 13 minutes. Foster has started all eight of United's Premier League matches this season in the absence of injured first-choice Edwin van der Sar but has come under scrutiny for some of his performances. He was at fault for Gareth Barry's goal in the 4-3 derby victory over Manchester City and allowed Kenwyne Jones to beat him to a high ball and score as Sunderland drew 2-2 at Old Trafford in United's last league outing. Dutchman Van der Sar, who set a British top-flight record by going 1,311 minutes without conceding last season, is likely to return to the United starting line-up against on 17 October. Foster, meanwhile, is unlikely to add to his two caps on Wednesday, with David James set to start in goal. The Portsmouth player came on against Ukraine following Green's dismissal, with Aaron Lennon making way. |

Re: Punggawa United - tour of duty ... :)
Green Dihukum, Foster Dipanggil Capello
Foster awalnya gagal masuk the Three Lions karena diberitakan cedera tulang rusuk saat melawan Sunderland pekan lalu. |
