Liverpool In Talks to Complete Ambitious Deal to Sign Barcelona Striker David Villa

Liverpool and Juventus are monitoring David Villa’s situation at Barcelona.

Anfield side keen on Spanish international hotshot. Kenny Dalglish looks to improve his attacking options as he makes ambitious plans to land Barcelona star.

Cadena Ser says Juve and Liverpool have already been in contact with Villa’s camp and will watch closely his recovery with the view to making offers for the striker this summer.

SOURCE: Cadena Ser via Yahoo

Liverpool could well do with alternative attacking options and though a move for Barcelona striker David Villa doesn’t conform to the Anfield club’s push for a more youthful transfer policy the Spanish international is clearly the type of player who is worth trying to bring in.

The 30 year old forward has been out with a lengthy injury and was not in the best of form prior to being sidelined and even though the former Valencia man is not the same player he was in his pomp he could still be a very useful signing who Kenny Dalglish would no doubt consider as a strike partner for Luis Suarez.

Villa notched up 129 goals in 212 games for Valencia before his move to the Nou Camp in the summer of 2010 and though considered as something of a failure at the Catalan club the Spanish national team record goalscorer has still managed a very healthy total of 32 goals from 76 appearances.

With Andy Carroll failing to make an impact and with Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy arguably working better in wide roles a move for Villa would be a wise one to consider though perhaps he would opt for a move to Juventus given there rise to prominence this term.

Default Newcastle Sneaking Away with Arsenal Target? Newcastle Sneaking Away with Arsenal Ta

Newcastle United to Steal £10m Arsenal Target from Under Their Noses

St James’ Park boss steals a march on Emirates Stadium manager in the race for top defensive target.

Toon boss Pardew steals march on rivals with personal check on Vertonghen

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew made a personal check-up on prime transfer target Jan Vertonghen in Ajax’s weekend win in Holland.

The Dutch club’s star defender and captain is high on the wish list of many of Europe’s top clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester City, and is likely to cost around £10million this summer.

Pardew, though, has attempted to steal a march on his rivals by taking his seat in the stands at the Amsterdam Arena as Ajax beat Graafschap 3-1.

SOURCE: Daily Mail

This is a fairly wise move on a number of levels. Newcastle United could do with another solid defensive option to play alongside Fabricio Coloccini and Jan Vertonghen may prefer a move to St James’ Park as he may feel that regular first team football could be hard to come by at the Emirates Stadium.

Though Mike Williamson has been relatively solid this term the Belgian defender would be a better quality player to put alongside Coloccini, and the fact that Steven Taylor has struggled with injuries over recent seasons there is all the more reason to look to strengthen at the back.

Though Vertonghen can play as a defensive midfielder he is still far better suited to a central defensive role and with Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny forming a solid pairing at the heart of the Gunners defence, one does wonder where the Ajax captain would fit in. You would also have to take into account German international Per Mertesacker, who though currently sidelined, did only arrive at the club last summer.

A move to join the Magpies is now a far more healthy proposition after an excellent season this term, that will secure European football for next term.

Default Liverpool, Porto Court Colombia Striker

Liverpool eye Colombia striker Martinez

Liverpool face competition from Portuguese Liga side Porto to sign Colombian international striker Jackson Martinez.

Martinez, 25, described a move to Anfield as a "good option" in March and although he is still keen on a move to the Premier League club, Porto have also registered an interest.

The striker, who has scored 17 goals in 31 league appearances for Mexican side Jaguares this season, is expected to make a £6 million move to Europe in the summer and hopes to finalise a deal in the next few months.

Martinez told Colombian newspaper Nuevo Estadio: "I am not in any advanced negotiations with Liverpool or Porto but I know they are personally interested.

"I have not spoken to anyone and that goes for my club and my agent. In the next few months things should be finalised."

Liverpool scouts have reportedly watched the former Medellin forward on a number of occasions.

Default Arsenal, Liverpool Target Chelsea Star

Arsenal & Liverpool among '12 leading clubs' targeting Chelsea star Kalou

Revitalised Ivory Coast international will hold fresh contract talks with senior Stamford Bridge officials within weeks as his future remains up in the air

Salomon Kalou has attracted interest from a dozen leading clubs in England and on the Continent, including Liverpool and Arsenal, while his Chelsea future remains up in the air, Goal.com has learned.

The Ivory Coast international can leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Sources have told Goal.com that Kalou wants to stay in the Premier League, where his admirers include Liverpool and Arsenal, but his contract talks are also being closely monitored by clubs from Italy, Spain and Turkey.

"More than 12 leading clubs are closely monitoring his contract talks," one insider said.

Kalou, who is available to be selected in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona on Wednesday night, has been given a new lease of life at Chelsea under Roberto Di Matteo after being sidelined by previous manager Andre Villas-Boas for rejecting the new four-year deal, believed to be on the same £80,000-a-week terms as his current agreement, that he was offered last September.

He was selected in the starting XI for the first two games under the Portuguese back in August but then made only two more starts for Chelsea in the next seven months.

Since being recalled to the team by Di Matteo, who picked him for the opening match of his tenure, a 3-0 FA Cup win at Birmingham City on March 6, Kalou has been involved in all eight of Chelsea’s Premier League and FA Cup matches. He also featured for all but eight minutes of the two-legged Champions League quarter-final triumph over Benfica.

It is believed that the forward and his agent, Jan de Visser, will sit down with Chelsea officials within the next few weeks to discuss an improved contract.

Kalou has been publicly coy about his future but, after scoring the winner in the 1-0 win over Benfica last month, said he is keen to remain at Chelsea.

"I enjoy being here," he said. "There is no reason why I don’t want to stay. Robbie has come in and given me the chance to play more and I’m very happy with that.

"I never think there is no way I shouldn’t have a future at the club."

Default Gossip Roundup: M'Vila Used as Bait & More

World Football Gossip Roundup: Fabio, M'Vila, Maxi Lopez, Drogba, Vertonghen

In today's B/R world football gossip roundup, Fabio is all but gone at Manchester United, Yann M'Vila is used as coach bait and Brendan Rodgers is Spurs' Plan B.

Elsewhere, Maxi Lopez wants to stay with AC Milan, Nicolas Anelka wants Didier Drogba in China, Newcastle want Jan Vertonghen (or maybe they don't) and two big European clubs want a Colombian striker (according to the Colombian striker).

All that and more inside. Keep reading for the details.

Fabio Agent Confirms Loan

The agent of Manchester United's Fabio says the defender will likely join Benfica on loan this summer. Fabio will reportedly be involved in a deal to bring Nicolas Gaitan to Old Trafford.

From The Telegraph:

Fabio has been told he will go out on loan for a season by Sir Alex Ferguson and has been ear-marked as Benfica’s first-choice left-back. It has been a problem position for the Portuguese club all season and they are pushing to sign Fabio on a permanent basis.

His agent Cassiano Pereira said on Monday: “There is a high possibility that Fabio will go to Benfica. Alex Ferguson has talked with me and Fabio about this possibility and the next two or three weeks we should know our position.”

The report says Manchester United will also move Anderson this summer, though a destination was not listed.

M'Vila and Blanc to Inter?

Arsenal target Yann M'Vila is wanted by Inter Milan, who hope to lure manager Laurent Blanc to the San Siro this summer.

Blanc is currently the manager of France. M'Vila, 21, currently plays midfield for Rennes.

Metro reports:

Blanc, also wanted by Chelsea, is currently settled as an international manager, but Inter hope that a large pay rise and the promise of funds to re-build the ageing squad will be enough to tempt the 46-year-old back into club management.

If that's not enough, Inter will also attempt to sign Rennes star Yann M'Vila - who is expected to play a key role under Blanc at Euro 2012 - with French paper L'Equipe saying his signature could prove pivotal in tempting 'Le Président' to the San Siro.

M'Vila's pricetag is reportedly around £15 million.

Maxi Lopez to Stay with Milan?

Elsewhere in Milan, Maxi Lopez's agent says the Argentine striker will stay with AC Milan next season.

Lopez joined Milan on loan from Catania in January.

Goal.com reports:

The Argentine has only made eight Serie A appearances for Milan, but his agent is confident that the former Barcelona forward has convinced the Italian champions to exercise their buying option.

"He will stay at Milan, because he has shown in the few minutes he has been given in matches and in practice sessions that he is a great player and a true champion," Andrea D'Amico told Radio Lombardia.

"He has physical strength, class and finishing prowess, which is something that is not easy to find."

AC Milan trail Juventus by one point atop the Serie A table.

Anelka Wants Drogba in China

Halfway around the world, former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka now serves as player/manager for Shanghai Shenhua.

Anelka only joined the club in January, but now he's reportedly eyeing a summer move for former teammate Didier Drogba.

Drogba is out of contract in the summer.

Newcastle Scout Vertonghen

Newcastle United are dark-horse candidates for fourth place in the English Premier League.

Now the Magpies might be dark-horse candidates to sign Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen from Ajax. Or not. It's hard to tell.

From The Telegraph:

Newcastle’s chief scout, Graham Carr, has been monitoring Vertonghen for at least two years and Pardew, the manager, has also been to see the 24 year-old play on a number of occasions.

However, their interest appeared to have ended as a deal for FC Twente centre-back Douglas has virtually been agreed, which should mean that the Brazilian defender moves to Tyneside for around £5 million in the summer.

Pardew, though, is keen to bring in two players in that position, as well as Holland left-back Erick Pieters from PSV Eindhoven, and as Newcastle’s push for a Champions League gains momentum, Vertonghen remains a viable option
.

Make of that what you will.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal have also been linked with Vertonghen.

Liverpool, Porto Chase Colombian?

Liverpool and Porto want Colombian striker Jackson Martinez. So says Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.

From talkSport:

Scouts from Anfield have reportedly watched him in action this season and he is available for around £4m—but Porto are also in the hunt.

Martinez told Colombian newspaper Nuevo Estadio: "I am not in any advanced negotiations with Liverpool or Porto but I know they are personally interested.

"I have not spoken to anyone and that goes for my club and my agent.

"In the next few months things should be finalised."

Martinez, 25, currently plays for Jaguares in Mexico.

Rodgers to Spurs?

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur could move for Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers if Harry Redknapp becomes England's manager this summer.

Ideally Tottenham would install Carlo Ancelotti as Redknapp’s replacement but the ex-Chelsea chief would have to be sacked by Paris St-Germain for that to happen.

And, although PSG have won only one of their last five games as they battle for the French title with Montpellier, Ancelotti is expected to keep his job even if they finish second.

And according to The Guardian, Spurs midfielder Scott Parker says it's fourth place or bust.

"We can't keep looking back, we can't keep feeling sorry for ourselves," Parker said. "We need to look forward now. That's exactly what we said in the dressing room [after the Chelsea defeat]. We were very disappointed. We lost our shape at times searching for a goal.

"But we've got five games left and we need to dust ourselves off, and try and win them. We have to stay positive and try and grind out the rest of the season, and finish fourth. That's our priority."

Methinks a double disappointment is heading Spurs' way.

Wolves Sell-off Begins?

Finally, the vultures are circling over Wolves, who almost certainly will suffer relegation this season.

In this case, those vultures come in the form of rival Premiership clubs.

According to the Daily Mirror, Sunderland want Scottish striker Steven Fletcher.

And according to the Daily Star, QPR want goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

Default Bundesliga Club Confirm Kuyt Interest

Hamburg confirm interest in Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt

• Hamburg director Frank Arnesen praises Dutchman
• Kuyt has one year remaining on Liverpool contract

Hamburg's technical director, Frank Arnesen, has expressed his admiration for the Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt as speculation over the Holland international's future continues.

Kuyt, who will be 32 in the summer, has had fewer first-team opportunities this season and is being linked with a move at the end of the campaign. Kuyt has a year left on his contract at Anfield and while his former club Feyenoord are believed to be keen to take him back Arnesen has spoken publicly about the striker.

"A player like Kuyt, who is still in good shape, can add something to any team," he told Bild. "He is a real team-player with an excellent attitude."

There had been suggestions initial negotiations had taken place but Kuyt's agent said that was not the case. "There have not been any talks with Arnesen or with someone else from HSV," he said. "Would Kuyt be interested in a move to the Bundesliga? I can't say anything about that. A lot of clubs have made enquiries, but there's nothing concrete for now."

Default World Football Gossip Roundup: Fellaini, Baines, Cavani, Richards, Dempsey

The English Premier League title is up for grabs yet again, and today's rumor mill is appropriately chaotic.

Marouane Fellaini inspired Everton in their 4-4 draw at Manchester United. But did you know he's already been linked with a move away from Goodison Park?

Meanwhile, Manchester United are apparently interested in Everton's Leighton Baines, and Manchester City's Micah Richards is apparently heading to Real Madrid.

Plus, one of those clubs is being linked with Clint Dempsey. Bet you can't guess which one...

Marouane Fellaini to Leave Everton?

If you watched Everton's 4-4 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, you saw what Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini can do.

If you saw this story from Friday, you might be wondering what Fellaini will do next. From Goal.com:

[Fellaini] signed a new five-year contract last November but is understood to have growing doubts about whether Everton can step up to the next level without an injection of cash.

The Belgium international has told friends that he wants to stay in the Premier League and is happy at Everton but is concerned both about whether his ambitions can be met at Goodison Park and the uncertain future of manager David Moyes.

Arsenal and Chelsea are listed as potential suitors.

Baines to United?

Fellaini isn't the only Everton player being linked with a move away from Goodison Park.

The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United want Everton fullback Leighton Baines.

Sir Alex Ferguson has identified the Everton left-back as a possible successor for captain Patrice Evra as the Frenchman nears his 31st birthday.

And the belief at Old Trafford is that Everton’s financial situation could enable them to land Baines for as *little as £5million.

Goodison boss David Moyes will be desperate to keep all his top players given that there is unlikely to be any cash made available for *reinforcements.

Baines, 27, joined Everton from Wigan for £5 million in 2007.

Cavani Leaving Napoli?

Uh oh. Edinson Cavani has declined to commit his future to Napoli.

From Goal.com:

(W)hen asked after the game if he would still be at the San Paolo next season if Napoli fail to overhaul the Biancocelesti, Cavani offered a cryptic reply.

“I don’t know - the club will deal with this sort of thing," the striker told Sky Sport Italia. "I am focused only on playing my football and winning every game.

“The club will think about the rest and they know what to do. For as long as I am at Napoli, I will continue to give my all for this team.”

Sounds like the start of a transfer saga to me. Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with Cavani, 25.

Richards to Real?

With Barcelona defeated and La Liga all but clinched, Real Madrid are reportedly chasing Manchester City's Micah Richards.

From the Daily Mail:

The 23-year-old only signed a four-year deal last year, but it has been suggested to the Portuguese manager that Richards has grown frustrated at Roberto Mancini's rotation policy.

And Mourinho is ready to test the water to see if the full back is obtainable this summer. Arsenal, Chelsea, Juventus and AC Milan are also understood to be monitoring Richards.

Of course, at the bottom of the page, the Mail is also reporting on the world's first pregnant man.

Expensive Iker

If Manchester United want Athletic Bilbao's 19-year-old sensation Iker Muniaín, it'll cost them almost £30 million.

That's the word from Muniaín's "representative," at least.

From Metro:
Juventus have also been linked with him, but his representative, Jesus Medina, thinks it is unlikely Muniain will end up in Italy.

He told Calciomercato.com: "Athletic do not want to sell. Whoever wants him must pay his buyout clause at €36 million (£29.5 million)."

United have also been linked with Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez, Oscar De Marcos and Ander Herrera.

Arsenal Chasing Ljajic?

Arsenal want 20-year-old Serbian midfielder Adem Ljajic, who currently plays for Fiorentina.

That's according to reports in Italy. Metro passes along the info:

Ljajic was close to being given the opportunity to showcase his creative talents in the Premier League in 2010.

Manchester United negotiated an option to sign him while he was still at Partizan Belgrade, but pulled out of the deal after being unable to secure a work permit for him.

Dempsey the Toffee?

Finally, Clint Dempsey's true destination this summer has been revealed.

Take it away, Daily Star:

EVERTON are chasing another American star – Fulham’s top-scorer Clint Dempsey.

The Goodison club already have two goalkeepers from the USA in Tim Howard – first choice for club and country - and Marcus Hahnemann.

Now, Everton boss David Moyes wants Dempsey, 29 who has only a year remaining on his contract.

Dempsey, who can operate up front, behind the main striker or in wide positions, has been one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers this season.

Everton believe they can clinch a deal at around £4 million.

Yes, Dempsey is going to Everton. They have so much money to spend.

And when he says he wants Champions League football, he's really just kidding.

Default PSG Renew Interest in Injury-Prone Star

PSG renew interest in Milan's Pato

Paris St Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the Ligue 1 giants will continue to pursue AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato when the transfer window re-opens.

Pato has been ruled out for the remainder of the Serie A season due to ongoing muscle problems.

However, despite the Brazilian suffering 13 related injuries since January 2010, Ancelotti insists PSG will look to add Pato to the growing list of stars in their squad.

"Pato was one of our targets in January, and remains one of our transfer targets for the future," Ancelotti told Rai Sport.

"It's true that he has been injured a lot, but I still consider him to be an extraordinary talent who can prove himself to everybody.
