Jones Janji Setan Merah Bangkit Kontra Newcastle



Pemain bertahan Manchester United, Phil Jones, meyakini jika klubnya akan mampu bangkit setelah kekalahan mengejutkan dari Blackburn akhir pekan lalu dengan skor 2-3, Sabtu (31/12).

Setan Merah secara mengejutkan terhempas di kandangnya sendiri dari tim papan bawah, Blackburn Rovers, di tengah krisis pemain akibat cedera dan kontroversi absennya Wayne Rooney dalam laga tersebut.

Tapi, Jones yakin timnya akan menghapus kenangan buruk dari kekalahan tersebut dengan memenangkan game kontra Newcastle besok malam (Rabu, 4/1) waktu setempat.

Jones berujar, "Saat tekanan datang, maka anda akan tahu siapa pejuang sejati."

"Saat kami bertanding tiap pekan, anda memiliki 11 pemain di atas lapangan bertarung untuk mendapatkan kemenangan. Itulah keindahan Manchester United," lanjutnya.

Jones mengakui jika laga away kontra Newcastle tidak akan mudah mengingat pasukan Alan Pardew itu kini duduk sebagai salah satu tim terbaik di Liga Inggris.

"Ke kandang Newcastle akan menjadi laga yang sulit, atmosfer di sana sangat luar biasa. Para fans bersemangat tinggi dan ini akan menjadi salah satu game yang akan sulit untuk kami menangkan," pungkas Jones.

Itulah sederet kekaguman yang dilontarkan komentator pada duel “Setan Merah” kontra “Toon Army”, dalam lanjutan gelar Liga Inggris (26/11) di stadion Old Trafford yang berakhir imbang 1-1. Pujian yang datang bertubi-tubi tersebut, memang cocok untuk menggambarkan performa luar biasa seorang Timothy Michael Krul. Pada pertandingan itu, dia tampil nyaris tanpa cacat. Cekatan menangkis bola-bola atas, gemilang mengantisipasi serangan mendatar, gerak refleks yang bagus, lengkap dengan ketenangan, dan kepintaran mengatur tempo permainan. Walhasil diapun dinobatkan sebagai Man of The Match setelah peluit panjang ditiup wasit.

Dasyatnya penampilan pemain dengan tinggi 6 kaki 2 inci ini di bawah mistar gawang, tidak datang hanya dalam waktu semalam. Dia pernah merasakan pahitnya terdepak dari tim inti Newcastle, sehingga harus dipinjamkan pada club lain. Tercatat ada dua kesebelasan, yaitu Falkirk dan Carlisle United yang harus disiggahinya sebelum kembali ke Saint James Park (Markas Newcastle). Sekembalinya dari “pengembaraan”, pemuda asal The Hague, Belanda ini ternyata dinaungi nasib baik. Kiper utama tim “Hitam-Putih” Steve Harper mengalami cedera panjang, sehingga coach Alan Pardew akhirnya mempercayakan posisi Penjaga Gawang utama pada pemilik nomor punggung 26 ini.

Keputusan menyertakan Tim Krul pada tim utama ternyata sangat tepat, terbukti hingga menjelang pertengahan musim ini, dia sukses mengerek prestasi Newcastle ke papan atas Barclays Premiere League. Selain itu, bertenggernya club milik Mike Ashley di posisi big four (empat besar), juga tidak lepas dari kerjasama apik yang berhasil dibangun oleh Tim Krul dan teman-temannya di lini belakang, karena walaupun produktifitas gol minim, mereka berhasil mengatrolnya dengan menjadi tim yang paling susah dibobol oleh lawan.

Bila hingga akhir musim 2011-2012 para punggawa lini belakang Newcastle dapat mempertahankan pencapaiannya di awal musim, tidak mustahil mereka akan kembali mencicipi kerasnya persaingan di Liga Champions, yang terakhir kali mereka ikuti pada musim 2003-2004.

United's shock home defeat to struggling Blackburn on New Year's Eve ended a run of five consecutive Barclays*Premier League wins in December. The*goal will be to begin 2012 positively and bounce back from only a second*reverse of the league campaign. United remain unbeaten away from home in the division, the only side to manage this feat with every other club losing at least twice on the road. Newcastle have*won only once in their last eight outings after a splendid start to the season. A 2-0 Boxing Day win at Bolton was their first victory since 5 November.

Ins and outs
The Reds still have a whole raft of injury problems to contend with. Nemanja Vidic, Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley, Michael Owen and Jonny Evans*are amongst those*sidelined. Chris Smalling has only an outside chance of a return but Sir Alex hopes Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney will all feature. Alan Pardew is confident Gabriel Obertan*will not*miss out on another reunion with his former team-mates*and Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote are available despite their impending African Cup of Nations commitments. Steven Taylor, Danny Guthrie and*Sylvain Marveaux*are absent.

Last meeting
The two teams met in November when United laid siege to the Magpies' goal but had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. Javier Hernandez's opener was cancelled out by a Ba penalty, controversially awarded for Rio Ferdinand's perfectly-timed tackle on Hatem Ben Arfa, and the Mexican had a late effort ruled out for offside. United's last trip to Tyneside ended in a goalless draw coming off the back of the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City last year.

The boss
Alan Pardew was not a popular choice with the Toon Army but he's won them over by doing a splendid job at the helm. The former Crystal Palace midfielder played against the Reds in the 1990 FA Cup final and he'll be confident of halting the champions again after getting his tactics right in Manchester. A dogged rearguard display proved sufficient to take a point from the daunting trip to Old Trafford and he was at the Theatre of Dreams again*to pick up tips from Blackburn's display last weekend.

Star man
Demba Ba has been a revelation this term since joining the Magpies on a free transfer from West Ham. Only Arsenal's Robin van Persie has scored more than his 14 goals in the Barclays Premier League and he calmly netted the equaliser from the spot in the 1-1 draw the last time the two teams met. A failed medical cost*the 26-year-old*a move to Stoke but the Potters' loss has very much been Newcastle's gain and he'll be keen to sign off in style before representing Senegal later in the month.

The defeat to Blackburn rocked the Reds and it's all about the response now. Rooney's return will be welcomed and he has a fabulous record against the Magpies, scoring nine goals in 13 league games against them including some special strikes. Dimitar Berbatov has six goals in three games*and United will*aim for more luck than was enjoyed in the corresponding fixture at Old Trafford.

Whistle blower
Howard Webb takes charge of affairs - the World Cup final official was the referee for the 8-2 thumping of Arsenal and the 2-0 win at QPR. Webb oversaw United's 2-0 triumph at St James' Park in 2005 with Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy on the scoresheet.
