07/10/2014 - ManUtd.com, Adam Marshall Accrington Stanley 2 United Res 4 Will Keane scored a hat-trick as Manchester United won a first-ever encounter against Accrington Stanley 4-2 at the Store First Stadium. Keane was back among the goals in a cracking Lancashire Senior Cup first-round tie as the Reds had to battle back from 2-0 down and saw the game drift towards a penalty shoot-out before a quickfire double in the closing 10 minutes. Despite the side containing nine players who have represented the first team, they fell behind after only five minutes when Lee Molyneux's free-kick from the left was met with an unstoppable header by Liam Goulding. George Bowerman looked offside when nodding over from a promising position but a second goal did arrive when another set-piece flicked off James Weir and nestled in the net, possibly off Tyler Blackett although it was credited to 16-year-old John Roberts and he took the plaudits. The second setback stung the Reds into action with James Wilson forcing a fine diving save out of Luke Simpson and Keane firing off target. The two strikers combined to good effect just before the half-hour mark as Wilson sped past Roberts to supply a perfect pass for Keane to tap in his first of the season. Keane flicked a Sean Goss corner into the side-netting but there was a real scare when Shay McCartan capitalised after Weir lost the ball in midfield and drove through on goal, only to be denied by a brilliant one-handed save by Ben Amos. The keeper almost spilled the ball but it was a wonderful reflex stop. Wilson flashed off target from Weir's chested lay-off but the equaliser did come just before the break when Keane curved his run intelligently and sprinted clear to round Simpson and find the empty net. The crowd of 679 were certainly getting their money's worth but the start of the second period was less entertaining. Tom Thorpe took a painful blow to the head in deflecting a Molyneux free-kick wide and James Gray's shot from the left flank forced Amos to acrobatically flip over the bar. Although Keane saw a long-ranger skid through to Simpson, United struggled to pin back the hosts and the ever-dangerous Wilson was withdrawn for defender Donald Love on 62 minutes. Saidy Janko pushed further forward as Love slotted in at right-back and tore down the line to send in a cross that was impressively handled by Simpson. However, Stanley continued to carry a real threat and Bowerman should have regained the lead but lobbed over Amos and wide when clean through. Roberts mopped up with a maturity beyond his years after Janko went past keeper Simpson out on the right and centred again. Andreas Pereira then burst into life to bring the best out of Simpson, who clawed the effort away. United's greater stamina told with two goals in three minutes deciding the tie. Weir cut in from the left to slip a calm finish wide of Simpson and into the corner of the net and Keane completed his treble with similar authority following a mistake by Dieter Downey, tucking home confidently. Keane received a deserved round of applause when coming off for Ashley Fletcher with his work for the night done before Simpson was out smartly to thwart Weir as Warren Joyce's men can look forward to a clash with nearby Blackburn Rovers in the next round. United: Amos; Janko, Vermijl, Blackett, James (Grimshaw 81); Thorpe; Pereira, Weir, Goss; Keane (Fletcher 86); Wilson (Love 62). Subs not used: O'Hara, Willock. |

[img][/img] 24/10/2014 - ManUtd.com, Adam Marshall U21s: West Ham 1 United 2 Michael Carrick played for 64 minutes as Manchester United's Under-21s triumphed 2-1 to return to the top of the table. The midfielder produced an accomplished performance on his first outing since an ankle operation but strike duo James Wilson and Will Keane scored the goals to overcome the Hammers, who levelled through Elliot Lee, son of former England international Rob Lee. The visitors were unlucky not to go ahead in the 12th minute when a Reece James cross fell to Saidy Janko and he steadied himself before blasting against the bar, with the suspicion that Sam Howes got his fingertips to the powerful drive. Howes had no chance, however, when James was again the provider and Wilson took a touch, dragged the ball expertly and, with minimal back-lift, managed to muster enough strength and accuracy in his shot to leave the keeper helpless in the middle of his goal. United continued to press as Andreas Pereira and Wilson supplied disappointing efforts from promising free-kick positions and Wilson spun superbly on a Carrick pass, only to tamely shoot at Howes with Keane awaiting a square pass. United's profligacy was punished when Lee, who had been guilty of a poor challenge moments earlier, outmuscled Tyler Blackett and flashed a finish high into Anders Lindegaard's net from a tight angle. Wilson shrugged off a knock that saw him hobble into the dressing room at the interval to remain a real threat, spearing a shot off target after a beautiful piece of control and then lashing wide with his left foot following some splendid work by Carrick and James Weir. Howes had to react bravely to thwart Wilson again when initially spilling a James curler and it proved the last involvement for the potent centre-forward as he and Carrick were withdrawn on 64 minutes. The departures placed an extra burden on Keane as the sole attacker and, as the wind and rain made life difficult for both sides, the Reds were camped in the Hammers' half without really testing Howes for a long spell. That changed when Pereira's marvellous sliding tackle won the ball and Weir danced into the box with real menace. Although the midfielder's shot came off Howes, Keane was on hand to tap in with his left boot. Warren Joyce's side, who replace neighbours City at the summit of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Division One, were good value for the three points despite Lindegaard being forced into a late save to repel Lee's side-footed effort. A special mention must go to captain Tom Thorpe for another excellent display at the heart of the defence. United: Lindegaard; Vermijl, Thorpe, Blackett, James; Janko, Carrick (Grimshaw 64), A.Pereira, Weir; W.Keane, Wilson (Love 64). Subs not used:*O'Hara, Goss, A.Fletcher. |

What's wrong yah? Ahh sudah jarang ikuti perkembangan reserve lagi semenjak pindah kesini. |

03/11/2014 - ManUtd.com, Adam Marshall Under-21s: United 2 Leicester 3 Manchester United missed the chance to regain top spot in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League as Leicester City ended the side's unbeaten start to the campaign. Although the Foxes were bottom of the table going into the fixture, their 6-2 win against leaders Manchester City indicated their strength and there was plenty of experience in their line-up. Almost predictably, it was one of their former Reds, Jack Barmby, who grabbed the winner in stoppage time to settle an entertaining enounter. James Wilson scored early on but the visitors were worthy of their half-time lead courtesy of Joe Dodoo and Marc Albrighton. Alie Sesay's own goal would have been enough to clinch a place at the summit but Barmby had the final say after leaving the club in the summer. United were quick out of the blocks and made an early breakthrough when Andreas Pereira did well on the left and Wilson touched the ball off to Saidy Janko before turning to sprint towards goal. Janko spotted the run and supplied an inviting through ball and the teenager did the rest, moving wide of Adam Smith before slipping home with his left foot. The visitors responded magnificently but Ben Amos thwarted Albrighton and Jak McCourt before Tom Hopper spurned a gilt-edged chance from Danny Simpson's ball into the box. Although Tom Thorpe appeared to hit the outside of a post from a Pereira corner, Amos continued to repel efforts with McCourt forcing another stop out of the keeper. Wilson managed a flick to a Pereira free-kick that Smith saved but City continued to press and Dodoo levelled matters by rolling wide of Amos following a slick move that featured an Anthony Knockaert assist. Dodoo was penalised for wrestling Marnick Vermijl to the ground before firing against the woodwork and Hopper's effort forced a wonderful save out of Amos, who somehow tipped it over despite a deflection off Thorpe.* After Will Keane went close at the other end, the bar was shaking again when Amos touched a Knockaert free-kick onto it, with the rebound bouncing off his back for a corner. The keeper did not stand a chance from the set-piece, however, when the ball fell to Albrighton and the former Aston Villa man lashed in an unstoppable drive. The home side scored eight minutes after the restart, as they had done in the first period, when Ben Pearson drove forward and picked out Keane with the striker's fierce shot diverted past Smith by the lunging Sesay. Back came Leicester as Albrighton shot across goal from a Barmby run and Lawrence could not profit from a Saidy Janko error, prodding off target. Dodoo tricked his way through again but could not find a way past Amos before Wilson and Pereira were withdrawn for James Weir and Joe Rothwell. After Lawrence shot straight at Amos, Keane's header was too weak and gathered by Smith after Josh Harrop won an aerial challenge inside the area.* Sesay blasted over the top as City looked to regain the lead by posing problems at the back while the chances dried up for Warren Joyce's men. Barmby, who was excellent throughout, showed composure in defence and sparked a break forward in the dying seconds that ended with his deflected shot from the edge of the area beating Amos. It was tough luck on Amos and United so Joyce will need to lift his troops for the tough trip to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. United: Amos; Vermijl, Thorpe, Blackett, James; Janko, Pearson, A.Pereira (Rothwell 65), Harrop; Wilson (Weir 63), Keane. Subs not used: J.Pereira, Grimshaw, Love. |

09/11/2014 - ManUtd.com, Cliff Butler Under-21s: Chelsea 1 United 1 Manchester United's Under-21s bounced back from their midweek defeat*to Leicester City with a hard-fought point against an accomplished Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge. Will Keane gave United the lead two minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after Chelsea defender Ola Aina had handled. But Chelsea were level 12 minutes later as Andreas Christensen headed home Lewis Baker’s corner. The point gained enabled United to regain top spot in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League ahead of neighbours Manchester City. Tyler Blackett and Marnick Vermijl were in the Reds' starting XI despite*being on the first team’s substitute bench for the game against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford 22 hours earlier. There were several names on the Chelsea teamsheet familiar to United supporters*from the FA Youth Cup jousts with the west London club in recent years. Goalkeeper and captain Mitchell Beeney, Alex Kiwomya and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, among others, were all listed in the starting line-up. There was minute’s silence before kick-off to mark Remembrance Sunday. It was suggested that the kick-off could be delayed because the referee had been caught in traffic on his journey to Stamford Bridge, but he arrived in time and the game commenced on schedule at 13:05 GMT. Both sides started the game brightly, which was highly appropriate on a beautifully sunny autumn afternoon on Fulham Road. It was end-to-end fare from the off, which isn’t surprising for a contest between two of the best under-21 sides in the country. Chelsea’s Isaiah Brown and Kiwomya both looked capable of causing damage, while United’s Keane and Andreas Pereira were always looking to chance their luck in front of goal. The Blues finished the first half stronger and were inches from taking in a half-time lead on a couple of occasions. United very nearly added to Keane’s penalty a few minutes later when Blackett made a darting run forward but failed narrowly to top it off with a goal.* Chelsea’s equaliser certainly put the wind back in their sails, but United were still very much in the game and battling every inch of the way. Both sides put every ounce of energy into the pursuit of a winner, but ultimately the 1-1 draw and point apiece was fair reflection of the afternoon’s proceedings. United: Amos; Janko, Thorpe, Blackett, James; Love, Vermijl, Grimshaw, Weir; A.Pereira; W.Keane. Subs not used: O’Hara, Goss, C.Evans, Willock, A.Fletcher. |
