Foster: Will probably be disappointed that the late dip beat him for the Turk's goal 6

Neville: Clearly annoyed with himself at times for over-hitting his service and putting Reds in trouble defensively on occasions 5

Brown: Had one moment when he was out-foxed by a one-two but largely wasn't in too much trouble 6

Kuszczak: The Pole built on his impressive form at Portsmouth with one particularly excellent save from Bentley 7

Neville: Whether it was in combat against Bentley or Lennon the skipper was the winner 7

Brown: The diminutive threat of Defoe and Keane didn't bother him and he handled Crouch with equal comfort 7

Vidic: Slack distribution early on but he grew in stature and was more like his old self as game wore on 8

De Laet: Like his opposite full back team-mate the Belgian was never exposed or in grave danger against experienced opponents 7

Obertan: The French winger was one of the brighter sparks against Besiktas but didn't get much change out of Bale 6

Anderson: Suggestions that the Brazilian has started to tread water were dispelled with a much better display 7

Gibson: Comfortable on the ball and his long range strikes were a lethal weapon 8

Park: Not much went down United's left flank so the Korean was a bit out of it 6

Welbeck: Looked better on the ball and put Tottenham on the back foot more than he did the Turks 6

Berbatov: The younger ones around him fed off his calm impact on the game 8

Fletcher: Up against a young opponent and he never gave him a chance at right back 7

Neville: Not in much trouble until he pulled up with groin injury 5

Brown: Very little aerial danger from West Ham’s attack so it was a pretty comfortable afternoon 7

Evra: Didn’t have to be much more than solid to ensure the Hammers didn’t chisel an opening down his flank 7

Valencia: Fairly quiet because of lack of service until he had a burst of power to help put Reds on Easy Street 7

Gibson: Kept everything simple in midfield and struck another absolute beauty 7

Scholes: Cracking goal and ran the show for Reds in the engine room 8

Anderson: The Brazilian didn’t impose himself on midfield but did set up Valencia goal 6

Giggs: Ran the show in the first half and then took a back seat for a while before coming to fore again 8

Rooney: Not much to get his teeth into until a simple tap in presented itself 6

KUSZCZAK: made two crucial saves to keep United on level terms and had no chance with Wolfsburg equaliser. 7

PARK: ran himself to a standstill up and down United's right flank as full back and midfield. 7

CARRICK: never considered himself a central defender but used brain rather than brawn to great effect. 7

FLETCHER: barely gave an inch to Brazilian Grafite who was eventually substituted such was the Scotsman's mastery over him. 8

EVRA: stand-in skipper adapted quickly to his role in a back three and produced succession of timely tackles. 8

NANI: continues to frustrate the life out of United fans and this display won't win over the doubters. 5

GIBSON: injuries have given the Irishman his chance but again didn't look out of place on elite stage. 7

SCHOLES: the midfield general displayed full repertoire of passing skills to show he still merits regular place. 8

WELBECK: willing foil for 'veteran' strike partner Owen. 7

ANDERSON: some misplaced passes marred what would have been a fine display by the Brazilian. 6

OWEN: are you watching Fabio? his sensational hat-trick gave the England boss more than a nudge for next year's World Cup. 9

SUBSTITUTES:

OBERTAN (for Welbeck 74): created two goals in his brief stay on the pitch. 7

VALENCIA (for Nani 74): didn't make the same impact as the Frenchman. 6
