Manchester United hope 'cult hero' Ryan Giggs can lure Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to Old Trafford in record £75million deal

* Manchester United to bid £75million for Gareth Bale this transfer window
* Working relationship with his cult hero Ryan Giggs could prove decisive
* Zinedine Zidane has admitted Bale is unhappy over Rafa Benitez's sacking
* Former Madrid and Wales boss John Toshack has dismissed its relevance
* Both Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes tried and failed to sign winger

Manchester United are prepared to make a £75million move for Gareth Bale this month, encouraged by signals from the Real Madrid star's camp that he is ready to return to the Premier League.

Bale's future at the Bernabeu has been thrown into doubt following the decision of Real president Florentino Perez to axe head coach Rafael Benitez after seven months in charge.

That has alerted United who are weighing up a renewed effort to sign Bale, having maintained a close interest in the 26-year-old since he moved to Spain from Tottenham for a world record £85million in 2013.

Real have received enquiries about Bale from Old Trafford in every transfer window since then, and United will try again this month despite accepting that they might have a better chance in the summer.

Manchester City and Chelsea are the only other English clubs that could afford his wages of £300,000-a-week, but Bale is understood to favour a move to United if he returns to England.

Manchester United are prepared to make a £75million move for winger Bale this January transfer window

Ryan Giggs is one of his boyhood heroes and United believe their assistant manager, who is next in line to succeed Louis van Gaal, could be a key figure in attracting his fellow Welshman to Old Trafford.

New Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane admitted on Tuesday that Bale is unhappy over Benitez's sacking but vowed to make the player feel wanted at the club.

'Gareth was disappointed with the sacking of Rafa because he was an important coach for him, but I will treat him the same way Rafa did,' said Zidane.

'He is an important player and a key player for the squad. He's phenomenal and we're going to give him all the care and support he needs.'

However, former Real Madrid and Wales boss John Toshack is not the only one who believes that Bale was not as dependent on Benitez as some might suggest.

Ryan Giggs (right) is one of Bale's boyhood heroes and United believe their assistant could be a pivotal figure

'I don't see Benitez's exit affecting Gareth at all,' said Toshack. 'I don't see that as a problem. Benitez was up against it right from the off.'

It is understood that Bale has been unhappy for some time with the political interference at Madrid, and resents the influence his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo wields over the club.

Perez was said to have stepped in to offer him reassurances when he was having misgivings about the situation last summer despite helping Madrid lift their 10th European Cup.

Bale scored Real's crucial second goal in a 4-1 win over neighbours Atletico in the Champions League final in Lisbon, and is comfortable that his time in Spain will be viewed as a success if he returns to England with three years left on a six-year contract.

However, it would be understandable if he is reluctant to leave this month with Real through to the knockout stages again and three points behind Atletico in the title race – even more so after United's season began to unravel in recent weeks.

Bale is also wary of causing any disruption in the build-up to Euro 2016 this summer after helping Wales qualify for their first major championships.

United know that their best chance of signing the player will come after that, having seen him slip through their fingers on two previous occasions.

Sir Alex Ferguson bid for Bale, then a teenage left-back, in January 2007 but it was rejected by his club Southampton shortly before he moved to Tottenham.

'We were disappointed in Southampton at the time because we were first there, but they never came back to us,' Ferguson revealed recently.

'It was not the boy who turned us down, it was Southampton, then a few weeks later he signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

'He was a left-back when we tried to sign him. It wasn't until Harry Redknapp went to Tottenham that he converted him into a wide left player.'

A second attempt was made to sign Bale when David Moyes succeeded Ferguson in the summer of 2013, but the player's heart was set on Madrid and United's fractious relationship with Spurs chief Daniel Levy was seen as too much of an obstacle.

Now there is a growing belief within Old Trafford that it will be third time lucky.

Mohammad Resha Pratama - detikSport

"Jika memutuskan pulang (kembali ke Liga Inggris, Red.), saya yakin bukan hanya Man.

Gareth Bale 'never considered' move to Manchester United as Real Madrid star focuses on winning trophies in Spain

* The pressure is mounting on Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal
* United are long-term admirers of Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale
* But the 26-year-old Wales winger 'never considered' move to United
* Bale is focusing on becoming a serial trophy winner at Real Madrid

Chaos may reign at Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal's tenure becomes even more disastrous than David Moyes' but the lack of a plan at Manchester United was not the reason Gareth Bale did not join the club in the summer.

'The story is complete rubbish. We have never even discussed it,' Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett told Sportmail on Tuesday

He was responding to suggestions the player 'seriously considered' Ed Woodward's advances at the end of last season but was put off by the state of affairs at Old Trafford. United’s plan has been to capture Bale, at any cost

Manchester United are desperate to make the sort of signing that will send tremors through world football and both Bale and Barcelona forward Neymar have been identified as players who would do exactly that if they arrived at Old Trafford.

But the Bale camp have reiterated that United's interest is not registering with the €100million (£75m) man who is still very much focusing on becoming a serial trophy winner at Real Madrid.

La Liga side Real Madrid confirmed Garteh Bale returned to outdoor training for their first session of the week

The idea that then-Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez had to persuade Bale to turn down United in the summer has also been dismissed.

Bale won the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup in his first season but the second campaign ended in disappointment with the 26-year-old feeling isolated in a team still built around Cristiano Ronaldo.

But despite the disappointment of that second season he had no intention of joining United and did not need convincing by his manager who had replaced Carlo Ancelotti the previous summer.

It is true that the Wales winger enjoyed working with Benitez and was unhappy at his dismissal three weeks ago.

But he scored a hat-trick on new boss Zinedine Zidane's managerial debut and is now only thinking about a future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale missed Real Madrid's away fixture at Real Betis at the weekend and the team struggled without him; picking up a point with a disappointing performance.

The former Tottenham forward has struggled for recognition in Spain – even winning four trophies and scoring in three finals in his first season did not enable him to win over the club's fans or media.

But in recent weeks the doubts, that have in the past been expressed about him, have been switched to Ronaldo. The Portuguese international will turn 31 next week and has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season.

However, the lion's share of those goals have come in a handful of games against relatively weak opposition.

He has failed to score in 13 of the club's 21 league matches and not found the net in the club's most difficult matches against Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Sevilla, Villarreal and Valencia. Eleven of his 27 goals have been scored whit the team already leading by three or more goals.

The three-times Ballon d'Or winner remains on a goal-a-game average but Bale is being seen as the lead striker in Real's attack and having fought hard to gain that respect, he now seems less interested than ever to walk away from it.

United's only hope is that new coach Zidane will fail in this second half of the season and the club will look to make yet another managerial change – the fourth since Bale joined.

Such uncertainty, or indeed if things were not working out for Bale under Zidane, could still leave the door open.

And should Real Madrid be granted a stay of execution on their FIFA transfer ban which could to a rash of ins and outs next summer, then his future would be less certain.

Madrid's appeal is currently being studied by FIFA lawyers Larry Mussenden and Fernando Mitjans with a decision not expected before the end of the transfer window.

Real face Espanyol away this weekend and then visit Granada. Bale should then be back in contention for against Athletic Bilbao and a trip to face Roma in the Champions League.

Gareth Bale to snub new Real Madrid contract in favour of Man United or Man City move

MANCHESTER UNITED and Manchester City are reportedly ready to go to war this summer with Gareth Bale eyeing a Premier League return.

The Welshman has been in stunning form this season, bagging 15 goals in 19 league appearances to overtake Gary Lineker as the top British scorer in Spanish football history.

Bale was handed a central role by Rafa Benitez at the beginning of the campaign, but has been forced back to the wings following Zinedine Zidane's appointment in January.

The ex-Tottenham star was linked with a move back to England last year before deciding to remain at Real, but Benitez's exit has left his future in the Spanish capital unclear once again.

And Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb claims that Bale has now set his sights on a sensational transfer to either Manchester United or Manchester City with Zidane lining up a bid for Chelsea exile Eden Hazard.

Manchester United 'hopeful of signing Gareth Bale if he is on the Real Madrid bench in the Champions League final'

* Manchester United may move for Real Madrid's Gareth Bale if he is benched
* Bale could start the Champions League final in Cardiff among the substitutes
* Reports in Spain say Welsh international Bale would feel 'betrayed' by this

Manchester United will be encouraged to make a summer move for Gareth Bale if he begins the Champions League final on the bench, according to reports in Spain.

Real Madrid forward Bale has been a long-term target for United, who wanted to sign him before his world-record move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and have been linked with him since.

Bale has been a star for Real since, but has suffered injury problems this season with Isco putting in brilliant displays as his replacement.

Manchester United may move for Gareth Bale if he is benched in the Champions League final. United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to revamp his squad and could target Bale

According to Barcelona-based website Mundo Deportivo, Isco's form could see him start in Saturday's final ahead of Bale, which could give United belief they would be able to tempt the Welshman back to the Premier League.

Being benched would be a double blow for Bale, as the Champions League final is this year being played in Wales, at Cardiff's Principality Stadium.

Mundo report that Bale would feel 'betrayed' if he was not started in the final, which could pave the way for a sensational return to English football.

Jose Mourinho is looking to revamp his squad in preparation for Champions League football next year, and has already reportedly made a bid for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku are other names in the frame.

They have also been connected with another Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez, who looks certain to depart the Bernabeu after a lack of first-team opportunities.

Bale however would represent a real step up, although he does have a good chance of playing in Cardiff after training on Saturday without any trace of injury issues.

According to Mundo, he has met with Real manager Zinedine Zidane and says he is ready to play a full part against Juventus.
