_____________________________________ 06/04/2011 17:31, Adam Marshall Fulham connections Plenty of players have turned out for both United and Fulham in their careers and we've listed 10 in the table on the left. We've halved this shortlist to pick out our favourite five so it's worth mentioning those who did not make the cut. Wilf Tranter, Peter Beardsley, Andy Cole, Jonathan Greening and recent recruit Chris Smalling were considered but we took their contributions at both clubs into account. So the focus is on George Best, Paul Parker, Mark Pearson, Louis Saha and Edwin van der Sar. George Best The magical Northern Irishman was one of the game's all-time greats and captivated fans with his breathtaking skills. His Old Trafford career finished criminally early but he enjoyed his time at Fulham away from the pressures of life at the top. George sadly passed away in 2005 but his memory lives on for all football supporters. Paul Parker Starting out at Fulham as a midfielder, the tenacious Londoner made his name at Craven Cottage before the cash-strapped club sold him to nearby Queens Park Rangers. After representing England at Italia 90, he earned a move to United where he played right-back in one of the best teams in the club's illustrious history. Mark Pearson The original 'Pancho' Pearson before Stuart came along in the seventies, the inside-forward was so nicknamed because of his large sideburns. A feisty character who featured in the FA Cup tie with Sheffield Wednesday straight after the Munich disaster, he played 80 times for the Reds before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham and then Halifax. Louis Saha After top scoring in Fulham's promotion campaign, the lively front-man quickly settled to life in the Premier League and his red-hot form in 2003/2004 convinced Ferguson to make his move in the January transfer window. The £12.8million striker scored on his debut against Southampton and was impressive when fit but injuries took their toll and he was sold to Everton in 2008. Edwin van der Sar The boss still rues not signing the Dutch great as a replacement for Peter Schmeichel in 1999. Instead, van der Sar went to Juventus before moving to England with Fulham a couple of years later for a sizeable £7.1million. There was still time to make the switch to Old Trafford and he has given marvellous service to the Reds into his forties. Quote:
