Manchester United add Phil Jones and teenage winger Amad Diallo to their Europa League squad as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares for tie with Real Sociedad later this month

* Manchester United face Real Sociedad in the Europa League last-32 this month
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added Phil Jones and Amad Diallo to their squad
* Centre-back Jones hasn't played a match for United since January last year
* He has just regained fitness following knee surgery and returns to the fold
* Exciting winer Diallo, 18, has arrived from Atalanta and has yet to make debut
* But he scored twice for United's Under-23 side as they beat Liverpool 6-3

Manchester United have added Phil Jones and Amad Diallo to their UEFA Europa League squad as they prepare for this month's last-32 tie with Real Sociedad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Monday he planned to add centre-back Jones to the list of 24 players even though he hasn't played a game for United since January last year.

The English defender, who last played in the 6-1 FA Cup win over Tranmere Rovers last season, required surgery on a knee injury late last year and has just returned to full fitness.

But the inclusion of Diallo, the 18-year-old Ivorian wonderkid, will excite United fans.

The winger has just arrived from Atalanta, where he made his first-team breakthrough last season, and United could eventually pay up to £35million if performance-related bonuses are met.

Diallo has yet to make his debut for Solskjaer's side but impressed on his debut for the Under 23s on Saturday, scoring twice in a 6-3 victory over Liverpool.

He made substitute appearances for Atalanta in both Serie A and the Champions League earlier in the season and his inclusion in United's Europa League squad suggests Solskjaer plans to use him at some point.

Manchester United have added centre-back Phil Jones (left) and teenage winger Amad Diallo (right) to their squad for the UEFA Europa League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are preparing to face Real Sociedad later this month in the last-32

While United's title chances were boosted significantly by Tuesday night's 9-0 rout of Southampton, they will soon have to focus again on the Europa League, a competition they last won in 2017.

They crashed out of the Champions League following defeat by RB Leipzig in December and then received a testing last-32 tie against La Liga side Sociedad.

The first leg, in Spain, will be on February 18 with the return at Old Trafford on February 25.

Speaking about Diallo earlier this week, Solskjaer said: 'I don't think it's gonna be too long before he's involved in a matchday squad.'

Manchester United hopeful that fans will return to Old Trafford THIS season as club passes an entire year without a crowd... and they announce a season ticket freeze for TENTH straight year

* Manchester United have announced their season ticket plans for next season
* Prices for Old Trafford season tickets have been frozen for the 10th straight year
* Chief Richard Arnold says he hopes fans will return before the end of this season
* It has now been over a year since Manchester United hosted fans at Old Trafford

Manchester United have frozen their season ticket prices for the TENTH straight year as they prepare to welcome fans back to Old Trafford in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has now been over a year since supporters were in the stands at a home Manchester United game, but the club are readying themselves for the end of lockdown and have announced their plans for the 2021-22 season.

It has been revealed that the cost of a season ticket will once again stay the same, marking a decade of price freezes in the general admission areas of the stadium.

Old Trafford has now been empty for over a year, but United hope to welcome fans back soon. Richard Arnold confirmed that season ticket prices will be frozen for a 10th straight year

Speaking about the impending return of the club's supporters, Group Managing Director Richard Arnold said: 'This past year has tested all of our resilience. Fans have missed being at Old Trafford and we have missed them being there.

'While we will continue to plan for every eventuality, we are announcing our plans for season ticket holders for next season with optimism that this will be a fresh start and a long-awaited step towards normality.

'Season ticket prices have been frozen for the 2021-22 season, as part of our ongoing commitment to fair pricing that has been a fundamental part of our ticketing policy for some time. This marks the 10th successive season that the club has kept prices frozen in general admission areas of the stadium.'

Supporters who had season tickets last season can roll their money over to buy their seat for the next campaign, and the club have confirmed that they will offer full refunds for any games that fans can't attend due to Covid.

United are desperate to have a full house at Old Trafford again following Covid-19 pandemic. United are hopeful that fans will return soon, perhaps even before the end of this season

There is, though, optimism from United that fans may even be allowed back before the start of next season, with Arnold admitting that he hopes the end of this season can see a slight return to normality.

'The last year has demonstrated the ability of Premier League clubs to deliver bio-secure, safe events and we are committed to creating a safe experience for all those who attend future matches at Old Trafford.

'A new Supporters’ Code of Conduct and a range of health and safety measures have already been communicated to our fans. We are eager to be reunited with them and to see the new stadium operation in action, potentially towards the end of this season.'

Man United change their Old Trafford BACKGROUND after players moan they can't SEE team-mates amid poor home form... and Gary Neville says it's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's 'grey shirt moment'!

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the red banners covering seats at Old Trafford have been changed after players complained they couldn't see one another
* With fans not allowed in, United put in red sheeting around the pitch
* But the colour has been changed to avoid a clash with United's red shirts
* Solskjaer spoke of the issue after being asked why his team's home form was worse than their results on the road
* Ex United captain Gary Neville drew comparisons with the infamous grey shirt game at Southampton back in 1996

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has always been happy to follow the example of Sir Alex Ferguson, as the Manchester United manager admitted again on the eve of Thursday's Europa League quarter-final second leg against Granada.

So, almost 25 years to the day since Ferguson ordered his team to ditch their grey away kit at half-time at Southampton because they couldn't see each other on the pitch, it was apt that Solskjaer revealed United have changed the colour of the red banners around Old Trafford for the same reason.

The club made the switch at the start of this month, covering the empty seats in the lower tiers of the stadium with black-and-white 'United Against Racism' banners as part of the See Red campaign.

The lower tier seating at Old Trafford has been covered with a red wrapping with supporters not permitted to attend amid the Covid-19 pandemic

The red seat covering at Old Trafford contains quotes and other slogans. Solskjaer said United's players were sometimes unable to see red-shirted team-mates against the red backdrop in the stands. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the wrapping inside Old Trafford had been changed

According to Solskjaer, seeing red has been a problem for United, with the team's shirts clashing with the old backdrop.

The Norwegian believes it is one reason why United have been better away from home, putting together a 23-game unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and progressing to the last eight of the Europa League on the back of away wins against Real Sociedad and AC Milan.

'You'll see a change now,' said Solskjaer. 'You see the banners round the club, they're not red any more. We've looked into this.

Former United captain Gary Neville tweeted the comment was Solskjaer's 'Grey shirt moment' in reference to the game in 1996 when United swapped from a grey kit at half-time

United's players claimed they couldn't see each other during the 3-1 defeat to Southampton

'There shouldn't be any reason really, but some of the players have mentioned that split-second decision you have to make — looking over your shoulder to see if your team-mate is there or not — and the red shirt is on a red background with the red seats.

'So we have changed that along with an anti-racism campaign. It was important it wasn't red any more.'

It has led former United captain Gary Neville to compare the situation with the infamous grey shirt game at Southampton in 1996.

He tweeted: 'This is Ole's grey shirt moment.'

After establishing a 2-0 first-leg lead in Andalusia, United should reach the semi-finals for the second year in a row, despite being without Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay through suspension on Thursday.

Eric Cantona and his team-mates returned for the second-half at The Dell in another strip. United returned for the second half in blue and white colours but still lost the game 3-1

Solskjaer felt the five yellow cards shown to his players in the first leg — which brought a £6,000 fine from UEFA for 'improper conduct' on Wednesday — were a little harsh.

He defended the club, recalling a lesson from Ferguson following an incident in 1998 when he was sent off at Old Trafford for racing almost the length of the pitch to hack down Rob Lee in a game against Newcastle.

'Every manager has certain values,' said Solskjaer in response to a question about simulation and his criticism of Tottenham's Son Heung-min on Sunday.

'When I got sent off against Newcastle, I thought I'd done the right thing for the team.

'Sir Alex absolutely lambasted me after the game and said, "We don't win that way at Man United".

'I've lived by that ever since. We want to win in the right manner. We want to win playing by the book.'

Meanwhile, Solskjaer revealed United want to keep Jesse Lingard following his sensational performances on loan at West Ham.

He said: 'Jesse has been brilliant since he left. He's never once caused me a problem and he deserved a chance to play more football.

'Of course we want him back. I hope he goes to the Euros.'

Manchester United stars were left shocked at how easily angry fans were able to breach security after same group who attacked Ed Woodward's house stormed training ground amid European Super League backlash

* A mob of Manchester United fans mobbed the club's Carrington training ground
* United stars were shocked at how easily the mob was able to breach security
* A source told Sportsmail that the training base needs to beef up security
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Nemanja Matic confronted the 20-strong group

Manchester United stars were shocked at how easily angry fans were able to breach security at their Carrington training base before confronting manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Thursday.

The supporters protested against the club’s American owners over United’s role in the failed European Super League and challenged Solskjaer about why he did not speak out against it.

The group of around 20 fans belong to the self-styled ‘Men in Black’ who attacked United chief Ed Woodward’s house in Cheshire in January last year.

Solskjaer came out to try to placate them, accompanied by new technical director Darren Fletcher, coach Michael Carrick and 6ft 4in Serbia midfielder Nemanja Matic, on the condition that their conversation was not recorded.

Manchester United stars were shocked at the ease at which a mob entered their training base

The fans are said to have asked Solskjaer why he opposed the Glazer takeover when becoming a patron of Shareholders United while he was still a player in 2005, but did not join other Premier League managers in condemning the ESL, which collapsed earlier this week.

‘There was one meathead shouting the odds who soon piped down when Ole started talking to them,’ a source told Sportsmail.

‘But the players were concerned at how easily the fans got through. There weren’t enough security guards to keep away an angry group like that. It needs beefing up to stop this happening again.’

United would not comment on their security arrangements last night but a review is expected.

Furious supporters breached security to protest against the reviled European Super League. The failed £4.6bn plot has reignited demands for the unpopular Glazer family to sell up

The ‘Men in Black’ have also turned up at the homes of former Manchester United stars Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand in the past when they were in contract disputes with the club.

Woodward, who has confirmed he will stand down in the wake of the Super League fiasco, was not present at Carrington yesterday, even though he had been expected for meetings.

Despite a public apology from chairman Joel Glazer on Wednesday night, the group of protesters descended on the training ground at about 9am and blocked the entrances, before moving from the front security gate to the main building of the complex.

They got on to the first-team training pitch and gained access to the academy centre before posting photos on social media of themselves holding banners. The messages read: ‘Glazers Out’, ‘51% Utd’ — a reference to the German ownership model which gives fans a majority stake in a club — and ‘We Decide When You Play’. The latter is said to have particularly upset members of the United squad.

A source told Sportsmail that the club must beef up its security presence after the breach. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic confronted the mob

Some senior players, as well as members of the Under 23s and women’s team, were unable to get into the training ground while others en route to Carrington were contacted and told to stay away until the protest had finished.

United called the police, who sent officers in a squad car and riot van to monitor the situation but took no action.

The club issued a statement saying: ‘At approximately 9am a group gained access to the club training ground. The manager and others spoke to them. Buildings were secure and the group has now left the site.’

United also have security concerns for Sunday’s game at old rivals Leeds United.

The first Premier League fixture between the clubs at Elland Road in nearly 18 years will not be as highly charged as it would have been with fans in the stadium.

But Leeds supporters protested outside the ground when the Liverpool team bus arrived at Elland Road on Monday after it emerged that the Merseyside club were one of the six English teams who had signed up for the Super League.

Manchester United TRIPLE security presence at their training base and increase protection around senior executives amid concerns over anti-Glazer protests after fans stormed Carrington last week

* Manchester United have trebled their security presence at their training ground
* Supporters stormed Carrington to protest at the club's owners last week
* The club have also increased the protection around senior executives
* Fans demonstrated against the Glazers outside Old Trafford at the weekend

Manchester United have trebled security at their training base and increased protection around senior executives amid concerns over anti-Glazer protests.

Sportsmail revealed that United players and staff were shocked at how easily protesters were able to breach security at Carrington on Thursday before confronting manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Fans also demonstrated against the Glazers outside Old Trafford and flew a banner over Elland Road before Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Leeds calling for the American owners to go following the collapse of the European Super League.

The security company used by the club, Controlled Solutions Group, now has three times as many personnel on duty at Carrington as before, carrying out more stringent checks on staff and visitors around the complex.

It is understood that increased protection has also been offered to senior figures based in London.

Meanwhile, Eric Bailly has signed a new contract at United that ties him to the club until 2024, with the option for another year.

The Ivory Coast defender was believed to be concerned over his lack of playing time, with boss Solskjaer preferring Victor Lindelof as a defensive partner for Harry Maguire.

Bailly has struggled with injuries again this season and tested positive for Covid earlier this month, limiting him to just seven Premier League starts. But the 27-year-old is happy to have resolved his future, saying: ‘A new contract is like a new challenge and I’m ready for this.’

Manchester United 'hire two new London-based scouts' as part of their academy overhaul, which will focus on getting young UK talent into the first-team squad at Old Trafford

* Manchester United have reportedly hired two new London-based scouts
* The Red Devils are currently in the process of an overhaul of their youth set-up
* United want young UK talent into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad at Old Trafford
* United recently made a move for Palace recruitment specialist Jamahl Jarrett

Manchester United have hired two new members of staff to their scouting department who will be in charge of unearthing talent in 'the London area'.

The Red Devils are in the middle of a huge restructuring of their youth academy with a focus on homegrown talent, despite the recent exit of Nicky Butt as the head of first-team development.

Now, Manchester Evening News are reporting that United have hired two scouts to look for more homegrown talent in the capital.

John Murtough (left) and Darren Fletcher (right) are leading an overhaul of United's academy. They want more homegrown talent to find their way into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad

The two new scouts will focus their work and research in and around London as the club looks to find the next bright talent.

Notes from a recent fans' forum have come to light and show football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher discussed the club's scouting department.

They read: 'The northwest area remains important to ensure we convince the next Marcus (Rashford), Jesse (Lingard) or Mason (Greenwood) to play for United.

'The scouting network across the rest of the UK have also been strengthened. Recently, two new scouts have came on board to focus on the London area.

'The club's tradition of looking at bringing in the best 17/18 year olds from across the world will also continue.'

Man United have made their move for Crystal Palace's recruitment specialist Jamahl Jarrett

Sportsmail also revealed earlier this mont that United had made a move for Crystal Palace recruitment specialist Jamahl Jarrett.

A move for Jarrett, who is currently assistant head of academy recruitment at Selhurst Park, followed an attempt by United to take academy scout Stephen Ajewole from local rivals Manchester City.

United are ready to appoint Jarrett as a lead southern scout. David Harrison, who is currently United’s head of youth recruitment, has played a lead role in the expected appointments of Ajewole and Jarrett.

Manchester United build 10ft steel fence around Old Trafford in attempt to keep anti-Glazer protesters at bay ahead of Leicester clash after violent demonstrations that led to fans breaking into the ground and match with Liverpool being postponed

* Manchester United chiefs have moved to avoid repeat of violent demonstrations
* Supporters broke into the ground in shocking scenes earlier in May to protest
* The protest before a clash with Liverpool led to the game's postponement
* Now United have erected steel fences to keep the anti-Glazer protests at bay
* Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on fans to be peaceful if they protest

Manchester United have built a ring of steel around Old Trafford to keep out anti-Glazer protesters for Tuesday's game against Leicester and Thursday's visit of Liverpool.

The club are trying to prevent a repeat of the violent demonstrations that forced the Liverpool fixture to be postponed nine days ago and left six police officers injured.

A 10ft high red wall has been erected at the south-east corner of the stadium - where protesters twice broke in and got onto the pitch - as well the north forecourt in front of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. Additional steel barriers have also been put in place as part of the heightened security operation.

Manchester United have erected 10ft high fences to keep out protesters at Old Trafford

On Tuesday night against Leicester City, Old Trafford will be looking to host its first Premier League game since a violent demonstration led to their match with Liverpool being postponed. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has again urged United supporters to keep any protests peaceful

United were reluctant to take such extreme measures, but felt they had no choice in the circumstances. Having prepared for a peaceful protest last time and seen it descend into violence, the club wanted to ensure the two games went ahead safely this week.

Further demonstrations are expected against the club's American owners, although it's understood there is more concern around the re-arranged Liverpool game than Tuesday's match against Leicester.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reiterated his plea for peace and calm after seeing it largely ignored by fans who attacked police and forced their way into Old Trafford.

Supporters and police clashed in violent scenes outside Old Trafford in the build up to United's Premier League clash with Liverpool earlier in May

'Security measures are being looked at and I hope we can keep the protests - if there are protests - down to loud voices and nothing violent,' said Solskjaer.

'We want to listen, the players want to play the game. We're playing Liverpool and, of course, we want to beat Liverpool and we want to beat Leicester.

'So we're going to do everything we can for our fans to celebrate what we're doing on the pitch.' Greater Manchester Police are on standby in case of more trouble after one officer suffered a life-changing eye injury during the last protest.

A GMP spokesman said: 'We have reviewed our approach again following the events of last weekend and planned appropriate resourcing to ensure the safety of all those present.' Meanwhile, Solskjaer insists it's unfair to blame him if he puts out a weakened team against the Foxes for the first of two games in the space of 50 hours.

Having fielded a strong line-up at Aston Villa on Sunday, the United boss is expected to make a number of changes against Leicester who are battling with Liverpool for a top-four place.

'Talking about integrity in the league and stuff, don't blame me when I have to make changes because I have to,' he said.

'That's the hard bit for me, knowing if I do play this 11 on Tuesday and then again on Thursday it's impossible. I run too much of a risk in injuring them. I have to prioritise.'

Manchester United to install new floodlights at Old Trafford and Carrington as Glazers commit to £11M summer schedule of works... while Graeme Souness upsets his neighbour AGAIN over development plans in Dorset

* Man United will carry out work on installing new floodlights during the summer
* Old Trafford and Carrington training ground will benefit from investment of £11m

Manchester United are to install new floodlights at both Old Trafford and Carrington as part of an £11million schedule of works this summer.

Club officials will also oversee the arrival of 1,500 barrier seats as United seek to improve the atmosphere with the aid of ‘safe standing’. The home and away dressing-room areas, long since in need of an upgrade, will also be renovated while a new, Covid-secure digital access and ticketing system will be rolled out.

Fresh pitches and facilities for the men and women’s teams at the training ground are also on the list, while new disabled facilities have already been completed.

Manchester United will install new floodlights at Old Trafford and Carrington this summer. The Glazers' previous failure to invest has been the source of discontent among supporters

The moves come at a time when United’s American owners have come under increased fire from fed-up supporters, with lack of investment in the stadium and facilities one of many gripes.

Indeed, a door smashed by protesting supporters, which allowed them to enter Old Trafford and force the postponement of the Liverpool match last month, was left boarded up for weeks. The door has recently been repaired, with United saying it was custom-made and not ‘off-shelf’.

‘We’ve been trying to get the Glazers out for 15 years without success, so it’s no wonder the club have struggled to do the same,’ one fan joked.
