'They need to look at Ed Woodward... what is his position?': Paul Ince questions Manchester United chief as former midfield general says club 'lack direction'

* Man United suffered another defeat as they were beaten 2-0 by West Ham
* Chief Executive Ed Woodward has come under fire as United show no progress
* Former midfield general Paul Ince is the latest to criticise the Old Trafford chief
* Ince said that Chelsea already have a clearer vision under Frank Lampard

Paul Ince has slammed Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward after the club displayed another underwhelming performance on the weekend.

United were comfortably beaten 2-0 away to West Ham in what was a miserable afternoon for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

And while in years gone by, the manager would be on the receiving end of the majority of criticism, fans are beginning to turn on club chief Woodward. Since taking over as chief executive, Woodward has overseen a poor spell at the club, having hired and fired three managers.

Paul Ince has called into question the role of Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward

Ince has added to a growing list of pundits and former players to slam the former JP Morgan man. In his column for Paddy Power, the 51-year-old laid out a plan for what Manchester United need.

'What United need is someone who knows where to find Manchester United players, where the hidden gems are, and knows how to get them,' he said.

'Because, currently, United are being held to ransom. Harry Maguire is a terrific player, but £80million? They’re being forced to pay over the odds to get top players.

'United probably need to hire four or five people who can go out and start building blocks. It might take a year or two, but at least they’d be moving forwards.'

Ed Woodward has come under fire for his tenure as chief executive at Old Trafford. Fans are growing impatient with the club chief instead of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ince said that United need a clear vision as seen at Stamford Bridge with new boss Lampard

Ince also called into question the role of Woodward, the man responsible for spending the money at Old Trafford.

'They also need to look at Ed Woodward, what his position is, and what he’s doing to get the club going in the right direction.'

The Guvnor drew comparisons of United with Chelsea who, under new boss Frank Lampard, are entertaining fans at Stamford Bridge with a vibrant, young side, that may not always get positive results.

'I think of Ole in the same way as I do Frank Lampard,' Ince said. 'Two young managers, lacking experience, thrown into two massive clubs. But if you gave me the choice of who I’d rather be watching this season, it’d be Chelsea all day long – and that hurts me as a former United captain.'

'At least when I look at Chelsea, I see what they’re trying to do, the way they play, their identity – they’re pressing high, getting tight, and creating chances. They can only get better.

'Can anybody tell me what United are trying to do? Because I have no idea. They’re so reliant on the young lad Daniel James – who is brilliant, but was in the Championship with Swansea last season – it’s crazy.'

United will be hoping to bounce back from their West Ham misery as they return to action on Wednesday when they face Rochdale in the Carabao Cup

'Mandzukic Bukan Solusi Krisis MU'
Putra Rusdi K - detikSport

Jakarta - Paul Ince yakin mendatangkan Mario Mandzukic takkan mengatasi krisis Manchester United. Setan Merah lebih baik merekrut penyerang muda.

MU mengawali musim ini dengan mengecewakan. Mereka terbenam di urutan ke-12 klasemen Liga Inggris dengan baru mengumpulkan sembilan angka dari sembilan laga.

Tumpulnya lini depan dianggap jadi faktor utama penyebab keterpurukan MU.

'You can sense that he wishes he'd gone somewhere else, so just let him go': Paul Ince insists Paul Pogba does NOT want to be at Manchester United as he urges club to cash in on star

* Paul Pogba does not want to be at Manchester United, according to Paul Ince
* Ince, himself a Manchester United legend, says Pogba should be sold in January
* Pogba has only started five league matches this season due to a series of injuries
* Ince says the Frenchman 'is not bothered about being the captain of Man United'

Paul Ince has urged Manchester United to cash in on Paul Pogba and sell the disinterested star in the January transfer window.

Pogba was brought back to Old Trafford for a second spell in 2016 but it hasn't worked out for the Frenchman and he has only started five Premier League games so far this season.

Ince, himself a Manchester United legend, believes Pogba does not want to be at the club and should be sold as soon as possible.

'The fact is, though, when Pogba plays and he plays well there's no way Ole would drop him. Really, he should be the talisman of that team,' Ince told Paddy Power.

'He should be enthused and excited by the fact that the team could be built around him and he could be the main man, but he doesn't seem interested in that to me.

'He's not bothered about being the captain of Man United. It doesn't excite him to be the talisman of that team.

Paul Pogba does not want to be at Manchester United, according to club legend Paul Ince. Ince says that Pogba should be sold after the 'Return of the Prodigal Son' didn't work out. Pogba has only started five league matches this season due to series of hampering injuries

'It feels as though we all bought into the romance of him returning to Man United. But it's never really happened for him, has it? It's not gone the way either he or the club wanted it to go. I would say he regrets making the move, now.

'You can sense that he wishes he'd gone somewhere else, so just let him go.

'The Return of the Prodigal Son stuff never quite worked out – but people would have more respect for him if he just came out and said that it hasn't played out how he wanted it to.'

Default Re: Paul Ince

Paul Ince says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be 'seriously regretting' letting Romelu Lukaku leave Man United after main striker Marcus Rashford suffered injury setback and failure to sign Erling Haaland was 'embarrassing'

* Marcus Rashford will be sidelined for three months after suffering back injury
* Striker had supplied 19 goals for Man United this season and was top scorer
* His absence will leave United thin in attack for the remainder of the season
* It came after they allowed Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to leave in summer
* United failed to replace them and missed out on signing Erling Haaland

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be 'seriously regretting' his failure to replace Romelu Lukaku last summer now that Marcus Rashford is injured, according to Paul Ince.

United's attack has been severely blunted now that their 19-goal leading scorer Rashford is set to be sidelined for three months with a back injury.

It has only served to highlight the lack of forward planning at Old Trafford last summer when they sold Lukaku to Inter Milan and also allowed Alexis Sanchez to leave on loan.

Rashford's absence leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer light on reliable attacking options. United allowed Romelu Lukaku to join Inter Milan last summer and didn't replace him. Former United midfielder Paul Ince believes Solskjaer will 'seriously regret' losing Lukaku

Now the burden will fall on Anthony Martial and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood as United try and shake off the inconsistency that has plagued their season.

'If Ole wasn't already regretting letting Romelu Lukaku go, he seriously will be now,' former United midfielder Ince told Paddy Power.

'I'll be the first to admit that I had a go at him at times, and he can't retain the ball, but you do get 20-25 goals a season from him.

'United let him go without replacing him and now they're paying the price. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but, really, Ole should never have let him go.'

Solskjaer hinted that he may have to dip into the transfer market during the closing days of this month's window to try and make up the shortfall of goals now Rashford is injured.

United failed in their pursuit of the Norwegian wonderkid Erling Braut Haaland, who opted to sign for Borussia Dortmund, something Ince has described as 'embarrassing.'

'A new signing in January has become a must,' he said. 'It's not that they need to - they absolutely have to.

'It kind of makes Erling Braut Haaland even more embarrassing and a pain in the arse than it already was, especially after we saw his debut hat-trick [against Augsburg on Saturday].

'Because if they don't sign someone, who's going to get you goals?

'We saw the sitter that Anthony Martial missed against Liverpool. It's simply not good enough. He should be burying that, if that had fallen to Rashford I'm confident that would've been a goal.

United lost out to Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Erling Braut Haaland this month. Haaland took home the matchball on his Dortmund debut after scoring a treble in Augsburg

'With Rashford out, you can't trust Martial will make up those goals. Mason Greenwood is great, but he's young, untried and untested. You can't put that level of pressure on such a great player.'

United continue their attempt to finish in the Premier League top four with a home fixture against Burnley on Wednesday night. They are currently five points behind fourth-place Chelsea.

Default Re: Paul Ince

Paul Ince says title rivals' inconsistency 'could fall into Manchester United's hands'... as ex-Old Trafford star admits he 'didn't think Solskjaer was right for the job' but is now 'excited' by his team

* Manchester United have recovered from a sticky start to mount a title challenge
* The Old Trafford side are now second in the Premier League after 16 games
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job looked to be in danger earlier this season
* He has recovered and Paul Ince admits he's been surprised by the progress

Manchester United look on-course for a title challenge and nobody is more surprised than Paul Ince, who has admitted he never thought the Norwegian should have taken charge.

Solskjaer was on the ropes earlier this season after a disastrous start to 2020-21, with results such as the 6-1 hammering from Jose Mourinho's Spurs causing alarm.

A 10-game unbeaten run and slip-ups from their rivals have seen United shoot back into the title race, looking among the strongest candidates less than three months on from their Old Trafford humiliation from Spurs.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned Manchester United from lowly strugglers to title contenders. United are steaming towards a title challenge, sitting second after a 10-game unbeaten run

After United's emergence Ince is expecting a tense title race, revealing he was unimpressed by United replacing Mourinho with the inexperienced Solskjaer back in March 2019.

'I see it being really exciting,' the former United and Liverpool star said on the title race, speaking on Sky Sports punditry duty.

'In the past couple seasons where we've spoke about United in more of a rebuilding phase and they've changed so many managers.

'I was one at the start who said about Ole. I didn't think he was the right man for the job at the time.

Paul Ince has been shocked by their rapid turnaround and admitted he doubted Solskjaer

'You think about Louis van Gaal, David Moyes, Mourinho – big experienced managers dealing with a massive club. I wasn't sure about bringing Ole in on a full-time basis.

'He's been inconsistent at times but he's being very consistent at the moment. He's doing very, very well. To see him up there is unexpected because I thought it would be two to three years.'

The title race looks to be wide open with all the contenders having experienced a crisis at some stage already this season. Liverpool were mauled 7-2 by Aston Villa, Chelsea were stunned by Arsenal and Manchester City endured a 5-2 loss to Leicester.

United haven't properly challenged for the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson quit. This could be their chance.

'Maybe it's because of this strange season and teams dropping in their performances,' Ince added.

'We've seen a lot of inconsistency and that can fall into Manchester United's hands.'

Default Re: Paul Ince

Paul Ince calls on Manchester United to make an audacious swoop for Sergio Aguero on a free transfer this summer... and compares signing the Manchester City star to Eric Cantona's acrimonious move from Leeds in 1992

* Paul Ince has suggested Man United could make a move for Sergio Aguero
* The Argentine's City future is in doubt after struggling with injuries this season
* Ince said it would be similar to United signing Eric Cantona from Leeds in 1992
* Aguero's Etihad contract is set to expire at the end of the season after 10 years

Paul Ince has called on Manchester United to make an audacious move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero on a free transfer this summer.

The Argentine has written himself into City folklore during his 10 years in England, scoring a club record 257 goals to fire United's fierce rivals to four Premier League trophies - including his stoppage-time winner to seal the title at the expense of the Red Devils in 2012.

But Aguero's future at the Etihad is in doubt with his contract expiring in the summer and former United star Ince thinks his former club could surprise everyone by signing the striker in a bombshell transfer reminiscent of Eric Cantona's acrimonious switch from fierce rivals Leeds in 1992.

'It's not as if Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are the only two answers for Man United,' Ince said in an interview with Ladbrokes.

'Sergio Aguero might be leaving Man City, why shouldn't United make a move for him?

'You could see it now; if he wanted to stay in the Premier League and he's living in Manchester, then I don't think it would be a bad thing at all if they went and got Aguero.

'It can happen, who knows? You've got to ask the question if you're United because you never know.

'It happened with us back in 1992 when Howard Wilkinson was asking Sir Alex Ferguson about Denis Irwin.

'Fergie said there'd be no chance of that happening and suggested Leeds sold Cantona to them and within a couple of days that deal was done.

'It was just Fergie throwing a name out there and taking a chance, trying his luck. Maybe that's what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should do with Aguero this summer.'

Cantona went on to be one of the most influential signings in United's history following his £1.2million move, scoring 81 goals and inspiring Ferguson's side to four top-flight titles during his five years at Old Trafford.

Paul Ince says Manchester United could make a surprise move for Sergio Aguero (pictured). Ince compared United signing Aguero to Eric Cantona's surprise move in 1992. Aguero's City future is in doubt after just eight Premier League appearances so far this season

Aguero's contract at City is set to expire at the end of the season, and this week Sky Sports reported that Pep Guardiola's side had identified Southampton's Danny Ings as a possible replacement should he leave.

City are also said to be one of the frontrunners to sign the highly-coveted Haaland after the 20-year-old's goalscoring exploits for Borussia Dortmund.

Aguero has played just eight Premier League matches this season due to knee and hamstring injuries, as well as testing positive for Covid-19. His penalty in City's 3-0 win against Fulham this month was his first goal of the domestic campaign.

A move to the Sky Blues' cross-city rivals would bring to mind Carlos Tevez's controversial swap in the other direction following Sheikh Mansour's takeover in 2008.

Aguero's compatriot signed for City in 2009 after two seasons at United, during which time he helped them win the Champions League.

City rubbed their rivals' noses in it with a famous 'Welcome to Manchester' sky blue poster showing Tevez celebrating, which was unveiled in the city centre.

Tevez went on to spend four years at United's 'noisy neighbours' and captained them to FA Cup glory and also played a part in their first Premier League triumph.

emang sih gratis cuma Aguero dah tua + sering cedera dan masalahnya emang Aguero mau pindah ke United?
