'Thanks for the memories but your time is over': Manchester United fans livid after David de Gea makes woeful error as he lets in Mason Mount's effort in FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea

* Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea made a woeful error v Chelsea
* With Chelsea leading 1-0, de Gea allowed Mason Mount's effort to get past him
* Some United fans took to Twitter to express their frustration with de Gea

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea made another howler during his side's FA Cup semi-final defeat against Chelsea at Wembley, and the club's supporters were not happy about it.

Chelsea went ahead courtesy of a Olivier Giroud strike which de Gea should have dealt with better.

But there were more questions about de Gea's role in Chelsea's second, scored by Mason Mount just after half-time.

United defender Brandon Williams lost possession, with Mount latching onto the loose pass.

David de Gea made a woeful error as Manchester United took on Chelsea at Wembley. De Gea somehow allowed Mason Mount's effort to get the better of him early in the second half

Mount burst forward and then shot from outside the area, with the effort catching de Gea offguard.

The Spaniard would have been expected to have stopped Mount's sot but was unable to keep it out of his net.

De Gea, who was making his first appearance in the FA Cup this season, has received much criticism for his form this campaign and Sunday's mistakes will not have done him any favours.

Supporters were quick to condemn de Gea's performances on social media with one United fan writing on Twitter: 'De Gea thanks for the memories but your time is over' and posted a picture of Dean Henderson, who has impressed on loan at Sheffield United.

Another United fan suggested that Sergio Romero, who was on the bench and has played in most cup games this term, should have started instead.

Chelsea went on to win the match 3-1 with Harry Maguire's own goal adding to Giroud and Mount's earlier strikes.

Bruno Fernandes was able to score a late consolation from the spot for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

The win saw the Blues set up an all-London FA Cup final against Arsenal.

'I was flabbergasted, he's not in a position to be defended': Rio Ferdinand issues a scathing verdict of old team-mate David de Gea and says he 'should be doing better' as it emerges the Spaniard could be AXED for Manchester United's run-in

* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing renewed pressure to drop David de Gea
* His blunder in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea has put his future in doubt
* Rio Ferdinand admitted there is no way to defend his former United team-mate
* Manchester United are expected to hold talks with Dean Henderson next week

Rio Ferdinand has admitted his former Manchester United team-mate David de Gea should be performing at a higher level than he is currently following his howler in their 3-1 FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing renewed pressure to drop the Spaniard after he allowed a hopeful Mason Mount effort to go past him and double the Blues' advantage at Wembley.

The blunder has also placed a question mark over the 29-year-old Spaniard's long-term future at the club.

That is particularly due to the fact that highly-rated Dean Henderson is expected to hold talks with United about returning to Old Trafford next season following his loan spell at Sheffield United.

Rio Ferdinand has admitted Man United keeper David de Gea should be performing better. The Spaniard made another blunder in United's FA Cup semi-final exit to Chelsea on Sunday. Ferdinand played with De Gea for three seasons at Old Trafford after the latter arrived in 2011

There have also been reports in the Sun that De Gea could be axed for the crucial games against West Ham and Leicester as United bid for a Champions League place.

It is being suggested that he could be replaced in the line-up by Sergio Romero, who missed out on the Cup semi-final.

And Ferdinand - who played with De Gea at Old Trafford for three seasons following the Spaniard's arrival in the summer of 2011 - admitted he was 'flabbergasted' by what he saw from United' first-choice keeper and that he could not defend the mistakes he is making.

'When people make mistakes, they're open to criticism. That's just natural, that is just how football is,' Ferdinand told BT Sport.

'David de Gea is no exception. He's made mistakes, glaring mistakes in some big games, notably the game against Chelsea in the semi-final at Wembley.

'Yes, he should be doing better. I have played with David, he's his own biggest critic.

'He'll be sitting at home mulling over these, going through the situations and making sure that he tries to get rid of these mistakes that he is committing at the moment.

'I watched these games with my boys at home and I was flabbergasted to see them go past David because he's a top-drawer goalkeeper.

'It is disappointing really, as a Manchester United fan you want to defend your player but at the moment he is not in a position to be defended in that respect.'

However, Ferdinand urged De Gea to call upon the character he summoned to defy the doubters when he first arrived in the country to turn his form around.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing renewed pressure to drop the 29-year-old from his starting XI. And Ferdinand told BT Sport he was 'flabbergasted' by what he saw from his former team-mate

Ferdinand also warned his former club there is no simple fix in the transfer market and that they should consequently persevere with the man who will next season enter his 10th year as a United player.

Ferdinand continued: 'Has David de Gea been making mistakes? Yes he has made mistakes. Is he low on confidence? Yes he is low on confidence, but has he got the character to come back?

'Has he proved his character in years gone by? Yes he has, when he came to Manchester United, he was a 19-year-old, there were question marks straight away about 'is he good enough?', 'is he too slim', 'is he too frail', 'he's not ready to be Man United's goalkeeper'.'

However, the former centre-back urged De Gea to call upon the character he has used before. He warned Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak would be the only world-class replacement for de Gea

'He dispelled all those things that were said about him through character, hard work, determination and, above anything else, quality. He has been player of the year four out of the last six years. When there was inconsistency at Manchester United, he was the consistent factor all the time there.'

'Yes he's had a bad spell, confidence is low, but does that mean you go out and get rid of him? Who are you gonna get? Who is out there who is actually able to be bought right now and who is going to be a world-class goalkeeper right now at Manchester United?'

'The only I see is [Jan] Oblak, but can you get him out of Atletico Madrid? And if you do how much are you going to have to spend? An obscene amount of money. I say stick with him [De Gea], he has earned that right to be stuck with.'

'Going back could be a thing of beauty': Kevin Campbell warns David de Gea's latest blunder for Manchester United could open the door for Dean Henderson... as Michael Brown says young goalkeeper will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'an ultimatum' over No 1 spot

* Kevin Campbell said David de Gea's mistakes could open door for Henderson
* De Gea made yet another blunder for Manchester United in FA Cup semi-final
* Meanwhile, Dean Henderson has impressed during loan spell at Sheffield United
* Michael Brown said that the young goalkeeper will not be second best at United

Former Premier League star Kevin Campbell has warned that David de Gea's recent mistakes for Manchester United could open the door for on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The Spaniard made yet another blunder in the Reds Devil's 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Chelsea, as he fumbled Mason Mount's strike early in the second half.

Meanwhile, Henderson has been impressing during his season on loan at Sheffield United, as he has kept firm between the sticks as Chris Wilder's side have made an unlikely push for Europa League qualification.

Former Everton star Kevin Campbell has warned that David de Gea's place could in doubt. David de Gea made yet another blunder in Manchester United's FA Cup semi-final defeat

The 23-year-old is set to return to Old Trafford after the current season is completed and many believe it could be the time for him to succeed De Gea as United's first-choice stopper.

Campbell said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could have a dilemma on his hands once Henderson returns.

'Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cant mess about with that number one spot,' he explained to Amazon Prime.

'David De Gea has been amazing but mistakes are now creeping in and he will get real competition.

'Him going back to United could be a thing of beauty.'

Meanwhile, Dean Henderson has impressed on loan at Sheffield United from Old Trafford. Former Blades midfielder Michael Brown said Henderson will give United 'an ultimatum'

Former Blades midfielder Michael Brown admitted that he has been very impressed with Henderson this season and said that he will not sit on the bench if he isn't made first-choice at Old Trafford.

'Henderson he will give them an ultimatum at United, he will not sit around as second best. He will challenge Ole to get minutes and will not be afraid to leave.'

Sheffield United are still interested in keeping the young goalkeeper for at least one more season, but it is unknown where he could end up.

'It would be huge (to keep him at Sheffield United), they’d love to have his quality here,' Brown added.

'He is totally complacent': Manchester United icon Paul Ince lays into David de Gea for making 'schoolboy errors' and claims the goalkeeper has 'lost his hunger' with Dean Henderson 'waiting in the wings' to take the No 1 spot

* Paul Ince believes David de Gea has become complacent this season
* The Manchester United goalkeeper made another error against Chelsea
* Ince thinks Dean Henderson should be brought back to challenge the No1
* The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United

Manchester United icon Paul Ince believes David de Gea is making 'schoolboy errors' and thinks Dean Henderson should be brought back to challenge the No1 goalkeeper.

The spotlight was on De Gea again on Sunday after he let Mason Mount's shot slip through his hands as United fell to a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

The previously reliable shot-stopper has been under pressure since the return of football following his error in the first game back against Tottenham.

The Spaniard could only palm Steven Bergwijn's shot into the roof of the net, a mistake that left Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane so angry he suggested he should not be allowed to travel back on the team bus.

And now another ex-United player has had his say on the 'keeper. Ince, who won ten trophies in six years at Old Trafford, believes the 29-year-old is making basic errors.

'Any mistake you make, as a goalkeeper, will always be magnified,' he told Paddy Power.

David De Gea was in the spotlight once again after making another costly error for his side. The goalkeeper allowed Mason Mount's shot to slip through his grasp in the defeat to Chelsea

'We know that, but what we’re seeing from David de Gea at the minute are basic, schoolboy errors. They are errors that someone on his wage and at his level simply should not be making – and not for the first time, too.

'If you go and look at the season, there’s several absolutely horrendous mistakes that just shouldn’t be happening. When you make mistakes like that, you have to come out in the next couple of games and stand up and be counted – to nullify that criticism – but it seems like he isn’t capable of doing that at the moment.

'You need to prove you’re the number one goalkeeper. He made a couple of decent saves yesterday against Chelsea, but the fact is, in big games you expect that. In those big games, the best keepers in the world aren’t making mistakes to begin with.'

The 29-year-old has endured another frustrating season with several high profile mistakes. Paul Ince believes the Spaniard has become complacent because of a lack of competition. The former United man believes Dean Henderson should be brought back to challenge him

Ince believes the reason for De Gea's poor form is a lack of competition and suggested that Henderson should be brought back to challenge for the No 1 shirt.

The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United and has managed to force his way into Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Ince added: 'He [De Gea] is totally complacent. Sergio Romero only plays once in a blue moon, but Dean Henderson is waiting in the wings, and the manager needs to create a bit of a challenge and competition at the club.

'Right now, De Gea knows there’s no challenger to him, that he will be the first name on the team sheet, and he’s playing like someone who knows that, too.

'As a player, if you think you’re going to play every game, it leads to complacency.

'For me, Dean Henderson would be the answer. He’s playing well, getting game time, and it’s something which Ole needs to look at.

'He needs to give De Gea that challenge and drive, and this lad could be the answer. Henderson’s got the hunger and desire to get into that top spot at United, too.

'While maybe it’s a case of De Gea signing the massive contract he did, and he thinks his job is done – he’s lost a bit of that hunger. He needs to come out now, fighting, and show us what an incredible keeper we all know he is.'

'In the last 12 months there have been a consistency of errors from him': Mark Bosnich claims David de Gea has technical flaws and believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should drop Man United No 1 for Sergio Romero

* David de Gea's starting spot at Manchester United is under threat for his errors
* The Spaniard's lapses cost United two goals in their 3-1 defeat by Chelsea
* The FA Cup mistakes aren't the first he - also blundered against Spurs in June
* Former United keeper Mark Bosnich has highlighted the 29-year-old's flaws

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should take note of David de Gea's technical flaws and consider benching him, ex-Manchester United keeper Mark Bosnich has said.

The Spaniard's clumsy keeping cost United in their 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, with De Gea letting a tame Olivier Giroud effort in before his howler allowed Mason Mount's long-range strike over the line.

It's not the first time De Gea has let his team down this season, with the Spaniard also spilling Steven Bergwijn's stike in United's 1-1 draw with Spurs in June - prompting a memorable rant from Roy Keane and more questions over his ability.

David De Gea could lose his spot as Manchester United's No 1 after his errors in the FA Cup. The Spaniard spilled Mason Mount's tame long-range effort to let Chelsea take a 2-0 lead. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must now consider his spot, with Mark Bosnich highlighting his flaws

Once touted as the world's best goalkeeper, many pundits and fans are now calling for back-up Sergio Romero to replace De Gea between the sticks.

'I spoke some weeks ago after that error against Tottenham and I spoke about it from a technical point of view how he seems to be pushing all his balance going forward with his feet,' Bosnich, who had two spells at Old Trafford from 1989- 1991 and 1999-2001, told Sky Sports.

'Especially for the second goal, you pretty much saw that again - that's why he dived backwards.

Mike Bosnich had two spell at Manchester United and thinks De Gea could be dropped

De Gea also failed to stop a simple effort from Olivier Giroud to open the scoring on Sunday

De Gea also spilled a shot from Steven Bergwijn to gift Spurs a 1-1 draw against United in June

'Either he is moving just before they shoot, or more likely that his balance is a little bit too lopsided. Once you start diving backwards as a goalkeeper, you are in big trouble.

'He's been fantastic for Manchester United over a long period, there's no doubt about that.

'But in these last eight to 12 months there have been a consistency of errors from him that we have not seen before.

'Ole's got to seriously weigh up does he bring in Romero for these final two games. That's a huge decision he's got to make.'

Solskjaer wants to stick by the Spaniard despite his errors, coming out in support of him

Solskjaer intends to stick by De Gea, saying after the game in support of the 29-year-old: 'It is done. Move on. I know he is a mentally strong person and goalkeeper.'

Despite their once rock-solid keeper's decline, United sit within inches of Champions League qualification - lying level on points and goal difference with fourth-placed Leicester ahead of facing West Ham on Wednesday.

Even with defeat to the Hammers, United can still secure a top-four spot in their final match of the campaign when they face Brendan Rodgers' out-of-form side.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to back under-fire goalkeeper David de Gea following Chelsea FA Cup semi-final nightmare and could drop Spaniard for Premier League clash with West Ham

* David de Gea had arguably his worst game for Manchester United on Sunday
* Spaniard made numerous errors and looked a shadow of his former self
* He allowed Olivier Giroud's opener to squirm tamely past him in first half
* Then inexplicably failed to keep out relatively routine Mason Mount effort
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stuck up for De Gea but could be replaced as his No 1

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to say if David de Gea will play against West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday night as he faces calls to axe Manchester United's under-fire goalkeeper.

Solskjaer must choose between backing De Gea or dropping him in favour of Sergio Romero and the United manager insisted he will make a decision that is right for the club.

Sources close to De Gea are confident the Spaniard will keep his place despite being guilty of more errors in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final defeat by Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not know if David de Gea will start for Man United versus West Ham. De Gea was at fault in Manchester United's 3-1 defeat by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final

But having heralded his goalkeeper as 'the best in the world' in recent weeks, and claimed that it never crossed his mind to leave out De Gea during another difficult spell last season, Solskjaer struck a more cautious tone on Tuesday.

Asked if he could say whether De Gea will start on Wednesday evening, he replied: 'No, because I don't want to talk about it. David is mentally strong enough to know his job is to perform in training and be ready for the games.

'We're going to stick together as a group and he's proven before he's mentally strong. We'll see the team before kick-off.

'This is not going to become a David de Gea press conference. We're not going to talk about individuals because no one will feel we put pressure on them.'

De Gea allowed Mason Mount's long-range effort past him as the lead was doubled. Sergio Romero could yet come in and start in goal if Solskjaer drops under-fire De Gea

Solskjaer insisted he is prepared to make a tough decision if needed as United compete for a top-four finish in a race with Chelsea and Leicester City — their opponents in Sunday's final Premier League fixture.

'You have to,' he added. 'Every position is a big one here so you've got to do what is right for the team. We'll do that for the last two games and then, when the season is over, we'll make more decisions.'

Meanwhile, West Ham manager David Moyes has said Declan Rice is a future club captain and is not for sale - which is a blow to Chelsea, who hope to sign him.

Chelsea are willing to offer Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley as part of a deal for Rice, but Moyes says the midfielder is in his plans for next season.

Rice is contracted to 2024 and paid £40,000 per week and Moyes said: 'I'm confident he will be here. He's under contract. Like anything else, even the biggest clubs sometimes sell their best players because they get the right value.

'But my intention is not to sell Declan. He is a future captain when Mark Noble finishes so we don't want to let him go. If it does come, it will need to be Bank of England money.

'You talk about everything before any game': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he DID consider dropping under fire goalkeeper David de Gea after his FA Cup howler for Manchester United

* Manchester United face West Ham as they hunt Champions League qualification
* Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed under-fire keeper David de Ga
* The Spaniard has made several high-profile mistakes in recent matches

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backed out-of-form goalkeeper David Dea to come good for Manchester United ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against West Ham.

Dea Gea, 29, has made several high-profile blunders in recent games, including two mistakes as his side lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.

Yet Solskjaer, whose side are fifth on goal difference with two games to play in their race for the Champions League, hailed De Gea but also warned that he considered his choices before each game.

David de Gea earned the support of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after suffering a recent dip in form. The Manchester United goalkeeper has been criticised after several mistakes this season

Solskjaer said: 'You talk about everything before any game, but David has proven himself over many years.

'Form might be temporary but class is permanent and he is an absolutely top keeper.

'He has dealt with these situations for nine seasons now so he’s fine.'

Patrice Evra also leapt to the defence of his former team-mate and insisted he still had plenty to offer at the highest level.

He said: 'Of course he is the best goalkeeper. I am a little bit sad about the criticism, he he deserves a little but not it all.

'To say he is the most overrated keeper is a little bit harsh.'

'It's a lonely position, I really feel for him': Kasper Schmeichel launches an impassioned defence of under fire David de Gea as Leicester and Manchester United get set for their crunch top four showdown

* David de Gea came under criticism after Man United's FA Cup exit to Chelsea
* The Spaniard was blamed for two of the goals which followed previous errors
* But his Leicester counterpart Kasper Schmeichel has come to his defence
* The Dane also said Dean Henderson should not be brought back to United yet
* He is on loan at Sheffield United but could come back to challenge de Gea

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has launched an impassioned defence of David de Gea following criticism of his Manchester United counterpart's form.

The Spaniard made one particularly high-profile error in United's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea last weekend by allowing Mason Mount's hopeful shot to make its way past him, and was also slightly criticised for not managing to keep out Olivier Giroud's opener.

Moreover, incidents such as Steven Bergwijn's goal for Tottenham in United's first game back following the restart, have raised doubts about the 29-year-old's long-term future at Old Trafford.

[Kasper Schmeichel has come to the defence of under-fire Man United keeper David de Gea. Schmeichel's Leicester face de Gea's United in a shootout for a spot in the Champions League

De Gea could also face pressure for the No 1 shirt next season with the future of Dean Henderson - currently on loan at Sheffield United - yet to be decided.

But ahead of the Foxes' decisive clash with United on the final day of the season - which will determine which of the two sides qualifies for next season's Champions League - Schmeichel has come to the staunch defence of his fellow shot stopper.

The Dane told Sky Sports: 'It can be very difficult and you've got to remember, and this is with absolutely no disrespect to journalists or pundits, but you've actually never stood in that goal.

The Spaniard was blamed for two of Chelsea's three goals in United's FA Cup semi-final loss. But Schmeichel has sympathised with his fellow keeper and and said de Gea is still world class. De Gea, 29, could also face competition from Dean Henderson at Old Trafford next season. But Schmeichel believes Henderson should be allowed to develop further at Bramall Lane

'You hear comments like, 'going with the wrong hand', or other throw away things that they'll say which will make the consumer or viewer think, 'oh yeah, that's right, I see he's done it again'.

'That's sometimes quite a dangerous narrative because all of a sudden it starts building momentum and for someone like David, I really feel for him because he has been unbelievable for so many years and every goalkeeper goes through periods [of poor form].

'David de Gea is still a world-class goalkeeper. It's a lonely position and those are the margins you play in as a goalkeeper - you simply cannot make mistakes because you will be punished.'

Schmeichel also insisted he has different fears for Henderson, citing the pressure young English goalkeepers come under, but the Dane hopes he will be given a couple more years to develop at Bramall Lane before returning to United.

'There is a lot of pressure also in the sense that you now have an England goalkeeper coming through and, like it or not, in this country when you have an English goalkeeper, that means so much and they really do tend to build them up,' Schmeichel continued.

'I genuinely hope for someone like Dean Henderson, who's had an amazing season, that he can be allowed to develop. I hope for him, he gets another season, maybe two at Sheffield United and play the way he's done and then he'll be ready.'

'We should be saying what a great goalkeeper we have': Spain boss Luis Enrique heaps praise on David de Gea after the under-pressure Manchester United stopper signals a return to form in Nations League draw with Germany

* Luis Enrique praised David de Gea after he impressed for Spain versus Germany
* Enrique feels that some of the criticism that De Gea has received is unwarranted
* De Gea faces a battle to keep his place in the Manchester United starting lineup

Luis Enrique has jumped to the defence of under-pressure Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

The 29-year-old has received a considerable amount of criticism after making some high-profile errors for United.

However, he was in inspired form during Spain's 1-1 draw against Germany in the Nations League on Thursday as he made some impressive stops, including one to thwart Leroy Sane.

Enrique stressed that De Gea deserves more praise and said that Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is in a similar situation with regards to the intense scrutiny of his performances.

'He [De Gea] has played a lot of games like this in England,' Enrique said, as reported by Marca.

'We monitor him exhaustively, but he and Kepa are in the news if they make a mistake. They're used to it.

'With the game he's played we should be saying what a great goalkeeper we have.

'I'll encourage them to not fall apart and it's a position that I demand a lot from.

'But because the press give them such a hard time, I treat them more affectionately.

'They both know that their mistakes are more noticeable than those of other players, but they're used to it.'

Luis Enrique has praised David de Gea after the goalkeeper impressed for Spain on Thursday. Enrique said that some of the criticism the Manchester United goalkeeper gets is unwarranted. De Gea, who made some excellent stops, faces a battle to retain his place as United's No 1

De Gea faces a battle to retain his place as United's first-choice goalkeeper next season, with Dean Henderson back from his loan spell at Sheffield United.

The highly-regarded Henderson has signed a new contract at United but stressed that he won't be willing to be back-up to De Gea.

Spain are back in action on Sunday when they host Ukraine in another Nations League clash, and De Gea will be hoping to make a major impact again.

The attention will then turn to the intriguing goalkeeping situation at United, but De Gea demonstrated for Spain that he is still capable of producing impressive performances.

Former United defender Gary Neville believes De Gea will commence the season as United's first-choice shot-stopper.

Neville told Sky Sports: 'De Gea definitely starts as No 1 because there was a point where Ole could've dropped him towards the end of the season.

'However, he stuck with him at that point and we are only around four weeks later.'

Semoga saja De Gea bisa tampil lebih baik di musim ini karena Henderson sepertinya sudah siap setiap saat jika diminta Solskjaer menggeser posisi kiper utama di United. Fokus yaa De Gea
