Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe are out of Man United's 30-man Europa League squad due to season-ending injuries... as kids Teden Mengi, Ethan Laird and Ethan Galbraith are promoted into the group
* Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe have been left out of Manchester United's squad * The two defenders will miss the rest of the Europa League through injury * Youngsters Teden Mengi, Ethan Laird and Ethan Galbraith have been called up * Phil Jones has been included despite not playing since the restart of football Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe have been left out of Manchester United's 30-man Europa League squad due to season-ending injuries. Tuanzebe picked up an knock before football restarted in June while Shaw was forced off with an ankle problem during his side's 1-1 draw with Southampton earlier this month. However, youngsters Teden Mengi, Ethan Laird and Ethan Galbaith have been included in the squad as United prepare for the second leg of their last-16 tie with LASK on Wednesday. Luke Shaw (above) and Axel Tuanzebe have been ruled out for the rest of the season Tuanzebe was injured before the restart while Shaw hurt his ankle against Southampton All three will have been training with the first team along with fellow academy graduates James Garner and Tahith Chong. Mengi, 18, is yet to make his senior debut but was an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat by Astana in the final group game of the competition in November. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a starting XI primarily made up of youth players with United having already qualified for the knockout stages. Teden Mengi is yet to make his senior debut but has been included in the 30-man squad Ethan Galbraith made his debut in United's 2-1 defeat by Astana in the club's final group game Laird, also 18, and Galbraith, 19, made their debuts in the fixture along with Di'Shon Bernard and Dylan Levitt. Right-back Laird also came on as a late substitute in the 4-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in December. The youngsters were regulars for Neil Wood's Under-23 side last season. United have a 5-0 lead from the first leg in Austria and Solskjaer could rest some of his big-name players with progression to the quarter-finals all but confirmed. Daniel James, Juan Mata, Odion Ighalo and Andreas Pereira all scored in the first encounter and are expected to play some part in the game at Old Trafford. Code:

Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
UNITED'S SUPPORT FOR #LETFANSIN CAMPAIGN
Manchester United has announced its support for a new petition that is pushing for football supporters to be allowed to attend matches again. The petition, which has received over 140,000 signatures at the time of writing, asks for the government to reconsider their judgment on preventing supporters from entering stadiums. The campaign follows an open letter to supporters from the FA, the Premier League and the EFL, which seeks to reassure the football community that everything possible is being done to ensure that crowds can return in a safe and healthy manner, as they are doing at some major arts and music venues. 'The Premier League, EFL, the FA, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship want to assure all fans that together we are fully committed to your safe return to football grounds as soon as possible. 'The health of the nation remains our overriding priority and, for many months, we have been working with experts to make our grounds as safe as, if not safer than, any other public activity currently allowed. And we are consulting with the Football Supporters’ Association to keep supporters updated every step of the way. 'We know attendance at matches can play a positive role in people’s lives during these challenging times. And the past few months have shown how clubs can still feel the support of their fans. 'Even when you have been unable to get together, you and your clubs have found ways to make a difference in your communities, with clubs delivering food parcels, taking part in phone calls and online conversations with fans, the elderly and vulnerable and moving services and programmes online to make a difference in unprecedented and challenging circumstances. 'But we all know football is not the same without fans. Every player and manager is missing the direct connection with you and the impact that you have on our games. 'With the EFL, Premier League, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship already staging 11 successful test events recently, we have demonstrated that we can deliver matches safely. The sooner we can return, the sooner we can reunite communities and support local jobs, livelihoods, regional businesses and also the national economy. 'We will continue to urge the government to allow us to return fans safely to stadiums. It is positive progress that major arts and music venues have been told they can run socially-distanced events indoors. And now football should be allowed to do the same - in highly regulated and stewarded outdoor environments. 'Additionally, representatives from football are active members of the Government's Sports Technology and Innovation Group, as well as being involved with their ‘Moonshot’ mass-testing project to open up the economy. 'And in light of the postponement of test events, we will intensify our efforts to pioneer new approaches - working with epidemiologists, scientists and medical experts in areas such as public health, clinical processes and occupational hygiene. This will make sure stadiums are COVID-safe by considering best practice screening and hygiene methods to ensure that fans and the general public will be safe and drive the government's sporting plans to move faster. Stadium environments can be modified and carefully managed. Measures could include screening spectators before they enter the ground, installing temperature checks, requiring masks to be worn, one-way systems and providing a code of conduct for all those attending on a matchday. This will all be bolstered by deep-cleaning practices to help further reduce the risk of virus transmission. 'Clubs want to be pro-active on this matter and are willing to consider measures both in the stadium and on the approach that will allay any concerns as to fans’ safety. From a travel perspective, clubs will work closely with experts and local authorities to model solutions relevant for each stadium to ease pressure on public transport, while extra parking facilities could be available so a greater proportion of you can travel by private car or bicycle. 'We are determined to identify a path forward with the government. We need clarity for our clubs and for you as supporters as to what the roadmap for change in this area looks like. We all know why caution is needed, and we ask the government for consistency in their policy so sport is treated as fairly as other activities currently allowed to welcome spectators. 'So, we will continue to urge the relevant authorities to let us, together, use innovative ways to bring fans safely back into football grounds, starting with a return of the test-event programme. If we do so, then the benefits will be felt not just by fans but throughout society and the economy.' www.manutd.com |

Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer casts further doubt over futures of Phil Jones and Sergio Romero after pair are left out of 25-man Premier League squad
* Their omissions cast doubt over their long-term future at Old Trafford * They were both left out of Champions League squad earlier this month * Defender Jones, 28, last played in January and has been injured since June * Goalkeeper Romero, 33, has entered the last year of his contract at the club Manchester United have omitted Phil Jones and Sergio Romero from their 25-man Premier League squad. Defender Jones and goalkeeper Romero were both also left out of United's Champions League squad earlier this month after falling out of favour under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Their omissions cast doubt over their long-term future at Old Trafford. Phil Jones last played for Manchester United in January and has been injured since June Romero, 33, has entered the last year of his contract and has wanted to leave the club since he was dropped for the Europa League semi-final defeat to Sevilla on August 16. Jones last played for United in January and has been injured since June but the 28-year-old has a contract until 2023. Before Tuesday's Champions League tie at PSG, Solskjaer declined to say whether he would consider picking Jones or Romero in the future. Sergio Romero, 33, has entered the last year of his contract and wants to leave the club 'We've got a squad of 25 to put on the list,' Solskjaer said. 'Phil has been injured. Sergio has not come back to us yet.' Defender Marcos Rojo, who is back at United following his loan spell with Estudiantes, is included in the squad along with new deadline-day signings Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani. Code:

Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
Manchester United are being held to RANSOM for millions of pounds by cyberhackers who targeted club computer systems and are demanding cash not to release sensitive data
* Hackers are demanding payment from Manchester United after a cyber attack * United have brought in a team of technical experts to contain the attack * United now face the option of having to pay up or risk seeing highly sensitive information about the club and its stars leaked into the public domain * It's unclear currently who the cyber criminals are or how much they want * United say potentially 'disastrous' attack will not impact match-day operations * A report revealed that 70 per cent of sports organisations had experienced cyber incidents in the previous year Manchester United are being held to ransom for millions of pounds by cyber criminals who have crippled the club's systems, Sportsmail can reveal. United have brought in a team of technical experts to contain the potentially 'disastrous' attack that was launched more than a week ago. But it's understood the hackers still have United in their grip after the National Cyber Security Centre on Thursday night confirmed they are helping the club to resolve the crisis. It said: 'The NCSC is aware of an incident affecting Manchester United Football Club and we are working with the organisation and partners to understand impact.' The embarrassing lapse of security at one of the world's biggest sports clubs is believed to be far more serious than first feared. United's network has been infected by ransomware a computer virus - and they now face the option of having to pay up or risk seeing highly sensitive information about the club and its stars leaked into the public domain. It's unclear who the criminals are or how much they want, but the NCSC revealed that in the last year an EFL club were hit with a £5m demand and the biggest single loss to a sports organisation from cyber crime was £4m. United could also face fines of £9m, £18m or two per cent of their total annual worldwide turnover from the independent government body Information Commissioner's Office if the attack is found to have breached their fans' data protection although the club on Thursday night reassured supporters that is not the case. United also insist the attack will not impact match-day operations. The next home game is against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night. A statement on Thursday night read: 'Following the recent cyber attack on the club, our IT team and external experts secured our networks and have conducted forensic investigations. Manchester United's computer systems are still under the control of cyber hackers. The hackers are demanding cash to release their grip on United 'This attack was by nature disruptive, but we are not currently aware of any fan data being compromised. 'Critical systems required for matches to take place at Old Trafford remained secure and games have gone ahead as normal. 'The club will not be commenting on speculation regarding who may have been responsible for this attack or the motives behind it.' The NCSC warned about the increased threat to the £37billion sports industry from cyber criminals in July, including the more remote possibility of being targeted by nation states such as Russia. It revealed that the unknown EFL club received a £5m ransom demand after its systems were crippled. The club refused to pay up and were unable to operate their CCTV and stadium turnstiles, almost resulting in a match being postponed. United feared their game at Old Trafford against West Brom would have to be called off after the initial cyber breach. The Premier League outfit insist the attack won't have an impact on match-day operations In another sting, the email of a Premier League managing director was hacked by criminals who narrowly failed to sabotage a transfer deal with a European club and divert the £1m fee into their own bank account. When sensitive information from Manchester City's company emails was leaked in 2018, it led to a £9m fine for breaking Financial Fair Play rules and a two-year Champions League ban that was later overturned. Warning of the specific threat to sports clubs, the NCSC said: 'The business impact of ransomware attacks can be disastrous. 'Since 2018, ransomware attacks have been growing in impact. The criminals carrying out the attacks are taking more time to analyse victim networks and understand the 'value' of the target organisation. 'Using network analysis and lateral movement within the victim's network, attackers try to ensure they have maximum impact on the victim organisation - potentially denying access to business-critical files and systems. 'Keep safe back-ups of important files. Even if you decide to pay the ransom, there is no guarantee that you will get access to your computer, or your files.' Last week, a British athlete had almost 100 private images stolen from their iCloud account The report revealed that 70 per cent of sports organisations had experienced cyber incidents in the previous year double the average for UK businesses. NCSC director of operations Paul Chichester said: 'Sport is a pillar of many of our lives and we're eagerly anticipating the return to full stadiums and a busy sporting calendar. 'While cyber security might not be an obvious consideration for the sports sector as it thinks about its return, our findings show the impact of cyber criminals cashing in on this industry is very real. 'I would urge sporting bodies to use this time to look at where they can improve their cyber security doing so now will help protect them and millions of fans from the consequences of cyber crime.' Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
The world's biggest club have had their pants pulled down: This cyber-attack is genuine... there will be red faces all round at Man United with the Premier League giants being held to RANSOM for millions of pounds
* Man United are being held to RANSOM for millions of pounds by cyberhackers * The fact it is still going on a week after the first attack proves it's sophisticated * United are in big trouble and it makes me think it is bigger than they're letting on * I would put my house on the ransom being in the millions - 99 times out of 100 it's Bitcoin The fact that this is still going on a week after the first attack proves its sophisticated, not some little virus that has got in. Manchester United are in big trouble and it makes me think this is bigger than theyre letting on. There are no good news stories coming out. Its the embarrassment as well. Theyre the biggest club in the world and someone has pulled their pants down. If the virus is ransomware there will be a demand for money. I would put my house on it being in the millions, and 99 times out of 100 its Bitcoin (cryptocurrency) because that is the hardest to trace. Gone are the days of a brown envelope being left on a park bench for someone to pick up or transferring money to offshore accounts. At state level US or UK cyber-security Bitcoin can be traced but the cyber-guys at United are not going to have that ability. Most of the people who do this stuff are clever. They dont ask for £1billion because they know United cant pay that. Its a bit like a kidnap ransom. They will ask for a substantial amount and know what the club can and cant pay. Im confident United have £5m in the bank and can pay pretty quickly if they have to. Im 99 per cent certain this is an organised crime gang. It could be a 16-year-old kid sat in his pants in his bedroom who has nothing better to do than hack into the Pentagon, or it could be the Russians or corporate espionage a rival club trying to devalue Uniteds share price and divert their focus from what theyre trying to do on the pitch but I doubt it. Manchester United are being held to ransom for millions of pounds by cyber criminals. The Premier League outfit are in big trouble, the cyberhackers have pulled their pants down If theyve encrypted Uniteds data converting it to code or symbols to ensure it cannot be understood they will say to the club: If you dont pay the ransom, were not going to lift the encryption. United may be trying to negotiate or stall while their people attempt to decrypt it. But the fact that its gone on so long makes me think theres a strong encrypted algorithm in place on the network and United are never getting through that. Never. Not unless youre at state level. Youve basically got to write that off. United will probably have a back-up system, but if the hackers have managed to download confidential data there are still various things they can do with it. They could say: Weve got all this personal data of your staff, your players, your fans phone numbers, emails, passwords and were going to put it online. Sometimes they sell it but often they put it online just for the embarrassment. Players personal info, salaries, addresses, phone numbers and injury records could all potentially be leaked. If you dont want that to happen then you pay the ransom. The majority of criminals stick to their word and give you the encryption key once the ransom has been paid. They know the next target wont listen to them if they dont keep their promise. It would be interesting to find out how this happened. Has a member of staff clicked on a link or is there a vulnerability in the system that the hackers exploited? I think the system is probably not correct for what United need. There isnt usually too much warning. If the business is attacked, normally there is a page in front of you saying your device has been encrypted, transfer x amount to this Bitcoin wallet. It will have been on the network for a couple of days doing what it needs to do and then the systems will be shut down and the shutters come down. Theres no phone call or verbal communication. A little face or symbol will appear telling you that your system is being attacked by group A, B or C, so pay this amount to unencrypt it. There may be contact details as in some sort of chatroom or email address but it will be encrypted like proton mail. Nine times out of 10 its just a screen. United should be insured. Cyber-insurance is the biggest growing insurance in Lloyds. Whether that includes ransomware payments, I dont know. It generally doesnt. At director level, this is probably the last thing they need with the lack of finances due to the pandemic and no fans in the stadium. Code:

Manchester United's scouting system plunged into chaos as hackers access 'confidential information on targets and scouting missions' during ongoing cyber-attack with less than five weeks until the January transfer window opens
* Manchester United's scouting system has been plunged into chaos by hackers * The club's systems have been compromised for over a week due to the attack * And it has been reported that the hackers have gained access to critical files * Information relating to short and long term targets may have been accessed * Sportsmail reported this week United had been held to ransom by the hackers Manchester United's ongoing cyber attack has seen hackers accessing confidential information on targets and scouting missions, The Mirror reports. Sportsmail revealed this week that the Premier League club were being held to ransom for millions of pounds by criminal hackers who have crippled the club's systems. United have brought in a team of technical experts in a bid to contain the potentially 'disastrous' attack, although it is believed that the hackers still have a firm grip after the National Cyber Security Centre on Thursday night confirmed they are helping the club to resolve the crisis. And the embarrassing lapse of security at one of the world's biggest sporting clubs could have terrible ramifications, with more information about the extent of the attack emerging. The Mirror reports that the hackers have gained access to confidential information relating to player targets as well as on-going scouting missions. United's email system has been disabled by the hackers for over a week, having a major impact on global scouting operations. Man United's scouting system has been plunged into chaos by the ongoing cyber attack. Sportsmail revealed that the club's computer systems have been hijacked by hackers. The Premier League club's email system has been compromised in the embarrassing lapse That could have a serious effect on United's transfer business, with the January transfer window set to open in less than five weeks and advanced planning for next summer's transfer window underway. The report goes onto outline that details regarding active long and short-term player targets are held in files within the system. It is understood that confidential material along with sensitive personal details of their current squad may have been targeted. Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
Manchester United are given the go-ahead to trial 'safe-standing' for 1,500 fans at Old Trafford once they are allowed to return to full capacity
* Manchester United will install 1,500 rail seats in 2021 as they trial safe standing * Premier League giants were aware of fan support for safe standing for some time * All-seater stadiums have been compulsory in the Premier League since 1994-95 * The new seats are not likely to be used until Old Trafford returns to full capacity Manchester United are to trial safe standing at Old Trafford. In a historic move, the club will install 1,500 rail seats early next year as part of an initial trial. United have been well aware of fan support for safe standing for some time and carried out a detailed and comprehensive study into the matter last year. Manchester United have been given the green light to trial safe standing at Old Trafford The Premier League giants will install 1,500 rail seats (pictured) to be used in the new year They approached the relevant authorities for permission and have now been given the green light. They believe the rail seats, which allow people to stand against a barrier, will enhance spectator safety in areas where there is persistent standing. As such, the 1,500 new seats will be added to the J Stand area of the ground, which has traditionally experienced such issues. A recent change to the stadium safety guide means clubs can now install seats incorporating safety barriers in their grounds. However, there is still a reluctance to use the term safe standing among the authorities. Standing has been banned in the top two tiers of English football since the Taylor Report, carried out following the Hillsborough disaster of 1989. United say they are delighted with the development. However, the new seats are not likely to be used until Old Trafford returns to its maximum capacity. Stadiums in England are currently subject to heavily restricted crowd capacity under the Governments Covid-19 prevention measures. The club also say they are not aware of any updates as to when the Government may take forward their manifesto commitment to introduce safe standing. Quote:
In October despite a substantial drop to revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic and last seasons absence from the Champions League close to £20 million was paid out to the Americans. At a fans forum, the issue was raised and a club spokesperson responded by pointing out that payment of dividends was standard practice for listed companies around the world and falls within our normal course of business. Standing has been banned in the top two tiers of English football since the Taylor Report, carried out following the Hillsborough Disaster of 1989 The spokesperson added: By providing a return on investment and encouraging capital discipline, dividends contribute to the long-term health and sustainability of the club. It was also pointed out that season ticket prices at United have been frozen for the last nine years. Meanwhile, as exclusively revealed by Sportsmail, fans will be asked to avoid excessive singing and shouting and to wear face coverings at all times in a bid to help Premier League clubs stage larger-scale test events in future. Top-flight clubs have signed off on new protocols some of which go beyond Government mandates ahead of up to 2,000 fans returning to matches this weekend. Celtic became first British club to use rail sets when they unveiled them at Celtic Park in 2016 Code:

Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
UNITED PLAYERS PLEDGE TO SUPPORT SANTA'S RED HELPERS CAMPAIGN Manchester United’s first-team squad has pledged £250,000 to help support vulnerable children this winter, as part of the Manchester United Foundation’s Santa’s Red Helpers campaign. Representing the team, club captain Harry Maguire marked the players’ significant donation with a visit to Old Trafford on Thursday to take part in the preparation of food hampers and packing of festive gifts for children across Greater Manchester. During the visit, Harry met some of the many members of staff who have volunteered their time to help ensure these much-needed deliveries, including thousands of food hampers and presents, go out on schedule. The United defender chatted with volunteers and Foundation staff, hearing more about the campaign and the club-wide effort, before helping the team pack bags and load a van in preparation for delivery. “This is a fantastic campaign that I know the club, the staff and the players are all behind,” Harry said. “The first team came together recently to talk about the campaign and it was very clear straight away that everybody wanted to be involved and to contribute.” Harry added: “I’ve been lucky enough to come down today and see all the food hampers and the activity bags being readied and hear how so many people will benefit. I’ll be going back to the lads to tell them about all the hard work that staff members are putting in. “It’s clear that the young people of Manchester will benefit from this and it’s so important that we look after them.” Matt Johnson, operations director at Manchester United Foundation, stressed how important it was for Harry and the team to get behind the initiative. “Child poverty is on the increase in Greater Manchester and as a Foundation and club we want to ensure that the most vulnerable children get food and presents this Christmas,” Matt said. “Having the players so actively supporting the campaign with finances and time is inspiring to everyone and shows the true family values of the club and its people. Harry was so humble and truly wants to get involved with the programme. No job was too big or small for him and he was a great lift to our Red Helpers who have been packing the food and activity bags. “With such a united approach across the club, spearheaded by Harry and the players, we should be able to achieve something we have never done before in providing thousands of meals, hampers and gifts to vulnerable children across Greater Manchester. I have no doubt we can bring some festive cheer to lots of children.” On Tuesday 1 December, the Foundation launched its Christmas call-to-action, encouraging fans to follow staff and players in becoming Santa’s Red Helpers and donate to help provide food, gifts and support to vulnerable children this Christmas. Like Harry, fans can also become Red Helpers by contributing whatever they can to ensure that we make as big a difference as possible to the welfare of children in Greater Manchester and beyond this Christmas. Manchester United follow Marcus Rashford's lead by providing 80,000 meals for vulnerable families over Christmas with first-team stars to donate £250,000 to appeal for presents and food parcels
* Manchester United are helping to provide 80,000 meals for vulnerable families * United’s stars have also pledged £250,000 to the appeal over the festive period * Fans are being asked to donate Christmas presents and food parcels if possible * They are teaming up with FareShare, part of the Marcus Rashford's task force Manchester United are helping to provide 80,000 meals for vulnerable families this Christmas. Together with the Manchester United Foundation and food charity FareShare, the club are supporting the local community as part of the foundation’s Santa’s Red Helpers Christmas appeal. United’s stars have also pledged £250,000 to the appeal which encourages fans to donate Christmas presents and food parcels where possible for those who may otherwise go without. FareShare has so far donated 33 tonnes of food to the campaign which will be turned into 80,000 meals by the club’s chefs in the kitchens at Old Trafford and delivered to children and families from foundation partner schools, food banks and other external charities over the festive period. United’s stars have also pledged £250,000 to the appeal which encourages fans to donate Christmas presents and food parcels. In October United prepared and distributed 5,000 free school meals during half-term break It follows a similar initiative in October when United prepared and distributed 5,000 free school meals during the half-term break in collaboration with FareShare as part of the response to the Covid pandemic. United ambassador Denis Irwin, who visited the FareShare depot, said: ‘It’s an inspirational and incredible operation, one that is managed so well by FareShare GM – full credit to them. The amount of families and children in need, people who need the most basic things like food. It’s an eye opener. ‘Manchester United is a huge football club, but we are committed to working in the community and the foundation does a tremendous job. ‘It’s a great effort on behalf of Manchester United and FareShare GM that we’ve partnered up so we can deliver these 80,000 parcels to partner schools and charities around Christmas. It can be a tough time for many people and unfortunately it’s only going to get tougher for some.’ FareShare, the UK’s biggest food charity and a founding member of the Child Food Poverty Taskforce set up by United striker Marcus Rashford, is set to provide 70 tonnes of food this week to more than 250 frontline charities and community groups including community centres, food banks and homeless shelters. United’s chief operating officer Collette Roche said: ‘2020 has been a really challenging year for so many across the country. The issue of food poverty has been significant, worsened by the Covid-19 crisis and aggravated further during the holidays when many children cannot get access to free school meals. ‘Many have rallied to this particular cause and we are proud to be able to play our part. We’ve scaled up our partnership with the Foundation and with FareShare GM, bringing our resources together, to produce 80,000 meals over the festive period. We thank all the fans and staff who have contributed to this important project.’ Code:

Re: Manchester United - News and Rumors
GREATER MANCHESTER MOVES TO TIER 4
Manchester United notes the decision today by the UK Government to move the Greater Manchester region into Tier 4. With fans only being allowed to attend matches at stadia within Tier 1 and Tier 2 areas, this means that home matches for our men’s and women’s teams will continue to take place behind closed doors. The club urges all fans to follow government guidance and it will continue to stand ready for their return in 2021 once safe to do so. In line with government rules that state that all non-essential retail outlets are required not to open, the Megastore will also be closed. The new restrictions are in effect from 00:01 GMT on 31 December. www.manutd.com |
