Manchester United medical staff 'testing club's stars TWICE a day for coronavirus symptoms' with no plans to close Carrington yet

* Manchester United's stars are tested on arrival and when leaving Carrington
* There are no plans to close Carrington yet despite the coronavirus outbreak
* United's players were monitored for the coronavirus against Austrian side LASK

Manchester United's medical team are testing the club's stars twice a day for coronavirus during training, according to reports.

Club doctors at United's Carrington training ground are unwilling to take any risks with the virus continuing to spread.

As a result, the Mirror claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are tested when they arrive and leave the training ground.

United have no plans to close Carrington yet - despite Arsenal and Everton's training complexes being in complete lockdown.

However, United are taking precautions, with only essential first-team staff allowed to come into close contact with players.

The news comes after it was revealed that United's players were monitored for the virus throughout their Europa League last 16 first leg against LASK.

They took player's temperatures at the halfway stage to make certain no-one was at risk of falling victim to the Coronavirus.

And additionally - on their flight back to Manchester - medical staff took further readings with the club on red-alert to the dangers of spreading the virus.

Speaking after United's 5-0 drubbing of the Austrian side on Thursday, Solskjaer said: 'Our medical staff are watching this minute to minute.

'Even at half time during the game in Austria the doctor was checking the players.

'Of course, we are part of the general public as well. We have a duty to obey what the authorities and experts decide on.'

Manchester United 'cancel training' as players, who were due back at their Carrington base, are given personalised programmes and are allowed to work from home during the coronavirus crisis

* Manchester United have decided to cancel their training session on Tuesday
* It follows the government urging people to work from home due to coronavirus
* Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were due to meet at Carrington on Tuesday morning
* But their players have now been given tailored training schedules to do at home

Manchester United have decided to cancel training on Tuesday morning following the latest government update on coronavirus.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad were expected to be back training at Carrington, despite the Premier League season being suspended last week.

However, due to new advice outlined by the government on Monday that urged everybody to work from home if they can, United will now not be training.

'In light of governmental advice and the evolving situation, the team are not returning to training,' a club statement said.

Members of the first-team squad and all academy age groups will now be given tailored training programmes to follow from home.

United had planned for players to report for training as normal, with days off spread out across the forthcoming weeks.

Players were informed on Monday night that training would not take place as planned as the club follows government advice.

The situation is being constantly reviewed by the club though, with all staff at both the training complex and Old Trafford told to work from home where possible.

The Red Devils were supposed to be playing at Tottenham on Sunday before the domestic season was shut down.

It was announced on Friday that the English football programme has been suspended until April 3.

The Premier League are due to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss how the remainder of the season will play out.

Solskjaer's side are on a 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions and are supposedly playing against at Brighton on April 4 when the Premier League resumes.

United's most recent outing saw them demolish Austrian side LASK 5-0 in the first-leg of their Europa League last-16 tie last week.

UNITED TO PROTECT CASUAL WORKERS’ EARNINGS

Manchester United will pay all its loyal matchday and non-matchday casual workers, should Premier League games be cancelled or played behind closed doors for the remainder of this season.

This goodwill gesture reflects the club’s desire to reduce the financial uncertainty facing its casual workforce, and is in recognition of the crucial role they play in delivering services to supporters.

All Premier League games are currently suspended until at least 30 April.

Discussions are ongoing with the Premier League about what will happen to games after that date, including the four remaining games scheduled to be played at Old Trafford this season.

The goodwill payment will be made to all matchday and non-matchday casual workers who have worked for the club in the past three months.

Ed Woodward, Executive Vice Chairman, said: “We rely on our outstanding staff to deliver an exceptional service and experience to fans at Old Trafford.

“We understand that these are unprecedented circumstances and want to give them security whatever may happen regarding our remaining fixtures this season. We look forward to welcoming back all our supporters - and our colleagues - to Old Trafford as soon as possible.”

Manchester United consider reimbursing season ticket holders if final four home games of the season are cancelled or played without fans… and it could cost club ‘around £6million’

* The Premier League is suspended until April 30 at least due to coronavirus crisis
* As a result, Man United's last four home league games are in serious doubt
* If the games at Old Trafford are played at all, they could be behind closed doors
* The club are in discussions with the Supporters Trust over season tickets

Manchester United could reportedly reimburse season ticket holders the cost of their final four home games should they be cancelled or played behind closed doors.

The Premier League has been suspended until April 30 at least due to the coronavirus pandemic which has sent the UK into near-lockdown.

With the rest of the season up in the air at the moment, the Red Devils are considering paying back their loyal customers should the games not go ahead in normal circumstances, which will set them back £6million according to The Mirror.

Manchester United could refund supporters if they don't play out their four games normally. Ed Woodward is considering an option which would leave United £6m out of pocket

United have a total of four Premier League home games left, against Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Southampton and West ham, plus a Europa League last-16 second-leg against LASK.

For league games in particular, Old Trafford usually attracts around 50,000 season ticket holders, meaning the cost to refund spectators would be £1.5m per game.

Discussions between the club and fan groups are ongoing, with the Manchester United Supporters Trust inviting input from season ticket holders online.

A statement on Twitter said: 'We are in discussion with Manchester United regarding season ticket renewals and related issues arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

'We are raising issues but would like feedback from season ticket holders to make sure we are covering all the important matters arising.

'[Issues include] postponement of renewal date. Impact of financial hardship due to coronavirus. Qualification for season ticket loan payment (V12) scheme. Refunds for current season matches if not played (in public).'

In addition, a United spokesman said: 'In light of the disruption caused by coronavirus, the club is reviewing dates, policies and procedures around season ticket renewals for next season, along with the administrative processes should games that are currently postponed, be either cancelled or played behind closed doors.

'We are consulting with MUST as part of that review.'

MU FOUNDATION DONATES £300K TO PARTNER SCHOOLS

Manchester United Foundation has confirmed its continued support to the local community by ring-fencing £300,000 to its partner high schools and colleges.

The Foundation is still supporting its partners with staff presence in some schools and colleges as the Covid-19 pandemic continues, and is now showing its ongoing commitment by pledging £10,000 to each site, to assist vulnerable families who are most in need at this time.

The Family Support Donations are to be used for food, clothing, energy, medication, IT equipment and other essentials and hope to alleviate some of the challenges currently faced by some families.

Jenny Langley, principal at Great Academy Ashton, said: “During lockdown we have become increasingly concerned about the support for families whose children usually receive Free School Meals. Manchester United Foundation is a brilliantly supportive partner of ours and they have stepped into this void to provide enough money for all those families to receive vouchers to cover at least some of the shortfall. There is enough in their very generous donation for us to support some of our other families too, those who may not previously have needed it but are struggling financially now due to loss or reduction of income.

“During these unusual times the Foundation has continued to work with schools like ours to understand the immediate challenges facing our young people and their families, and this shows the strength and moral purpose of Manchester United Foundation.”

Jude Lomas, headteacher at Brentwood School and Community College, a special educational needs facility in Sale, said: “The one goal is improving the lives of our students at this time. A fundamental support is ensuring families have enough food and we can now provide supermarket vouchers. Beyond this we are able to support the emotional health and wellbeing of our students. For example, one student loves music therapy, and we have been able to provide a set of tubular bells for her to use at home whilst she is shielding due to her significant health needs.

“In the coming weeks we will be able to use this money to provide individual support for students where we identify a need. We are most grateful to Manchester United Foundation for this opportunity.”

John Shiels, CEO of Manchester United Foundation, said: “We really value the relationship we have with our schools, and in the spirit of true partnerships, we are delighted to be able to offer support to those families who are most in need right now. Our coaches usually work with these children day-in-day-out and this way we are able to still make a difference and give them a sense of hope at this difficult time.”

The Foundation has partnerships with high schools, colleges and SEND facilities in nine out of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, at which full-time staff are based to work with the pupils, provide extra-curricular support and build lasting relationships. Staff are still supporting where possible to work with children of key workers and those that are vulnerable.

The pledge to schools adds to the response of Manchester United and the Foundation to the local community during Covid-19, including the support of the NHS through meal donations and deliveries of goods to food banks.

Manchester United's behind-closed-doors friendly with Stoke CANCELLED at the last minute after Potters boss Michael O'Neill was found positive for coronavirus as the squad were arriving at Carrington for the match

* Manchester United's friendly with Stoke has been cancelled at the last minute
* The Red Devils were set to play the Championship side at Carrington on Tuesday
* But the game was called off as Stoke players started arriving at the facility
* Stoke have confirmed it was because Michael O'Neill tested positive for Covid-19
* United are due to return to Premier League action on June 19 at Tottenham

Manchester United had to dramatically scrap a warm-up game at the last minute yesterday after Stoke City manager Michael O'Neill tested positive for coronavirus.

The two clubs were due to play each other at United's Carrington training base ahead of next week's restart, but the match was called off shortly before kick-off.

It's understood that O'Neill, 50, was tested for the sixth time on Monday and his positive result came back from the EFL after the Stoke squad arrived at Carrington.

Manchester United's friendly against Stoke on Tuesday night was cancelled at the last minute. It was because Stoke manager Michael O'Neill tested positive for coronavirus on Monday

The Championship team were preparing for the game in a different part of the training complex and United are satisfied that O’Neill, who will now go into isolation, did not come into contact with any of their players or staff.

The Stoke squad were still getting changed for the game when it was hastily cancelled and they were told to go home.

A club statement read: ‘Stoke City can confirm that manager Michael O'Neill has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus following the latest round of testing on Monday. O'Neill had tested negative in the previous five rounds of testing.

‘He will now follow the relevant guidance and undergo a period of isolation, whilst continuing to be in regular virtual contact with his coaching staff and players.

‘Assistant manager Billy McKinlay will take charge of training as the Potters prepare for their game against Reading on June 20.’

United went ahead and organised an inter-squad game instead, similar to the one played at Old Trafford on Saturday morning.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who resume their Premier League campaign at Tottenham in nine days’ time, are still hoping to play another friendly against West Brom on Friday but it’s said that their opponents would prefer a fixture closer to the Midlands.

Manchester United to play West Brom in TWO hour-long friendly matches at Old Trafford on Friday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side prepare for the Premier League return

* Manchester United will face West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Friday
* Their planned meeting with Stoke was cancelled at short notice on Tuesday
* Stoke boss Michael O'Neill learned he had tested positive for coronavirus

Manchester United will press ahead with plans to face West Brom in an Old Trafford friendly on Friday despite this week's coronavirus scare.

United's planned meeting with Stoke at their Carrington training base was cancelled at short notice on Tuesday after Michael O'Neill, the Championship club's manager, learned he had tested positive for Covid-19.

It is now thought O'Neill never actually entered Carrington, having turned his car around soon after he was told his results. United are also satisfied none of the Stoke players came into contact with theirs.

Manchester United will face West Bromwich Albion in two games at Old Trafford on Friday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are preparing for the Premier League return later this month

Nevertheless, the academy complex at Carrington was closed for 72 hours and will be deep cleaned in line with club protocols.

United's meeting with West Brom, who are second in the Championship, will comprise two separate matches, likely to last at least an hour each, to give as many players as possible the chance to build fitness ahead of next week's restart.

At this stage, it is not clear whether O'Neill will be able to take charge of Stoke's first game back, against Reading on June 20.

Sportsmail understands O'Neill did not have any symptoms, which under EFL protocols would mean he 'must exclude from training for 10 days and return on day 11.' In this instance, 'day 11' would be the date of the Reading fixture at Madejski Stadium.

After the mandatory 10-day isolation period, O'Neill would 'be under strict surveillance' for the next four days and if he develops symptoms, he would have to isolate for a further seven days. O'Neill's assistant Billy McKinlay is currently in charge of training.

Players and staff involved in behind-closed-doors friendlies have had to follow strict rules to reduce the virus risk. Competitors must make their way to the matches in their own cars, wearing their kit, with use dressing rooms and showers forbidden.

UNITED SUPPORT PLAYERS' ANTI-RACISM STATEMENT

Manchester United has given its full support to a powerful statement against racism made by players from all 20 Premier League clubs and backed plans to display anti-racism messages on club shirts when games resume next week.

In a joint-statement, Premier League players said: “We, the players, stand together with the singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for all, regardless of their colour or creed.”

The Premier League said it supports a request from the players to have their names replaced by 'Black Lives Matter' on the back of their shirts for the first 12 matches of the restarted 2019/20 season, which is scheduled to resume on 17 June.

A Black Lives Matter logo will also feature on shirts for the remainder of the season, along with a badge thanking the NHS for their work during the COVID-19 crisis.

In their statement, the players said of the logo: “This symbol is a sign of unity from all players, all staff, all clubs, all match officials and the Premier League #blacklivesmatter #playerstogether .”
The Premier League said it stood alongside players, clubs and “all those who oppose discrimination in any form”, and added that “there is no room for racism, anywhere”.

The League said it will support players who ‘take a knee’ before or during matches.

Manchester United build a temporary 'pop-up' dressing room near to their car park for away teams when they visit Old Trafford in Premier League restart

* Players from West Brom tried out Manchester United's new facilities last Friday
* A double pop-up dressing room has been erected at the top of the tunnel
* The space accommodates two big changing rooms to allow for social distancing

Manchester United have erected a temporary pop-up dressing room area for visiting sides at Old Trafford.

Players from West Bromwich Albion were able to test out the facilities last Friday prior to their two friendlies against United.

In accordance with Premier League protocols, an area has been allocated at the top of the tunnel entrance, near to the car park where visiting teams' coaches arrive.

The space accommodates two big changing rooms to allow for social distancing and has been kitted out with showers and an office area for the opposing manager and his staff.

There is then an exit into the tunnel area that leads out onto the pitch

Albion players and staff travelled to United in two coaches on Friday to allow for social distancing and to simulate a matchday situation while United players arrived already changed into their kit.

Other Premier League clubs are looking to add similar makeshift facilities as the season resumes this Wednesday.

Manchester United have erected temporary dressing rooms for away sides at their ground. They will not be the only Premier League side adding makeshift facilities at their stadium. The current away dressing room will not be able to accommodate an entire travelling side

Everton have allocated an area at the back of their Park End stand for opposing sides. Liverpool could find themselves celebrating their title win in a similar facility if results go their way and they win at their rivals on Sunday.

Social distancing guidelines mean for 25 people to use a room it would have to be around 112 square metres – far bigger than a number of changing rooms at grounds throughout the Premier League.

As a result, most teams with historic grounds will need to add similar facilities to accommodate visiting sides.

At certain grounds, both teams will not be able to use the tunnel prior to kick-off due to spacing issues. Liverpool are not expected to when they visit Everton.

Any feedback from West Brom will be utilised by United to ensure everything is in place for their first official visitors to Old Trafford, Sheffield United next Wednesday June 24 for a 6pm kick off.

The two clubs are vying for qualification to Europe. United goalkeeper Dean Henderson will not figure in the game though he will extend his loan at Bramall Lane until the end of the season.

Talks over the crucial next stage of his development have yet to prove conclusive though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed he sees the 23-year-old as a future No 1 goalkeeper for Manchester United and England after an impressive season.

'Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically,' said Solskjaer. 'We're looking at that in terms of where he's going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.

'This season has proved a great experience for him, he's done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England's number one and Manchester United's number one at some point.'

Sheffield United want Henderson on loan again next season while there is interest from Chelsea and clubs abroad over any prospective permanent deal.

United already have David de Gea on a lengthy and wealthy contract and Henderson would not wish to return as a back-up keeper following his standard of performances this campaign.

De Gea is likely to start for United against Tottenham this weekend in a largely unchanged line-up to the one that figured before lockdown.

Fit-again Marcus Rashford is expected to start and Paul Pogba is in line for a return, albeit on the bench.
