Everton SACK Marco Silva with Duncan Ferguson in charge for Chelsea clash after Toffees dropped into the relegation zone following a miserable start to the season and a 5-2 thrashing in the Merseyside derby

* Everton have sacked manager Marco Silva after the 5-2 defeat by Liverpool
* The Toffees dropped into the Premier League relegation zone on Wednesday
* Silva joined Everton in May 2018 but has lost his job after 18 months at the helm
* Club legend Duncan Ferguson will take charge against Chelsea on Saturday
* David Moyes is the bookies' favourite to return to the Goodison Park hotseat
* Club are also considering Shanghai SIPG boss Vitor Pereira to replace Silva

Duncan Ferguson will take charge of Everton's game with Chelsea on Saturday after Marco Silva's 18-month reign ended in painful circumstances.

It had been widely accepted that Silva, the Portuguese head coach, would be relieved of his duties after Everton's 5-2 defeat in the Merseyside Derby but he was made to wait the entire day before the club finally made an announcement on Thursday evening. He took the news with dignity.

Farhad Moshiri, the majority shareholder, took a train from London and arrived at Finch Farm, the club's training base, before 3pm. He spoke to Everton's squad after a meeting with director of football Marcel Brands and chairman Bill Kenwright, who arrived from London independently.

Marco Silva has lost his job as Everton manager after a disappointing start to the season. Everton lost 5-2 in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night and that was the final straw

Silva becomes the fourth manager that Moshiri, an Iranian billionaire, has sacked since he took a controlling stake in the club in February 2016 and it is clear that he has no firm plan for who will be next given that Ferguson, a club legend in his playing days, will be in the dugout.

Ferguson has not managed a single Premier League game. He is also someone who rarely speaks in public but the Scot, who is such a popular figure with supporters, will face the media in a scheduled press conference on Friday afternoon at Finch Farm to outline his ambitions.

David Moyes, who managed Everton from March 2002 to May 2013, is waiting in the wings to answer a call to take the position permanently though the Scot has yet to have contact with the club's hierarchy.

Farhad Moshiri, the owner, and Bill Kenwright, the chairman, have dismissed Silva. Duncan Ferguson, who was a member of Silva's staff, will take charge against Chelsea

He would consider Tim Cahill, a popular former player, to be on his staff but there have been no discussions of any note with the Australian. Moyes, like all Evertonians, is waiting to see what move Moshiri and Brands decide to make.

A number of other names have been linked to the position including Marcelino, the former Villarreal and Valencia manager who is currently out of work; Marcelo Gallardo, the River Plate manager, and Bournemouth's Eddie Howe.

Vitor Pereira, a former coach of Porto where he won two leagues titles, is also firmly under consideration. Pereira, who is managing in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai SIPG, impressed Everton's board when they spoke to him in 2013.

Whoever takes over will find a club in a perilous position. They have injuries to key players and are struggling to score goals and keep clean sheets. Everton also face a daunting run of fixtures over the Christmas period before they begin the New Year with trips to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Shanghai SIPG boss Vitor Pereira (right) is being considered as a replacement for Silva

Along with Silva, who had 18 months left on his contract, his backroom staff – headed by assistant head coach Luis Boa Morte – have also left with immediate effect.

A statement said: 'Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the club.

'Majority Shareholder Farhad Moshiri, Chairman Bill Kenwright and the Board of Directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.

'Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday. The club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.'

David Moyes is ready to return to Everton, six years after leaving for Manchester United

Carlo Ancelotti SACKED by Napoli just hours after sealing Champions League last-16 spot amid squad feud with president Aurelio De Laurentiis... with Gennaro Gattuso set to take over

* Napoli sacked Carlo Ancelotti in the hours that followed a 4-0 win over Genk
* Ancelotti's position has been under scrutiny for weeks due to a run of poor form
* Off-field problems following a mutiny by the first team squad soured relations
* President Aurelio De Laurentiis has made the call to sack Ancelotti on Tuesday

Napoli have sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti within hours of sealing their place in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Ancelotti has been under mounting pressure following a civil war between owner Aurelio De Laurentiis and the first team squad and the decision was made late on Tuesday night to call time on Ancelotti's reign.

A statement on the club's official twitter account broke the news, writing: 'Napoli has decided to revoke the role of manager of the first team from Mr. Carlo Ancelotti. The rapport of friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the club, its president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.'

Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked as Napoli manager despite a 4-0 win on Tuesday night. All eyes were fixed on the Italian with plenty of talk that his sacking was arriving imminently

Former AC Milan manager Gennarro Gattuso is reportedly in line to take over at Napoli

Former AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso is widely expected to become Ancelotti's successor.

Interestingly, Gattuso played under Ancelotti during the pair's time at AC Milan where the combative midfielder-turned-manager made 322 appearances under him.

De Laurentiis and Ancelotti were due to hold talks on Wednesday but the decision was made by the president to bring those forward to post-match where the verdict was given to the former AC Milan and Chelsea boss.

Sky Sport Italia added once news broke of the sacking that the meeting between the pair at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Naples was brief and that the decision had been made in advance of their rout at the Stadio San Paolo against Genk.

Napoli's president Aurelio De Laurentiis told Ancelotti he was sacked in a meeting post match. Reports in Italy say the decision over Ancelotti's future was made prior to Tuesday's 4-0 win

Prior to the rout over Genk, Napoli went nine games without a win across all competitions and the writing has been on the wall for Ancelotti since the off-field drama escalated after a home drawn with Red Bull Salzburg.

Even in the immediate aftermath of the Genk match, with many anticipating Ancelotti's sacking, the Italian remained bullish on his hopes to still be in charge for the weekend visit of Parma.

He remained under the impression that talks would be held on Wednesday and insists he would not resign despite the amount of pressure on him to leave.

'We are having a meeting tomorrow to evaluate the situation and then together we will make the best decision for Napoli,' said the coach in his press conference.

'I hope to continue my experience at Napoli. I do not have any decisions to make, because it's the President who decides if I will stay or go. I was pleased with the applause of the Stadio San Paolo crowd, as the fans are close to the team again and that is important.

'It's entirely normal to be evaluated, because the team's performances have been negative in Serie A, especially compared to what we did in the Champions League.'

Ancelotti has been linked with a return to England - both Everton and Arsenal currently have available vacancies - and having now been relieved of his duties in Naples, both clubs may now decide to step up interest in the 60-year-old.

Napoli's domestic form has set alarm bells off as they are currently seventh in the Italian league and have not won domestically in their last five matches.

Their season has been on the brink of being derailed since De Laurentiis went to war with his own squad following a 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg in their Champions League group.

The players refused to go on a training camp that the Napoli chairman had organised in response to the draw and it sparked a furious stand-off between the players and the owner.

Reports in Italy at the time last month said that in response, a furious De Laurentiis responded by freezing payments of the players' wages and sought further advice from his lawyers regarding what other sanctions he could impose.

Players and manager were also banned from giving their side of the story to the press, while stars such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon, Allan and Lorenzo Insigne were all linked with January exits.

Insigne has been picked out by supporters and has been the target of their boos and he looked to shed light on Ancelotti's regime back in October, when pressure on the boss soon escalated.

'My rapport with Ancelotti is a bit odd as at times,' the forward told Rai Sport. 'We have had rows, but that's all down to our respective personalities.'

The situation between players and the board has yet to be cleared up fully and De Laurentiis has made the call to shake up the management in a bid to improve fortunes on the pitch.

Ancelotti led the club to a second place finish in his first season, having come in to replace Maurizio Sarri, who left for Chelsea.

And while they were tipped as a title contender once more this season, it has been a near-disastrous campaign which has put qualification for next season's Champions League in doubt with Atalanta, Lazio, Cagliari and Roma all making strong starts to the season.

In total, Ancelotti had 72 games as Napoli boss, resulting in 38 wins, 19 draws and 15 defeats. Napoli scored 126 goals and conceded 71, averaging 1.85 points per game in his tenure.

He becomes the sixth manager in Serie A to be sacked this season after Eusebio Di Francesco (Sampdoria), Marco Giampaolo (AC Milan), Aurelio Andreazzoli (Genoa) and the back-and-forth hiring and firing of Fabio Grosso and Eugenio Corini at Brescia.

Gennaro Gattuso confirmed as Napoli boss as he takes training less than 24 hours after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked - but his former manager at AC Milan has already called to wish him well

* Gennaro Gattuso was announced as new boss of Napoli on six-month deal
* Carlo Ancelotti was sacked as Napoli manager after a Champions League win
* He lost his job amid feud with owner Aurelio De Laurentiis and poor run of form
* Luigi Riccio was with Gattuso at Rangers and is set to join as his assistant

Gennaro Gattuso has been confirmed as the new boss of Serie A club Napoli following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti.

The former Milan boss has been given a six-month contract at the crisis-ridden club and took training on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after his former AC Milan mentor departed.

The club have struggled in recent weeks and they are winless in seven Serie A games in succession, sitting seventh in the table and 17 points off leaders Juventus.

Former Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso has been confirmed as boss of Serie A side Napoli. Club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis unveiled his new boss after departure of Carlo Ancelotti

On joining, Gattuso said: 'The aim is to recoup points and get back into the Champions League positions.

'We need to work hard, win back points and come through this tricky period. It's embarrassing to see Napoli where we currently are in the table.

'The team is aware of the difficult situation and wants to do well. I've been encouraged.'

The retired midfielder took his first training session as the boss of his new club

Gattuso is set to be joined at Napoli by assistant Luigi Riccio, who was a team-mate of the midfielder while at Rangers.

The pair grew close at the Scottish club in 1997 and worked together when Gattuso was cutting his managerial teeth at Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa and then AC Milan.

Gattuso even baptised Riccio's second son and the inseparable duo have been handed six-month deals with provision for an additional year if certain results are achieved, such as qualifying for the Champions League.

Everton hold positive talks with Carlo Ancelotti over vacant manager's position and plan to speak again with interim manager Duncan Ferguson to remain part of Italian's coaching staff

* Everton's board have held positive initial talks with Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti
* Further talks are planned with Ancelotti as they look for Marco Silva's successor
* Interim boss Duncan Ferguson will stay at the club as part of the coaching team

Everton have held positive initial talks with Carlo Ancelotti over becoming their next manager and further negotiations are planned.

Owner Farhad Moshiri has taken the opportunity of speaking to the 60-year-old and is excited at the possibility of being able to entice the three times Champions League winner to Goodison Park.

Ancelotti, who left his role as head coach of Napoli last week, had been considered for the vacant manager's post at Arsenal prior to them intensifying talks with Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta.

That has left the door ajar for Everton and Ancelotti is receptive to the idea of managing in the Premier League once again following his successful spell at Chelsea.

Moshiri has already held face-to-face talks with another candidate David Moyes as he continues a thorough interview process to find a replacement for Marco Silva who was sacked on December 6.

Moyes remains a strong contender but Ancelotti's excellent CV would excite Everton supporters who have been left disaffected by a rudderless season.

Those fans have been lifted in recent weeks by performances under interim boss Duncan Ferguson, who would remain part of the coaching staff under the new manager.

After masterminding victory over Chelsea and a draw at Manchester United, crowd favourite Ferguson will be in charge again for Wednesday's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Leicester City which is expected to be in front of a full house at Goodison Park.

Everton have held positive initial talks with Carlo Ancelotti over their manager vacancy. Interim boss Duncan Ferguson would stay on the coaching staff if Ancelotti did take charge

Ferguson's results have bought Moshiri vital time in his search for a manager but he would hope to have a new man in place by the end of the week.

Ancelotti is still being paid by Napoli which will also have to be resolved before he takes up a new job.

Everton tweeted late on Monday night saying: 'In the 11 days since Marco Silva left the Club, the Everton Board has been working to recruit a new permanent manager – and has held meetings with a number of candidates.

'We can confirm that thus far no contract offer has been made and no candidate has chosen to withdraw from the process.

'While the Club is keen to confirm a new permanent manager as soon as possible, the only important duty is that the right appointment is made.

'While our process continues, Duncan Ferguson will remain as caretaker manager and will take charge of the side for Wednesday night's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Leicester City.'

West Ham Resmi Pecat Manuel Pellegrini
Putra Rusdi K - detikSport

London - Rentetan hasil buruk yang diterima West Ham United membuat Manuel Pellegrini kehilangan jabatannya. Ia dipecat usai The Hammers kalah dari Leicester City.

Pellegrini sendiri mulai melatih West Ham sejak awal musim 2018/2019. Pria yang pernah membesut Real Madrid dan Manchester City ini mengantarkan tim asal London ini berada di posisi ke-10 di klasemen akhir musim lalu.

Ernesto Valverde is SACKED by Barcelona despite sitting top of La Liga as little-known Quique Setien takes over on two-and-a-half year deal after Spanish giants were turned down by Xavi

* Barcelona have sacked Ernesto Valverde after two-and-a-half years in charge
* Spanish giants are top of La Liga and in the last 16 of the Champions League
* There have been doubts about Valverde's ability to achieve success in Europe
* The club moved for former Betis boss Quique Setien after being rejected by Xavi
* Barca opted against trying to move for ex-Tottenham man Mauricio Pochettino

Barcelona have appointed former Watford target Quique Setien as their new coach having sacked Ernesto Valverde.

It’s the first time the club have dismissed a coach mid-season in 17 years and it comes despite Barcelona being top of La Liga. The 61-year-old Setien was linked with Watford at the start of December before they appointed Nigel Pearson.

In a statement the club said it wanted to ‘publicly thank Valverde for his commitment and professionalism’, but having won the previous two Spanish titles many feel he was treated poorly.

Former Real Betis manager Quique Setien has signed a deal with the club running until 2022. Betis hired Setien at the start of the 2017-18 campaign and he led them to a 6th-place finish

He was booed by Barcelona supporting spectators in Saudi Arabia at the recent Spanish Super Cup and when they were beaten in the semi-final by Atletico Madrid last Thursday the club decided to replace the 55 year old and went for Setien after being turned down by Xavi.

Mauricio Pochettino is highly regarded by president Josep Bartomeu but was always an unlikely contender having previously said he would rather 'work on a farm' than coach the rivals of his former club Espanyol.

The biggest surprise is that Setien will be given a contract for the remainder of this season and for the next two years.

He got Betis into the Europa League two seasons ago playing a Barça-like style of football. At the end of last season he was sacked having failed to build on the previous campaign but he retained support among Barcelona supporters for famously saying that it was not enough to win; he wanted to win playing a certain style of football.

Setien will be officially be announced at the Nou Camp on Tuesday, in the Presidents Suite at 1.30pm CET in a private event, the club have confirmed. A photo session on the famous pitch will then follow.

Not all supporters will be enamored however. Setien is unproven at the highest level and many will see him as a similar figure to Valverde: a decent, honest manager but one who will lack the personality to deal with Diego Simeone and Zinedine Zidane in Spain and Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp in the Champions League.

The club are top of La Liga and Valverde, who had won the previous two Spanish titles, had also guided them to Champions League qualification as group winners.

After that defeat to Atletico Madrid last Thursday in the Spanish Super Cup Barcelona directors Eric Abidal and Oscar Grau took a flight to Doha to offer the job to Xavi Hernandez and when the former captain turned it down they were left with little choice but to go through with Valverde’s sacking anyway, having undermined him with the approach to Xavi.

Vavlerde certainly had no intention of resigning and will be due the rest of this season’s money and the remaining year on his contract.

Former captain Xavi, currently boss of Al Sadd in Qatar, has turned down the Barcelona job

He turned up three hours early on Monday at Barcelona’s Joan Gamper training ground and met with president Bartomeu midday.

The Barca board then held a mammoth four-hour meeting with three names linked to the soon to be vacant post.

Current B-team coach Francisco Javier García Pimienta would have been the emergency option. But ultimately it was Setien who was seen as the safest pair of hands.
