Evra: Tanpa Ronaldo, Rooney Lebih Bebas

MANCHESTER - Patrice Evra memuji performa rekan setimnya Wayne Rooney yang kian kinclong bersama Manchester United. Bek United ini menilai, prestasi apik Rooney kali ini tak lepas dari hengkangnya Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sejak ditinggalkan Ronaldo yang hijrah ke Real Madrid pada awal musim ini, Rooney memang mengemban tugas menggantikan CR7 (kini CR9) sebagai mesin gol. Awalnya, banyak yang ragu Wazza bakal mampu mengisi kekosongan yang ditinggalkan Ronaldo. Namun diluar dugaan, Rooney justru mampu menjalankan tugas tersebut dengan sangat baik.

Dipercaya pelatih Sir Alex Ferguson bermain sendirian di lini depan, Rooney mampu memuaskan hati sang bos dengan torehan 20 gol yang membuatnya untuk sementara memimpin daftar pencetak gol terbanyak Premier League. Tak hanya itu, satu gol yang dilesakkannya saat United menaklukkan Arsenal 3-1, akhir pekan lalu menggenapkan koleksi gol Wazza selama mengenakan kostum United menjadi 100 gol.

Fakta inilah yang membuat Evra tak sungkan memuji performa rekan setimnya tersebut. Bek Timnas Prancis ini juga tak lagi merasakan ada hal kurang di United sepeninggal Ronaldo.

“Untuk saat ini, Wayne (Rooney) jelas tak bisa dihentikan. Dia mengalami perkembangan pesat dan telah mengerti akan tugasnya yakni mencetak banyak gol,” ujar Evra sebagaimana dikutip Tribalfootball, Kamis (4/2/2010).

“Rooney kini bisa menghemat energinya dan menunggu di kotak penalti. Fakta bahwa kami tak lagi diperkuat Ronaldo, justru memberi berkah tersendiri bagi Rooney. Ia kini bisa bergerak lebih bebas,” tambahnya.

“Tanggung jawabnya terus meningkat, terutama saat kami menyerang. Terkadang, kami membiarkanya menentukan hasil pertandingan kami. Namun, kami tidak bergantung padanya,” tutup bek 28 tahun ini. (acf)

MANCHESTER - Bek andalan Manchester United Patrice Evra mengemban misi khusus kala bertandang ke markas AC Milan pada babak 16 besar Liga Champions, pekan depan. Evra bertekad 'merusak' reuni mantan ikon Red Devils David Beckham demi memastikan langkah raksasa Inggris ke putaran selanjutnya.

Ya, big match yang sudah lama ditunggu antara Milan dan United bakal dihelat, Rabu (17/2/2010) dini hari. Tidak bisa dipungkiri, pertemuan kembali gelandang veteran David Beckham yang kini berkostum Rossoneri dengan klub yang membesarkan namanya itu bakal mencuri perhatian para pecinta sepakbola.

Namun, Evra siap menjadi tokoh antagonis dalam reuni tersebut dan memaksa Becks bekerja keras sepanjang laga. "Saya akan mengucapkan selamat datang kepada Beckham, tapi saya akan memastikan dia melakoni pertandingan yang sulit," tegas bek Prancis seperti disitat Daily Star, Minggu (14/2/2010).

"Saya ikut gembira untuknya atas undian ini, karena dia telah memberikan banyak kontribusi untuk United dan saya tahu dia ingin kembali bermain bersama kami. Saya pernah bertemu dengannya dan dia seorang pria yang baik," tutur Evra.

"Saya yakin rekan-rekan setimnya di United tak sabar menyambutnya kembali di Old Trafford saat kami melakoni leg kedua (11/3/2010). Tapi, saya lebih menantikan saat-saat menghadapi Milan, dan mereka bukan hanya Beckham," imbuhnya.

Setelah menyerahkan gelar juara Eropa kepada Barcelona musim lalu, anak-anak asuh Sir Alex Ferguson tentu memendam hasrat tinggi untuk menggapai final di Santiago Bernabeu, Mei mendatang. Evra pun mengaku, seluruh punggawa United memikul tanggung jawab untuk merengkuh trofi setiap musimnya.

"Menjadi pemain Manchester United berarti membidik kemenangan (setiap musim). Setiap tahun di Old Trafford, saya memenangkan dua atau tiga trofi. Bagi saya, itu hal yang wajar. Jadi, jika kami tidak mampu meraih trofi, berarti saya tidak melakukan tugas saya dengan baik," pungkas pemain 28 tahun.

Patrice Evra insists every player at Manchester United fears being axed by ruthless boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The France full-back says Fergie will not hesitate to drop one of his United stars to the bench if he believes they have not performed to his high standards.

Evra revealed he and his team-mates are under pressure to be on the top of their game at all times and is constantly worried about keeping his place in the side.

'This club is all about winning and nothing else is acceptable,' he said.

'I'm lucky enough to have been in a side that's won the last three titles and I don't want that to stop.

'If you're inclined to want to sit back and rest on your laurels you will soon be told about it.

'At United, if you have a good game, you'll find yourself on the bench. It's only if you're on the very top of your form that you will hold on to your place.'

Evra: Tidak Mau Cari Alasan

LIVERPOOL – Sir Alex Ferguson berdalih kekalahan Manchester United dari Everton terjadi karena kelelahan. Namun, Patrice Evra tidak setuju dengan pendapat itu. Benarkah?

United terkapar di Goodison Park dengan skor 1-3, tadi malam. Kekalahan itu membuat Chelsea nyaman berdiri puncak klasemen Premier League dengan keunggulan empat poin. Itu berkat kemenangan atas Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0.

Sebelumnya, Ferguson mengatakan kekalahan terjadi karena The Red Devils mengalami kelelahan, setelah pertain away melawan AC Milan di pentas Liga Champions. Evra dengan lantang membantah pernyataan sang pelatih.

“Kami semua memang kecewa dan sedih. Saya memang mengakui bahwa kami kelelahan setelah pertandingan luar biasa di San Siro, tapi saya tidak mau mencari alasan seperti itu,” jelas Evra dilansir MUTV, Minggu (21/2/2010).

“Para pemain memang lelah, tapi kami kalah karena kehilangan mental bertanding. “Saya rasa kami tidak percaya diri bisa memenangi pertandingan. Padahal kami memiliki kesempatan untuk memetik poin penuh,” lanjut bek kiri asal Prancis itu.

Evra juga memuji permainan Everton. Menurutnya tim asuhan David Moyes itu memang bermain gemilang pada pertandingan itu.

Giliran Evra Diisukan Selingkuh

MANCHESTER, KOMPAS.com — Setelah kasus perselingkuhan dua pemain Chelsea, John Terry dan Ashley Cole, merebak, kini tampaknya kasus sama akan menimpa Manchester United. Defender Patrice Evra tertangkap CCTV berada di sebuah hotel dan terlihat mesra dengan wanita blonde yang bukan istrinya.

Evra beristrikan Sandra dan sudah punya anak. Beberapa waktu lalu, dia berada di sebuah hotel mewah yang jaraknya sekitar 15 mil dari rumahnya di Cheshire. CCTV menunjukkan, dia masuk dan check-in bersama seorang wanita blonde. Mereka tampak mesra dan sering bercanda. Saat menunggu lift, sang wanita itu mencium pipi Evra.

Evra dan wanita itu tiba di hotel pada pukul 01.43 malam hari. Dia memarkir mobil mewahnya kemudian menuju hotel bersama. Wanita itu kemudian membayar di resepsionis dengan kartu kredit, kemudian kembali ke parkiran mobil. Tak lama kemudian, dia muncul lagi bersama Evra, lalu masuk hotel.

Sekitar 12 menit kemudian, CCTV menangkap gambar Evra sudah bersama wanita itu menunggu di lift. Keduanya tampak mesra dan saling tertawa.

Jumat (5/3/2010), Evra mengakui bahwa gambar yang diambil dari CCTV itu adalah dirinya. Namun, dia membantah punya hubungan khusus dengan wanita itu.

"Benar, itu diriku. Aku berbicara dengan wanita itu. Kami hanya kebetulan satu hotel. Sebelumnya, aku tak pernah bertemu dengannya," kata Evra sebelum timnya melawan Wolverhampton, Sabtu (6/3/2010).

Namun, dia tak memberi alasan, kenapa dia datang ke hotel saat dini hari. Seorang petugas hotel mengatakan, pada jam itu hotel sangat sepi dan jarang ada orang yang check in.

"Kami tak percaya. Hampir tak pernah ada orang check in pada jam itu. Namun, wanita itu melakukannya. Kemudian, Evra mengikutinya dan sangat jelas dia adalah Evra, meski memakai penutup kepala," kata petugas tersebut.

"Aku sebenarnya akan meminta foto bareng dengannya. Namun, Evra langsung menuju lift. Rasanya sangat aneh melihat pemain Manchester United datang ke hotel pada dini hari," tambahnya.

Evra menegaskan, dia amat setia kepada istrinya, Sandra. "Dia kekasih pertamaku dan kuharap yang terakhir. Sebagai pemain sepak bola, aku harus selalu hati-hati dan menjadi contoh yang baik. Kadang, aku bereaksi dengan buruk di lapangan. Namun, pikiran pertamaku, ini akan menjadi contoh yang buruk buat anak-anak," ucap Evra, yang rajin ke gereja.

Entahlah, apa yang dilakukan Evra dengan wanita misterius di hotel itu. Yang pasti, ini akan menjadi isu panas di Old Trafford. Pelatih Sir Alex Ferguson sangat menekankan kepada pemainnya untuk menjaga kelakuannya. Bahkan, dia juga menganjurkan kepada para pemain untuk menikah jika sudah siap.

September 2009, Ferguson mengatakan bahwa, "Wayne Rooney menjadi lebih dewasa begitu menikah. Perkawinan membantu pemain sepak bola untuk memiliki pribadi yang lebih stabil. Perkawinan baik untuk stabilitas pemain." (SUN)

Evra is best in world, insists Irwin

Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has hailed Patrice Evra as the club's player of the season and the best left-back in the world.



Irwin should know a thing or two about the position, having played there in the 1999 Champions League final, one of his 529 appearances in a 12-year stint with the Old Trafford outfit.

And, whilst he accepts there is competition, particularly from Ashley Cole, Irwin has no doubt Evra is currently the best at his art.

"Patrice is the number one," said Irwin.

"Ashley Cole has improved an awful lot this season. But Patrice has come on a lot too and this year has been his best."

In fact, so effective has Evra been, during a period when he was the only regular member of United's back four to remain injury-free, Irwin feels he edges Wayne Rooney as United's player of the season.

The Irishman admits the view is shaped partly by solidarity amongst the full-back fraternity.

But Irwin does feel Evra's performances have been worthy of the highest praise.

"Wayne Rooney has been tremendous, particularly over the past three months," said Irwin.

"But Patrice Evra has been every bit as good. He has been very consistent at a really high level.

"Regardless of what Wayne has done, Patrice has been our player of the season. Unfortunately for full-backs, centre-forwards get all the glory because they score goals."

Not that it looked like being that way when Evra first arrived from Monaco for £5million four years ago.

The 28-year-old struggled badly during his first few months in England, finding the sheer pace of the game virtually beyond him.

Slowly though, the adaptation process was completed, and now he is looking to maintain his record of winning the title in every full season he has spent with United.

"He came in a January, at the same time as Nemanja Vidic, and they both struggled," recalled Irwin.

"The Premier League was totally different to the league he was playing in. It is a different culture, different weather, different everything.

"You have to get used to all that. But since that first couple of games he has come on leaps and bounds.

"He always looked good going forward but defensively Patrice has improved an awful lot."

Evra will set his sights on beating Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday as United look to maintain their position at the top of the Premier League.

Meanwhile, in the rather less glamorous surroundings of Altrincham's Moss Lane, it is anticipated Owen Hargreaves will take the first steps on his comeback trail on Thursday evening.

Hargreaves pulled out of a planned first appearance in 18 months since surgery on both knees to cure a tendinitis problem last week, but Sir Alex Ferguson was more bullish when he spoke about the England international last Friday and it would be a disappointment if he was not involved against Burnley's second string.

LONDON - Apakah Patrice Evra lebih baik dari Ashley Cole? Setidaknya itulah pernyataan yang terlontar dari mantan bintang Manchester United Denis Irwin.

Irwin, yang merumput bersama Setan Merah selama 12 tahun (1990-2002), menilai Evra menunjukkan peningkatan performa sepanjang musim ini. Mantan bek yang mencatat 529 kali penampilan dengan United tak segan membandingkannya dengan bek Chelsea Ashley Cole.

Mencoba tetap obyektif, Irwin memilih Evra sebagai bek terbaik saat ini. “Ya, Patrice adalah bek nomor satu saat ini,” akunya, seperti dilansir Goal, Jumat (19/3/2010).

“Musim ini, Ashley Cole memang tampil memukau. Tapi, Patrice juga tak kalah mengagumkan dan tahun ini dia yang terbaik,” tambah bek yang mengantongi medali juara Premier League pada 1999 silam.

Disamping itu, pria asal Republik Irlandia ini sempat memberikan komentarnya tentang rekan tim Evra, Wayne Rooney, yang saat ini tengah bersinar dan menunjukkan kemampuannya mencetak angka setiap pertandingan. Namun, dia mengklaim Evra memilki peran tak kalah penting dengan bomber 24 tahun tersebut.

“Penampilan Wayne Rooney memang luar biasa, terutama sepanjang tiga bulan terakhir. Tapi, Patrice juga sangat konsisten bermain dalam level yang sangat tinggi,” tegas pria kelahiran 44 tahun silam.

Patrice Evra says he has not read a paper or watched TV since Manchester United's defeat to Bayern

Patrice Evra called on his Manchester United team-mates to forget their recent disappointments and pour their energies into finishing the season strongly. Evra has won the league in every one of his three seasons with Manchester United since joining from Monaco for £5m in January 2006, and the full-back said he believed his team could win all of their remaining games, even if they would still need Chelsea to slip up in order to win the title.

"When the league is finished I want to go to the mirror, look at myself and know I have done everything," said Evra. "I don't want any regrets. It is not about what I expect Chelsea to do. If we want to win the league they need to drop some points. But I am focused on Manchester United.

"Is it difficult for us to win five games in a row? I don't think so. We can do it. I was very sad and upset on Wednesday night but when I woke up the next day I realised I had the privilege to win the league again, for the fourth time in a row.

"I am not saying that just to look good. I believe it. I am ready for the fight."

Evra is still struggling to understand how United ended up losing to Bayern after charging into a three-goal lead. However, he is not pinning the blame on his defensive colleague Rafael, whose dismissal four minutes into the second half was seen by many as the turning point.

"I hear a lot of people are blaming Rafael," said Evra. "I cannot believe that. He is a young player. OK, he got the red card but Manchester United can win games with 10 men. If something needs to be blamed it is the team. Maybe we did not do the job properly in the first leg.

"I do know it was a huge shock. I was so disappointed and so sad. I have not turned the TV on or read a paper since."

Patrice Evra has played more football this season than any other Manchester United player.

He’s started all 33 Premier League fixtures and, since the turn of the year, missed just one match: the FA Cup exit to Leeds. But don’t dare suggest the Frenchman's feeling tired.

“People say: ‘Patrice is playing a lot of games’. But tiredness is not an excuse. I need to fight until the end. I will finish this season by winning a trophy.”

More of the same, then. Since arriving in England four years ago, Evra has won the league in every full season at Old Trafford.

Now, however, United trail Chelsea by two points, with just five games to play. The advantage in the race for English football’s most prized piece of silverware lies squarely with the Londoners, although Evra won't surrender without a fight.

“Nobody has ever won four titles in a row,” he says. “This opportunity is a big privilege – the three titles I’ve already won are not as important as this one.

“But United need to win every game and I’m confident we can do it. I don’t say that just for the fans or because it sounds good in an interview: this is how I feel inside.”
