Ronaldo Akan Bermain Lawan Manchester United



Bintang Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo, bakal tampil ketika melawan bekas klubnya, Manchester United, Sabtu (2/8/2014) di Michigan. Demikian pernyataan pelatih Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti.

Los Blancos tengah mengadakan tur pra-musim di Amerika Serikat dengan mengikuti International Champions Cup. Sudah dua pertandingan El Real tampil tanpa mantan pemain termahal dunia itu, dan mereka selalu menelan kekalahan. Terakhir, juara Eropa ini menyerah 0-1 dari AS Roma, Rabu (30/7/2014), di Dallas.

"Cristiano bekerja dengan baik, sendirian. Dia memiliki dua sesi (kemarin)," ujar Ancelotti, seperti dikutip AS.

"Kami akan melihat jika dia bisa bermain pada pertandingan berikutnya melawan Manchester United."

"Saya pikir masalah pada lututnya sudah selesai. Kami harus berhati-hati. Dia sangat tenang. Masalahnya sudah terlupakan."

Memang, dalam beberapa bulan terakhir cedera lutut menjadi momok bagi Ronaldo. Akibatnya, performa mantan pemain Manchester United ini tak maksimal, termasuk ketika membela Portugal di putaran final Piala Dunia 2014, di mana mereka langsung tersingkir di fase penyisihan grup.

Ancelotti berharap kondisi Ronaldo terus membaik, sehingga dia benar-benar sudah siap tampil saat Madrid menjalani laga perdana resmi di awal musim 2014/15 pada 12 Agustus mendatang di Cardiff melawan rival mereka di Primera Division, Sevilla. Ini adalah laga Piala Super Eropa, yang mempertemukan juara Liga Champions dan jawara Liga Europa.

Van Gaal relishes European challenge

Louis van Gaal is grateful for the opportunity to test his Manchester United side against the cream of Europe in the International Champions Cup.

The Reds face Real Madrid on Saturday after posting victories against Serie A giants AS Roma and Inter Milan and the prospect of meeting the Champions League holders is an exciting one for the Dutch coach.

Another positive result against the Spanish side will not only clinch a place in the final of the competition but continue to boost morale ahead of the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League season.

"I’m very pleased," van Gaal told MUTV. "It’s the third match and we make big steps. I’m very pleased. Of course, it gives confidence to the players and that’s the most important thing. We are playing a new system and they adapt very quickly.*

"Furthermore, we are up against AS Roma, second in the Italian league, and Inter, third in the Italian league. It is not a little club that we have to beat and now it's Real Madrid. It’s nice to play against such teams and that you can show that you are at least equal."

Cleverley ready for Real Madrid


Tom Cleverley is striving for a fourth successive pre-season victory when Real Madrid provide the opposition in front of a bumper crowd at Michigan Stadium.

The Manchester United midfielder is hoping to be part of history as the clash with the European champions is expected to be played in front of the highest-ever attendance for an association football match in the United States.

The Reds are in a strong position to progress to the International Champions Cup final and a draw with Real would be enough to finish above AS Roma and Inter Milan in the table. Even if Real, who could be boosted by the appearance of former Red Cristiano Ronaldo, emerge victorious, a draw between the two Serie A clubs would still send United through on the head-to-head record.

"We really want to win this tournament and get the manager off to a good start," explained Cleverley. "We want to build our confidence and that will happen if we can beat top-quality opposition like Roma and Inter. Hopefully we can do the same against Real Madrid.

"It’s nice to be a part of that [potential record crowd] and you can see how the game is growing as a sport here. Last time we were at FedEx Field [in Washington DC], there were over 80,000 fans here against Barcelona. Saturday will beat that and I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can play some part.

"We all felt we could have played better against Roma but conditions weren’t easy. I think we’ve progressed again [against Inter] and are getting used to the system. We’re getting fitter and stronger and gaining more confidence and it’s good to have five points out of six."

United overcame Inter in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless affair in Washington DC with the 24-year-old successfully converting his spot-kick.

"We’re happy," added Cleverley. "It’s more minutes under the belt and a win. You had two very organised teams out there and it was hard to break each other down but I thought we did enough in the second half to win the game. I thought we deserved it and it’s good to get more points on the board.

"We’d been practising penalties in training and that paid off with five confident and relaxed penalties and David De Gea was also very close to saving a couple, so we’re pleased."
