Re: [FA] Southampton vs Man Utd (30/1 00.15)
26/01/2011 10:32 - ManUtd.com, Adam Bostock
Rafael misses cup tie Rafael will miss Saturday's FA Cup tie at Southampton after being stretchered off in Tuesday night's dramatic win at Blackpool. The Brazilian full-back clashed heads with Marlon Harewood in the latter stages of United's 3-2 victory and was swiftly taken to a local hospital. He was not detained overnight, however, and was able to travel back with the rest of the Reds squad to Manchester. Sir Alex Ferguson told ManUtd.com this morning: "It's a straightforward one. He has concussion and will miss Saturday's game." The timing is unfortunate for Rafael - he also missed last weekend's match against Birmingham City due to a one-match suspension for his two yellow cards at Tottenham Hotspur.

Re: [FA] Southampton vs Man Utd (30/1 00.15)
wow, kemungkinan debut lindegaard + carrick dimaenin
Strong squad for Cup trip Sir Alex says he will be taking a strong squad to St Mary’s for the FA Cup fourth round tie against Southampton despite being without a handful of first team regulars. Edwin van der Sar has been given the weekend off, while Patrice Evra (family bereavement) and Rafael (concussion) will not be travelling. Michael Carrick, who has been struggling with an ankle injury, is expected to be available providing he comes through training on Friday. “Michael will train today and hopefully he will be okay to travel,” the boss told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “We picked up one or two bruises at Blackpool the other night - it was quite a physical game, but we’ll still take a strong squad because it won’t be an easy match; away games in cup ties never are. “I went to see Southampton play Oldham earlier this month and they won 6-0. They're having a good season. They play good football and I'm sure they'll have a go." Sir Alex has a decision to make on who takes over in goal for the Reds with new signing Anders Lindegaard and Tomasz Kuszczak both vying for a starting spot. "It's a possibility [a debut for Anders],” confirmed the manager. “He and Tomasz will both travel." source : manutd |

Re: [FA] Southampton vs Man Utd (30/1 00.15)
United's Evra and Van de Sar miss Cup trip to Southampton
MANCHESTER, England | Fri Jan 28, 2011 10:58am GMT (Reuters) - Manchester United defender Patrice Evra will miss the FA Cup fourth round match at Southampton due to a family bereavement, manager Alex Ferguson said on Friday. Ferguson said goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who announced the previous day he would be retiring at the end of the season, would also not travel with the team to the south coast for Saturday's meeting with the League One (third division) side. Midfielder Michael Carrick, who missed the midweek 3-2 comeback victory over Blackpool in the Premier League with an ankle injury has returned to training and should be fit to travel, Ferguson said. The match (5:15 p.m.) pits the Premier League leaders against the club they lost the 1976 FA Cup final to, when a then second division Southampton sprung a major shock. The Saints are challenging for promotion in their league and Ferguson said he had been impressed with them when he watched them in a 6-0 victory over Oldham Athletic earlier this month. "They are having a really good season, it won't be an easy game," Ferguson told a news conference. "Away games in cup ties are never easy anyway so it should be a difficult but exciting game too because they definitely play good football and they have a go." Saints ready for United test Published: Fri Jan 28 2011, 1.33PM itv Southampton midfielder Richard Chaplow insists Nigel Adkins' side will approach the FA Cup clash with Manchester United just like any other game. The encounter on Saturday evening will rekindle memories of Saints' infamous giantkilling in 1976, when Bobby Stokes' solitary goal saw second-tier Saints overcome top-flight United in the final. The two teams come together in another David versus Goliath encounter on Saturday, although this time a further division separates the two sides. Southampton go into the match off the back of a goalless draw with Notts County and a 2-0 defeat at Tranmere, while United are in the midst of an imperious unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League. Despite the differing fortunes, Chaplow insists Saints do not feel any pressure and, if anything, believe it could boost their tilt at promotion from npower League One. "We're all really looking forward to the game," said Chaplow. "Obviously Manchester United need no introduction and hopefully we can put on a good spectacle. "We take every game as it comes. We're very level as a group and down to earth. "Things haven't gone for us in the last couple of games and we've got the hype now of a game against Manchester United, but we're going to keep our focus on the league as well. "It takes a bit of pressure away from the league where we're expected to win more games than we lose or draw and we're looking to get promoted so there's pressure on us in the league. "But on Saturday it's flipped around a bit and we're just looking forward to going out and enjoying ourselves. "It'll be no different for us as we'll approach it in the same way that we do every game."
