Re: [FA Cup] Derby County vs Manchester United
The FA Cup Offers Louis van Gaal a Shot at Manchester United Redemption
In spite of his team's recent misfortunes, Louis van Gaal found time to poke fun at his treatment in the media as he addressed the press ahead of Manchester United's FA Cup fourth-round clash with Derby County. He said, per BBC Sport: Quote:
And yet, for all the talk, he is still in his post. Given how poor things have been of late at the Old Trafford club, that has come as a slight surprise. It would have been easy to imagine him leaving either voluntarily or otherwise after the defeats to Norwich, Stoke City or Southampton, and yet the club appear determined to allow him to turn things around. And the FA Cup gives him a genuine opportunity to do so. With the league title a seemingly overwhelming long shot and the gruelling Europa League packed with fierce competition, just five wins stand between Van Gaal and United's first FA Cup since 2004. Of course, the same is true for every other team still in the tournament, but the impact on Van Gaal's United career would be highly significant. Firstly, if he can win it, that will surely increase his popularity with a fanbase that is sick of him and his style of play. Additionally, it would be an important milestone for the club as a whole—the first meaningful silverware won since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Of course, the problem with this thesis is that it currently seems a challenge for United to get past Derby, let alone look further ahead. However, if he can somehow engineer an improvement at United—something he was able to do in March and April of last year—the FA Cup could be a catalyst for some momentum. And that is something which is badly needed, especially as the club has acted in a way that suggests it does not intend to sack him midseason. Players and fans alike are thus stuck with Van Gaal. Dreaming up best-case scenarios for how the rest of the season could go is a welcome break from the frustration of the club's refusal to make s a change. It is not only FA Cup glory that could lead to a positive change. Last season, the cup defeat to Arsenal did, in fact, act as something of a catalyst. Angel Di Maria was sent off in that game, and without him Van Gaal amended his lineup and struck upon a winning formula. It was in the very next game that United played some of the best football they ever have under the Dutchman as they blew Tottenham Hostpur away in a 3-0 win. As well as the absence of Di Maria and the subsequent tactical rethink, there was impact of the blow felt by the loss to Arsenal, and the team seemed determined to right that wrong. Of course, a limp defeat to Derby is unlikely to have the same galvanising effect, especially since it would stand as another limp defeat among many. But glory or glorious failure further down the line in this competition could inspire something more out of this otherwise insipid side. It may feel like clutching at straws, but frankly, given how unlikely the prospect of Van Gaal turning things around at United feels, clutching at straws seems the only real option. Code:

28/01/2016 14:23, Report by Mark Froggatt VAN GAAL'S INJURY UPDATE ON FOUR REDS Louis van Gaal has confirmed Matteo Darmian will miss Manchester United’s Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie at Derby County on Friday, although he does not believe the injury is serious. “It’s more or less the same. Darmian is now out and maybe Michael Carrick shall come in but of course he’s not able to play 90 minutes. But it’s very good he is coming back. With Darmian, it is very positive actually. It’s not too severe but he’s not able to play against Derby.” Sent from my iPad Air 2 using Tapatalk |

Re: [FA Cup] Derby County vs Manchester United

Owen Prediksi MU Bakal Kesulitan Hadapi Derby County
Re: [FA Cup] Derby County vs Manchester United
OPINION: FANS HAVE ROLE TO PLAY AT DERBY ManUtd.com’s Mark Froggatt looks forward to the Emirates FA Cup tie at Derby County on Friday night and explains why the club’s travelling fans will once again have an important role to play… Whether the team has won, drawn or lost, Manchester United’s away fans have earned great credit in recent years and our travelling support is undoubtedly among the best in England. Game after game, away allocations are continuously oversubscribed and the noise generated by those lucky enough to get a ticket often drowns out the hosts. These are the hardcore fans, the traditionalists. They know every word to every chant and their praises are rightfully sung back by the appreciative players, who know the value of such support. Just ask Michael Carrick, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones. The injured first-team trio were all in the away end for this month’s trip to Anfield to witness their team-mates secure a hard-fought 1-0 win at Liverpool, easily the most hostile environment for United fans. They clearly embraced the experience and footage of Jones wildly celebrating Wayne Rooney’s winner went viral on social media, with the defender also filmed on the concourse at half-time amid chants of “Jonesy 1 Gerrard 0”. He later tweeted to say “our away fans are the best”, while Carrick admitted he’d “waited a long time to do an away game properly” and was “nearly thrown down three rows when we scored”. United’s away fans will be required again on Friday night for the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie against Derby County, and 5,472 travelling Reds will be at the iPro Stadium ready to cheer Louis van Gaal's men through thick and thin. The away attendance in Derbyshire will be the Reds' largest away end of the season (see table below) and you can expect quite a racket inside an enclosed venue that can host a capacity crowd of 33,597, as fans fittingly toast the end of another working week with a night at the football. Ander Herrera has become a fans’ favourite during his short time at United and that is mainly because of his endeavours on the pitch, but also due to the obvious love of football that emanates from his every action and interview. He scored two FA Cup goals on the road last season, with a belting volley at Yeovil Town and a stabbed finish at Preston North End, and both efforts were soundtracked by a thunderous away end. Those occasions captured his attention and the Spanish midfielder admitted this month he now hopes for away draws in the cup, just to relive the atmosphere generated at smaller stadiums in the Football League. “FA Cup away games are always special,” the 26-year-old acknowledged this week. “I don’t know why but they are! It’s a competition our fans love and we love it also.” Success at Derby is needed for many reasons, namely because of the requirement to bounce back from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford. But there is also a growing urgency on the terraces to succeed in the FA Cup, a historic and nostalgic competition the club has won 11 times but frustratingly not since the 2004 triumph over Millwall at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. A trip to Wembley is also long overdue and the sight of rivals Liverpool and Manchester City advancing to the Capital One Cup final this week has only heightened that ambition for many Reds. Of course, the players will ultimately decide the outcome of Friday’s big game in Derby but do not overlook the power and influence of United’s travelling fans. Their support is invaluable in times like these and the players will surely feed off the energy of our biggest away end this campaign. During his MUTV interview on Thursday, van Gaal was on the money with this closing statement: "The fans always have an impact and they always have a very positive impact on the players." The opinions expressed in this article are solely those of the author and should not be considered as representative of Manchester United Football Club.
