Re: United U21 Matches 2013/14
Joyce proud of Reds
Warren Joyce is delighted with his Manchester United side for reaching the Barclays Under-21 Premier League final against Chelsea. The young Reds won 1-0 at Liverpool's Anfield on Friday night courtesy of a superb strike by Andreas Pereira to set up a clash with the Londoners, although the date and venue are still to be decided. With makeshift centre-back pairing Paddy McNair and Charni Ekangamene again outstanding, the visitors shut out a side that finished one place above United in the table. "We've got no right to do what we've done," admitted Joyce. "We've not got a great balance in the team but have a lot of courage and determination. Several players were asked to play out of position and they have done it with great aplomb. "It was a great goal but, to be fair, we should have been two or three-up in the first half. James Wilson had two sitters for him really. I don't think they had a shot on goal until the second half but had more efforts in the last 15 minutes or so and should have scored. "Liverpool are a good footballing side who have been together all season," Joyce told BT Sport. "We've used 40-odd players but have just had a run since February of young players playing together. They gave us difficulties but we weathered it and I thought we deserved our win. "We've had a good run in the end. It's all about performance at a club like Manchester United and you want to develop players but it's also about winning things. This club is used to winning trophies and it's got to develop the players and teach them how to win as well." HTML Code:

Re: United U21 Matches 2013/14
Profil tim muda United & lawannya nanti malam di final BPL U21.
Manchester United Ahead of Manchester United’s Barclays Under-21 Premier League final against Chelsea at Old Trafford, Adam Marshall, contributing editor at ManUtd.com gives a profile of the side, who are defending the title won last May. Leading appearances 19 Reece James 18 Charni Ekangamene 17 Guillermo Varela Leading scorers 7 James Wilson 6 Jesse Lingard 3 James Weir, Larnell Cole Barclays Under-21 Premier League play-off semi-final result Manchester United (Pereira) 1-0 Liverpool Formation 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 Usual style of play James Wilson leads the line with two holding midfielders and an emphasis on width, especially on the right with Saidy Janko and Guillermo Varela doubling up down that side. Team's strengths They have a very high workrate with much stamina. Warren Joyce has got them to be well organised, especially defensively, and are very quick on the ball. Andreas Pereira, scorer of the only goal in the semi-final win over Liverpool, sometimes offers some magic to complement the hard work of the team. Team's weakness A dependency on Wilson to get the goals can result in a lack of cutting edge. We can dominate matches but sometimes not create as many chances as possession would suggest. The manager Warren Joyce is a former player for Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley and Hull City in the Football League in the 1980s and 1990s. He took over as sole coach of the reserves, then the Under-21 side in 2010, having coached for two years alongside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Last season, he guided the team to success in the inaugural Barclays Under-21 Premier League, beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final. He has been assisted by another former United legend Nicky Butt this season who is also helping interim first-team manager Ryan Giggs. Three players to watch James Wilson (18, forward) Wilson has led the line admirably this season, top-scoring with seven in the league. The England Under-19 international is lightning quick and has continued his habit of playing in teams in advance of his years by featuring mainly for the Under-21s while still eligible for the Under-18s, after pushing his way into the team in December. His form for the U21s was such that he won a place on the first-team bench for the Barclays Premier League trip to Newcastle United last month, and then scored twice on his full debut in the 3-1 Barclays Premier League victory over Hull City. Ben Pearson (19, midfielder) A talent in the middle of the park, largely as a holding midfielder, Pearson joined the club 10 years ago and has worked his way through the ranks. He is good at going box-to-box and putting his foot in, which can upset referees, as well as creating play. He started in last year's final v Tottenham Hotspur. Saidy Janko (18, defender/midfielder) Signed from FC Zurich on deadline day in August last year, the Switzerland Under-19 international can play right-back or right-wing. For the Under-21s this powerful player, whose style resembles Antonio Valencia, has performed largely the latter, teaming up with Guillermo Varela to threaten the left flank of opponents. He has been nominated for the Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year award, won by Adnan Januzaj last year, along with Reece James and Charni Ekangamene. BU21PL leading scorers 11 Lewis Baker 9 John Swift 8 Isaiah Brown BU21PL leading appearances 22 John Swift 21 Lewis Baker 20 Andreas Christensen, Islam Feruz 18 Isaiah Brown Barclays Under-21 Premier League play-off semi-final result Manchester City (Ntcham) 1-1 Chelsea (Feruz)* *Chelsea won on penalty shoot-out Usual formation 4-3-3. Usual style of play Chelsea's younger sides play in a similar style to the first team, with possession football central to the ethos of the Academy. Dermot Drummy's side tend to begin in a 4-3-3 with the three midfielders interchanging positions regularly, while pace and creativity from the flanks are in no short supply. Team's strengths On the ball there must be few more aesthetically pleasing young teams around. This Chelsea side have scored plenty of goals this season, many of which would make a fine advertisement for the game. A significant proportion of this side have come through the Academy ranks together and have benefitted from the experience of going far in the FA Youth Cup, the NextGen Series and UEFA Youth League competitions. Chelsea Under-21s manager: Dermot Drummy Drummy has been at Chelsea since 2007, originally joining to coach the Under-16 team before, in 2009, taking charge of the Under-18s, whom he led to the FA Youth Cup a year later, and then the reserves (later the Under-21s) in 2011. Prior to that, Dermot coached at Arsenal, where he had been a young professional before a playing career that also took in Blackpool and several non-league teams, re-joining the Gunners' backroom staff under Liam Brady after hanging up his boots. Three key players Lewis Baker (19, midfielder) Captain of the side, Baker joined as an Under-10 and made his first-team debut as a substitute against Derby County in the FA Cup in January. The 19-year-old is a two-footed and creative, technical midfielder who has a penchant for spectacular goals. Most recently his back-heeled effort against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium helped his side finish top of the Barclays Under-21 Premier League table. He is an England Under-19 international and was a part of the 2012 FA Youth Cup-winning team. John Swift (18, midfielder) John has been at Chelsea since he was an Under-14 player and is a hard-working, box-to-box midfielder. This season he has added more goals to his game, contributing nine in 21 Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearances, and earning the distinction of being the only ever-present in the side. Like Baker, Swift is an England Under-19 international, was part of the 2012 FA Youth Cup-winning team and made his first-team debut as a late substitute in Chelsea's final-day 2-1 victory over Cardiff City last weekend. Andreas Christensen (18, defender) Despite having only just turned 18, this tall, ball-playing centre-back has represented Denmark Under-21, having joined Chelsea from Brondby in the summer of 2012 as a first-year scholar. Since then his appearances at the heart of the Chelsea youth and Under-21 teams have been hugely impressive, and he earned a place on the first team's post-season tour to the United States last May. 2013/14 BU21PL match to remember Bolton Wanderers 0-5 Chelsea (16 Dec). The Blues ended 2013 in style thanks to an Izzy Brown hat-trick sandwiched between two thunderbolts from Baker and Swift, and completed a sequence of three wins that had yielded 14 goals and none conceded. In a free-flowing and clinical performance, Baker got things under way with a stunning long-range effort, while Brown added a second on the half-hour with a powerful finish. He added two more tidy strikes soon after the break, with the icing on the cake supplied by the excellent Swift in injury time. "It was a pleasure to watch, not only the football attacking-wise but the desire to run and track and do all parts of the game," said Drummy. "Both teams could have scored goals in the first half but as we kept the ball they tired and we controlled it after the break. "The goals were fantastic but it's another clean sheet as well. We defended as a team from front to back and that's great to see. We've had a great half of the season and days like this are a pleasure to come away from. We have got to push on and try and win things, so let's see where we go." Re: United U21 Matches 2013/14
Man United U21 1-2 Chelsea U21: Lewis Baker bags winner to hand Dermot Drummy's side Premier League title
Lewis Baker was the hero as Chelsea came from behind to beat Manchester United and win an absorbing Under-21 Premier League final at Old Trafford. The midfield master seized his opportunity in the 79th minute, capitalising on loose United defensive play to cut across the edge of the area and curl an immaculate shot past Ben Amos. It was the third of three wonderful goals in a final that lived up to pre-match expectations and left a 13,000-strong crowd richly entertained. United, the defending champions, had taken an early lead when Tom Lawrence, who bore more than a slight resemblance to Ryan Giggs as he tore down the wing in his No 11 shirt, bent in a well-taken goal. Giggs, watching on in the stands after a busy day in which he had met prospective new manager Louis van Gaal in Holland, would have been impressed by the young winger's composure when James Wilson teed him up following Saidy Janko's low cross. Chelsea equalised 10 minutes later when Belgian whizzkid Charly Musonda drove at the United defence, left three red-shirted defenders trailing and fired a low shot into the bottom corner. The visitors were the superior team after that, showing the greater threat going forward and looking resolute at the back on the occasions when United troubled them. The win caps a double for the London club's Academy after they beat Fulham to claim the FA Youth Cup last week. Quote:
Chelsea had John Swift in midfield, days after he made his senior debut as a substitute in the final day 2-1 win over Cardiff City on Sunday. Baker had the game's first opening, running at the heart of the United defence and letting fly from 25 yards, only to see his effort repelled by an athletic Ben Amos save. After the two sides had traded goals, Swift curled a shot narrowly off target after Musonda's low ball across was dummied by Islam Feruz. United had a strong penalty appeal waved away five minutes before half-time when Paddy McNair was bundled over by Ola Aina but the referee was unmoved. Chelsea pushed for the winner right from the off in the second-half, with baker squandering a great opportunity when he blazed over from 10 yards out after Ruben Loftus-Cheek played him in. Moments later, Loftus-Cheek saw his angled shot blocked by the legs of Amos following good work by feruz out wide. United's cutting edge was dulled when Wilson limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring problem midway through the second-half. It could create a headache for England Under-19 coach John Peacock, who has picked Wilson in his squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers. After Baker had struck, United finally awaoke from their slumber but it took until stoppage time to create a meaningful opening when substitute Tyler Blackett's audacious long-range shot forced Jamal Blackman into his first real save of the night. But it was too little, too late for United as Chelsea ran out worthy winners. Code:
