MOURINHO'S TEAM NEWS FOR EVERTON TRIP

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Luke Shaw could miss out on the weekend trip to Everton but Manchester United will welcome Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini back from suspension.

Shaw was withdrawn at half-time during the convincing 4-1 win over West Ham United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday with Daley Blind replacing him in the left-back slot. However, Pogba and Fellaini, who will be hoping to face his former club, are available for the Goodison Park encounter - even if another ex-Everton player Wayne Rooney is ruled out after also picking up five yellow cards this term.

There are numerous options for the boss in attacking positions, though, with Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan grasping their opportunities to impress in midweek. Mourinho also suggested centre-backs Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly appear unlikely to feature on Merseyside.

"The injury [to Luke] is a pity," he told MUTV. "We were on this process of developing him as a player - he has a lot to learn and great potential to develop so we were giving him 90 minutes. Not consecutive matches but 90 minutes against Feyenoord then, one week later, 90 minutes against West Ham, but he got this little injury.

"In the squad, we are in a very good position with injuries - the two central defenders and Luke is what we have. Everybody is doing really well to keep that record good in such a difficult season with so many matches. Hopefully, we progress in the cup competitions and have more cup games to play in the second part of the season.

"Wayne's absence comes in the sequence of the yellow cards that stopped Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] playing against Arsenal, the sequence of yellow cards that stopped Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba playing against West Ham. But, okay, everybody makes mistakes and [it's] no problem."

The only absentee for Everton is defensive midfielder Mo Besic, who is due to return in February, as Ronald Koeman has no fresh injury worries.

Set the scene for me… Manchester United and Everton are both in need of a win after stuttering in the Premier League of late. The Reds have been desperately unlucky at home recently, drawing the last four league fixtures at Old Trafford in games that could all quite easily have ended in victory. Recent performances will have buoyed everyone of a Reds persuasion, leading Jose Mourinho and several of his players to assert that results will soon follow. Ronald Koeman's Everton started the season fairly well but are now without a win in the league since October, with the Dutchman "worried" by recent displays. The teams are separated by just the one point in the table, adding a little extra spice to what is almost always an entertaining affair.

Our midweek win in the EFL Cup should give us confidence... Indeed it should! Arguably the best performance of the season so far, the 4-1 win over West Ham United showcased an exciting verve to United's attack, as the electric front four of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Wayne Rooney put the Hammers to the sword. Two goals apiece from Ibra and Martial secured a place in the EFL Cup semi-finals against Hull City, but the overall team display was widely praised – let's hope for more of the same on Sunday.

Is there any team news? Luke Shaw could miss out and his fellow defenders Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly also appear unlikely to feature, but Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini will both be available for selection after serving a one-match suspension on Wednesday. Rooney was a star performer in that match and would have no doubt been relishing the opportunity to equal or even break United’s all-time goalscoring record at his old stomping ground, but a yellow card picked up in the second half of the cup win rules him out of this one. Everton also have a fairly clean bill of health, with James McCarthy in line to return to the fold following a recent hamstring injury. Mo Besic is the club’s one long-term absentee; the Bosnian sustained a serious knee injury in Rooney’s testimonial match before the start of the season.

What have our players been saying? "Our 3-0 win at Everton last season was probably one of our best performances of the campaign. It will be totally different this year, though; they’ve changed their manager and a lot of their players. It won’t be easy, but we have to be focused and ready.” – Matteo Darmian

Any trivia for me? Although Rooney will be denied the chance to break Sir Bobby Charlton's record at the home of his former club, Fellaini could make his 100th United appearance if he features against his old employers.

Goodison Park memang bukan tempat angker lagi bwd MU,,tp ttp harus waspada apalagi MU dh ga pernah menang di EPL sejak draw vs Burnley. Carrick harus main lagi di tengah biar Herrera or Pogba bs lbh bantu serangan. Mikhi juga hrs main lagi dari menit awal.

Terserah Mou mau yang mana. Pakai 3 gelandang pun bukan berarti susah nyerang. Hanya lebih balance menurutku.

Yang pasti untuk sementara jauhi dulu nama2 Lingard dan Fellaini. Yang bagus2 aja yang main.

Ternyata Mou lebih memilih menguatkan lini tengah dengan mencadangkan 1 pemain menyerang. Setidaknya ada super sub di Mata yg siap turun.
