Manchester United striker Anthony Martial believes he can forge a great partnership with Marcus Rashford

Anthony Martial is just as excited about the emergence of Marcus Rashford as Manchester United fans and is looking forward to forging a great partnership with the 18-year-old.

Martial had been the shining light of United's season after his £58million move from Monaco in August but his impact is in danger of being eclipsed by the academy product who scored his seventh goal in just his 12th appearance against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The two forwards showcase similar qualities on the pitch including blistering pace, and the Frenchman admits he is not sure who would win in a footrace.

'I really don’t know who is quicker but I can tell you that he’s certainly very quick,' the 20-year-old told the Sun.

'He’s a player who is very mature in spite of his young age. He does not feel the pressure and I reckon he’s very bright and intelligent in his style of play. These are the qualities that have set him apart.

'We definitely like to link up and combine well, the two of us. I think that with a few more training sessions, this can only improve.'

Martial is likely to be a part of Didier Deschamps France side who will host Euro 2016 in the summer after his break-out season at United and Rashford has given himself an outside chance of being part of the England set-up with his recent displays.

The Frenchman was seen as a signing for the future when he first arrived but has quickly become a key player at Old Trafford. However, Martial still believes he could have achieved more this season.

'On a personal level, the season has gone reasonably well but there have been occasions when I could have done better,' he said.

When I played Manchester United, it wasn't so much their attacking style which scared me. It was more their players who could always turn it on for the big moments like Ryan Giggs, Eric Cantona and Andy Cole.

In the last year or so United have lacked this type of player but after his FA Cup semi-final winner against Everton, there is no doubt they have a man for the big occasion in Anthony Martial.

Despite being just 20 and making his first club appearance at Wembley, nothing fazed him and when the chance came in the last minute you just knew Martial would lap it up.

He and Marcus Rashford are developing a really good relationship and I believe the Frenchman has what it takes to replace Wayne Rooney as the leading light in this team.

Martial now has more goals and assists combined than any other United player in all competitions this season and he is only going to get better.
