MATCH PREVIEW : WATFORD V UNITED

Any team news for me? Club captain Michael Carrick issued a statement on Friday saying he has undergone a heart procedure and that he will be available for selection soon. Meanwhile, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are working hard at the Aon Training Complex and are hopefully not far off a return to action. However, there were apparently no fresh injury concerns following Saturday's match, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba both continued their comebacks. For the hosts; Isaac Success, Craig Cathcart, Younes Kaboul, Tommie Hoban, Nathaniel Chalobah and Miguel Britos are all set to miss out, though Troy Deeney could return from suspension.

How are Watford getting on? Marco Silva's side have been one of the surprise packages of the season, and, having claimed impressive victories over West Ham (2-0) and Newcastle (3-0) in their last two Premier League outings, will be high on confidence going into Tuesday's clash. The Hornets also beat Arsenal earlier in the campaign, and played out an entertaining draw with Liverpool on the opening day of the season, illustrating the fact that they aren't overawed in big games. Though, Watford have won just eight points from a possible 16 at home this term, including a 6-0 defeat to Manchester City, showing they are by no means infallible on home turf.

One to watch... Signed from Brazilian side Fluminense this summer for a reported £13million, Richarlison has already proved himself to be one of the signings of the season. The fleet-footed attacker - who can play on either wing - has contributed to nine goals (scoring five, assisting four) in just 13 Premier League appearances, so far. Combining express pace with superb dribbling ability, the 20-year-old has been a thorn in every side the Hornets have faced this term, so there is no doubt United's defenders will have plans in place with how to deal with the Brazil Under-20 international.

What's our record like against them? The Reds have won 18 of the 28 previous encounters, and nine of the last 10, between the sides, while there have been five draws and Watford have claimed five victories. The Hornets beat United 3-1 at Vicarage Road last term, though, they had not beaten us since 1986 prior to that result. Memorable wins over Watford include two thumpings in the 2006/07 season, and a Frank Stapleton hat-trick in a 4-1 victory in 1983.

Did you know? Between 1987 and 2016, United secured 11 straight wins over Watford, a run which included 29 goals for, and only seven goals against.

Who's the referee? Jonathan Moss will take charge of Tuesday's match at Vicarage Road. The 47-year-old official from Sunderland, who oversaw United's 1-0 win over Spurs earlier in the season, will be assisted by Eddie Smart and Andy Halliday, with Stuart Attwell on fourth-official duties.

Rivals watch : Tuesday sees Spurs travel to 2015/16 champions Leicester, while Brighton host Crystal Palace and Newcastle travel to West Brom on the back of four successive Premier League defeats. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Arsenal welcome Huddersfield to the Emirates, Chelsea face a struggling Swansea, leaders Manchester City play Southampton and Liverpool face Stoke City.

TEAM NEWS FOR UNITED'S CLASH AT WATFORD

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is preparing his troops for Tuesday's Premier League clash at Watford and considering his options.

The Reds have named the same starting XI for our previous two domestic fixtures, the home wins over Newcastle United and Brighton, but a tricky game on the road against the impressive Hornets may prompt a change.

Marcos Rojo, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all back in the frame, of course, and Michael Carrick has revealed he is close to a return following a heart procedure. There could be a hope Eric Bailly is available soon with Phil Jones also on the road to recovery after aggravating an injury on international duty with England.

The boss may tighten things up after expressing some concern at the space allowed to Newcastle and Brighton, and commenting after the game: "It was difficult for Pobga and [Nemanja] Matic to press. Marcus [Rashford] and [Anthony] Martial, [are] without the tactical knowledge that another player has to close the spaces in between the full-back and winger so, even with Paul, we were a little bit in trouble."

Pogba played the full 90 minutes on Saturday, even though Mourinho still thinks he is building his way up to full fitness, while the Hornets can call upon centre-forward Troy Deeney after he served a three-match ban. Younes Kaboul, Isaac Success, Nathaniel Chalobah and former Red Craig Cathcart have all been sidelined of late, but Kiko Feminia proved his fitness at Newcastle, in an impressive 3-0 win for Marco Silva's men.

"Against Watford [last season], I was very upset with their first goal after someone put Martial in the hospital and the referee let it go," said the manager. "That is the reason why I was very upset.

"I think Watford have made progress. I think they have a squad full of very good players, that are not normal to be a mid-table team. They have a good coach and they improved a lot from last season."

Default Re: [EPL] Watford 2-4 Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku continues to show lack of confidence while Ashley Young had every reason to celebrate against his old club - FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED

* Manchester United beat Watford 4-2 at Vicarage Road in the Premier League
* Romelu Lukaku showed signs his lack of goals has dented his confidence
* Ashley Young has boosted his contract hopes after his recent performances

Manchester United held off a Watford fightback record a 4-2 victory at Vicarage Road on Tuesday.

Ashley Young scored twice for United before Anthony Martial extended the lead. Troy Deeny converted a penalty for Watford before Abdoulaye Doucoure got a second. Jesse Lingard settled the match with a fine solo effort.

Here are five things we learned from the entertaining encounter.

Romelu Lukaku arguably should have been nowhere near Hertfordshire after his kick on Brighton’s Gaitan Bong, which the FA decided did not warrant action. The striker also went into this with one goal in his last 10 games.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic breathing down his neck from the bench, Lukaku had to respond. He started the move for United’s opener which, against the run of play, got them going. In the second half, though, there were signs of a lack of confidence, when he opted to cross rather than shoot and fluffed his lines with one chance when it looked easier to score. Must improve.

Former Watford academy kid Ashley Young had no issue celebrating his goals. And why should he? Both strikes were sublime. Both warranted celebrations, even if he did make his Premier League debut with the Hornets over a decade ago.

Young had a chance for his hat-trick before half-time from a free-kick 25 yards out. ‘If Ashley scores, we’re on the pitch,’ United fans sang. It hit the wall.

The man in the market for a new contract certainly did himself no harm here.

Ashley Young scored twice for Manchester United as they beat Watford 4-2 on Tuesday. Young has done his hopes of earning a new United contract no harm with his recent form

Marco Silva was labelled the ‘new Mourinho’ by some after Watford’s record-equalling start to a top-flight season.

This was a big test and Silva was certainly brave. He did not set his side up with a defensive brick wall or to simply counter-attack. They played with two up front and were on top in the opening stages before Young’s screamer knocked the wind out of their sails.

They gave it a go in the second half too.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City won 6-0 when they visited Vicarage Road in September. It was only natural their neighbours and title rivals would be judged accordingly.

Jose Mourinho’s side had been dominant at home this season but average away, having suffered successive losses at Chelsea and Huddersfield ahead of this. They had a point to prove.

Three goals before the break did that, though they were given a scare in the second half when Watford pulled it back to 3-2 with six minutes to go. Not quite as convincing as Pep’s lot but they got the job done.

Watford’s Richarlison had the odd chance from crosses and hit the crossbar with a header but United’s back three tracked the Brazilian well.

Victor Lindelof in particular put up a fight with Richarlison and Andre Gray and showed good awareness and positioning.

After his mistake at Huddersfield cost United last month, he appeared confident and put in a much-improved performance. Maybe the £31million summer signing is starting to settle in.
