Default Re: [UCL] Manchester United vs CSKA Moscow

EARLY TEAM NEWS V CSKA MOSCOW

Jose Mourinho has admitted he will make changes to his starting XI for Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League Group A decider against CSKA Moscow.

Speaking to MUTV at the Aon Training Complex on Monday, the boss confirmed Nemanja Matic is definitely injured and unavailable for Tuesday night’s European tie at Old Trafford.

“We have problems, we have injuries,” Jose said. “Matic is injured and when I say he is injured, he is injured. I am not going to make him play so Matic is out. A couple of others guys are playing every match and they also need a rest. More importantly, the other guys deserve an opportunity to play.”

On the subject of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who did not travel to Arsenal on Saturday, Mourinho revealed the striker needed time out to work on his rehabilitation from the knee injury he recently returned from.

“He is okay but he needs, now and again, specific work on the muscle that supports that knee that went through such a difficult surgery,” the boss told us. “When he works really hard on that, he gets fatigue and you cannot play with fatigue. It is something that we knew would happen now and again, that he needs to stop playing to become ready for harder work for prevention.”

The boss later told reporters that Sergio Romero will start against CSKA Moscow with Joel Pereira on the bench as our back-up goalkeeper, providing David De Gea with a well-earned rest following his heroics against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Paul Pogba will also start against the Russian visitors, which Jose confirmed when asked how he has reacted to the red card he received in north London. “He's very happy to play tomorrow.

"It's the match that matters. He plays tomorrow. Of course, he's a bit tired because it was a huge match last weekend and just two days to recover for CSKA. But he's very happy to play tomorrow and to try to keep his momentum because since he was back from injury, he's been phenomenal.”

Asked if Luke Shaw might feature, the boss said: "He's working to have an opportunity and sooner or later, the opportunity will arrive. Because he deserves that opportunity. Selected for tomorrow, yes, for sure. To start or to be on the bench, I cannot answer."

Jose Mourinho set to start Paul Pogba against CSKA Moscow as Manchester United decide NOT to appeal red card

* Paul Pogba will start for Manchester United against CSKA Moscow this week
* Pogba was given red card for stamping on Hector Bellerin during win at Arsenal
* United had until 1pm on Monday afternoon to decide whether to appeal
* But they decided against an appeal and he now faces a three-match ban

Paul Pogba is set to start for Manchester United on Tuesday but will sit out this weekend’s derby after Jose Mourinho decided not to appeal against his three-match ban.

Mourinho felt that arguing over the red card Pogba received for stamping on Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin was a fruitless exercise so United head towards Sunday’s titanic clash with Manchester City without their talisman.

First, CSKA Moscow must be negotiated at Old Trafford as United bid to reach the Champions League last 16 for the first time in four seasons. Only a highly unlikely seven-goal defeat would see United fail, and they need only a point to top Group A.

Paul Pogba trains at Carrington on Monday as it was revealed Manchester United have decided not to appeal his red card against Arsenal - he will be banned for three games. Pogba, will face CSKA Moscow on Tuesday but misses three Premier League games

Sergio Romero will start in goal to give David de Gea a rest and although Mourinho did promise changes, United will not leave much to chance, as shown by Pogba’s inclusion.

Centre back Phil Jones trained on Monday but was ruled out by Mourinho along with Eric Bailly, Marouane Fellaini, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nemanja Matic.

‘Paul’s a bit tired because it was a huge match last weekend and just two days to recover for CSKA,’ Mourinho said. ‘He’s very happy to play and try to keep his momentum. Since he was back from injury he’s been phenomenal.’

United will be without the French midfielder for Premier League games against Bournemouth and West Brom, as well as City, over the next fortnight.

The FA are not looking into the midfielder’s alleged sarcastic applause following his sending-off by Andre Marriner at Arsenal, however.

That is not the only controversy to have involved Pogba during the past few days. Some City stars were left perplexed by the 24-year-old’s interview with the BBC’s Football Focus in which he seemed to hope rivals suffered injuries.

‘I don’t care — he can say whatever he wants,’ Kevin De Bruyne said. ‘We just have to be focused on whatever we’re doing.’

When the irony of Pogba now missing the derby was put to De Bruyne, he said: ‘I don’t believe in that s***. I’m a very straight- forward guy. If someone believes it is karma then OK.’

Pep Guardiola’s City side should be faced with Ibrahimovic, who also trained at Carrington, when they arrive from across town. He is sitting out the Moscow clash — as he did the Arsenal match — to guard against fatigue.

‘He needs sometimes very hard work on the area that supports the knee that had the problem,’ Mourinho explained. ‘When the hard work starts and fatigue comes, for that period of time he cannot play for these days.

‘The decision was to do that after Watford. He is in a cycle of work, in the gym and on the pitch. He is out again but back to normal after CSKA.’

CSKA could represent a huge opportunity for Luke Shaw, who Mourinho has named in his matchday squad. The left back has been out in the cold, playing just 48 minutes of football this season and without a start since April.

Mourinho said: ‘He’s working to have an opportunity and sooner or later that opportunity will arrive because he deserves that opportunity. Whether he starts or be on the bench I cannot answer.’

CSKA Moscow train at Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United clash as manager Viktor Goncharenko bemoans having to face Paul Pogba

* Viktor Goncharenko says CSKA Moscow will allow Paul Pogba to play his game
* The Frenchman will start for Manchester United after his red card at Arsenal
* Goncharenko says CSKA Moscow's bad fortune will be Manchester City's gain

CSKA Moscow coach Viktor Goncharenko believes his side's bad luck will be Manchester City's gain as he prepares to face Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

Pogba's red card against Arsenal on Saturday has been accepted by Manchester United, meaning the £90million midfielder is ruled out of Sunday's crucial Premier League derby and will instead take the field in the club's final Champions League group game.

Pogba might otherwise have expected to be given the night off in midweek, with the Red Devils' progress all-but assured.

CSKA Moscow will be hoping to secure their place in the Champions League knockout rounds. The Russia side must better the result of FC Basle against Benfica in the Group A finale

'Of course Pogba is a player who is able to do anything on the pitch - it will make things easier for Manchester City and not for us,' said Goncharenko.

'Our young players will have something to learn from him playing in the game but at the same time we cannot allow him to play at his best and show everything he is capable of.'

Goncharenko arrived in England a matter of hours after his predecessor at CSKA, Leonid Slutsky, left Championship strugglers Hull by mutual consent.

That is not how the former Russia boss envisaged his move to England playing out but Goncharenko was unsurprised, if not unsympathetic.

'Any manager should be ready for a sacking at any time,' he said.

'Sometimes it is not even based on results. Of course we wished Leonid to succeed but this is life, it is football.'

CSKA's slim chance of reaching the next phase requires them to beat United as a first point of order, though Basel's result at Benfica and goal difference also have a part to play.

Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev was unaware United are on the cusp of equalling a club record of 40 successive home games unbeaten but is focused on the task at hand.

'Of course Old Trafford is a special stadium, always a big attendance and I have a special feeling playing there,' he said.

'To be honest I didn't know about this record and I hope we will be the first to end it.'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out of Manchester United's Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow... but Jose Mourinho hints Luke Shaw could make first start of the season

* Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffered setback after Manchester United win at Watford
* Striker came on for final two minutes of the Premier League clash
* But manager Jose Mourinho admits he will miss match against CSKA Moscow
* However, the veteran striker is expected to be available for Man City game

Jose Mourinho promised changes to the Manchester United team this week but Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be one of them.

The striker is between the Carrington gym and training pitches as he continues to undergo rehabilitation from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Ibrahimovic is not available for Tuesday’s Champions League match against CSKA Moscow but Mourinho expects him to be back in contention when Manchester City arrive at the weekend.

‘Zlatan is not injured,’ Mourinho said. ‘He needs sometimes very hard work on the muscular area that supporters the knee.

‘When the period with that hard work comes so does the fatigue. These days he cannot play and we decided to do that after Watford.

Since returning from a cruciate knee ligament injury in November, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made four appearances for Manchester United but has yet to start a match. United boss Jose Mourinho admits the striker still needs more time to strengthen his knee

‘He’s divided between the gym and the pitch and he will be out again tomorrow. He’ll be back to normal after CSKA.’

Mourinho confirmed Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Marouane Fellaini are all still sidelined, adding that Sergio Romero and Paul Pogba will start at Old Trafford.

Luke Shaw will be named in the squad but Mourinho is still debating whether to give the left back a first start of the season.

‘I’m going to make a few but not too many changes,’ Mourinho added. ‘We haven’t qualified or finished first yet. There are other clubs involved. I need to keep a certain balance.

‘When you speak about Luke you are right, he’s working for an opportunity. Sooner or later it will arrive because he deserves it. Selected tomorrow - yes for sure. To start or be on the bench I cannot answer.’

The Champions League clash could hand Luke Shaw a first start of the season for United

Default Re: [UCL] Manchester United vs CSKA Moscow

PREVIEW: MANCHESTER UNITED V CSKA MOSCOW

Set the scene for me… Manchester United face CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night in the final game of this season’s Champions League group stage. The Reds will be on a high after recording three consecutive wins, the most recent of which was a 3-1 triumph over Premier League rivals Arsenal 3-1 at the weekend, when Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard (2) got on the scoresheet. Jose Mourinho’s men need just a point to finish top of Group A and only a defeat of calamitous proportions would prevent us from qualifying as one of the top two sides.

Calamitous proportions, you say? Yes – we’d need to lose by seven goals to go out. The permutations are pretty complicated, so we’ll defer to UEFA.com’s explanation: "United would qualify in first place with a point (and can afford to lose by six goals and still go through). If they lose to CSKA and Basel do not win, United and CSKA will go through with first place determined by head-to-head results between the two; United won 4-1 in Russia and would have the superior overall goal difference if they lose 4-1. If CSKA and Basel win, the top two will be decided in a three-way head to head; United would be through in this situation unless they lost by seven goals, and would be top unless they lost by five goals."

How can I watch it? The game kicks off at 19:45 GMT and will be broadcast live on BT Sport in the UK. Subscribers to MUTV on Sky or Virgin Media, the club's MUTV app or online at MUTV.com will be able to watch the build-up from 17:45 GMT on the Match Day show and listen to radio commentary of the game before watching it in full at midnight. You can also keep up with all the action as it happens via ManUtd.com’s live match blog and by following our official Twitter account @ManUtd.

What’s the team news? Mourinho confirmed in his press conference on Monday that Nemanja Matic, David De Gea, Marouane Fellaini, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Michael Carrick would not be involved. Paul Pogba and Sergio Romero will start and Luke Shaw will feature, with Mourinho keen for the former to maintain his momentum ahead of a possible three-game domestic ban. The boss revealed he would make “a few but not too many changes” because he wants to “keep a certain balance in the team”.

It must be hard not to have one eye on the derby, though… Not according to Mourinho and Victor Lindelof, who also spoke to the media on Monday. “We are used to it – it's just the next match,” the manager said. “We don't think about the 'next next', it's just about tomorrow.” His Swedish defender added: “We're all professionals and we're focused on the game tomorrow. We want to have a good game and get the win.”

How are CSKA doing at the moment? Viktor Goncharenko’s side are currently third in the league, seven points behind leaders Lokomotiv Moscow, and are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions. They sit third in Champions League Group A and United won the reverse fixture between the sides in the Russian capital 4-1 in September, with Romelu Lukaku (2), Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all netting.

Who is the referee? The man in the middle will be Italian official Gianlucca Rocchi, who presided over United’s 2-1 Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid in August and whose last match in European competition was a 5-1 win for Spartak Moscow over Sevilla in October.

Who else is playing this week? Chelsea are through to the last 16 and will secure first place in Group C with victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, or if Roma fail to beat Qarabag. On Wednesday, Liverpool play Spartak Moscow, Manchester City travel to Shakhtar Donetsk and Tottenham Hotspur host Apoel Nicosia. The Merseysiders need a draw to guarantee their progression to the knockout stages, while City and Spurs are already through as group winners.

Tuesday 5 December (all 19:45 GMT)
Benfica v Basel
Celtic v Anderlecht
Bayern Munich v Paris Saint-Germain
Roma v Qarabag
Chelsea v Atletico Madrid
Olympiacos v Juventus
Barcelona v Sporting Lisbon

Wednesday 6 December (all 19:45 GMT)
Liverpool v Spartak Moscow
Maribor v Sevilla
Shakhtar Donetsk v Manchester City
Feyenoord v Napoli
Porto v Monaco
Leipzig v Besiktas
Tottenham Hotspur v Apoel Nicosia
Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund

Shaw, Mata, Blind.. Akhirnya turun juga.
Blind jadi DMF kalo gitu, kalo formasinya 4 bek.
Tapi kalo formasinya 3 bek dan 2 wingback, blind jadi CB

Shaw... akhirnya nonton Shaw main meski hanya nonton babak II. Lupakan dulu Rose, Shaw layak dapat banyak kesempatan. Dia ada di jalur yg tepat menuji performa sebelum patah kaki. Semoga konsisten dan banyak diberikan kesempatan oleh Mou.
