Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs West Ham
Preview : Manchester United v West Ham
-wharf.co.uk- West Ham head to Old Trafford for tomorrow's clash with Manchester United bolstered by the arrival of Nigerian striker Victor Obinna. The 23-year-old has joined on a season-long loan from European champions Inter Milan, with an option to make the move permanent next summer. Obinna has won over 30 caps for his country and made two appearances at the World Cup in South Africa this summer. He joined Inter from another Italian side, Chievo, in the summer of 2008, but spent last season on loan to Spanish outfit Malaga. He's the Irons sixth signing of the summer, none of them English. If his registration is lodged with the FA in time, Obinna could play some part in tomorrow's game with United. West Ham could be boosted by the return of captain Matthew Upson after the defender missed the Oxford game with a facial injury sustained against Bolton last week. Tal Ben Haim, who made his West Ham debut in midweek, could retain his place if Upson is deemed not fit enough to start. And Robert Green should reclaim the goalkeeping spot from Marek Stech. Meanwhile, the Hammers manager Avram Grant will be aiming to see his side's fragile confidence isn't shattered at Old Trafford. Grant admitted after Tuesday night's 1-0 Carling Cup win over Oxford United that his squad need more mental resilience. He said: "This team carried a lot of psychological problems. They showed if you don't give up and keep trying to do the right things we can score. In the past when everything goes well it's okay, but when things don't go well they are a little bit nervous." West Ham haven't beaten United since Carlos Tevez inspired them to a 1-0 win in May 2007, a result that kept the Irons in the Premier League. Since then they have been on the end of some heavy defeats, and unless they tighten up at the back that could be the scenario tomorrow with the likes of Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov hungry for goals. But Grant was accentuating the positive this week. He said: "They are a very good team but it is also a good challenge for us. One of the things I want to see in this team is that everywhere we go we try to play football and to fight and to take points. "It's not easy at Old Trafford but we will try to do it. It will also not be easy for them." West Ham (from): Green, Stech, Faubert, Ilunga, Spector, Upson, Da Costa, Reid, Ben-Haim, Gabbidon, Tomkins, Daprela, Parker, Dyer, Noble, Barrera, Boa Morte, Kovac, Stanislas, Cole, McCarthy, Sears, Piquionne, Obinna. Venue: Old Trafford Kick-off: 5.30pm |

Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs West Ham
Rooney ready for Hammers test
-clubcall.com- Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is in line to start against West Ham after missing the draw with Fulham. The England international will partner Dimitar Berbatov in the United attack, with Rooney still seeking his first goal of the new campaign. Boss Sir Alex Ferguson may choose to rest veteran midfielder Paul Scholes for the tie against the Hammers on Saturday, with Michael Carrick in line to fill in in midfield. Ferguson has no new injury worries with just long-term injury absentees Anderson, Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves all ruled out with respective knee complaints. |

Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs West Ham
Gabbidon relishes taking on Rooney and Berbatov
-guardian-series.co.uk- WEST HAM defender Danny Gabbidon is relishing the prospect of facing Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov at Old Trafford this week, despite being part of the back-line that was exposed against an aerial assault from Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. The Welsh centre-half, who stepped in for the hapless James Tomkins against Bolton, had his hands full with Trotters front man Kevin Davies during the 3-1 defeat. But he refuses to accept that West Ham are on a hiding to nothing against Manchester United this weekend, and believes the team can get their first points of the campaign under their belts in arguably the toughest fixture on the calendar. Asked whether he would be able to keep last season’s top scorer Rooney and Bulgarian striker Berbatov quiet, Gabbidon responded: “Yeah, you have to be confident. They’re the games you want to play in and they are the top players you want to play against to show how good you are. “If you go into those games with any kind of fear then they’ve already got the upper hand. You just have to be confident. We haven’t got any points yet so why not start next week?” By all accounts, the Hammers should be off the mark this season. The team produced one of the finest first-half displays the Boleyn Ground faithful have witnessed in months against Bolton, only for a lack of a cutting edge in front of goal to prove their undoing, thus letting the visitors off the hook. Carlton Cole saw his penalty saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen after he was fouled by Gretar Steinnson in the box. The returning Kieron Dyer was impressive throughout, but his attempt to steer the ball past the keeper after being played in by Scott Parker was tipped on to the post. Pablo Barrera, on the opposite wing, also came close with several shots. However, it was a different ball game after the break, Matthew Upson inadvertently nodding past Robert Green, getting a boot in the face from Davies in the process which curtailed his afternoon’s work. Johan Elmander doubled the lead with a free header before Mark Noble reduced the arrears with a penalty. However, any thoughts of a comeback were snuffed out when Elmander fired in late on. After a frustrating period on the sidelines through injury last season, Gabbidon admitted it felt good to be back in the thick of it. “It was nice to play 90 minutes,” he added. “Obviously we’ve conceded three goals which doesn’t look too great from a defensive point of view for me. But it was great to play in the first home game of the season in front of the fans and hopefully I can stay fit and be available for as many games as possible. “I thought we played a lot better today than we did against Villa but there’s obviously a lot of improvements still to be made.” |

Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs West Ham
Man Utd v West Ham
-news.bbc.co.uk- Barclays Premier League Venue: Old Trafford Date: Saturday, 28 August Kick-off: 1715 BST Coverage: Live on ESPN, BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, local radio & highlights on Match of the Day TEAM NEWS Manchester United may rest Paul Scholes and draft Michael Carrick or Ryan Giggs into central midfield. Wayne Rooney returns after missing the match with Fulham and will partner Dimitar Berbatov in attack. West Ham are likely to opt for a five-man midfield, so striker Frederic Piquionne could give way to midfielder Radoslav Kovac. Matthew Upson should return to the side after missing the Carling Cup game against Oxford with a facial injury. Man Utd Doubtful: Injured: Anderson, Ferdinand & Hargreaves (all knee) West Ham Injured: Collison, Hines & Kurucz (all knee), Hitzlsperger (thigh) MATCH PREVIEW Letting a lead slip twice, squandering a penalty and conceding an 89th minute equaliser against Fulham last Sunday left Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson raging, especially as his side missed out on the title last season by a solitary point. But the Red Devils are a team that never dwells on a bad result and, on paper, West Ham seem ideal opposition as Ferguson's side look to play catch up on Chelsea's goal difference that already stands at +12. With the Hammers porous at the back, it could also be the perfect chance for Wayne Rooney to rediscover his goalscoring form. When United played West Ham back in February, he took his tally to a staggering 27 goals in just 36 matches, but his horror run now stretches to 13 matches and 1081 minutes without a goal. Hammers boss Avram Grant faced an insurmountable challenge when he replaced Paul Hart at crisis club Portsmouth last season, but on the evidence of West Ham's first three games of the season, he has another serious job on his hands to install faith in a team that he says carry a lot of "psychology problems." The Hammers are already off to their worst-ever start to a Premier League season and captain Scott Parker admitted he is "dreading" the thought of Saturday's trip to Old Trafford. If that wasn't bad enough, they then face Chelsea, Stoke away and Tottenham. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Man Utd have won their last five matches against West Ham and have scored 14 goals in those games to the Hammers' one. • The Red Devils dropped just three points from winning positions last season, which was the fewest in the top flight. West Ham on the other hand dropped 15. • West Ham have made 15 visits to Old Trafford in the Premier League, but have won there just twice, in December 2001 and May 2007. Man Utd • Wayne Rooney has failed to score for club and country in 13 matches; his last goal came against Bayern Munich on 30 March. He has provided just one assist in Man Utd's last nine league matches. • The Red Devils have won 11 of their last 12 league matches at Old Trafford, and have averaged 3.25 goals per game in that period. • Paul Scholes made 200 passes in United's opening two games of the season, the highest in the league. West Ham • The Hammers are without an away win in the league since the first day of last season when they beat Wolves 2-0, a run of 19 matches. • West Ham's last seven league victories all came at Upton Park. • If he plays, Scott Parker will be making his 250th career league start. LEADING GOALSCORERS Man Utd Berbatov: 2 (1 league) Includes goals in Community Shield West Ham Noble: 1 goal (1 league); Parker: 1 goal (0 league) MATCH OFFICIALS Referee: Mark Clattenburg Assistant referees: Adam Watts & Martin Yerby Fourth official: Michael Jones LAST LEAGUE MATCH LINE-UPS Man Utd (D2-2 v Fulham, a): Van der Sar, O'Shea, Vidic, Jonathan Evans, Evra, Valencia (Giggs 74), Fletcher, Scholes, Park (Nani 67), Hernandez (Owen 75), Berbatov. Subs not used: Kuszczak, Smalling, Carrick, Rafael Da Silva. West Ham (L1-3 v Bolton, h): Green, Faubert, Gabbidon, Upson (Reid 54), Ilunga, Dyer (McCarthy 77), Parker, Noble, Barrera, Piquionne, Cole (Sears 86). dari dulu emang seperti itu, kelihatan cepat puas begitu unggul 1-0/2-0. makanya kita jarang sekali pesta gol dengan skor >5 klo dibandingkan dengan chelsea. berharap yang terbaik untuk nanti malem. menang udah bagus. syukur2 bisa pesta gol, buat ngangkat moral. chelsea beruntung dapat lawan relatif mudah2 di awal musim. |

Re: [EPL] Man Utd vs West Ham
yeah tonight bakal tersaji Man United vs West Ham ..
dengan hasil draw minggu lalu, fergie babes diyakini ingin cepat-cepat bertanding melawan hammers dan tentunya 3 point ... back four mungkin makin masih sama .., kangen dengan sisiran ala GN2 yang belum sepenuhnya dijalani O'shea come on .., lini tengah hmmp akankan SAF memberikan kesempatan michael carrick. dan tentunya diharapkan giggs/park/nani/valencia yang diturunkan di winger tampil baik .., lebih sering menusuk dan melepaskan crossing matang buat Rooney (dah bs tampil kan yah?) dan berbatov ... manfaatkan momentum west ham belum menemukan permainan nya dgn 2 kekalahan di laga awal EPL .., #United |
