Cuma rumor aja nih kayaknya.

Tepat sih, sesuai dugaan. Masa iya SAF beli pemain dgn harga lumayan, padahal belum teruji di EPL, dgn umur mendekati usia emas disaat stok bek tengah kebanjiran... hehehe

We'll see, semoga ga kejadian deh

Manchester United Transfer News: Assessing Reported Interest in Ezequiel Garay

If you're one who believes every transfer report as gospel, then you'll be the first to know that Manchester United have been linked with a big move for Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay.

Reports throughout Portugal, Spain and now England have all claimed that a "deal" has been done between the two clubs, and that the Red Devils will be picking up the Argentinian international over the summer transfer window once it opens in 2013.

However, few big media outlets are yet to jump on board with the "deal"—which has to leave us wondering whether this deal is completely done or not.

That's not to suggest that United aren't interested, and it certainly doesn't mean that the Red Devils won't sign Garay at some point in the future. But given the club, their current standing and positioning and the nature of the transfer window, it seems there's a lot more to this interest than we know.

Let's break down some of the key issues regarding a possible deal between Manchester United and Garay and try and understand the reported deal a bit more.

Do Manchester United Need a New Defender?

Perhaps the biggest question to start with has to be whether Untied really need a new defender or not, given their current talent on hand at the back. Guys like Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have done a tremendous job in central defense this year—so is there really a need for United to be bringing in new players this summer?

In short, yes. Both Ferdinand and Vidic are getting old (over 30 now and definitely not getting any younger) and are more susceptible to injuries. In fact, given the list of players that have played in central defense this year, it's hard to see United not buying a new defender this summer.

And, as is always the case, some of those players are linked with moves away from the club. Vidic has been linked with another big move away (as he was last transfer window), and while that might not come to fruition, it does highlight the need for more defenders.

Especially given how weak United have looked at the back at times this year.

Is the Interest in Garay a Good Thing?

Now the question becomes whether United—needing new defenders—should be looking for a potential deal for Garay or not this summer. And again, the answer to that is a resounding yes.

The Argentinian international is a very strong defender who offers certain skills on the ball that are rarely seen from central defenders. He is technically very sound, moves exceptionally well and rarely concedes errors inside his own defensive third when bringing the ball out.

At 6'4", Garay also has the aerial strength to make him a premier defender in the English competition, which loves to utilize crosses and aerial balls.

United have struggled in this regard over the years—particularly through Ferdinand—and Garay would be a huge improvement in this regard.

Early reports have suggested that a deal between United and Benfica is likely to reach between £15-17 million, which is perhaps a little more than teams would usually pay for defenders. However, at 26-years-old, Garay has plenty of years ahead of him to make that figure worth it and has the technical skill required to prove worth of such a price tag.

So is the Deal Done, or Not?

On this one, it's hard to say yes to a deal being done for United.

No big media outlets in England have run with the deal taking place yet, and neither have any big outlets throughout Spain, though Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing the defender as well.

United are usually very tight about which players they'll be looking to buy in the summer and rarely conduct any official business outside of the transfer window. That's not to say that they aren't trying to buy players outside of the window, they just don't let those interests known until the window is opened, and they can move swiftly to buy the players they want.

We saw with the Lucas Moura transfer saga last year that hometown reports are incredibly difficult to take for granted sometimes, and that we shouldn't embrace a deal as "done" until it officially is done.

There's no doubt that United are interested in Garay, and given the rumors, it's highly likely that they'll make a strong summer push for him. He is a great player that could be a huge signing at Old Trafford—one to change the balance of power in the Premier League once more.

But to suggest that a deal is already done seems premature. It is, after all, only March, and the rumor mill has plenty more to offer us over the course of the year.

Garay said yesterday that no deal has taken place, and with United not forthcoming with information, it seems best we lean toward the negative.

I'd say expect a summer push for Garay from United and for the Red Devils to do their best to sign him, but I can't see that happening for a while. It certainly doesn't seem to be happening soon with a deal unlikely to have taken place between the two teams already.

Scouting Rumoured Manchester United Target Ezequiel Garay

Ezequiel Garay is on course to be David Moyes’ first major signing as Manchester United manager.

As early as March, The Express picked up on stories in the Portugese press suggesting United had secured a £17 million deal. Those stories have resurfaced in recent days, with The Mirror stating that United are "more confident than ever" of signing the centre-back.

One can understand Garay’s desire to leave Benfica after their disastrous end to the season. The Portugese giants suffered their own nightmare treble in 2012/13, losing their domestic league and cup as well as the Europa League Final in dramatic circumstances.

The trauma of losing three major trophies to late goals will undoubtedly have scarred the centre-back. Moving to United, who generally profit rather than suffer from late goals, would be an effective antidote.

Garay fits the right age profile for United’s needs.

The current United squad has two experienced centre-halves in Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, but both are increasingly vulnerable to injury. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling offer hope of a solid future foundation, but neither is necessarily ready to inherit a starting spot on a full-time basis. Only Jonny Evans, aged 25, could be described as being at the peak of his career.

Garay will turn 27 in October, so he is approaching the optimum age for a central defender.

At Benfica, Garay has typically partnered the powerful Luisao. Of the pair, Garay is the more technically gifted and adept on the ball. His style and composure means he could be looked upon as a potential successor to Rio Ferdinand.

Although the former England international has agreed a new contract extension for 2013/14, it is unlikely that the ageing defender will be asked to repeat last season’s feat of starting 26 Premier League games.

Replacing Ferdinand will not be easy. He is not only an accomplished and authoritative defender but the instigator of United’s attacking style. Few centre-backs in world football possess Ferdinand’s combination of grit and guile.

Garay is one of the few.

In recent months he has secured his spot as a regular starter for Argentina. In their system he is frequently asked to carry the ball upfield, feeding passes in to their more celebrated creative talents.

His technical skills don’t end there. In the 2006/07 season he scored nine goals in 30 appearances for Racing Santander. United have always relied on getting goals from all over the pitch, and Garay could certainly be expected to contribute.

If there are any doubts over Garay’s quality, they surround the fact that he has already had a chance at one of European football’s giants.

In 2008 he left Santander to join Real Madrid. After spending a further season on loan at Racing, he made the exciting move to the Bernabeu. However, after an inconsistent campaign in 2009/10, he was relegated to fourth-choice centre-back for the following year, before being sold to Benfica.

Garay has since flourished in Lisbon, but the shadow of his time at Madrid hangs over him. Benfica are a huge club but do not quite share the same global profile as Real and Man United.

United fans will hope that if Garay does move to Old Trafford, he will be motivated by a desire to prove he can cut it at European football’s elite level.

If he manages it, they’ll have quite the player on their hands.

Default Re: [who is He ?] Ezequiel Garay

“Gentlemen agreement”?!!! Oh no

Could Ezequiel Garay be next as Moyes continues to strengthen defence?

Manchester United have a “Gentlemen’s agreement” in place to sign Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay according to the latest press reports.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £17m. Half of that fee will be passed back to Real Madrid, who according to rumours were keen to bring Garay back to the Bernabeu earlier last season.

The Argentine international was one of Benfica’s top performers last season, albeit in a team that won no silverware – though many feel that they were robbed by Chelsea in the Europa Cup Final.

The signing will add quality to arguably one of United’s strongest departments, with Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Jones and Evans already making progression difficult for one of United’s youngsters – Michael Keane. Keane was a key figure in United’s successful FA Youth Cup winning team of 2011 and is one that is earmarked for a bright future at the club.

Maybe David Moyes has cast his mind back to the opening game of last season when, despite such riches, United pitched up at Goodison Park with Michael Carrick filling in at centre-half. A factor that undoubtedly helped Mario Fellaini power a header in for a 1-0 victory.

Garay began his career at Racing Santander in 2005, before moving to Real Madrid where he was immediately loaned back to Racing. In his last season at Real Madrid he made only five appearances under Jose Mourinho who saw Garay as his fourth choice centre-half.

Garay is a tall and imposing centre-half standing 6ft 4in tall. He has throughout his career had an eye for the goal, with his best return being 9 goals in the 2006-07 season for Racing Santander.

In what is presumed to be his final season at Benfica, Garay was the mainstay of the team with 41 appearances.
