[EPL] Stoke 0-2 Man Utd
Stoke 0 United 2: Player ratings
MEN - September 26, 2009 Foster: Nothing to seriously test if he was over his derby dithering 6 O’Shea: Didn’t have much opposition so a comfortable outing and a well steered in goal 6 Ferdinand: Didn’t let his derby clanger affect him back to more like old self 7 Vidic: Only one striker to deal with and he played his part in mopping up limited threat 7 Evra: Right winger Lawrence was Stoke’s liveliest player and that was dealt with well 6 Valencia: Bad eighth minute one-on-one miss and never seemed to get over it 5 Fletcher: Great ball to Giggs to set up goal and a busy partner to Scholes 7 Scholes: Bossed the midfield completely. His persistence meant United stayed on top 9 Nani: One decent shot was a poor return for amount of ball he saw. 5 Rooney: Came very deep at times to get involved 6 Berbatov: Hadn’t been able to make much headway until he walked the goal in 6 Subs: Giggs (sub Nani 55) Geed Reds up 7 Owen (sub Rooney 80) No chances 5 Carrick (sub Scholes 80) Steady 5 Neville, Anderson, Evans, Kuszczak not used Stoke City: Sorensen, Huth, Faye, Shawcross, Collins, Lawrence (Pugh 86), Delap, Whelan, Whitehead (Tuncay 71), Etherington, Kitson (Beattie 71) Goals: Stoke: United: Berbatov (62) O’Shea (77) Bookings: Stoke: Huth (28) United: Scholes (58) Battle of the Bosses: Pulis packed his midfield but had no answer to Fergie’s choice of Scholes Referee: Howard Webb - No great problems 6 Attendance: 27,500 |

United 2 Wolfsburg 1: Player ratings
MEN - September 30, 2009 6 Kuszczak: The Pole was a touch static for Wolfburg's goal but generally handled well 6 O'Shea: The Germans didn't get much joy down his channel as the Irishman was solid 5 Ferdinand: When Wolfburg attack on the front foot he didn't look entirely comfortable 5 Vidic: Hauled down the difficult Grafite when he was turned and it summed up his uneasiness 7 Evra: The Frenchman was in decent form yet again but even his excellent spring couldn't stop Dzeko goal 6 Valencia: Disappointing goal attempt again but one or two decent touches and crosses 7 Anderson: The Brazilian ended on equal terms in a tough midfield battle 6 Carrick: Missed a good chance but put it right with a classy winner 7 Giggs: Got a stroke of luck with his goal but another display full of impact 5 Owen: Only one half chance before he went off injured 6 Rooney: Persistent effort but a night when not everything came off for him Subs: Berbatov (sub Owen 20) Jazzed it up 7 Fletcher (sub Valencia 82) 5 Scholes, Nani, Fabio, Brown, Foster |

Re: Man Utd 2-2 Sunderland
United 2 Sunderland 2: Player ratings
MEN - October 03, 2009 Foster: Failed to command in the air at critical moment in duel with Jones 5 O’Shea: Steady job and two decent deep crosses led to United goals 6 Vidic: After his Wolfsburg off colour display this was another untypical effort from the Serb 5 Evans: One of few who could be reasonably pleased with his effort 6 Evra: Not many have given him such a tough time as Malbranque. Never truly shackled him 5 Welbeck: Unfortunate he was given his chance on a day when Reds were so poor. One decent shot 5 Fletcher: United’s key man of the season but this was his poorest display to date. Never got hold off it 5 Scholes: Astonishing pass stats v Stoke but this was completely opposite and his usual customary booking 5 Nani: Tested the patience in the first half but at least tested Sunderland a bit in seond 5 Berbatov: Wonderful goal and some neat touches but nobody was alive to him 6 Rooney: His least effective performance of the season. Dug out a couple of shots but not much else to worry Sunderland 5 Subs: Anderson (sub Scholes 45) Improved midfield 6 Valencia (sub Welbeck 71) No impact 5 Carrick (sub Fletcher 71) Unable to pump up Reds 5 Ferdinand, Brown, Fabio, Kuszczak not used Sunderland: Gordon, Bardsley, Turner, Ferdinand, Malbranque (McCartney 85), Richardson, Bent, Jones (Campbell 84), Cana, Reid (Henderson 73), Cattermole Goals: United: Berbatov (51) A. Ferdinand (own goal 92) Sunderland: Bent (7) Jones (58) Bookings: United: Scholes (25) Fletcher (58) Sunderland: Richardson (29, 85) Bardsley (64) A Ferdinand 76) Richardson sent off 85 mins Battle of the Bosses: Brucie had his side playing crisp and dominant football and Fergie unable to find inspiration from his selection Referee: Alan Wiley - Missed handball penalty for Reds appeal 6 Attendance: 75,114 |

[EPL] Man Utd 2-1 Bolton
Manchester United vs Bolton, Player Rating
MEN Van Der Sar : Steady Eddie gave Reds defence a solid base to recover their form 7 Neville: Crucially gave ball away with poor clearance for Bolton’s goal. Spoilt a decent effort 6 Ferdinand: Crisis over. Largely back to his trouble-free self. Stood firm when it got hairy late on 7 Evans: Handled the robust threat of Kevin Davies with great skill and dominant late on 7 Evra: No great problems until out-jumped by Taylor for goal 6 Valencia: His best game since arriving at United. Service was good and well taken goal 7 Carrick: No frills performance was enough to keep Reds ticking over in midfield 6 Anderson: Allowed Bolton through his patch to set up the Wanderers’ goal 6 Giggs: Another display of intelligence and clever play that gave Reds a spark 8 Owen: Nothing quite came off for him in the critical penalty box area 6 Berbatov: The Bulgarian produced some brilliant eye-catching moments of inspiration 8 Subs: O’Shea (sub Evra 83) Height a help 5 Welbeck (sub Owen 83) Never got into it 5 Scholes (sub Anderson 86) Hardly got a touch 5 Brown, Nani, Macheda, Kuszczak not used Goals: United: Knight (4 own goal) Valencia (32) Bolton: Taylor (75) Bookings: United: None Bolton: Davies (48) Battle of the Bosses: Fergie got a response after Sunderland but credit to Megson for inspiring his side to test Reds to the end Attendance: 75,103 |

Re: [UCL] CSKA Moscow vs Man Utd
CSKA Moscow vs Manchester United, Player Rating
MEN Van der Sar: Champions League nights do not come much quieter than this and the Dutchamn will be glad he had gloves just to keep out the cold if not for using 6 Neville: Up against a potentially lively 18-year-old in Schennikov but the veteran stood up to the test and even managed to force the winger into defending of his own before the Russian was taken off 7 Ferdinand: Inching his way back to his best form ahead of the visit to Anfield on Sunday and the England defender was rarely in trouble but just under an hour was enough for him 6 Vidic: Didn’t enjoy the best of birthday’s in Moscow where he used to ply his trade for Spartak. Even being reunited with the one-time solid triumvirate didn’t bring out the very best in the Serb 5 Fabio: Champions League debut for the young Brazilian and he had a tough ask coming face-to-face with Serbian Krasic but he handled the situation impressively 7 Valencia: Had one thunderous effort that rattled the crossbar and scored to build impressively on his goalscoring game against Bolton last Saturday 7 Scholes: Broke up a number of CSKA potential attacks and fortunately he managed to do it legally into the bargain 6 O’Shea: Another role for the versatile Irishman as the midfield protector in front of the back four and he did it to reasonable effect 6 Anderson: Considering United had three men in the central midfield area you would have expected a bit more from the South American but didn’t produce enough 5 Nani: The surface seemed to bring out the best in the Portuguese winger and he produced a series of eye-catching tricks that tormented his full back though Berbatov looked decidedly unimpressed with his service 7 Berbatov: CSKA boss Juande Ramos had the Bulgarian at Tottenham and described him as unstoppable. Sadly he didn’t get enough of the ball to prove the Spaniard right 6 Subs: Brown (sub Ferdinand 57) One rusty moment 5 Owen (sub Scholes 70) Missed a half chance 5 Carrick (sub Fabio 88) Welbeck, J Evans, Macheda, Kuszczak not used CSKA Moscow: Akinfeev, Semberas, Ignashevich, A Berezutski, Dzagoev, Krasic, V Berezutski, Rahimic, Schennikov (Mamaev 62), Necid (Piliev 73) Goals: CSKA Moscow: United: Valencia (86) Bookings: CSKA Moscow: None United: Berbatov (54) Battle of the Bosses: Fergie’s set up was enough to frustrate former Spurs boss Juande Ramos Referee: Claus Bo Larsen (Denmark) On the ball 7 |
